July 14, 1994. Rochester, Pennsylvania. After leaving her home, 14-year old Sarah Boehm goes missing and a cryptic letter is soon found inside her bedroom. Even though Sarah supposedly wrote about being in a relationship with an abusive man and expressed a desire to run away, the authorities question the legitimacy of the letter and wonder if it may have been intended to mislead the investigation. Over three months later, a murdered Jane Doe is found 50 miles away in the Berlin Lake Wildlife Area in Ohio and in 2003, the victim is positively identified as Sarah. It turns out that the body of another murdered girl, 17-year old Kathryn Menendez, was found in the same wildlife area one month after Sarah originally went missing. Even though Kathryn lived only a few miles away and there is no apparent connection between the two victims, investigators explore the possibility that they were both killed by the same perpetrator. This week's episode of “The Trail Went Cold” covers the murders of two teenage girls which have gone unsolved for 30 years and we will also briefly discuss the murder of 16-year old Anna Marie Callahan, which took place in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania in October 1995. Why did Penn State NFL draft prospects Adisa Isaac and Kalen King stand out at the Senior Bowl for good and bad reasons? Does it help Penn State that Bill O'Brien appears poised to leave his Ohio State OC job to take the coaching job at Boston College? What should we make of the basketball team's road wins at Indiana and Rutgers, with Ace Baldwin Jr. playing well in the absence of Kanye Clary? And can Makenna Marisa and the Lady Lions give their resurgent season a huge boost with an upset of Caitlin Clark and Iowa?

Penn State recruiting is still in a dead period, so it's a great time to look ahead to the Class of 2024. So that's what happens on the Friday edition of the BWI Daily. Host Thomas Frank Carr and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder begin the initial foray into the sophomores, standing out and getting offers from Penn State. They get to that after discussing the news about the Class of 2023 that dropped on Thursday. Penn State commit Jven Williams earned a fifth star from On3, so T-Frank and Snyder discuss the implications for Penn State's 2023 cycle to have a five-star player. It matters for several reseasons that Snyder explains. Could it attract another high-quality offensive lineman? Snyder doesn't think that's the case but does point to other areas in the class it might affect. After that, they start in on quarterbacks for the Class of 2024. Again, Snyder gives the blanket statement that it's early for every position, but he's identified three players Penn state is interested in pursuing. The top player in the nation is North Carolina native Jaydn Davis, but Penn State might have a realistic shot with a different Jayden. Jayden Bradford from South Carolina is an intriguing prospect, Snyder explains. The running back position has high-level offers in Florida, including IMG Academy's Stacy Gage. Still, athlete Quinton Martin from Belle Vernon is possibly the highest priority player in the class. From there, the receiver is an extensive list for Snyder, but not a very clear one at the moment, just like tight end. They hit the offensive line next, with a committed player in Erie native Cooper Cousins. Who else could join Cousins? Jordan Seaton and Peter Jones are two names that come to mind in another very long list. On the other side of the ball, it's another deep class at the defensive end position. So, who are the players that stand out? T-Frank is high on 6-6 Dominic Nichols, while Snyder brings up two other regional players with a high profile inside the Lasch building. Defensive tackle is another deep list with some talent but more questions. Richard James Jr and Jahsear Whittington need to grow some but are intriguing prospects at 6-0 tall. According to T-Frank and Snyder, linebacker Anthony Specca is the highlight of the linebacker group and possibly one of the best players in the state. So what would hold him back? Snyder's information makes him want to see more from Specca this upcoming season. Finally, the defensive backs are stocked with talent in the region this year. But that talent is heading south to IMG. Regional corner prospects Desmond Ricks and Ellis Robinson are heading south for their high school careers. That makes it much harder for Penn State to stay in contact and get an early foothold with them. Snyder then goes through the rest of the corners that are staying local and then checks out the safeties to finish the show. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: http://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Learn more about your ad choices. Week 5 was pretty interesting to say the least. Rodney Gallagher vs. Devin Whitlock was pretty interesting due to the fact they are some of the best football players in the WPIAL, but Belle Vernon was still able to smack Laurel Highlands by a score of 56-14. Lamont Payne scored three touchdowns to help Chartiers Valley beat Blackhawk while Central Catholic and Mt. Lebanon both dominated their opponents. Nijhay Burt also had another 5 rushing TD game on Friday against Ligonier Valley in a 40-0 Steel Valley win. In 1A, Rochester took care of business by beating OLSH 34-7 on Saturday afternoon. Hey there friends! Welcome to another addition of Flashback Fridays! Tonight is the fifth official edition of this particular format. I hope you all are doing well gearing up for the holiday weekend. Tonight, I wanted to highlight a record from 2004. Last week we highlighted Gob's "Foot in Mouth Disease" from the year 2003. Tonight, I'll be highlighting a record that I don't think gets enough attention, and that record is Punchline's "Action". Punchline is an American rock band from Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, United States, that was formed in 1998. In 2003, the band signed to Fueled by Ramen Records. This was when Fall Out Boy was signed to Fueled by Ramen as well. On the February 2004 album, Action, produced by Sean O'Keefe, Punchline set itself apart in the world of pop-punk music with bright three-part harmonies, unique melodies, catchy riffs and a strong rhythm section. I remember sitting in the Punchline van as they played me the record a few weeks before it was set to be released. Chris was kind enough to give me a preview and i knew I was going to love the record. I think it's great from front to back. There's a lot of great harmonies and vocal melodies. The other thing I love about Punchline is that they're not afraid to play around with song arrangements and they take a lot of chances with their music, and where it can go. They've got a lot of great albums, but I have a soft spot for this record and The Rewind EP. I saw them open for Less Than Jake a couple of times and they were so great live. I remember watching them walk the lines after the shows, hustling, and working hard to get their music out there. And they're still doing it! They put a great record a couple of years ago called "Lion". I'm going to play a snippet of a song called "Not Afraid". So, please enjoy.
Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the United States? Mental health is something that I really think more of us need to be talking about, specifically in the small business arena. And these days, I'm also a lot more open and honest about the hard stuff about small business. In May, last year, I had a really incredible and eye-opening conversation with Laurel Harlan, a licensed therapist and cookie business owner, on the podcast. So, when Jennifer Carota, who is also a mental health professional, contacted me this year, I was particularly excited because it's very rare to find somebody who wears these two hats. Jennifer is from Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, in the United States. She is a licensed professional counselor and she owns a business called The Counseling House, which is a group practice, not far from Pittsburg. The Counseling House is dedicated to providing mental health counseling services to individuals and families in a comfortable, nurturing, and home-like environment and Jennifer has a whole bunch of people in her practice, who can help a whole lot of us out. She has professional counselors, social workers, and marriage and family therapists. The really cool thing is that Jennifer also owns a cheesecake company, called The Cheesecake Fairy. Baking is Jennifer's therapy. It's her self-care and it keeps her sane and centered, and so it accidentally became a business. The Cheesecake Fairy is largely a wholesale company that makes elegantly upscaled cheesecakes in a jar. Because Jennifer is both a mental health professional and a cheesecake fairy she is totally my people! Tune in today, to find out how to cope when things start getting a bit too much for you to deal with. Show Highlights: If you don't take care of yourself, it will begin to affect your business, because you can't separate yourself from your business, no matter how hard you try. Baking is Jennifer's therapy and it keeps her sane and centered. Jennifer explains how a licensed professional counselor became the Cheesecake Fairy. Although Jennifer went to graduate school and got her master's degree and her license, she always had a nagging feeling in her belly that there was something that she still needed to be doing. Jennifer found it stressful to be responsible for the livelihoods of four or five of her team members, as well as taking care of her clients. When things got stressful at the Counseling House Jennifer started playing around with cheesecakes again. Jennifer explains how she finds the time to run two businesses. Baking cheesecakes really created a new, healthier routine for Jennifer. Jennifer's cheesecakes are in jars and they're the perfect portion size, so it's easy not to over-indulge in them. Jennifer makes both sweet and savory cheesecakes. Jen explains how she finds balance and keeps sane amid the chaos of so many competing priorities. How slowing down and being more assertive in communicating has really helped Jennifer. How chaos expands and creates anxiety. Separating yourself from your situation can really give you a clear perspective. Jennifer gives some of the warning signs that things are starting to get out of control. Prevention is the best intervention. Getting off the treadmill and making more manageable choices. Creativity resides in that mindful space. It's really worth the effort of reaching out and checking up on people. What to do if you're just not feeling yourself. Making better choices for yourself. How much should you put on social media? Looking at your patterns can help you work out if you're just feeling a bit blue, or if you're actually suffering from depression. Paying attention to how you are really feeling. You can have conflicting emotions about the same thing at the same moment. The importance of maintaining great emotional hygiene. Choose very carefully what you focus on.
