Why do successful people feel the most overwhelmed during the holidays? You've built something impressive, you're capable of managing complex projects and leading teams, yet the moment the holidays arrive, you're barely hanging on. You're over-functioning for everyone else, saying yes when you mean no, and by the time you collapse into bed, your mind won't stop racing about everything you still need to do tomorrow. Who is Sara Intonato? Sara Intonato is the founder of Autism Changemakers, a parent coach, consultant, and bestselling author. She's also been a yoga teacher and nervous system practitioner for over 20 years. Her work is rooted in ancient, time-tested practices from her 11 trips to India to study Ashtanga yoga, supporting parents of nonspeaking autistic children to regulate their nervous systems in high-stakes moments where safety is a concern and regulation isn't optional. Sara's Story: Why Ancient Practices Matter in Our Instant Gratification World Sara took her first trip to India in her early 20s thinking she'd have a beautiful spiritual experience and get it out of her system. Instead, she discovered that to truly master something, there's no shortcut. You can't buy a certificate or complete a weekend training. You have to show up day after day, year after year, and let the practice change you. What makes Sara different from the trendy breathwork facilitators flooding the coaching space is her commitment to teaching these practices properly. In India, she learned that advanced breathwork practices were withheld from students until they had a strong foundation because introducing them too soon would be "crazy making." They would move energy around so profoundly that students wouldn't be able to manage it. This is exactly what Sara sees happening now in mainstream wellness culture. Coaches are throwing breathwork into their programs after minimal training, parents and professionals are trying to release trauma without knowing how to regulate what comes up, and people are more dysregulated than ever. Sara brings these ancient tools to her clients and students in bite-sized pieces that are safe and effective for all levels, because who needs more chaos in their life right now? What we talk about in this episode: Why the holidays trigger grief and overwhelm for high achievers. It's not just about being busy. The holidays stir up emotions that feel inconvenient, whether it's comparing your reality to what you thought life would look like, dealing with family dynamics that activate old wounds, or simply the pressure to make everything magical while you're running on fumes. This episode normalizes that you can feel successful and still struggle during this season. The one-minute breathing practice that will ground you anywhere, anytime. Equal breathing through the nose (four counts in, four counts out) for just one minute is enough to shift your nervous system from reactive to regulated. No special equipment, no mantras, no perfect conditions required. Sara explains exactly how to do this practice and why engaging your throat slightly (like you're gargling) activates your vagus nerve and creates deeper regulation. Why you can't help anyone when you're dysregulated. Sara works with parents managing aggressive behaviors and safety concerns with their children. The homework is always the same: regulate yourself first. When you're dysregulated, you escalate everyone around you. When you ground yourself, you create space for co-regulation. This applies whether you're parenting, leading a team, or trying to survive Christmas dinner with your in-laws. The ice cube trick that interrupts spiraling thoughts instantly. When you can't escape the room or take a minute to breathe, grab some ice cubes. Hold them for one minute. The intense sensation forces you into presence because you literally can't think about anything else. It's a pattern interrupt that brings you back to your body so you can respond instead of react. How to train your mind to concentrate using Zen Buddhist meditation. Set a timer for five minutes and count each breath (inhale one, exhale two, up to ten, then start over). Every time your mind wanders to Aunt Patty's comment or your to-do list, go back to one and start again. Don't be surprised if you don't get past two. This isn't about perfection, it's about observing where your mind goes without judgment and teaching it to concentrate on one thing: your breath. Why reactivity is destroying our ability to make good decisions. We live in an Amazon Prime culture where everything is instant. But this reactivity is getting in the way of our functioning. We think every thought and feeling requires immediate action. This practice teaches your nervous system that it's okay to sit with discomfort, to not scratch the itchy nose, to let your foot fall asleep during meditation. Everything will pass. You won't die from waiting. The real reason you can't feel holiday magic (and it's not the circumstances). Holiday magic is just presence. That's it. But how can you possibly enjoy being here now when your mind is in five different places? Sara shares how she creates magic by putting on Christmas music, baking, and allowing herself to just be in the moment because life will be plenty busy in January. The magic isn't external fairy dust, it's choosing to be present. What your kids will actually remember about this season. It's not how many vegetables they ate or how organized the gift wrapping was. They'll remember how you felt. Your energy is what people experience from you. If you're emanating stress and overwhelm, that's what everyone will carry from their interactions with you. The quality of your life, your relationships, your work changes drastically when you take the time to regulate yourself. This episode is for you if you've ever: Felt like you're barely hanging on through the holidays, one comment away from snapping Snapped at your kids or partner after a long day, then felt guilty for not being present Numbed with food, wine, or scrolling because slowing down feels uncomfortable Thought "I don't have time for mindfulness or nervous system practices" Believed meditation and breathwork are too complicated or not for people like you Been the strong one everyone leans on while you're quietly crumbling inside Said yes to holiday commitments when you meant no because it feels easier Collapsed into bed exhausted but your mind won't stop racing about tomorrow Wondered "how much longer can I keep this up?" Known you should take better care of yourself but always run out of time and energy Built a life people admire but feel like you're missing the magic everyone else seems to experience Felt reactive and stressed, robbing yourself and your family of presence and connection How to Stop Being Reactive and Start Being Present Here's what most people miss about nervous system regulation: they think it requires complicated practices, special training, or hours of time they don't have. So they do nothing. They stay in reactivity, they over-function for everyone else, and they wonder why the holidays feel so overwhelming instead of magical. But Sara's work proves that regulation doesn't require perfection or massive time investments. It requires one minute. Four counts in, four counts out. Ice cubes in your hands when you can't escape the room. Counting your breath when your mind is spinning. The cost of staying dysregulated isn't just that you feel stressed. It's that your children remember mom as a ball of stress. Your colleagues remember your overwhelm, not your competence. Your partner experiences your reactivity, not your love. You rob yourself of the presence and connection you're craving because you think you don't have time to regulate. Ready to stop feeling overwhelmed and start feeling present? If you're reading this and recognizing yourself, if you've been running on fumes for so long that you don't even remember what regulated feels like, it's time to stop. The Congruency Audit is where we look at the gap between the success you've built on the outside and what you're actually feeling on the inside. We'll identify the exact patterns keeping you stuck in over-functioning and reactivity, the wounds driving your need to be strong for everyone else, and what it's going to take for you to finally create success that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside. This isn't about adding more to your plate. It's about understanding why you keep saying yes when you mean no, why you can't give yourself permission to rest, and what needs to shift so you can finally stop running and start being present. ARYA! ARYA! ARYA! ARYA....gonna listen to the whole episode today? I would suggest doing so because we have a class 1 BANGER on our hands! Aunt Patty comes to discuss maybe a top five episode in the series. We discuss character arcs, visuals, music, and pacing in this masterpiece of an episode. We get a little emotional when discussing what regrets we have but in the end, we have a lovely discussion with lots of excitement-and don't forget to listen to the end when Aunt Patty absolutely blows Xan out of the scat ocean. The soothing voice of Aunt Patty returns as we discuss some very real current topics that align with good ole GOT, not to mention discussing all the men in the show that keeps Aunt Patty thirsty. Get ready, 'cause I kind of came for everyone in this episode. First I unpack the mystery of "ugly cute" celebrities and why they're popular with women (here's a hint, it's being a nice person). Then I get frustrated with adults that give BS advice to younger people -- someone tell your Aunt Patty that we already know how to pay rent. Then I ponder an age-old dilemma, Are We Millenials or Gen Z? Later, I talk about some of the best and worst parts of having to interact with so many people because I live in a city and describe a store that I'm convinced is a portal to another dimension.

“We're here, but we're not all there!” - an infamous quote from my Aunt Patty talking about our family. Can you relate? The holiday songs are talking all about inner peace, White Christmas' and sh*t, lol, but for some of us, it's a reminder that we're single or that a few hours with family is enough (Aunt Patty excluded). In this episode, I share 4 key questions to ask yourself before reacting or responding - whether it's to your family or swiping on the ol' dating app. I call it “building the pause.” Have a listen to figure out what it means to build the pause & how you can do it…You didn't think I was going to give away those questions in the caption, did you?! ha!) Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years. Well, today, I decided to conclude the trilogy of the Honey Franchise with Honey, We shrunk Ourselves, which was released straight to video in 1997. Movie Synopsis: Wayne Szalinzki, a wacky, absent-minded inventor, is back again but only this time he decides to use his infamous shrink machine just one more time. His wife Diane asks him to get rid of the "Tiki Man" a large tiki sculpture. Wayne refuses to get rid of it so he decides to restart the shrink ray and reduces the Tiki Man to pocket-size. However, after Wayne shrinks the Tiki Man the machine is accidentally activated and Wayne ends up shrinking himself and his brother Gordon. Meanwhile, when Gordon's wife Patty and Diane were going on a vacation they went back to the house when Patty suddenly realizes she forgot Mitch's medicine for his potassium deficiency. When they were about to leave, they decide to sneak into the attic and surprise the men, but the shrink ray is activated once again, and the ladies are shrunk as well. So the team must be very brave of disgusting household insects the size of dinosaurs and more in their biggest adventure to get their children's attention. The character of Diane is beyond ruined in this film as she comes off as quite a "bitch" in this movie and her and Wayne act like they don't love each other and she can't wait to abandon him and their 10 year old son Adam (which even Wayne seems to also act like Adam is such an inconvenience) for a girls weekend with her sister in law. We also have the new addition of the Szalinski Uncle Gordon and Aunt Patty along with cousins Jenny (played by Allison Mack) and Mitch (the one with the potassium deficiency). Quark is dead and Amy and Nick have moved on to better things like their own lives with their own family and or college, but at least they get a name drop. Mila Kunis's first film role, so adorable. Bug Hall (1994 The Little Rascals only this time he has wheat colored hair instead of Alfalfa black)plays 10 year old Adam. Jenny's crush who is repeatedly referred to by his whole name Ricky King even to his face when he and his cronies crash the kid's party. Volcano Chili Lava with Hot Dog People is Lava-licious! Only in Wayne's mind would a Sports Illustrated For Kids be as bad as a Playboy Mag. Even though this is the worst in the trilogy, I had a fun time with this movie and hope you all do too! An as always: Stay Safe, Stay Strong, Stay Positive! We WILL Get Through This!

Welcome to the last episode in this Retirement Plan Live series. This is the Flying Solo Edition where you can learn how to rock single retirement. Several listeners offer fantastic retirement questions and comments that I answer on this episode and the answers will interest you. On the practical planning segment of the show I am joined by Herb who gives us a male perspective on retiring single, so you won’t want to miss that. Be sure to listen to this episode as well as the webinar on June 7th to hear the grand finale and find out what happens to Sam’s retirement plans. How do you save your own retirement funds from an ill spouse? The first retirement question is actually from a married person, but she brings up an interesting point. Jackie is concerned that she and her husband’s shared retirement funds may run out with his exorbitant end of life medical expenses. She would like to know if there is a way to protect her own IRA account so that she will have enough money for herself to live on after he passes. End of life medical expenses can be incredibly costly, so this is a valid question that affects so many. Singles may not realize that this question is one advantage of being single. Listen to the hot topic segment to hear my answer to this challenging retirement question. What inflation rate should be used for retirement planning? Another listener has a retirement question about inflation rates. It is important to hedge against inflation when planning retirement. I use a rate of 4% even though there has only been a 2% inflation rate over the past 15 years. It is important to use all the available data over a long period of time to get a better idea of what inflation could do. If one only relies on 15 years of data to plan then it doesn’t paint a complete picture of what could happen. Listen to this episode of Retirement Answer Man to hear retirement questions and why and how I calculate inflation for retirement planning. What can you learn from my aunt and uncle about retirement planning? My own aunt and uncle join me on the practical planning segment to give us their perspective on retirement issues that you may not have considered. Recently after my aunt had surgery they were surprised to find that Aunt Patty needed 24-hour care for a whole week after a routine surgery. This brings about the retirement question: how do you plan for 24-hour care? This is hard enough for a married couple to plan for, and if you’re single it may take serious consideration. If you are considering moving to a new area after you retire you may also want to consider the medical facilities available. Listen to this episode as my aunt and uncle share insight that only comes with hindsight. Finally, a single man volunteers to represent half the population! Herb steps up to give a male perspective on retiring single. He recently contacted me and was the only male to volunteer to share his point of view on retirement. Thankfully Herb is a great candidate to represent half the single retirement population. Herb is 55 and planning on retiring in 3-5 years. Since he lives where there is a high cost of living he would prefer to move when he retires. One of the benefits of retiring single is that the choice is all his, and he won’t have to compromise. Herb is great at getting out of his comfort zone and feels that this will help him to create a network of friends wherever he decides to land. Listen to the practical planning segment to hear Herb’s perspective on retiring single. We made a vow to Aunt Patty that we would release another episode, so here we are. This week was...not great! But we finally have a clear picture of the storylines of this season. Larry begins this episode with a tribute to his recently departed Aunt Patty, who was integral in his life growing up, particularly in his appreciation of movies. He then pays tribute to our first fallen James Bond, Sir Roger Moore. After that things get a little less serious as he's joined by Greg O. for an epic Star Wars rant. Don't worry, kids. Dr. Jess is there to offer resistance, which is futile, of course.
Taylor's Celebration of Life on February 20, 2017, David and Julie did an excellent job writing and delivering a powerful eulogy in remembrance of their mom. You touched so many groups of people in your 66 years on earth, and though you may not know it you were a caretaker and mother to far more than the three of us. You were a loving woman full of deep compassion towards everyone who crossed your path. When someone passes, the typical response is that there are no words to describe how much you will be missed, but through social media those words are there, and we want to share them with you, Mom, and everyone who is here to celebrate your life. After pouring through memories, cards, emails, letters, and Facebook posts, we can sum up how everyone feels about you with their beautiful words of remembrance. "I love you Barb" - Nad Julie Domres That name is a little inside joke between mom and dad, but It is obvious that the first person we should talk about is dad. 48 years is a very long time to spend every waking moment with someone, and you and dad were the epitome of true love. Karen, David, and I have always looked up to both of you, and your solid foundation of marriage has given us a guide to how our marriages should look. I think we can truly say that you and dad were not only spouses but best friends. We know that dad is going to miss you more than anyone in this room, but don't worry mom, we will take care of him. David Taylor “True beauty bubbles up from the kindness of your heart, and reflects smiles onto those you love… you, my dearest Ya-Ya sister, were the definition of true beauty… and will be missed. But Grandma Jean needed our Ya-Ya love, and you brought that to her today. I am so lucky to have the family I do, and my Ya-ya sisters. We are all bound together and will always be here for you and your family. #chachayaya #yayasinheaven #missingyoudearly. – Love, Adriana Julie Domres So mom, we can’t talk about your life without talking about the importance of family. You always put family first and have taught us to do the same. In the last few weeks we have all spent a lot of time talking about the past, and we have learned so much about your life. We knew that you were born in Phoenix and that you moved around a lot as a child, but we had no idea that you attended 42 different schools before you were in 9th grade. Grandma and Grandpa truly lived a vagabond lifestyle, and you guys were along for the ride. You didn’t have a lot of money or material things as a little girl, but you always had your siblings. Uncle Donny, Aunt Patty, Aunt Mary, Aunt Jean, Aunt Judy, Aunt Karen, Jimmy, and your favorite cousin Jan… you were always there for each other. Jim was so lucky to have you as his guardian, and you handled that responsibility with grace. You loved him and raised him like one of your own. As Aunt Karen and I were sitting up with you in the middle of the night last week, Aunt Karen shared a lot of stories about your childhood. She said to me, “I never had many friends when I was little. But that’s OK, I never needed a friend, because I always had your Mom.” You were her best friend right up until the end. We never realized how tough it really was for you when you were young, because you always put on that beautiful smile and looked at the bright side of life. David Taylor “God puts people in your life for a reason. She took a chance on me and hired me to work in her shop. I am beyond blessed to have had the opportunity to be part of her life. She taught me so much and I will be forever grateful. And because of her, I have so many people that I can call my friends, my “flower shop family.” Barb, you fought a hard battle and now you have found peace. I am certain that you are having an amazing reunion. God has welcomed you in Heaven’s most beautiful garden. Love you always Barb.” – Love, Erica Julie Domres Because family always came first, instead of putting family in front of your friends you turned friends into family. To name a few of the many groups of people you have touched: Your St. Kevin’s friends and your Card Club, your “Flower Shop Family,” The Dakota Court Gang, all of our friends, your Army friends, and your high school friends. I don’t think you realize how many lives you have truly impacted. I know all of my friends consider you a second mom, and Karen and Dave’s friends can say the same. When you made a friend, they were a friend for life. David Taylor “My beautiful mom lost her battle with cancer today and went to be with the Lord. We are heartbroken and cannot imagine life without her, but will be strong the way she raised us, and make her proud. I love you mom.” – Love, Karen Julie Domres Mom, how do we put into words what you meant to us? How do we go on without you to guide us? Who are we going to call every day on our way home from work, and who is going to remind us how to make your delicious beef burgundy recipe? These are just some of the thoughts that are swirling around in our brains. I don’t think you ever realized how much we loved you mom. Do you know that when my boys and Abbey were little, they would rather be with you and Dad than anywhere? You were such a great Grandma, and Danny, Ryan and Abbey love you so much. We will be sure that Dave and Jenny’s future kids know what an amazing woman you were, and that Grandma Barb loves them and will always be watching over them. You taught us to be strong, you taught us to be compassionate, and above all, you taught us to love God. We will continue to do everything we can to make you proud. David Taylor Since we have been full of quotes today, we thought we would end with some song lyrics by MercyMe. I am not the musical talent in the family so I will read the lyrics. “Surrounded by your glory, what will my heart feel? Will I dance for you Jesus, or in awe of you be still? Will I stand in your presence, or to my knees will I fall; will I sing Hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all? I can only imagine. I can only imagine." Mom, we can only imagine what you are doing in Heaven. We are going to imagine you dancing for Jesus with your mom, your dad, Aunt Jean and all of our other family and friends, with Elvis Presley and Patsy Cline singing in the background. We can’t imagine what life on earth will be like without you, but we will envision the day we meet again in Heaven and all dance for Jesus together. We will forever hold you in our hearts. We will forever love you, Mom. Thoughts I am posting these words to stand as a tribute to Barb Taylor. The idea is that those who could not attend the funeral could hear me reading the eulogy. I hope that these words will comfort you in the future. It was difficult for me to record this. I recorded the eulogy a couple of times, but I went with the original recording because it was the best. I felt compelled to record this podcast in the hope that if one person benefits from this podcast, it was worth it. We love and miss you, Barb.

Aunt Patty was my last “upline” relative to pass away and we had her memorial in Oklahoma and Arkansas recently. It was a stark reminder that we will all return to the earth one day, but what ENERGY we create in our lives, here and now, is what will remain in the cosmos for the ages.No matter where you are in your life right now, young or old, healthy or not, etc., what matters is what we are creating every day and how we intentionally live our lives. The journey often begins with programming our subconscious mind.Let's memorialize Aunt Patty and in the process take a reflective look at our own lives and the energy we will one day leave behind.
