Happy Thanksgiving week to all our friends – we are so thankful for you, and also that baseball thing. The big awards were announced and we're surprised by our non-zero prediction success, happy about Stephen Vogt, and bitter about Chris Sale winning and Colton Cowser not. We brush up on hot stove vocab like “tender,” Rule 5, and qualifying offer. Kelsey stands in for Justine in Mexico and Alyssa goes to the Guards which may lead to Patti customizing a Nakken CIty Connect. In political news that we care to discuss, Sen Durbin introduces the Fair Ball Act in a strong pro-labor statement, and the Trop (and its replacement) is in a public-funding quagmire. We cross-train with Jaylen Brown, Bill Nye, Alex Ovechkin, and the Orlando Pride. We say, “Never put your money where my mouth is,” I could hear the heavy Cy in your voice,” and “Is Rich HIll our new Bartolo Colon?” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Bluesky @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. The San Francisco Giants finally announced their new coaching staff under new manager Bob Melvin tonight. At least most of it, anyway. The big ticket additions: Ryan Christenson will be Melvin's bench coach, leaving former bench coach and interim manager Kai Correa's status in question. Matt Williams returns to the Giants and will be the third base coach, which pushes Mark Hallberg from third base to first base. This leaves Antoan Richardson's status in question. And finally, Pat "The Bat" Burrell joins the SF Giants' staff as co-hitting coach with Justin Viele.Viele's retention comes as somewhat of a surprise after two straight lackluster offensive seasons from the Giants under his leadership, ever since Donnie Ecker departed for the Texas Rangers. Pedro Guererro also returns as an assistant hitting coach. On the pitching side, things are far less certain. Director of Pitching Brian Bannister has already departed for the White Sox. Pitching coach Andrew Bailey's status is uncertain. All we know is that J.P. Martinez will return as an assistant pitching coach. What about important holdovers from Gabe Kapler's staff like Alyssa Nakken? Fortunately, Nakken will return for her fifth season as an Assistant Coach with the Giants. She been a popular figure in the dugout since her arrival, and she will forever be the first in-uniform female coach in MLB history. Taira Uematsu will also return as an Assistant Coach. Sadly, popular coach Craig Albernaz officially left the organization to join new Guardians manager Stephen Vogt's first-ever staff.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

In the midst of the playoffs there's no Mets news, so Grace pivots to general baseball coverage and talks about the playoffs to this point. Two LCS's with stories on the road to them, and how the teams stack up. Grace also has a (somewhat) shameful admission about the 2023 Phillies, so try not to get too worked up about it. Then, Grace looks at some big stories from the week. Alyssa Nakken became the first woman considered for a managerial position in MLB! Of course there's sexist backlash but who cares? Kim Ng resigned, and good for her for knowing her worth. Then, Grace discusses the NHL ban on Pride Tape and how stupid the NHL is to create a backlash that was wholly unnecessary. But homophobia isn't based in logic, is it? Final, a third act all about Grace's movie minute, which starts as a celebration of a film and then turns to a slight dissection of late-00s media culture and the depiction of women therein, a celebration fo three women who deserve their flowers, and Grace listing every movie she's ever seen (just about). Alyssa Nakken keeps making history with the San Francisco Giants. In 2020, Nakken became the first full-time, in-uniform female coach in MLB history. Last week, according to a report by The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly, Nakken is believed to have become the first woman to interview for an MLB managerial position. Nakken would bring several qualifications to the job, including her experience playing high-level collegiate softball, being in the SF Giants organization since 2014 (first as a baseball operations intern), having a master's in sports management, and being a full-time MLB coach since 2020. She's also described as exceptionally personable and someone who puts people at ease, which is an important trait the Giants are looking for in their next manager. In another report from Baggarly, we learn that the Giants were heavily involved in Sean Murphy trade talks last offseason. According to the report, the Giants were willing to trade Marco Luciano for Murphy, who was entering his age-28 season and had three more years of team control. Murphy is one of the top catchers, both offensively and defensively, in MLB. The A's, however, wanted Kyle Harrison and so the deal never materialized. Nine years ago today, one of the best moments in San Francisco Giants history happened. Travis Ishikawa hit a 2-0 pitch deep into right, and as it snuck over the 24-foot high wall, the Giants had won the pennant—for the third time in five years. Ishikawa's walk-off homer to win the pennant will stand forever as one of the greatest moments in franchise history, and its anniversary is always a clear reminder of what can only be described as the Golden Age of San Francisco Giants baseball.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:

Ishikawa's walk-off homer to win the pennant will stand forever as one of the greatest moments in franchise history, and its anniversary is always a clear reminder of what can only be described as the Golden Age of San Francisco Giants baseball. Your favorite little sports podcast host is back on the scene after a week layoff. I'm excited to present my viewpoint on all of the latest happenings in sports. On deck: (2:47) As the podcast took a respite last week, I'll get into my quick sojourn visiting the charm of Paris and the rich history of Rome. The most perfect weather a vacation could ever have, the sights, landmarks, etc. as I enjoyed seven days outside of the States. (5:21) We're onto the American League & National League Championship Series as we're closer to the Fall Classic in baseball. I'll take a big picture view at first to discuss is it the layoff or schedule that's affected the 100 win teams (i.e. Orioles, Dodgers & Braves) as they had early exits in the Division Series? I'll talk about Game 1 in the ALCS as the Rangers draw first blood vs. the Astros. Can Houston rebound at home where they've been subpar all year? Then I'll breakdown the NLCS between Diamondbacks vs. Phillies. Are the D-backs game to pull off another upset? Or are the Fightin' Phils destined to get back to the World Series? In other news, history could possibly be made in San Francisco as they've interviewed Alyssa Nakken, who is on the Giants coaching staff, to be the manager in what would be a first in North American sports. (29:23) The last two undefeated teams in the NFL (i.e. 49ers & Eagles) were upended over the course of a three hour time span. San Francisco loses at Cleveland behind QB Brock Purdy's worst performance as a pro. Later, the Jet defense rose to the occasion forcing the Eagles into four turnovers in an upset 20-14 win. I'll share my disdain for the NFL pondering a Super Bowl to be played in London somewhere in the distant future. One that I'm not in favor of, so you won't want to miss that. Week 6 was a lame one, if you ask me as this season hasn't been compelling or riveting, to say the least. (45:53) Don't look now, but there's a team in the PAC-12 that making waves toward the top of the rankings in the nation as the Washington Huskies won a wild game vs. Oregon on Saturday. Are they college football final four material? I'll delve into the landscape of the sport as they're at the halfway point of the season, with teams jockeying for position to see if they'll be a part of the playoff mix come New Year's Eve. (50:54) Hockey fans, the NHL season has arrived. For my over/under point totals, please check the YouTube channel linked below. Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews has gotten off to a torrid start as he's done something only four other players have ever achieved in the history of the sport. (53:29) The Association (aka NBA) tips off a week from tomorrow. James Harden is still in Philadelphia. Please wake me up if he's been traded to another team before the season begins because I can't hack this soap opera anymore. Plus, the Celtics hire a former coach and analyst (Jeff Van Gundy) to become a consultant and the Bucks look midseason ready with the dynamic duo of Dame & Giannis, drawing rave reviews by the team and throughout the league.
