Anthony Leal's foot never hit Caleb Furst's junk, which would have changed the game 180-degrees. Myles Rice was exceptionally active on the defensive end of the floor. Indiana put together one of its better performances of the season but ultimately came up short in an 81-76 loss at #10 Purdue. The Hoosiers led by as many as seven points in the first half and showed tremendous resilience in the second half, responding to a Purdue run with a 12-0 spurt of their own to retake the lead. However, the Boilermakers made enough plays down the stretch to secure the victory -- and Indiana made enough mistakes to ensure defeat.Mackenzie Mgbako led IU with 25 points in perhaps his best game as a Hoosier, while Trey Galloway added 16 points and sparked the second-half comeback. The five-man group of Mgbako, Galloway, Luke Goode, Anthony Leal and Umar Ballo played nearly the entire second half and showed tremendous fight, though fatigue may have been a factor late.Key Talking Points:Strong defensive effort limiting Purdue to 2-13 from three-point range20 turnovers prove costly, leading to 26 Purdue pointsBench contributes 28 points behind Galloway and GoodeLittle production from starters Myles Rice (0 points) and Malik Reneau (3 points)Final possession execution costs IU chance at potential game-tying shotPlus, as always, the Banner Moment, Meaningful Moments You Might Have Missed, Inside the Numbers, and our Game Balls, Hustle Award, and Lingering Questions. Indiana let a late lead slip away in the final minute as Maryland escaped Assembly Hall with a 79-78 victory, dealing a crushing blow to IU's NCAA tournament hopes. The Hoosiers built a four-point lead in the closing minutes behind huge plays from Anthony Leal and Myles Rice, but defensive breakdowns and poor late-game execution proved costly. After getting clutch plays from Leal and a strong second-half shooting performance from Rice (3-5 from three), Indiana seemed poised to secure a crucial home win. However, failing to foul with a foul to give and defensive confusion on Maryland's final possession led to a Rodney Rice three-pointer that put the Terrapins ahead. IU's final offensive possession was marred by substitution confusion and resulted in a forced shot that missed at the buzzer.Key Talking Points:Efficient offensive performance (1.24 points per possession) wasted by defensive lapsesMaryland shot 12-24 from three while repeatedly finding open shootersMyles Rice (12 points) and Anthony Leal provided huge second-half sparksLineup and execution issues in critical final minute prove devastatingAnother tough home loss further damages NCAA tournament resumePlus, as always, the Banner Moment, Meaningful Moments You Might Have Missed, Inside the Numbers, and our Game Balls, Hustle Award, and Lingering Questions. Anthony Richardson might be great, but the Colts must prepare for injury or lack of improvement. Colts need clarity about who is in charge of the operation. Is it Jim or Carlie? Hoosiers really need a win tomorrow night in Columbus to change the narrative - but can they do it? Anthony Leal said some very smart things in the aftermath of the hideousness against Illinois. Pacers at Detroit tonight which may give you an excellent investment opportunity. https://mybookie.website/joinwithKENT Promocode: KENT Buying or selling a home in Indy - text "value" to Sean Hartwick - (317) 373-3724. Indiana showed improved offensive balance and competitive spirit in defeating Rutgers at Assembly Hall, overcoming the early loss of Malik Reneau to secure an important conference win. Despite an incredible 39-point performance from Rutgers freshman Ace Bailey, the Hoosiers maintained control throughout most of the second half and found enough offensive firepower to secure a double-digit victory.Playing with just one big man after Reneau's injury, Indiana's offense showed better spacing and flow, leading to a breakout three-point shooting performance (12-of-27) and strong games from Myles Rice (21 points) and Oumar Ballo (17 points, 12 rebounds).Key discussion points from the show included:The benefits of playing with one big man and improved offensive spacingStrong performances from role players like Anthony Leal and Luke GoodeIndiana's improved competitive effort and hustle plays throughout the gameThe importance of building on this performance with tougher games aheadQuestions about Malik Reneau's status moving forward after his early knee injuryPlus, as always, the Banner Moment, Meaningful Moments You Might Have Missed, Inside the Numbers, and our Game Balls, Hustle Award, and Lingering Questions. IU fans - including me - still bristle at comments from Mike Woodson and Anthony Leal. During this video - I referred to IU players as idiots. They are not idiots anymore than every other 18-to-22 year-old who needs to learn what they don't know before they share with us what they do know. Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
On today's episode of Locked On Hoosiers, Jacob Goins breaks down the embarrassing performance for Mike Woodson and Indiana Basketball as the Hoosiers lose to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 86-70. Indiana started out nicely, but Nebraska hit big shots thanks to Keisei Tominaga going off for 28 points to lead all scorers. We discuss Kel'el Ware returning to action coming off a sickness, and Xavier Johnson returned after missing significant time due to injury. Ware led all Hoosiers in scoring with 20, while Johnson was held scoreless in just 15 minutes of play. Then, Jacob gives his likes and dislikes from the first Big Ten loss of the year for the Hoosiers. Very few likes, one of which included Ware looking sharp after missing a game being sick. Dislikes include lack of production from the guard position for Indiana, lowlighting the play of Trey Galloway and guys off the bench like Gabe Cupps and Anthony Leal. The three-point defense struggled once again, something Coach Woodson has to put more urgency on moving forward. Finally, we look ahead for this Indiana Basketball team and brainstorm ways the Hoosiers can try to learn from this blowout loss. Finding problems that need immediate fixes is crucial, as Big Ten play ramps up even more when the Ohio State Buckeyes come to Bloomington on Saturday night. (00:00 - 23:11) - It's the day after Christmas and Kevin and Query are on the air. Only...Kevin is in Florida. He joins via remote connection and while Jake Query holds down the fort in studio. The guys open by going over their respective holidays and the current weather conditions in Indianapolis. Kevin and Jake hypothesize on whether or not most people have today off as an observed holiday. Then it is time to talk business as the Colts take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football tonight. Nick Foles is starting at QB for the first time in exactly one year. The Pacers got a big win in Miami over the weekend. Haliburton avenged his last performance against the Heat where he only scored one point. This game he walked away with 43 points and a franchise record for most threes in a game. (23:12 - 31:56) - Morning Checkdown (31:57 - 42:34) - Kevin opens the segment by asking Jake to breakdown the look of Myles Turner and the Pacers relationship. Are the Pacers or Turner potentially leaking any information themselves to try and raise Turner's value. Reportedly, "rival teams" have had interest in Myles Turner and Buddy Hield this season. If the Pacers are unable to lock down Turner by the trade deadline should they risk keeping him? (42:35 - 1:07:16) - The second hour begins with some talk about Nick Foles getting the start tonight at Lucas Oil Stadium. Why is Foles getting a shot over Sam Ehlinger? Have the Colts written off Ehlinger as a quarterback after only two starts? Query thinks that if the organization has any faith in Foles he should have been playing when the games still mattered. Kevin and Query debate the shape of the QB roaster next season. Who will still be here and who will be gone. (1:07:17 - 1:29:14) - Tony East of Forbes joins the program to talk Pacers and how they have really turned up this season with back-to-back road wins. East speculates on Myles Turner's potential to return to the Pacers next season, or to end up as a trade piece this year. The Pacers are extremely lucky to have enough cap space in order to potentially give Turner a reasonable offer. Turner is still young enough that keeping him as a part of future plans makes sense. Query asks East how much interest there is across the league in Buddy Hield. A little bit of gushing over how great of a player Tyreese Haliburton has turned out to be. (1:29:15 - 1:32:04) - A quick touch and go segment on plans coming up in the week. (1:32:05 - 2:03:34) - Matt Taylor is on the program to talk about his Christmas and the Colts game tonight against the Los Angeles Chargers. Jake wants to know if Nick Foles starting tonight makes sense to Matt. Kevin asks if Foles will be the "chess match" type of player that we expected from Matt Ryan. Will any other players standout tonight because Foles is getting a start? Who else will be put in a position to succeed tonight? Taylor breaks down how Saturday is really limited in his ability to change the roster up in his last couple games. Potentially he can manage to give a handful of younger players some more experience. (2:03:35 - 2:15:00) - Pop Quiz (2:15:01 - 2:19:51) - The show closes with Jake telling the story of Indiana basketball player Anthony Leal paying off his sister's college loans with Name-Image-Likeness (NIL) money. Brady Allen is entering the transfer portal.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In the 11th episode of The Inside Scoop with Tamar Bates presented by Speakeasy Sales Copy, we look ahead to Scoop's much-anticipated sophomore season. And while many pundits view Tamar as a prime “breakout” candidate, he's not thinking that way, at least as it relates to individual accolades. Locked On Hoosiers - Daily Podcast On Indiana Hoosiers Football & Basketball
It was a busy weekend for both the Indiana Hoosiers basketball teams with one program potentially departing with a player and one adding multiple. As Trayce Jackson-Davis declared for the NBA Draft, the women's basketball team added a trio of transfers, highlighted by former Indiana Miss Basketball Sydney Parrish. On today's episode of Locked on Hoosiers, Jacob Rude (@JacobRude) dives into all of the news of the weekend. Starting off is the news of Jackson-Davis declaring for the 2022 NBA Draft, though he did so without hiring an agent and maintaining his college eligibility. It's an expected move and one that makes plenty of sense, especially with Mike Woodson guiding him with his connections to the NBA.With the Indiana women's basketball team, a trio of transfers were announced on Sunday in Alyssa Geary, Sydney Parrish and Sara Scalia. Geary was a known graduate transfer from Providence that had previously announced her commitment to IU. Parrish, the crown jewel of the incoming transfers, announced her return to Indiana on Saturday morning, giving the Hoosiers a former top-25 recruit and a former Miss Basketball. The last transfer, Scalia, was an under-the-radar move but gives the Hoosiers a player who was All-Big Ten Second Team last season. The show wraps by continuing the individual season recaps, this time focusing on former Hoosiers men's basketball team and Anthony Leal and Logan Duncomb. Neither player had a particularly big role last season, Leal more than Duncomb, but both have avenues to see the court potentially next season with improvements.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. *Like, subscribe, comment, and follow us on social media!*After a disastrous 2-10 football season, Indiana football has made some major changes, starting with Tom Allen reportedly firing Nick Sheridan and replacing him with 37-year old Walt Bell. Bell has experience at the Power Five and Group of Five levels, and is known for running a fast-paced offense. What can you expect out of IU's offense under Bell?On the hardwood, the Hoosiers overcame a bumpy start to knock off Nebraska in the Big Ten opener, in no small part thanks to Mike Woodson inserting Anthony Leal into the game when things looked bleak. Coach Tonsoni is my guest to talk about the game. A flat start but a great jolt of energy from the bench, specifically Anthony Leal, propels IU to the win. Hoosier Morning After is an IU basketball reaction podcast done the morning after the games to allow the initial emotions to settle with a nights sleep.
Indiana came out sloppy, Mike Woodson turned to his bench, and Tamar Bates and Anthony Leal came through. It helped that Nebraska can't shoot. Race Thompson was good, but lessons need to take root before trip to Wisconsin. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-kent-sterling-show/support
Eric & Ward head back to Bloomington for good times, great food, wonderful people and three disastrous sporting events. While many argue their very presence is to blame for IU's athletic woes over the weekend, it didn't stop them from enjoying everything else the world's greatest city had to offer. Except for the unrelenting hellish heat. They didn't like that part. Be honest. You did not expect Indiana to beat No. 8 Iowa for the season sweep of the Hawkeyes. You definitely did not expect it after IU went down 17-4. Nithin, Matt and Jevan break down the Hoosiers' win, and debate whether or not that victory -- along with Khristian Lander and Anthony Leal's play -- changes the trajectory for Indiana for the rest of the season.
