Best friends Jac and Amy conduct a literary analysis of Sarah J. Maas's debut novel, Throne of Glass. In this episode, they discuss chapters 1-6. Each episode is broken into 2 parts. This is part 2 of this week's episode. Come back on Tuesday where they will explore chapters 7 - 10. (Spoilers for Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, and Heir of Fire will be discussed. Any larger series or other SJM spoilers will be reserved for the end of the episode in the Breadcrumbs and Broomsticks section.) Every episode, Jac and Amy use their combined 13 years of literary academic training to analyze and give voice to reasons why you may love or hate today's popular books. They embrace and respect modern fantasy, romance, and romantasy books written by women. And so, it is in their nature to analyze these books as you would any other novel you might have discussed in school. Chapter summary for this week's episodes: After a year of slavery in the Salt Mines of Endovier, Celaena Sardothien is given the chance of a lifetime: to compete for the role of the King's Champion and earn back her freedom. Despite the lack of respect she receives from the Crown Prince of Adarlan and the Captain of the Guard, Celaena agrees to their terms of engagement to enter the competition as Dorian's candidate for Champion. Over the following weeks, Celaena – formerly Adarlan's greatest assassin – travels in chains with the Prince's retinue back to the capital city, while the past and many secrets that haunt her lurk around every corner. We meet Cletus Fuhmunduh at the crossroads in the Salt Mines. Chris uses KING's olfactory sense to his disdain, Patricia and the newest Power Walkers (Capt. X, The Sable, Troubadour) are in tow as mimics are taking on every size and shape of hero and villain we have met. Jazz, Dean and Chris forget that Shade-O, Spartan, KING and Cotton are wearing the same hats and so KING suggests that he urinate on them. That way they'll know who is who when they meet the mimics. Or maybe use a paintball gun? Or maybe I just remind them of the lore that we created. Battle ensues, as it should. The Power Walkers clear out a tunnel and happen upon a dump truck. And Scarlet Spartan gets behind the wheel! Cotton and KING do a team up and Shade-O keeps his eyes peeled for danger. The Politics of Puerto Rican Drag and Trans Performance (UMichigan Press, 2021). Translocas. Su libro Queer Ricans: Cultures and Sexualities in the Diaspora (2009) trata sobre migración y cultura homosexual puertorriqueña.

The Politics of Puerto Rican Drag and Trans Performance (UMichigan Press, 2021). Translocas. There was once a puppet that wanted nothing more than to be a real boy, but spent more time trying not to turn into a donkey than listening to his conscience. The one and only Sir Jiminy H. Cricket, Lord Highkeeper of the Knowledge of Right and Wrong, Counselor in Moments of High Temptation, and Guide Along the Straight and Narrow Path. He was being bad which is what caused all this, and we all know what happens to bad and naughty children. They are banished to the salt mine. Our Links:Ian Wolffe

You may not be aware that Krakow, Poland is extremely significant in our history, but not necessarily in a good way.The Auschwitz camps are located about an hour's drive from the city and if we cast our minds back to WWII from the 1940's, it represents one of the most reprehensible times in the last century. This is one time you will need to book an organized tour, as doing it yourself will not provide you with the full story of what happened in those dark days.It is a long day, especially if you combine that visit with a trip to the Salt Mines. My trip was over a period of 11 hours, however it was well worth getting the educational tour, which in a way makes you appreciate how lucky we are these days in comparison, even when you throw in the Covid factor.Apart from the horrors of Auschwitz, the shining star of the day was being 400ft down in the Salt Mines inside St. Minga's Chapel. Pay a visit to Schindler's Factory, walk around the Jewish section of town, and hang out in the vibrant Main Square.Let your emotions run wild for a few days.
The party take a new approach to Brian Books and his bouncing Bartledoom ball of destruction. They then head to the Tinkerer's shop to convince the professor to help them get into the Abandoned Salt Mines. Is Dresden as persuasive as he thinks he is? Will Macekor get the hug he's been looking for? Will they get a device to crack open the Salt Mines? Like what you hear? Translocas: The Politics of Puerto Rican Drag and Trans Performance (U Michigan Press, 2021) focuses on drag and transgender performance and activism in Puerto Rico and its diaspora. Arguing for its political potential, Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes explores the social and cultural disruptions caused by Latin American and Latinx “locas” (effeminate men, drag queens, transgender performers, and unruly women) and the various forms of violence to which queer individuals in Puerto Rico and the U.S. are subjected. This interdisciplinary, auto-ethnographic, queer-of-color performance studies book explores the lives and work of contemporary performers and activists including Sylvia Rivera, Nina Flowers, Freddie Mercado, Javier Cardona, Jorge Merced, Erika Lopez, Holly Woodlawn, Monica Beverly Hillz, Lady Catiria, and Barbra Herr; television programs such as RuPaul's Drag Race; films such as Paris Is Burning, The Salt Mines, and Mala Mala; and literary works by authors such as Mayra Santos-Febres and Manuel Ramos Otero. Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes, a drag performer himself, demonstrates how each destabilizes (and sometimes reifies) dominant notions of gender and sexuality through drag and their embodied transgender expression. These performances provide a means to explore and critique issues of race, class, poverty, national identity, and migratory displacement while they posit a relationship between audiences and performers that has a ritual-like, communal dimension. The book also analyzes the murders of Jorge Steven López Mercado and Kevin Fret in Puerto Rico, and invites readers to challenge, question, and expand their knowledge about queer life, drag, trans performance, and Puerto Rican identity in the Caribbean and the diaspora. The author also pays careful attention to transgender experience, highlighting how trans activists and performers mold their bodies, promote social change, and create community in a context that oscillates between glamour and objection. Dr. Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes is Professor of American Culture, Romance Languages and Literatures, and Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Michigan. Learn more about your ad choices. Katherine Hansen is the owner of Newtown Salt Spa here in Newtown, Connecticut! Originally with a background in forensics and crime scene investigation, she changed paths when her husband relocated for his job. Katherine traveled with her mom often and one of their trips took them to Poland where they toured the Salt Mines. While there she noticed how much better she felt - from cleared sinuses to an overall better feeling throughout the body. She learned that people from all over Poland move closer in order to send their kids to a school that is located inside the mine to help with breathing issues such as allergies and asthma. She also learned that salt therapy, called Halo-therapy, has been used in Europe for hundreds of years and is still prescribed by doctors as a complement to modern medications. Together with the help and support of her family and friends Katherine built the Newtown Salt Spa salt brick by salt brick. Katherine and I had a great conversation, covering her background in forensics and crime scene investigation, opening the salt spa, traveling with her mom, her love for Newtown, what she enjoys doing in her free time, surviving COVID-19 shutdown and so much more. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Bside Incoming: Rudolf C We're very pleased to continue the global journey that the Bside Incoming series is taking us on, as we are welcomed into the record bag of the Berlin based Aussie - Rudolf C. There is no doubt that Australia has seen the rise of some of the most exciting electronic producers this decade. Rudolf C's passion for extraterrestrial electro has pushed boundaries in the genre, from producing soothing experimental floaty breaks, to pounding club ready electro. Here is one of our favourites; 'Wanderer' - On the B1 of his EP 'Honey Mushrooms 2'. 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5k6ITqNV8vA In 2015 Rudolf C and Shedbug created Salt Mines Record to drive the sound they aimed to push forward. Each release since has been filled with a difficult to master balance of both heavy hitting club tracks while maintaining emotion with creative pads and synths. Salt Mines has pressed records with some of the biggest producers in the electro/extraterrestrial scene; Jenson Interceptor, Roza Terenzi, Reptant, Shedbug, Escape Artist and more all contributing. Rudolf C, has himself released tracks on labels like X-Kalay as well as his own Salt Mines baby. The rest of the time you can find him touring across Europe and tearing up many a dance floor with his partner in crime Shedbug. Always endeavouring to put their talented colleagues in the spotlight and share their scene's music with clubs across the continent, that's what we love to see. Rejoice podcast gobblers! Prepare to receive the latest episode of VGATWTOE directly into your skull! Fantastic socialist gamedev David Cribb (@colestia3) graces our presence to discuss his games and the larger questions of what goes into a leftist video game. We have a very special segment of Salt Mines where we dig into the chud response to his socialist teaching tool, POST/CAPITALISM, to roast all the goofhogs oinking about the communist game. Later on, Alton brainstorms a game about blasting out the back walls of famous leftists and Reese learns about the new Warframe expansion and the player response. Finally, we discuss gamers as a proxy for anti-union violence and how the large penal colony full of spiders has influenced David's work.David's Games: https://colestia.itch.io/David's Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/colestia/postsArticles mentioned: Warframe Fans Ask Developers To Avoid Crunch: https://kotaku.com/warframe-fans-ask-developers-to-avoid-crunch-1830327178Gamer Rage as Anti-Union Violence: https://rhizome.org/editorial/2018/oct/30/worse-than-scabs-gamer-rager-as-anti-worker-violence/A podcast that reveals the truth about video games that those other video game podcasts don't want you to know.
