After last week's top tier episode with all four of the boys, we bet you thought there was no way to top it. But we have done it - we have absolutely done it. Comedian and friend of the show Tom Witcombe joins us again for this week's episode, replacing wannabe comedian and anti-hero of the podcast Sen. Before we answer your questions with Tom, Rohit recaps the week by recounting his near-death experience involving wine, bikes and magpies - a tale so tall it should singlehandedly inspire a Royal Commission into the rules and regulations of the biking industry. We have a new game this week "Kushinator" - surprisingly inspired by the game that saved us from the bores of high school Akinator. In this game, there will be a person, place or thing that the boys will have to guess within 20 questions. As per usual, the tempers flare as the boys challenge and critique each other's contentious questions & answers - leaving us to wonder if the boys are really friends at all. Finally, saving the best until last, Tom Witcombe joins us for the fan favourite segment "#AskTCB". After we get some interesting updates from Tom on what he's been up to and what exciting things he has coming up, we delve into the questions you have sent in. We discuss all things cancelable - from primary schools to Adam Levine to carrying out mass genocide. Remember, you guys sent in these questions - not us. Also this week: Helmets, Kevin Spacey, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, City2Surf and death row. Segments this week: The Logue: Tired of reaching around each other (at least on the podcast), the boys have instead decided to reach around the week's news stories, events and viral trends. Kushinator: The boys have 20 questions to guess the mystery person, place or thing. #AskTCB: We answer the questions you have sent in! If you want your questions answered on the next #AskTCB, send us your questions in the comments below or on Instagram! ______________________________________________ SPONSORS

The Remnant returns to the drive-time format to end the week, and the results are predictably unusual. Feast your ears on the eighth installment of this curio, in which Guy discusses the end of America's “Remain in England” policy, Jonah ponders the appeal of cow brains and potted meat, and Ryan recounts his time as a Celtic warrior in the Irish mountains. Plenty of serious punditry is also included on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic, the appeal of right-wing grifters, and the rise of victimhood culture on college campuses. Tune in for a celebration of the legendary Tom Wolfe, but stick around to learn about some of the most depressing movies ever made.Show Notes:- George Costanza's prison girlfriend- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon's citizenship test- The Commentary podcast on COVID panic- Tom Wolfe's “The Great Relearning”- Oakland reverses its plan to defund the police- Thursday's shameful solo Remnant- Wednesday's weird G-File of weirdness- Tom Wolfe's brilliant Brown speech- Jonah's first eggheady publication- Guy's history of Uncommon Knowledge, featuring plenty of Wolfian goodness- The battle of Smith College- Alex Jones, ace reporter- Milo Minderbinder, statue salesman- Jonah and Steve on their departure from Fox- The New York Times report that broke the Fox story
Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 75th episode and fourth year anniversary production of "VideoFuzzy," reporting the progress I've made in cataloging nearly 3,000 VHS transfers and digital recordings. Delayed somewhat by our first roadtrip out of state since the fall of 2019 -- WORTH IT -- my Friday Night Feature this installment, I talk about Mos Def, Jack Black, Danny Glover and Melonie Diaz in an HBO presentation of 2008's "Be Kind, Rewind." I skip lightly past Cross Connections, touching on Jack Black and Allyce Beasley over the course of the episode, and brief Fond Reflections of Irv Gooch and Ned Beatty, and I highlight Danny Glover as a Golden Thread through my media encounters. In my Classic Collection (VHS-to-DVD), I have cataloged through disc 1,150. I dig into Damon Wayans, Jada Pinkett Smith and Michael Rapaport in Spike Lee's "Bamboozled" (2000); with comments on David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" and "Eraserhead"; Jon Stewart's Wacky List of Things: Bad Ways to Learn You've Been Fired From Your Life's Work; "Superstore's" Ben Feldman's appearances in "Medium" and "Mad Men"; an appearance by Stan Lee in "The Simpsons"; dueling reviews on the fourth season finale of "Bones"; Apu Nahasapeemapetilon antics and a misdelivered line in "Coming to Homerica," the 20th season finale of "The Simpsons," and "The Golden Compass." In my Current Collection (digital recordings), I recently cataloged Disc X400 in my Current Collection, comments on the FX Pride documentaries ahead of the third and final triumphant season of "Pose," Katey Sagel in "Rebel," the "Scrubs" sixth season musical episode of "My Musical," "Kids in the Hall" and "Chad," and such movies as Frank Sinatra as "Tony Rome" (1967), "Chances Are" (1989), "Pulp Fiction" (1994), "Glass" (2019) and "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (1953). In my Streaming activities, I stream the final sixth season episode of "Community" IFC declined to rebroadcast. Also, I highlight Cornstock Theatres' streaming stage production of "Talk Radio" on May 29, ahead of their production of "The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abriged) [Revised]," with comments on a recent PBS "Great Performances" production of Anton Chekov's "Uncle Vanya." Finally, in "Video Outtakes," I touch on an issue I've struggled with putting this production together: editing my stuttery, stammery recordings, including samples of raw recordings as examples. I appreciate everyone's patience with me in these productions. Onward! TOP TEN: Here's a "top ten" episode guide for people looking for a quick read-in on this blog and podcast effort. Enjoy!

"The Simpsons" will no longer use White actors to voice non-White characters, according to the show's producers."Moving forward, The Simpsons will no longer have white actors voice non-white characters," Fox spokesman Les Eisner said in a statement Friday.Over the three decades since the animated sitcom began, it has used White actors to play a number of non-White characters including Harry Shearer as Dr. Julius Hibbert and Hank Azaria as Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. In January, Azaria announced he would stop voicing Apu after 30 years playing the thickly accented Indian-American character. Azaria is not South Asian."All we know there is I won't be doing the voice anymore, unless there's some way to transition it or something," Azaria said, according to /Film, an industry news blog that reported it had asked the actor about the matter after a discussion panel. The decision to remove Azaria from voicing Apu was mutual, the actor said, according to /Film. "We all agreed on it," he said. "We all feel like it's the right thing and good about it."The comedian Hari Kondabolu -- whose 2017 documentary, "The Problem with Apu," thrust controversy over the character into the mainstream -- reacted on Twitter saying that he hoped "The Simpsons" kept Apu and lets "a very talented writing staff do something interesting with him.""My documentary 'The Problem with Apu' was not made to get rid of a dated cartoon character, but to discuss race, representation & my community (which I love very much)," Kondabolu wrote. "It was also about how you can love something (like the Simpsons) & still be critical about aspects of it (Apu)."In his doc, Kondabolu interviewed celebrities of South Asian descent, including Aziz Ansari and Kal Penn, to discuss how characterizations like Apu can be viewed as racism. The show responded in an April 2018 episode to the backlash over Apu, who runs the Kwik-E-Mart convenience store in TV's longest-running prime-time scripted series. In the episode, the young Lisa Simpson said, "Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect. What can you do?" Lisa then glanced at a framed photograph of Apu inscribed with the message, "Don't have a cow."Azaria later that month told the host of "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" that he'd be happy to step aside from Apu and disagreed with how the show handled the criticism."The idea that anybody -- young or old, past or present -- was bullied or teased based on the character of Apu, it just really makes me sad," said Azaria, who voices other characters on the show."It was certainly not my intention," he said. "I wanted to spread laughter and joy with this character, and the idea that it's brought pain and suffering in any way, that it was used to marginalize people, it's upsetting."Meanwhile, Mike Henry has stepped down from playing the character Cleveland on "Family Guy," the latest in a slew of White actors abdicating roles voicing animated characters of colour.Henry, who also voiced the character on the now-cancelled "The Cleveland Show," made the announcement Friday evening on Twitter, writing that it's been an honour to play the character for 20 years."I love this character, but persons of colour should play characters of colour," he said. "Therefore, I will be stepping down from the role."
In this episode, Jared Lovrak and I talk about The Simpson's character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon and voice actor Hank Azaria's recent decision to stop voicing Apu. APU SHOW NOTES The origins of Apu. Why Apu is a hero. Why people find the character offensive. Why Hank Azaria is stepping down from the character. Will this lead to more character's being abandoned for the sake of political correctness? What racial stereotypes look like outside the United States. Why not laugh? And lots more! Hari Kondabolu identified a problem. His self-hosted, self-produced 2017 documentary, The Problem With Apu, which aired on TruTV, discusses how The Simpsons character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon created a caricature of South Asians and perpetuated a stereotype that hung over South Asian kids like Hari and followed them into adulthood. The documentary isn’t a call for Apu to be removed from the show or fired into the sun or anything like that. No, it’s an earnest discussion of how these types of stereotypes can still hurt people. But The Problem with Apu has come to define Hari’s work in a way that is both deserved — it’s a really good little documentary — and maybe a little unfair. See, Hari is also a tremendously funny stand-up comedian, someone who tells jokes about racism and the divisiveness of American politics, all the while making you laugh at the way many of us have only built up those divides. In his new Netflix special Warn Your Relatives, Hari jokes about race, homophobia, the Trump administration, and the time he got heckled by fellow comedian Tracy Morgan. So Todd was thrilled to be joined in the studio by Hari, who discussed telling jokes about Donald Trump, telling jokes about his mom, and, yes, telling the truth about Apu.
