We're hitting everything from roster upheaval to coaching changes. The McNeil trade chatter is heating up, Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz are back on the market after opting out, and both Jeremy Hefner and Antoan Richardson are gone as the Mets overhaul the entire coaching infrastructure. We'll break down Carson Benge's legit shot at becoming the centerfielder of the future, why Lindor needs a real backup shortstop, which minor leaguers enter true put-up-or-shut-up mode, and what the pitching staff has to look like if 2026 isn't going to be another September disaster. We'll also celebrate the newly announced Mets Hall of Fame Class of 2026: Lee Mazzilli, Bobby Valentine, and Carlos Beltrán. And yes — we'll dig into the big question: is Cooperstown next for Beltrán, and how soon? Some of us think he's in. Some of us (cough Farace) think the voters love to make people wait just to feel important. From free-agent fits to bullpen reconstruction to trying to understand why this team collapses every September, we're laying out the whole roadmap. Expect Farace's rants, Rodriguez's spin, and Joe chiming in from the wall every time someone mentions “this should be easy” — because nothing with this franchise is ever easy. It's the season wrap-up, the therapy session, and the first steps toward 2026. Buckle up. #Mets #PiitB# PutItInTheBooks #ThePutItInTheBooksShow

The Atlanta Braves have a new manager and it ended up being a familiar face. The club announced the hiring off long-time bench coach Walt Weiss this week, setting off a slew of changes to the coaching staff. Grant McAuley discusses the hiring of Weiss, how he fits into what the Braves are looking for, the club's decision to keep it internal despite a month-long search, how the continuity Weiss provides should help Atlanta get back to winning, and some of the changes that have already taken place on the coaching staff. Pitching coach Rick Kranitz, first base coach Tom Goodwin, and third base coach Fredi Gonzalez are out, while former Mets pitching coach Jeremy Hefner and first base coach Antoan Richardson were hired. We'll also hit some questions from Braves fans about the winter shopping list, including the need at shortstop after Ha-Seong Kim declined his his 2026 player option, the search for more starting and relief pitching, health updates on some key Braves rotation pieces, the decision to pick up the club options on Chris Sale and Ozzie Albies, as well as what an extension would look like for Ronald Acuña Jr. From The Diamond airs live on 92-9 The Game in Atlanta on the weekend throughout baseball season. BT & Sal lock horns over the news that Antoan Richardson, the Mets' first base coach, may leave after contract talks stalled due to his desire for an expanded role. Sal passionately defends Richardson, calling him the "best first base coach in baseball" and highlighting his historic 89% stolen base success rate with the Mets, a stat Juan Soto directly credited him for. BT, however, dismisses the hysteria, arguing that a first base coach is irrelevant to a team's success and calling the reaction "blown out of proportion." The debate also touches on whether Richardson's base-stealing genius is simply a temporary "exploitation" of the current defensive ineptitude and the larger issue of Carlos Mendoza being left isolated as the entire Mets' coaching staff shifts around him.

Pedro Guererro also returns as an assistant hitting coach. On the pitching side, things are far less certain. Director of Pitching Brian Bannister has already departed for the White Sox. Yep, it's that stage of the baseball discourse. On today's show, Javier discusses last night's blowout loss to the Giants. He touches on Yu Darvish's disastrous outing, and then takes some time to discuss not just the Padres ridiculous unwritten rules dilemma (stop crying!), but also the allegations of racism by Giants coach Antoan Richardson. Then, he takes a minute to give his thoughts on Nick Martinez's stellar Padres debut as well as the likelihood of prospect MacKenzie Gore being called up on Friday. San Francisco Giants coach Antoan Richardson faked outrage to the media after their game against the Padres...while inventing a new insulting term. Cincinnati Reds President Phil Castellini was interviewed on local radio yesterday...and basically encouraged fans not to support the team.
