We've finally made it - the pivotal Post Punk year of 1979. Well, sort of. It wouldn't be LITM without a little extra detail, so Jeremy and Tim cue up our arrival with a couple of tracks from '78 for good measure. They talk Tom Robinson Band, Undertones and the Only Ones, exploring ‘dole queue rock', everydayness and the limits of politically self-conscious music of the period. Later in the show they tuck into a couple of indie disco staples to examine emergent New Wave, de-masculination, Manchester and the Iron Lady. Finally, for the first time on the show, the guys spend time on perhaps the most iconic post punkers of all: Joy Division. This is our last main feed episode for a little while - we'll be back in mid-August. Until then, why not become a Patron and explore our LITM Extra archive, featuring dozens of bonus shows?Patreon.com/LoveMessagePodwww.loveisthemessagepod.co.ukProduced by Matt Huxley.Tracklist:Tom Robinson Band - Winter of '79The Undertones - Teenage Kicks The Only Ones - Another Girl, Another Planet Blondie - Heart of Glass Machine - There But for the Grace of God Go I The Cure - Boys Don't Cry Joy Division - Disorder

A24 needs to be stopped. At this point, they might be money laundering because what possessed them to make this movie?? This has to be the most anti movie theater movie of all time. I needed some air pods, a blanket and the TV remote in order to full grasp what this movie was trying to show me. This is the perfect movie to watch with friends, play and pause as you please and talk throughout the entire movie. You can watch this movie with your eyes closed because it requires you to listen more instead of watching it with your eyes. Highly recommend to watch one time & to have a dialogue throughout. https://youtu.be/Ze7ZxPBNH7gAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands

This week we're joined by writer/director Ian Tuason, whose new A24 horror film Undertone is creeping into theaters March 13. The film plays with a deceptively simple question: what if the scariest thing in a movie isn't what you see… but what you hear later? We talk with Ian about building tension through sound, the eerie psychology of playback and EVP recordings, and why something as innocent as a children's song can suddenly feel sinister when it's heard through fresh ears. He also tells us about filming the movie in his own childhood home, the challenge of creating tension with minimal visuals, and the trust it takes to let actors experiment when they're carrying so much of the film. Plus, we get into what excites him about stepping into the world of Paranormal Activity next. And of course, Ian builds his Spook'em Scare'em Starter Kit. Headphones recommended... COME HANG OUT!!! We open this episode by talking about how seeing ourselves on camera during COVID changed the way many of us think about how we look. We discuss how lighting, color, and cohesion play a bigger role than we realize, and how that realization often becomes the entry point into color analysis. From there, we introduce House of Colour and Dee Pineaut, who joins us to explain what color analysis actually is and where it comes from.We walk through the history of color analysis, starting with early 20th-century art theory and the Bauhaus movement, and then moving into the film industry with the rise of Technicolor. Filmmakers learned that certain colors could make actors look healthier, younger, brighter, or more sinister, and those same principles apply to everyday people. We talk about how color can either harmonize with someone's natural undertones or fight against them, affecting how vibrant or washed out they appear. We then break down what a typical House of Colour appointment looks like. Natural daylight and an in-person experience are essential, and precision-dyed drapes are used to determine whether someone has warm or cool undertones. From there, we outline the four seasonal palettes—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—and what those seasons mean in practical terms. We discuss how finding the right colors simplifies getting dressed, helps wardrobes become more cohesive, and reduces decision fatigue in the morning. We move beyond color into style analysis, where we talk about body shape, clothing cuts, and personality. We emphasize that this process is not about changing someone's body, but about honoring it and choosing shapes, fabrics, and details that work best for each individual. We highlight how style evolves over a lifetime and how these tools help people adapt through career changes, retirement, weight changes, and life transitions. We also cover the additional services House of Colour offers, including cosmetics, wardrobe edits, personal shopping, and online shopping resources. Dee shares her own journey into this work, explaining how her personal transformation led her to open a House of Colour studio in Royal Oak. We close by talking about client success stories, community involvement through the Royal Oak Chamber, and how listeners can get started on their own color and style journey.More:Dee's House of Colour Website: https://www.houseofcolour.com/stylists/dee-pineau-royal-oak-michigan(00:00) – Intro(01:25) – What Color Analysis Is and Where It Comes From(02:48) – Film, Technicolor, and the Psychology of Color(03:32) – What House of Colour Does(04:51) – What a Color Analysis Appointment Looks Like(06:34) – Favorite Colors vs. Best Colors(08:06) – Why In-Person Analysis Matters(09:13) – Style Analysis and Body Shapes(11:06) – Additional Services: Makeup, Wardrobes, Shopping(13:10) – Dee's Personal Journey to House of Colour(14:27) – Client Transformations and Success Stories(15:22) – Royal Oak Chamber and Community Involvement(16:26) – How to Get Started with House of Colour Learn more about the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce: https://www.royaloakchamber.com/Connect with our hosts:Jon Gay from JAG in Detroit Podcasts - http://www.jagindetroit.com/Lisa Bibbee from Century 21 Northland - http://soldbylisab.com/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.

Every now and then, I put together shows that are all about what I’ve been listening to in my humble abode. This seems like a good time for another of these types of broadcasts. So what you have tonight is some great faves from the likes of The Damned, The Cramps, Eater, The Saints, The Undertones, and so much more. I have a set devoted to two tracks from the new Wreckless Eric album, accompanied by the original 1985 versions under the name Captains of Industry. There’s also a couple of live Replacements tracks from the new Let It Be box set. But there are also some new tracks aired tonight. Earlier this week, Brad Marino sent me his new single, “Murder and Violence”. Surely I can’t wait almost a full month to give that some airplay, right? Same with the new tune by The New Brutarians, “Tonight’s Your Night (Tonight)”, which was emailed to me just hours before the show went to air. There’s also new tunes from Kurt Baker, The Cynz, The Spackles, Vista Blue, Phil Cook & The Fall Dogs, and Faz Waltz. What tunes did you enjoy the most this week? The Cardinal is promising to be 10% nicer to Mrs. Cardinal but I'm not convinced! We talk about the sadly departed Jimmy Cliff and how you really had to be a very good musician back in "the day" (not sure which day that was or what the cutoff is, but hey, you know what we mean!) We also get another scintillating format idea from Kev and Randy contends that we really are a couple of agreeable fuckers. There are questions from Ruud and Barry, but first, we have the small matter of some Northern Irish punk music to deal with! If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "You've got my number", or possibly, "but I'm not in on Wednesdays so leave a message with me mam"!The twentieth installment in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by Kofi powerhouse, Al Dudeney. It's "The Undertones" with "You've Got My Number (Why Don't You Use It!)"The song at the end is the beautiful live performance of "Many Rivers to Cross" by Jimmy Cliff, who passed away on the day of recording. The performance is taken from 1969 ahead of the release of his self-titled third album. Have you ever wondered why some color combinations look effortlessly chic while others feel like a fashion miss? It all comes down to understanding how color actually works. In this episode, I'm breaking down the three fundamental elements that affect both how colors look on you and how they work together in your outfits. This isn't about handing you a color card and calling it a day—it's about giving you the knowledge to make confident color choices for life.In this episode, you'll learn:The three elements that every color hasThe biggest mistake women make with colorFour color pairing formulas that take the guesswork out of combining colorsHow to match your outfit's contrast level to your natural coloringThe secret to mixing warm and cool colors successfullyI hope this episode helps you see color as a tool you can play with confidently, rather than something that feels confusing or risky. When you understand that every color is made up of temperature, value, and saturation—and that all three matter—suddenly the whole world of color opens up. Your homework is simple: start noticing these elements everywhere, from what you see on TV to what's in store windows. The more you practice identifying them without the pressure of getting dressed, the easier it'll be to use color with confidence in your everyday outfits.Don't forget to submit your end-of-season style questions here.Full show notes and resources: https://youreverydaystyle.com/ep-224

We first saw Graham Fellows as Jilted John on Top of the Pops in 1978 and we've followed his characters ever since, especially drawn to the keyboard-prodding, car-coated John Shuttleworth and his deathless pop anthems ‘Pigeons In Flight', ‘Up And Down Like A Bride's Nightie' and ‘I Can't Go Back To Savoury Now'. Graham talks here about how and why he created them (and rock media studies lecturer Brian Appleton) and his new book ‘John Shuttleworth Takes The Biscuit', along with … the allure of romantic punk rock (Patrik Fitzgerald, Buzzcocks, the Undertones), Sheffield mouse-breeders, comic melancholy, whether Northern humour is funnier than Southern, kissing Debbie Harry for a publicity shot, the advice his father gave him and the finer details of the Shuttleworth live experience.
