Asha tries to bring her mother's family to her aid in gaining the Seastone Chair. But she  hadn't heard of her uncle Aeron's call to a Kingsmoot. She thinks she can win by force of reason, but her family think that uncle Euron's wealth and magic might prevail. Mackelly and Simon rattle Nagga's bones.Chapter ReviewAsha Greyjoy is on Harlaw, the wealthiest and most populous of the Iron Islands. Her mother was a Harlaw, and their Lord Rodrik has called his bannermen to support Asha's claim to the Seastone Chair. There are many, but Asha's knows deep down that there aren't enough. She arranges for her captives, the Glovers, to be treated with respect and her men to be properly fed. She then seeks out her uncle who, as is his wont, is reading. Rodrik tells her of Aeron's plan to host a Kingsmoot on Great Wyk. This is news to Asha. Euron will go, there is no word from Victarion. She believes she can convince the captains, as the only descendent of Balon. But Rodrik warns her not to go. They'll never accept a woman, Euron has already moved to bribe and intimidate the captains, and the history of Kingsmoots suggests that the losers don't get to leave in one piece. She takes her leave, knowing that despite his protestations, her uncle will be there. She meets Tristifer Botley, a childhood friend. He professes his love for her, but she denies it. He's saving himself for her, she's doing nothing of the sort. He's a lord now, worthy of her hand. But she tells him no. When he grabs at her, her knife is at his throat before he can blink. She's not his wife, she's his queen.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Asha Greyjoy - Daughter of King Balon Greyjoy.Balon Greyjoy - Recently deceased King of the Iron Islands.Euron Greyjoy - Recently returned brother of Balon.Victarion Greyjoy - Younger brother of Balon. Aeron “Damphair” Greyjoy, learns of his eldest brother Balon's death and their brother Euron's claiming the Sea Stone Chair. He is not happy with that outcome and calls for a kingsmoot to decide the next king. Simon and Mackelly consider the options.Chapter Review:Aeron Greyjoy is drowning men in the sea (to bring them back with the kiss of life) when news arrives that his brother King Balon is dead. Aeron doesn't break down or anything, but he recalls Balon with awe and reverence for his returning the Iron Islands to its traditional god (the Drowned God) and practices (they really don't sow).At Hammerhorn (Lord Goodbrother's seat) Aeron learns further that his eldest remaining brother Euron has returned to Pike. He was banished for life by Balon, but has conveniently arrived back the day after the king's death. Goodbrother wants to know if Euron's claim should be supported, but the prophet needs time to pray on this one.Aeron had spoken with Balon recently, and knows that Balon thought Asha should succeed him - and she too has claimed the throne. But Aeron is skeptical that the Iron Islanders would accept a queen. Theon is believed dead and Aeron despises Euron - he won't have someone so unrighteous on the throne. He doesn't want the honor for himself, so that leaves only Victarion, Aeron's older, but Euron's younger, brother. While praying, he's struck by inspiration: in the old days kings were chosen not by hereditary. He calls for a kingsmoot on Nagga's Hill on Old Wyk. All claimants and captains should go there to choose their next ruler.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Aeron “Damphair” Greyjoy - Youngest brother of King Balon Greyjoy. Priest of the Drowned God.Balon Greyjoy - King of the Iron Islands. Died falling from a bridge at Pike.Euron “Crow's Eye” Greyjoy - Younger brother of Balon, elder brother to Aeron. Was banished by Balon, but now returned to Pike.Victarion Greyjoy - Next younger brother of Balon. Currently holding Moat Cailin for the Iron Islands. Asha Greyjoy - Daughter of Balon. Fierce fighter and reaver. Well respected.Theon Greyjoy - Younger brother to Asha. Grew up in Winterfell as ward of the Starks. Betrayed them. Was last seen losing Winterfell to Ramsay Bolton.Kingsmoot - Ancient rite, whereby king's of the Iron Islands were chosen from the worthy. Sembra andare tutto bene forse: Winterfell è caduta e Balon Greyjoy, nuovo re, propone un'alleanza e traditori vengono scoperti in città... perché allora è terrorizzato? Cat rides through the rain to Edmure's wedding venue. Along the way, she manages to offend both her brother and her son. Robb contemplates his heir, and his choice to fill the role until he has children isn't one that Cat can get behind. We get confirmation about the fate of Balon Greyjoy. Finally, Robb unveils his plan to unseat the Iron Born from Moat Cailin.Chapter Review:Catelyn Stark rides with her son King Robb's host through non-stop rain from Riverrun to the Twins, on their way to Lord Edmure's wedding. Robb's young queen Jeyne had trouble saying goodbye to her husband, but eventually Robb sent her back to Riverrun, where she'll await his return. Edmure is nervous about his future bride. He can't see any reason Lord Walder Frey would pick a beautiful daughter to marry to him. Edmure's shallow thinking irks Cat and her retort offends him.King Robb tells his mother that he needs to have an heir. With Bran and Rickon dead, and no children conceived between him and Jeyne, he's considering Jon Snow. Cat points out that Jon is a brother of the Night's Watch, so can't hold lands or titles. Robb figures if he sends the Night's Watch 100 men, they'll find a way to let Jon go. After that, Robb will legitimize Jon and he'll act as Robb heir until Robb has children. Cat can't support the plan. Robb says it doesn't matter, he's the king.Cat is present when a ship captain tells Robb and his council that Balon Greyjoy is dead and his brother Euron has assumed the Seastone Chair. Robb then tells of his plan to get past the Iron Born at Moat Cailin. He sends two of his officers to rouse the crannogmen to help his host navigate the bogs of the Neck. He will use their knowledge of the area to attack Moat Cailin from multiple sides. Robb plans to send Cat to Seaguard for safe keeping. Davos speaks the truth to king Stannis and is rewarded with his freedom and a promotion. Melisandre uses the blood (not all of it, thankfully) of Edric Storm to curse the false kings: Joffrey Baratheon, Balong Greyjoy, and Robb Stark. Mackelly and Simon hope that Robb's string of bad luck is behind him.Chapter Review:Davos Seaworth is brought from the dungeons of Dragonstone by Axel Florent, the brother of his cellmate Alester. Florent shares that he has seen Stannis on the throne in the flames. But a precondition was that he, Axel, become Stannis' Hand of the King. If Davos supports Florent good things will follow, but woe betide Seaworth should he fail to.Stannis asks Davos what he thinks of Floernt's plan to invade Claw Isle as punishment for Lord Celtigar's decision to bend the knee to Joffrey. Davos, Stannis' spirit animal, cannot help himself and dismisses the plan as pointless and unfair. The men of Claw Isle fought and died for Stannis on the Blackwater, while victory would be assured, those people deserve better of their king. Stannis agrees, dismisses Florent and makes Davos his Hand of the King.Enter Melisandre with a plate of swollen leeches. The blood comes from Edric Storm, Robert's bastard son, who is already much beloved within Dragonstone. The three leeches go in the flames each with a curse for Joffrey Baratheon, Balon Greyjoy, and Robb Stark.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Davos Seaworth - The Onion Knight. Tyrion attends a Small Council meeting chaired by his father. Much news is discussed. Afterward, Tywin announces that Cersei will marry Willas Tyrell, the heir to Highgarden, and Tyrion will marry Sansa Stark. Shae was unavailable for comment. Simon and Mackelly plan the bachelor party.Chapter Review:Tyrion Lannister attends the Small Council along with his father Tywin, uncle Kevan, sister Cersei, the familiar figures of Petyr Littlefinger Baelish, Lord Varys, and the reinstated Grand Maester Pycelle. In addition, Lords Tyrell, Redwyne, and Rowan take their seats. Tyrion's not sure he knows the rules of the new game, but he's sure he better learn them, fast. The news flows thick and fast:Randyll Tarly has defeated the northerners at Duskendale. Devan Lannister is rounding up the remnants of his late father Stafford's army to march on Riverrun. Balon Greyjoy offers alliance in return for recognition of him as King of the Isles and the North, Tywin's not ready to respond to that. Greyjoy is already doing everything the Lannisters would want of him - for nothing. Littlefinger is to woo and marry Lysa Arryn to bring the Vale over to King Joffrey. Tyrion takes over as Master of Coin - he senses that Baelish has left him a trap. The Reach lords divide the spoils of war. The Tyrells take Brightwater Keep from the Florents.Tywin dismisses all but family and announces that Cersei will marry. She's not pleased. He suggests some suitors but eventually chooses Willas Tyrell. She storms off. Tyrion is to marry Sansa Stark. Both of these are to derail the plan to marry Sansa to Willas, which Littlefinger unearthed and reported to Tywin. Lastly news of Robb's marriage to Jeyne Westerling is revealed. Tyrion is astonished. The Westerlings surely know what happens to those who cross Tywin. But Tywin is oddly sanguine, hinting that he might be pulling the strings.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Tyrion Lannister - Youngest son of Tywin Lannister. Theon is surrounded. Ser Rodrik Cassel has amassed Northern forces to surround and retake Winterfell. At the 11th hour, Theon is saved by Reek, who has brought hundreds of Bolton men. But Reek wants more than just Theon's good wishes. Simon and Mackelly weigh the treacheries.Chapter Review:Maester Luwin advises Theon Greyjoy to yield Winterfell. Ser Rodrik Cassel has brought perhaps 2,000 loyal northmen who have Winterfell surrounded. Theon doubts Luwin's loyalty, but the maester reminds him that he serves the Lord of Winterfell, who is Theon (kinda).Theon gives the ironborn a rousing speech, but only 17 rally to his cause. The rest flee back to his sister Asha. Ser Rodrik wants to parlay and Theon rides out to meet him. Cassel is twitching to kill the turncloak, but Theon has a trump card. At a signal, Rodrik's daughter Beth is paraded on the walls with a noose around her neck. Theon tells Rodrik that she dies at sunset and another citizen will join her every morning and night until the besiegers withdraw. Cassel offers himself in Beth's place, but Theon's not buying.Luwin suggest that Theon take the Black. Theon considers how high someone with his training might rise in the Night's Watch. But before he can answer, sounds of fighting are heard. Reek has returned, with hundreds of mounted Bolton men. They decimate the other northmen and kill Cassel and others. Reek reveals himself to be Ramsay Snow, Roose Bolton's bastard. Theon is grateful, but Ramsay's men are not done. Theon's nightly nightmares often revolve around his lies, deceits, and the atrocities he's committed. His sister Asha shoots him straight about his dire situation in Winterfell. He refuses to heed her advice and puts his last bit of hope on the shoulders of Reek. Simon and Mackelly raise their eyebrows in skepticism. Chapter Review:Theon Greyjoy wakes from another bad dream to learn that his sister Asha has finally arrived in Winterfell. On his way to the Winterfell Great Hall to see her, he's surrounded by bodyguards. Ironborn have been dropping like flies around the castle, since they returned from the mill with the bodies of Bran and Rickon. Theon knows it's Reek who has committed the murders, to keep the secret of what happened at the mill from getting out. However, Theon uses the kennel master Farlen as a scapegoat for the crimes, and beheads him.Asha has brought Theon reinforcements to help hold Winterfell. Unfortunately, she's brought him a mere 10 men. Theon says it's not enough, Ser Rodrik Cassel is riding toward the castle with an army. Asha points out that's something he should've thought about before taking Winterfell. She asks him to give up on the castle and come with her back to Deepwood Motte. He refuses, so she leaves. Theon gives Reek silver to buy men to help hold the castle. He then second-guesses why he didn't do the smart thing and leave with his sister. Theon is winning easy victories on the Stony Shore of the north against barely defended fishing villages. He and Dagmer make a plan to do something a bit bolder. Theon hopes to impress his father Balon. Simon and Mackelly reckon that they know better. Chapter Review: Theon's Iron Born raiders have taken a fishing village and decimated the Wild Hares with a trap. Only Benfred Tallhart survived and he is in custody. The northerner spits bile and hatred at Theon for his treachery. Aeron Damphair decrees that the prisoner must die for his words. Theon, despite knowing Benfred fairly well, consigns him to Damphair as a sacrifice to the Drowned God. Theon feels little pride and glory in the victory. Innocent villagers and reckless youths do not make for great stories. In his mind, he compares what he's up to with the noble battle of the Whispering Woods. Clearly his loyalties are partly divided. In trying to teach a couple of his men a lesson about squabbling over booty, Theon accidentally kills one of them. The others don't care, this just increases their share. Theon retreats to Foamdrinker and talks with his old teacher Dagmer Cleftjaw, master-of-arms for House Greyjoy. Theon reveals a plan to give them both a better story to tell of this war. Dagmer will besiege Torrhen's Square. The older man doesn't like this plan, but Theon reveals that this is just a ruse to lure Ser Rodrik Cassel and his men out of Winterfell, leaving the seat of House Stark undefended. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Theon Greyjoy - Heir to the Iron Islands. Sent to Pyke to bring the Greyjoy fleet into the war to help Robb Stark. Stony Shore - Western coast of the North. Scantily populated and ill-defended. Benfred Tallhart - Eldest son of Helman Tallhart. Captured and interrogated by Theon Greyjoy. Drowned by Aeron Greyjoy. Asha Greyjoy - Elder sister to Theon. Oldest surviving child of Balon Greyjoy. Balon Greyjoy - Lord of the Iron Islands. Father to Asha and Theon.  Victarion Greyjoy - Younger brother of Balon Greyjoy. Aeron Greyjoy - Youngest brother to Lord Balon. Priest of the Drowned God. Dour and devout. Known as Damphair. Dagmer Cleftjaw - Master-of-arms for House Greyjoy. Captain of the Foamdrinker. Theon views his new ship. Makes a new lady-friend. Admits his inner secrets to her. Discovers he's been tricked. And gets one further slap in the face from his father's war plans. Mackelly and Simon offer Theon some alternatives. Chapter Review: Theon Greyjoy admires his new ship in Lordsport. She has room for 50 oars and a deck that could take 100 men. He's approached by Esgred, wife of the ship-builder Sigrin. They flirt and Theon is very interested. He reckons she is too good for Sigrin, Esgred reckons the new ship is too good for Theon. He invites her to a feast and she agrees. They ride together on Theon's new horse Smiler who he obtained from Sawane Botley, who couldn't cope with the size and fierceness of the beast. Theon is far more comfortable on horseback than his countrymen. He gropes Esgred, but she removes his hand. They discuss Theon's claim to be heir of the Iron Islands and the relative claims of his elder sister Asha (she's a woman, Theon will marry her off) and his uncles Euron (missing two years possibly dead), Victarion (solid but unimaginative), and Aeron (given himself over to religion). Upon arrival at Pyke, Theon is amazed to discover that Esgred is in fact Asha. He sulks all the way to the feast where she, not he, is seated beside their father. After the meal, Balon summarizes their war plans: Theon will harry the Stormy Shore, Asha will take Deepwood Motte, and Victarion will conquer Moat Cailin. Balon cares only for war with the Starks, and trusts Theon with only the most menial of tasks. Characters/Places/Names/Events:Theon Greyjoy - Heir to the Iron Islands. Sent to Pyke to bring the Greyjoy fleet into the war to help Robb Stark. Asha Greyjoy - Elder sister to Theon. Oldest surviving child of Balon Greyjoy. Balon Greyjoy - Lord of the Iron Islands. Father to Asha and Theon. Euron Greyjoy - Brother of Balon Greyjoy. Been absent from the Iron Islands for more than two years. Possibly dead. Victarion Greyjoy - Younger brother of Balon Greyjoy. Aeron Greyjoy - Youngest brother to Lord Balon. Priest of the Drowned God. Dour and devout. Known as Damphair. The Sea Bitch - Theon's warship. Theon returns home to Pike after 10 years a captive. His welcome is not all he had dreamed it would be. His father, Balon, doesn't want to pay the gold price for his crown, he'd rather pay the iron price. Mackelly and Simon weigh the options and worry for Winterfell. Chapter Review: Theon Greyjoy arrives back in Pyke after 10 years away. His heart swells when he sees the kraken sigil flying above the ramparts. He has one last visit with the captain's daughter, telling her of the old ways of the Iron Islands and how she might be his salt wife - basically a sex slave - she's not entirely opposed. But Theon is more concerned with returning his family to past glories. When the ship docks, he's a bit puzzled by the lack of fanfare. A priest of the Drowned God offers a ride up to Pike. The priest is Theon's uncle Aeron, youngest brother of Lord Balon. Aeron was a fun-loving youth, but is now devout and joyless. He and Theon do not get on very well.  When Theon finally gets an audience with his father, he's treated as an outsider, an emissary of a hostile foreign force, and certainly not as the prodigal son returned. Theon lays out the strategy, the Ironmen's fleet to attack the Westerlands and in return Balon will be given independence and his crown back. But Balon sees other uses for his fleet that don't involve gifts from the hated Starks.  Characters/Places/Names/Events:  Theon Greyjoy - Heir to the Iron Islands and former ward of Ned Stark. Sent to Pike to bring the Greyjoy fleet into the war to help Robb Stark.  Asha Greyjoy - Elder sister to Theon. Oldest surviving child of Balon Greyjoy.  Balon Greyjoy - Lord of the Iron Islands. The North sends its demands to King's Landing, knowing full well they won't be accepted. News arrives of various setbacks. Cat determines to solicit help from King Renly Baratheon. Mackelly and Simon consider what Robb's next move should be. Chapter Review: Robb reads his demands of Cersei to her cousin Cleos Frey. He's to take them to her and return with her reply. They include the return of all prisoners, delivery of 10 highborn Lannisters as hostages, concession that the North and the Riverlands are now their own kingdom. In return, all the prisoners taken by the north will be freed, with one golden exception: Jamie. Bereaved Rickard Karstark doesn't even stick around to listen.  Cat tells Robb that he did well, but things aren't going great. The Riverlands lords are dispersing to defend their homes against Tywin's raiding parties. The main army is camped at Riverrun with no clear idea of a next step. Clamor is rising for an attack on Harrenhal, but that will cost lives and won't be easy. Robb wants Cat to go home to Bran and Rickon. She says she wants to stay with her father.  Later with her uncle Brynden, Cat learns that the Lannisters are building a new army in the West, which threatens to trap Robb in a pincer. They decide that the best way forward is to lure Tywin out of Harrenhal, but he's no Edmure. The only way to make that happen would be to create a new threat that he couldn't ignore. Cat determines to travel south and beseech King Renly to come into the theatre and draw Tywin into action. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Robb Stark - Eldest son of Eddard (Ned) and Catelyn (Cat) Stark. Crowned King in the North after his victory at Riverrun. Grey Wind - The direwolf of Robb Stark. Cat and company arrive in Riverrun to find Lord Hoster Tully on his deathbed. With both Baratheon brothers vying to take the throne from their nephew, the Northern lords don't know who to support. The Greatjohn Umber has a creative solution, and declares Robb the King in the North to general approval. The boys dip their lances and consider bending the knee. Chapter Review: Catelyn re-enters Riverrun, where she grew up, for the first time in years. She's escorted to her father's rooms by her brother Edmure, recently freed from captivity in Jamie Lannister's host. Lord Hoster is near death but is glad to receive Cat. He's less thrilled to hear that his brother has come home. The old guy still has smouldering animosity for Brynden, and a fondness for his first grandson Robb. Cat finds Robb praying with the northern lords in the Godswood, where she played as a child. He's too busy to see his grandpa, as news has arrived that Renly Baratheon has wed Margery Tyrell and claimed the Iron Throne. With Tywin Lannister retreating to Harrenhal, the path forward for the northern army is not clear. Stannis has the better claim, but Renly has more (i.e., some) charisma. When it feels like the discussion is going, nowhere the GreatJohn Umber rises and dismisses all these southern kings, they mean nothing to him. The only king he'd follow is Robb Stark: the King in the North. All agree. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Robb Stark - Eldest son of Eddard (Ned) and Catelyn (Cat) Stark. Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell. Wife of Lord Eddard Stark and daughter of Hoster Tully, the Lord Paramount of the Riverlands. Hoster Tully - Lord of Riverrun. Robb Stark's host lures a large Lannister force away from their siege of Riverrun. Battle ensues in the Whispering Woods. Cat watches and mostly listens, and is rewarded with the capture of none-other-than Jamie Lannister and several of his kin. The boys discuss the shift in the balance of power. Chapter Review: Brydnen Tully reports that Jamie Lannister's forces are split into three, in order to surround Riverrun. His outriders have prevented any news (of the split of Robb's forces) from reaching Jamie, and a series of raids and retreats have shown that Jamie is a bit bored and inclined to chase down the raiders. A plan is hatched. Cat watches through the fog, as northern forces array around a valley in the Whispering Woods. The latest and largest raiding party enters the valley, with Jamie and a large contingent of his besiegers in hot pursuit. Horns sound and the trap is spring. Cat cannot really see much, but she hears muffled fighting.  When it is all over, Theon Greyjoy and GreatJon Umber drag Jamie Lannister before her. He came awfully close to getting to Robb Stark, but he now represents a prized bargaining chip. Other Lannister cousins and loyalists are also captured, and the whole direction of the conflict has tipped. Characters/Places/Names/Events:Robb Stark - Eldest son of Eddard (Ned) and Catelyn (Cat) Stark. Current Stark in Winterfell. Catelyn Stark - Lady of Winterfell. Bran watches the Karstarks arrive at Winterfell. He talks to Osha, who warns him of the Others and assures him that the danger to their safety is not from King's Landing, but from north of the Wall. Nevertheless, the Stark banners head south to defend the Riverlands and hopefully rescue Ned. I'm sorry, we tried but we cannot lie, we hate this guy. Balon Greyjoy would twice take the Crown of Salt & Rock. Both times would end horrendously for himself and his people. We examine just how shortsighted and idiotic his attempts to take the crown were. Also, we examine the insidious nature of his entire ideology.  --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week!   In this episode, everything goes exactly according to plan for our new protagonist, Theon “The Ladies Love Me” Greyjoy.    This week, we:   - Talk about our favorite to least favorite Greyjoys   - Emmett analyzes how Theon came into being as a POV character and why his character beats far outshine his actual plot beats.   - Analyze Theon in how he constructs his identity around Ironborn lore he doesn't have a personal connection to and how awful this manifests itself in his treatment of the captain's daughter.   - Muse on the worldbuilding George puts into the Ironborn culture, and how these sparse, bleak lands speak volumes on GRRM's opinion of them and their culture.   - Pour one out for Balon Greyjoy who has a sad, and that sad is going to result in a disastrous war which will give the Ironborn nothing   - Is the Captain's Daughter pregnant by Theon? We discuss!   Next week, ACOK Daenerys I where we finally check in with the Mother of Dragons and her tiny band of followers wandering the desert. No religious imagery there whatsoever. Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter (though not in this case) podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week!   In this episode, Good King Robb makes his peace with the Lannisters, and all is well in Westeros forevermore.   This week, we:   - Discuss our favorite and least favorite themes in ASOIAF   - Praise the Young Wolf, our shining son and the best of the clashing kings (in this book, anyway)   - Dig into the possibilities and impossibilities of Robb's peace deal   - Analyze Catelyn's strengths and weaknesses as a political observer    - Argue that while Robb sending Theon to Balon Greyjoy was a mistake, it wasn't a major one   Next week, we return to King's Landing to bear witness as Tyrion fires and exiles Janos Slynt. And we’ll be joined by a new guest: our very own High Lord Clint Esq, one of the finest legal minds in the fandom!   Steven's blog: https://racefortheironthrone.wordpress.com/   Steven's tumblr: https://racefortheironthrone.tumblr.com/   Steven's patreon: https://www.patreon.com/stevenattewell/overview   Steven's twitter: https://twitter.com/StevenAttewell   Our patreon: www.patreon.com/NotACastASOIAF   Our twitter: twitter.com/NotACastASOIAF   Our facebook: www.facebook.com/groups/289889118235797/   Our youtube page: www.youtube.com/channel/UCmmDfPdG…iew_as=subscriber   Emmett's twitter: twitter.com/PoorQuentyn   Jeff's twitter: twitter.com/BryndenBFish

"The North Remembers" continues with the two eldest remaining Stark men (not counting the AWOL Benjen). Jon and the Night's Watch have arrived at Craster's Keep, and it turns out that dude is a real incestuous shithead! You hate to see it. He gets a tough lesson from Jeor Mormont about why they're working with such a detestable dude, but it leaves us plenty of room to critique. Further south, Robb and his Northern army are deciding their next best course of action. He sends the Lannister cousin Alton back to King's Landing to give Joffrey & Cersei his terms, which are understandably steep. Then, much to Catelyn's chagrin, he listens to Theon's suggestion of sending him to try to align with his father, Balon Greyjoy. This will not end well. There are some great nuggets in here about Robb and Jon (to a lesser extent) asserting themselves in leadership roles. Tune in. iTunes link Google Play link

In Game of Thrones, the people of the Iron Islands believe they have been entitled by God to steal and seize whatever they like. Women, land, possessions, even the rightful kingdom of one’s own brother--all of this is capriciously taken by the ironborn if they think they’d like to have it. "I take what is mine. I pay the iron price,” Balon Greyjoy says. It’s a tradition that the Roman empire, even at its most aggressive and belligerent, never fully embraced. Yet there is something or someone who actually does lives by the iron law and always has: Fortune. Which is why Seneca and Marcus and every Stoic lived with profound respect for her power and dominance. It doesn’t matter who you are, how rich you are, how big your army is, how pious you have been in your life. Fortune can and will come take it from you. The pages of Seneca’s writings are not only filled with stories of powerful people who were attacked by Fortune paying the iron price for their most prized possessions; his own life follows the same storyline. He was exiled, he lost loved ones, his reputation was destroyed, and in the end, his breath itself was taken without recompense. Epictetus too had his freedom taken this way, even partly giving up his ability to walk to a slave owner who paid nothing in return for this deprivation. We measly humans are not mythical characters in Game of Thrones, but we are nonetheless subjected to those wicked economics. We are what’s paid. Never forget this. Never forget, as Seneca said and needed to remember himself, Fortune’s habit of doing what she pleases, acting as capriciously as she wishes, and how little she cares for our feelings in regards to it. Because it will happen. Oh and, now and forever, it’s important to remember: Premeditatio Malorum

There’s lots of juicy material to analyze this episode as Theon betrays Robb amidst his constant identity crisis, we meet two strong women Brienne and Margaery, and rejoice at the respect that the series offers towards strong female characters. We remark on how Balon Greyjoy is a progressive and regressive as a leader, as he puts Yara in a position of power and orders his forces to reave and pillage. We see how Arya learned to recite her list of names, and say farewell to fan favorite Yoren, who goes out in mega badass style. Tronspelet – the great rewatch om om hämnd och politik i ”Game of thrones”. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

In this weeks episode of Game of Thrones, entitled "Home", we finally get to see what Bran has been up to. Just like Bran, we were very excited to see life in Winterfell from the past, and wanted to stay longer as well. His sister Sansa is safe with Brienne, but will she stay safe during and after her travels to Castle Black? Theon decides to leave her in the safety of Brienne and go back home, but where is home to Theon? We had a few fallen Lords this week, with one being Balon Greyjoy, by his own brother, and the other being Roose Bolton, by his own bastard. Is Ramsey over his head? Are his days numbered? We can only hope so. The most surprising part of the night in addition to Tyrion being a dragon whisperer,  was Jon Snow's epic return. We cant wait to see what he has to say to his brothers. We would love to hear your feedback on the next episode. Be sure to hit us up- watchthethrone@theverdictsin.com Thank you for listening!

Season 6 Episode 2 continues with the fast pace that episode one introduced and, in true Game of Thrones fashion, incites more questions than it answers, although it answers some pretty big ones. Julian and Dan sit down for a full breakdown of the events, their potential outcomes, and some wild speculation over where these story lines might take us next. Bran dreams of his home, while Cersei is held prisoner in her own, the loyalist's hold their ground at Castle Black, Tyrion braves the dragonpit, Ramsay assumes power in the North, Sansa and Theon part ways, Balon Greyjoy is surprised by a rude homecoming, and the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch comes home at last.
