In this episode of TribePod, Courtney Lane interviews Ray Ellin. The world of standup comedy has shut down because of COVID-19, but that hasn't stopped one comedian from earning a living. Ray Ellin is a comedian, host, producer, and writer, and is the founder of Comedy Cloud (www.ComedyCloud.co). He produces live, interactive, Zoom-run, online comedy shows for companies and non-profits. His service is right on time for companies looking how to solve the holiday party problem for 2020. Ray is also executive producer of Comedy Central's This Week at the Comedy Cellar, which recently wrapped its third season, and he is the owner of Aruba Ray's Comedy Club (www.arubacomedy.com) on the island of Aruba. But Ray's current specialty is performing live for employees and interacting with them in real time—bringing a bit of the live comedy show back into the lives of many people who are missing it in lockdown. Ray caters each show to each company and audience (all female comedians for a women-run organization, all Italians for an Italian-American charity group, etc.). But whatever the bent of the office, he makes sure his show motivates employees and improves company morale. ...     Welcome to the latest episode of This Week in Aruba, which covers the events from Friday, July 13th to Thursday, July 19th also known as timeshare week 28.   My shoutout for this week goes to Aruba Ray whose famed comedy show has returned to Aruba. I’m a big fan of this show and in my opinion is the best nighttime entertainment in the island. For more details, head on over to http://www.arubacomedy.com.   Now let’s jump into the events category!   FOOD Chinese Night with 3-course dinner at Que Pasa Restaurant When: 18 July / 4:00 pm - 11:00 pm Where: Que Pasa? (Wilhelminastraat 18, 0000 Oranjestad, Aruba) Source: https://www.facebook.com/events/243894689675814/   A Chinese proverb states: "Food is the heaven of the masses". This clearly shows the importance of food to the Chinese. Here the traditional Chinese holistic approach regarding almost all things is expressed in many ways. An important criterion is the perfect balance of aroma, appearance and taste. Furthermore, a good meal must comprise the five flavors spicy, sour, sweet, bitter and salty, which also have to be in harmony. In addition, many ingredients are selected according to aspects of traditional Chinese medicine and are used only during the preparation of the meal and not in the dish itself.   Que Pasa is planning lots of great special events, so get ready for a Surinam night, a pizza night and a fish night. Let your imagination run wild and you will probably get what you are wishing for.   But first, the Chinese event on Wednesday July 18th: a special 3-course dinner menu with traditional and delicious Chinese dishes for just $29.50 per person. Time for the 4th part of our February/March 2018 Aruba Trip and I am here with Maggie recording down in the island right now to report the events that happened from Thursday (March 1st) to Saturday (March 3rd).   Last time, we left off on Wednesday evening after going through the highest of highs to the lowest of lows all in one day. So we figured that we should put that behind us and go for a fresh start on Thursday by unwinding and relaxing all day in Eagle beach. It was a very long, satisfying, and perfect beach day with perfect weather conditions which we spent from morning until just before 7 in the evening. Our late dinner was spent at Kalin’s, the Mexican restaurant that we ate at just a few days ago. Since they are open until very late at night, it really is perfect for people like who us who are looking for a good fallback meal.   Friday was yet another beach day but this time in Palm Beach. The definite highlight of this day was the dinner at Delicious, the new restaurant near Palm Beach (where Diana’s Pancakes used to be). They literally just opened this week so they don’t even have a menu yet but the chef, who is the daughter from the family that runs Papiamento Restaurant, served us with surprise meals that were amazingly well-prepared and beautifully presented. She is passionate about her food and hearing her personally explain the dishes after the dinner was such a worthwhile experience.   The next day, we headed over to Arashi beach which hands down had the best water conditions out of all the beaches we went to this entire trip so far. Later on we met up with David and Brenda Cohen, who I interviewed in One Happy Podcast (episode 48) a couple of years back. We visited them in their own Aruban house and had such a great time. We also went to another Aruba Ray comedy show that evening and as always, they were phenomenal. Just a reminder that these shows do sell-out nightly so if you’re planning to come to one, make sure to book your tickets in advance on arubacomedy.com   So that wraps up our Saturday and we woke up the next day feeling a little under the weather. Hopefully, we won’t end up having the flu while down here in Aruba. We truly wish to finish our vacation in the best way possible. Tune in to the next episode for the conclusion of our Feb-March 2018 Aruba trip!   ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:   Know about an amazing chocolate dessert from Delicious Restaurant that is made up of unusual ingredients. We are back for the third part of our Aruba February 2018 trip series. Maggie and I are currently stuck in traffic while on the way back from Eagle beach so we figured we might as well get the show started while we’re at it.   The following will be a recap of the events that occurred from Sunday night (February 25th) to Wednesday evening (February 28th).   To pick up where we left off last time, we went to Ling’s Chinese Restaurant for dinner. It was a nice, clean little place with decent food. If you’re looking for value and like Chinese food, then we definitely recommend this place.   Monday morning, we headed off to Palm Beach and set up our own little spot right between the Hilton and the Bugaloe. It’s basically a no man’s land with easy water access which is just perfect for us. However, the water topography was a little bit different than usual. It appeared a little murkier and was littered with numerous rocks, but nevertheless, that did not deter us from enjoying a beautiful day at the beach. We also stopped by at Eduardo’s to get our favorite Acai balls. They were lovely as always. Lunch was spent at Pelican’s Pier. Even though the food was good, the service leaves much to be desired which I suppose crosses it out from my list of restaurants to eat at from now on.   Moving on, that evening was truly a memorable one because we went to an Aruba Ray comedy show as planned. The funny thing is every time we watch one of those shows, we always say “that’s the best one we’ve seen yet” but this time, it really is the best. There were 5 comedians in the line-up: Ray Ellin (who’s always there), Tony V, Ricky Velez, Mike Vecchione, and Jim Colliton. All of them positively delivered. It was a phenomenal show. I am going to take this chance to encourage everyone that if you’re down on the island right now, you should absolutely check out Aruba Ray’s Comedy shows. You would be short-selling yourself if you don’t. The show will run until the end of March so don’t miss out! Visit their website for more information: arubacomedy.com   The next day, which is Tuesday, we woke up kind of late while still being pretty buzzed from the drinks we had at Aruba Ray’s open bar at the Marriott the night before. So it made for a pretty lazy day of hanging out at our favorite Eagle beach while stopping by for meals at Don Pistache and Pickles.   Come evening was an event that we were looking forward to the most: Friends of One Happy Podcast’s Meet-up at Barney’s. We are very thankful to the 30 or so people who showed up.  Thank you for hanging out with us and generally having a good time. It’s always nice to meet new people. Barney’s also did an amazing job with the snacks, special drinks, food, and service so kudos to them! One of these days I hope I can secure a podcast interview with them.   Wednesday was Full Throttle Tour day. Let me tell you that Full Throttle Tours is now in the top 5 of the best excursions I’ve experienced in Aruba. Maggie and I had a really fun time. Full Throttle Tours basically takes you on a speedboat to drift snorkel on different spots on the island. The big difference with other snorkeling tours is that the boat can move very fast, so it has the ability to take you from one end of the island to almost the next end. You can learn all about it in Episodes 101 and 102 of One Happy Podcast, in which I interviewed the family who runs the business.   After that, we had a little missing car fiasco which was thankfully resolved without further issues. So that evening, we opted for a quiet dinner and to just unwind by sitting at the beach and looking at the night sky and stars. It was the perfect ending to an eventful day and reminded us of the true spirit of vacation: relaxation.   ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:   Learn about the exciting snorkel locations we went to during the Full Throttle Tour. Hear about a new restaurant that will open soon in downtown Aruba. Hear the interesting cautionary tale about parking in Downtown Aruba.  Learn from my stupidity. It’s right about time for my first trip to Aruba this 2018 with none other than Maggie. We’re going to be down there on the island from February 24th to March 5th for a total of 9 days.   We usually have a stable routine which includes booking a pre-flight hotel and flying out from Newark airport in which we always manage to get the best airfare deals for us.   On this trip, aside from spending a lot of time on the beach as we normally do, we plan to hit Aruba Ray’s Comedy shows a couple of nights while we’re in there. If you’re a regular listener of this podcast, you’ll know that Maggie and I are huge fans of these Aruba Ray’s Comedy and we really can’t think of a better night-time activity in the island. For more information regarding this, check out their website at arubacomedy.com. We’re also looking forward to hitting up Full Throttle Tours, which was covered on the podcast from episodes 101-102.   Another exciting event coming up is, of course, One Happy Podcast’s Hangout at Barney’s on February 27th starting at 7pm. To anyone who will be down on the island at this day, we invite you to join us! We’ll be ecstatic to meet you.     This episode will not be complete without listing out the restaurants that we plan on trying including a bunch of our staple favorites. As huge foodies, Maggie and I are always open for more culinary adventures.   As always, we will be reporting from the island via podcast forms as well as Facebook lives, so do follow our Facebook account here:   Again, if you’ll be in the island on the 27th, see you at Barney’s! Till next time.   ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:   Know why we recommend booking a pre-flight hotel. Find out what is one of my goals for this trip. There’s a new entry in that category which is Senses Fine Dining. It’s only about a month old and is already drawing rave reviews. This episode of the show will cover the events from Monday, January 29th to Sunday, February 4th.   First of all thank you so much for all the feedback you guys have given on the pilot episode. I really do appreciate all the suggestions. I will actually incorporate one of the suggestions on this episode which is to include a shortened form of an interview with a guest. Thousands of tiny lights are incorporated into costumes, road pieces and floats, intensifying the dramatic effect to an already stunning, creative display. Be part of the fun with an exclusive view from our pool deck. #Aruba #RenAruba #RDiscovery#BusinessUnusual #Carnival   Superbowl 2018 LIVE at MooMba Beach When: 4 February 2018 / 7:30 pm - 11:30 pm Where: Moomba Beach (JE Irausquin BLVD 230, 0000 Palm Beach, Aruba) Source: https://www.facebook.com/events/916843068493299/   MooMba Beach is ready for Superbowl 2018! Are you ready for the biggest game of the year? Slowly but surely the Superbowl Mania is starting to get its grip on Aruba. Hearts are starting to beat just a little bit faster, expectations are running a bit higher as the excitement keeps building. On the island there are several great location to watch this Game of Games, but there is one standing out: MooMba Beach, `the Aruban home for the Superbowl’. With a beach stadium, giant, mega and big screens all over the place and specials on food and drinks, the 400-plus spectators at MooMba are sure to enjoy the 52nd edition of this extraordinary event, which is held in the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.   At MooMba guests can choose between make their reservations for VIP tables with a dedicated waiter and bottle service or sitting in the stadium on the beach on February 4th. Starting at 6.30 pm the place will be filling up; inside the restaurant there will be big screens, so you can have dinner at MooMba while watching the action....    Super Bowl Xtravaganza 2018 When: 4 February 2018 / 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm Where: Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort & Casino (J.E. I have also included my own predictions if anyone is interested.     Another activity that caused my ears to perk up is:   Blue Moon Barbecue When: 31 January 2018 / 5:00 pm - 1:00 am Where: Tortuga Beach Bar (Boca grandi, N/A Sint Nicolaas, Aruba) Source: https://www.facebook.com/events/1632153233539501/   Join us on another one of our famous Full Moon BBQ sessions. So this episode of One Happy Podcast was recorded down on the island.  What I wanted to do was capture the excitement of checking in with you guys on location.  So here we have yours truly and Maggie G. discussing some of the highlights of our Summer 2017 Aruba Getaway. While Aruba is widely regarded as a place that has perfect weather this past week, was an improvement even upon that.and thanks in part to that weather, this trip has been absolute perfection.   Our first night was spent in the company of friends at Alfie's in celebration of Canada's 150th birthday. It was a night jam-packed with fun and spent in a sea of red and white, which are the colors of Canada. Canada Day at Alfie’s was filled with good vibes, good food, and good drinks that never seemed to end.   As talked about in the previous episode, we celebrated the 4th of July at Palm Beach with the awesome folks from the Playa family in a huge beach party. The view of the fireworks display was nothing short of breathtaking. It really doesn't get any better than an up close, unobstructed view of the fireworks. I did a Facebook live of this event — if any of you were up to witness it — which basically was my way of bringing you guys into the Independence Day celebration that Aruba put on for us Americans.   We also attended one of the Aruba Ray's Comedy shows, which did not disappoint, of course. Maggie and I were in complete stitches the whole time. Those guys are absolutely hilarious and we recommend everyone to check them out! Aruba Ray has been on the show numerous times so even if you have not yet attended one of his shows, if you have been listening for a while you are probably familiar with him. However, if you are relatively new and you would like to know more about "Aruba" Ray’s Comedy you can get to know him by listening to One Happy Podcast episodes 88, 77, 71.5, 71, 40, 21, and 7.   Wrapping up our highlights is a recount of the wonderful time we had with friends from the Aruba.com forums.  We met up at Legend's Pub for a quick little meet and greet and also we had a superb night out with our good friend Anne at Yemanja, a new favorite restaurant of ours.   Make sure to stay tuned for the wrap-up of our Summer Aruba trip in the next episode! We'll list out a comprehensive list of all the restaurants we visited as well as our thoughts about them, a summary of our mini adventures, a recollection of the amazing memories we made, and much more.   ON THIS EPISODE OF ONE HAPPY PODCAST, YOU WILL:   - Listen to a story about what goes on in the casino after Aruba Ray’s Comedy. - Learn why Canada Day at Alfie’s in Aruba was not to be missed - Hear about how I became slightly starstruck upon meeting the actress Emily Tarver from Orange is the New Black. - Know my reaction to an unusual drink I had at Legend’s Pub - Find out about our jello shot filled nights thanks to a woman who's famous for making hundreds of them. (To know more about Sherry "Jello" Pence, check out episode 60 of One Happy Podcast.) - Hear my account of why Playa Linda may be the closest knit timeshare property on the island.   ESTABLISHMENTS, RESTAURANTS, PERSONALITIES, AND SHOWS MENTIONED:   Alfie's Eduardo's Beach Shack Legend's Pub Matthew's Beachside Restaurant Passion on the Beach Restaurant Scott’s Brats Yemanja Woodfire Grill   Aruba Ray's Comedy Marriott Hotel and Stellaris Casino Playa Linda Beach Resort   Emily Tarver Orange is the New Black Tony Woods

Today on Episode 80 of One Happy Podcast, I am being joined by a couple of Aruba-lovers who just returned from their 13th trip to the island.  Bev and Bill Flood first visited the island via cruise ship but very quickly they stopped window shopping.  The couple’s second visit to Aruba would be a full blown vacation, rather than a cruise stop.  By the end of that second trip, Bill and Bev would purchase a timeshare at the Marriott.   This interview is the Flood’s taking us on a journey to their Aruba.  Not only do we hear about how they discovered the island, but we also get to hear about their most recent visit. Having just returned from the island literally earlier that week, Bev and Bill were full of enthusiasm and also information.  Additionally, we talk about an excursion they did on a past trip that still rings out as one of the biggest highlights of all their vacations to Aruba. This episode of One Happy Podcast is a back to the basics episode, featuring a conversation with two fun-loving Aruba vacationers.  We talk about how they first discovered Aruba, where they stay, what they like to do and of course they visit the eye of the hurricane.  Then entire episode lasts about 50 minutes and it is chock full of good times and Aruba vibes.   On this episode of One Happy Podcast, you will: Hear about the procedure for getting a Palapa at the Marriott Find out about the difference between pool people and beach people Hear Bev and Bill’s perspective on when you should you rent a car or not Find all about their experience with the Aruba Trike's excursion Hear about a delicious dining in tradition the couple does on the island Properties and Activities mentioned this episode: Holiday Inn Aruba Marriott Ocean Club Aruba Ritz Carlton Aruba   Aruba Ray’s Comedy Trike’s Aruba Restaurants and places mentioned this episode: Cuba's Cooking Smokey Joe's Soprano's Piano The Buccaneer The Lazy Turtle The Old Fisherman The West Deck Aruba Zeerovers Wacky Wahoo Links and Resources Mentioned in this episode of the show: Onehappypodcast.com One Happy Podcast Facebook Page One Happy Podcast Instagram One Happy Podcast Twitter

On this “Super-sized” episode of Aruba’s number one podcast, “One Happy Podcast”, I am being joined by my partner in crime Maggie.  We will be going over our most recent trip to Aruba which took place from February 25th through March 6th.  If you haven’t heard any of these recap episodes before, we basically go over everything we did on our visit.  We start from departing our home all the way through boarding the plane to return home.   During this hour-plus long episode of the show we go over several activities we participated in down on the island.  Some of these activities include Aruba Ray’s Comedy at the Marriott Stellaris Hotel and Casino, the brand new Kukoo Kunuku Wine and Tapas tour, watching the Grand Carnival Parade, beach hopping, bar hopping and skydiving.  We also talk about the restaurants we visited during the vacation.  Among the restaurants we discussed are some of our old favorites like Quinta Del Carmen and Azzurro as well as places we visited for the first time like Legend’s and Aflie’s.  All together I think we talk about more than 20 different eateries.  I’m not sure how you eat at more than 20 different places in 10 days, especially since we repeated a couple and packed lunches at times.     While ten days is a nice length of time to be in Aruba, for some reason it still was not enough.  The need you feel for wanting to get back into your Aruba routine directly clashes with wanting to try new things.  For an island that is so darn small, no matter how many times or how often you visit there is always something new to discover.  Maybe that’s just one more reason why we all keep coming back.     Maggie and I had a lot of fun on the trip and continued that fun during this podcast episode. We opened a bottle of wine, turned on the microphones and this is what happened.  Thank you so much for supporting the show. Also, please excuse my congestion going from Aruba to Baltimore clogged me up for a couple of days so I do sound a bit more nasally than normal.     On This Episode of One Happy Podcast you will: Hear about our experience at the Grand Carnival Parade Find out about the brand new Kukoo Kunuku “Wine on down the road” wine and tapas tour. Listen to me describe what it’s like to jump out of an airplane Get our opinions about no less than 20 places around the island to eat Find out why getting a rental with a full tank of gas is not all it’s cracked up to be.   Properties and venues mentioned this episode: Aruba Ray’s Comedy The Aruba Hilton The Playa Linda Resort The Aruba Ritz Carlton The Marriott Stellaris Hotel and Casino Skydive Aruba The Renaissance Aruba Resort   Restaurants mentioned this episode: 14 Bis Alfie’s in Aruba Amore Mio Azzurro Ristorante Italiano Azia Restaurant and Lounge Bingo Bugaloe Chalet Suisse Eagle Beach Food Truck Eduardo’s Beach Shack Aruba Fermin’s Bbq Hostaria da Vittorio Legend’s Pub The Local Store L.G. On this episode of One Happy Podcast, I am being joined by my partner in crime and favorite co-host Maggie.  Being that we are preparing for another trip to Aruba, we figured this would be a good time to do our pre-Aruba vacation special.  So this is the show where we talk about what we plan on doing this next trip to Aruba.   Being that our trip is being put together so last minute, plans are a bit sparse for now.  However, instead of this being looked as a hindrance, it's actually an opportunity.  A lot of times we can get too bogged down in planning and end up with something that looks like one of those cruise ship itineraries.  You know, be here at 4pm and then at 7pm we are going to do this.  Its cool to be organized and all but it can turn a vacation into something that ends up not being very relaxing.  So this is a great opportunity for us to just jot down a few “must dos” and let everything else just fall into place.   So on this episode of One Happy Podcast Maggie and I start out discussing our pre-flight night before plans.  After that we talk about those couple of absolutely must-do activities and attractions.  While the list of potential activities may be small the potential for excitement is pretty much through the roof.  Of course, we also talk about restaurants.  What would an episode of One Happy Podcast be without food related discussion?   As always I had a lot of fun hanging out with the Magg and you guys.  Hopefully you guys enjoy the banter as much as I did.  Also remember to stay tuned for what is sure to be an incredible adventure in all of our favorite playground… Aruba! On This Episode of One Happy Podcast you will: Find out why we think a pre-flight hotel beats an hour long early morning drive Hear about our plans for the Carnival Grand Parade Learn why we think Aruba Ray’s Comedy at the Marriott is a “must do” Be the first to hear about Aruba Curt potentially jumping out of a perfectly good airplane Find out about my plans to find out who has the best burgers and pizza on the island   Restaurants mentioned this episode: Amore Mio Bingo Aruba Bugaloe Beach Bar and Grill Iguana Joe’s Aruba Madame Janette Matthews Aruba Moomba Beach Bar and Restaurant Quinta Del Carmen Ricardo’s Aruba Sidebar Bistro The Local Store Aruba Urataka Center Pizza Activities mentioned this episode: The Aruban Tastes Aruba Ray’s Comedy Aruba California Lighthouse Tour Skydive Aruba   Links and Resources Mentioned in this episode of the show:   Onehappypodcast.com One Happy Podcast Facebook Page One Happy Podcast Instagram One Happy Podcast Twitter
