Francesca, along with her husband Danilo and her brother Andrea, are now at the helm of their historic, family estate in Montalcino, Tenuta di Sesta. As one of the first, twelve wineries to make Brunello di Montalcino, there is a sense of gravity or seriousness in Francesca's wines, which pay more than a nod to tradition while also offering a distinctly modern sense of approachability and finesse. Similarly, Francesca herself is gracious and charming, and totally without pretense, so she can take our sometimes inconsequential questions and imbue them with real meaning, making this 10 Minutes 10 Questions a real joy to listen to.

Welcome to Episode 1682; part of our Italian wine interview series set in Bologna! Today's interview features Stefano Gabellini of Tenuta la Viola. Stevie Kim and her team traveled to the Bologna Slow Wine Fair in March 2023. There they conducted dozens of interviews with some of Italy's most inspiring producers. Join the fun every Thursday afternoon! Tune-in each Thursday as we bring you the great interviews that unfolded over the course of 3 days. More about today's winery: The Gabellini family, owner of the estate, moved from the inland Romagna to Bertinoro and in 1962 purchased the land with Sangiovese and Albana vineyards, then bush trained. Wine was an important part of the farming tradition, and serving it on the table meant sharing with guests one's love and pride in the fruits of one's labour. Even back then, it was not just refreshment, but way of uniting people, a chance to spend quality time together. “For us, wine is a tradition and passion that permanently binds us to our land. We firmly believe that the history, experience, dedication and professionalism of the people who work it all come together in the quality and character of the wines it produces, making them unique.” Connect: Website: https://www.tenutalaviola.it/index.php/en/home-2/ _______________________________ Let's keep in touch! Once nitrogen fertilizer lands on or in soil it may be at risk of loss — through leaching, volatilization, or denitrification. Management choices can minimize losses, through split-application, deep banding, or choice of product, but adding an enhanced efficiency fertilizer product can guard against loss, too. Last week we took a deep dive into Piedmont and its luscious food and wine, closing our visit at the 500 year-old Tenuta Carretta for lunch. The Tenuta has several restaurants - one a Michelin star restaurant - great accommodation, and wines. Piedmont wines are world-renowned and this remarkable wine region produces more DOCG wines than any other Italian region. It also ranks sixth among the Italian regions in annual production volume. Piedmont produces all kinds of wines from sparkling whites, to rosés to red wines. Perhaps the best known wine in the region is Barolo. As it turns out Barolo is not a kind of wine or a grape varietal, but rather the name of a town where luscious Barolo red wine is produced from the Nebbiolo grape. If your pocket won't allow you to drink Barolo wine regularly then consider some of the other wonderful wines produced using this grape.

Throughout history, artists and writers have been drawn to the Northern Italian hill town of Asolo; some say it's because it's the “city of a hundred horizons,” I think it's because it's the home of Asolo Prosecco! At one time, you might have caught a glimpse of poet Robert Browning, actress Elenora Duse, or writer Freya Stark sitting enjoying a glass of bubbly at one of the cafes in this Pearl of the Veneto; I can almost guarantee the liquid in their glass was Asolo prosecco! In this episode, I'm taking you with me to Asolo to meet a few people who are making Asolo Prosecco what it is! We‘ll begin with a masterclass led by Wine Educator and Journalist Gianpaolo Giacobbo, who will explain what Asolo prosecco DOCG is exactly. Then Ugo Zamperoni is next. He is the President of the Conzorio of Asolo Prosecco - which is the association of producers and grape growers. Then we are off to meet a few producers of Asolo Prosecco: Dennis Bordin from the Tenuta d'Asolo Progress Country & Wine House, Ermenegildo Giusti of Giusti Wine, and then we finish with Tenuta Baron's Andrea Sbrissa. I interviewed them all in situ, so alas, there is no video podcast this week, but you can find a video guide to the town of Asolo and a selection of the vineyards and historical sites you can visit when you are next in town. You can find it on my YouTube channel, youtube.com/lushlifemanual. We met at Venice Cocktail Week last year, and I am thrilled to include one of his cocktail creations. Welcome to Episode 1445 in which Marc Millon interviews Francesca Seralvo in today's episode of Wine, Food & Travel More about today's winery: The story of the Mazzolino Tenuta began about forty years ago with Francesca's grandfather Enrico when, on one of his travels, was seduced by an area that everyone already called "the Pinot Noir hill." Two of his great friends, Luigi Veronelli and Giacomo Bologna helped him to embark on this journey; they noticed right away the potential of the white, chalky lands surrounding the winery, land that the French had discovered had a vocation for Pinot Noir back in the mid-19th century, when it was still "Old Piedmont." They began from the very beginning to get the rootstocks and the best wood for aging directly from Bourgogne. In the meantime, Francesca's mother, Sandra, had thrown herself in with her usual determination, running the winery and never missed an opportunity to take Francesca with her to Mazzolino. She couldn't wait to leave because she knew she would spend whole days among the vineyards, the roses in the garden, the animals in the yard, including the ducks, chickens, donkeys and horses. In 2015 Francesca began to write a new history for the Tenuta implementing it with all the teachings she received from her grandfather and enriching it with innovation and creativity. The desire to learn and her tenacity were decisive. Welcome to Episode 1425 in which Marc Millon interviews Pepe Schib in today's episode of Wine, Food & Travel More about today's guest: Pepe has lived in Italy for 20 years now. His origins are Swiss and Spanish, and he's spent most of his life traveling the world. Pepe is fluent in five languages and has a PhD in Marine Biology, but his real passion has always been tied to the world of Italian wines. While living in Zurich and attending college, he started working with the Swiss group, Bindella – the first importer of Sassicaia in the world. Pepe then moved to Montalcino as an Export Manager and became, in a short time, CEO of Argiano, one of the historical Brunello producers. He also has worked for Jacopo Biondi Santi, heir of the iconic Brunello brand, and Guido Folonari - of the Ruffino dynasty. Before coming to Jackson Family Wines, Pepe was the Export Director of Philarmonica (JFW's distributor in Italy). For the last five years, he has worked for Jackson Family Wines, where his background and expertise in Italian wine has landed him the role of Global Brand Ambassador for the wonderful Italian estate, Tenuta di Arceno. Adam, Joanna, and Zach discuss the convergence of beer, wine, spirits, and seltzer towards a flavor-forward model for drinks, where the alcohol source is secondary to the flavor on the label. What's driving this trend, why are the big drinks companies leaning into it, and what does it mean for drinkers? Emilio Tenuta is senior vice president of Corporate Sustainability and chief sustainability officer for Ecolab. For the past 11 years, he has led Ecolab's strategic sustainability journey and is actively involved in advancing global sustainability practices, with a significant focus on water stewardship and climate action. In recent years, he's become a leader in environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices and reporting. Partnering with investor relations and Ecolab's Chief Executive Officer, Tenuta has advanced Ecolab's reputation as an ESG leading company. He is chair of the board of directors of the World Environment Center, a global non-profit, non-advocacy organization. Emilio is also on the leadership council of the Corporate Eco Forum. Emilio Joins Sustainable Nation to Discuss: Prioritizing sustainability work between customers and internal operations Ecolab establishing themselves as a corporate leader in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, CDP, and in other rankings Water and climate; the Ecolab Water for Climate strategy and The Water Resilience Coalition Closing the ‘say-do' sustainability gap Advice and recommendations for sustainability professionals Emilio's Final Five Questions Responses: What is one piece of advice you would give other sustainability professionals that might help them in their careers? If you really want to make a difference from a sustainability impact, work in the private sector. I believe there is this myth that the only place people can make a difference is by working for an environmental nonprofit. I think today in our discussion we've proven that Ecolab is living proof that more and more companies can deliver a positive impact in the world while driving profitable growth and helping communities thrive. What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability? The rise of ESG over the last five years. I'm most excited about the tremendous investment in sustainability, climate and water by the capital markets and investors to help the world decarbonize. I think mobilizing finance is a huge catalyst to driving the change we need to see in the world. What is one book you would recommend sustainability professionals read? I'm a big fan of Thomas Friedman, the author of The World is Flat. His latest book is really good called Thank You For Being Late. It's an interesting perspective on the convergence of technology, climate, and geopolitical challenges facing the world; something that is obviously very relevant today. What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work? I'm a big fan of The World Resources Institute, which is a think tank out of Washington DC. I'm also a big fan of CDP, the Carbon Disclosure Project and the Water Resilience Coalition. After two and a half/three years now, there are a plethora of resources available if you go to the Water Resilience Coalition website that support not only the actions we need to take for a water constrained world, but also driving climate resilience. Where can people go to learn more about you and the work being done at Ecolab? Ecolab.com. It's a tremendous resource and I really commend our global communications team and our digital enablement team. They've done a great job of providing some tremendous resources there. I would encourage folks to follow me on LinkedIn. I'm very passionate about sharing the incredible things going on in the world not only with Ecolab, but with all of our partners, and then Twitter as well. Then I'll shout out to a publicly available tool called the Smartwater Navigator, which is available on smartwaternavigator.com, which is another great place to really learn more about the work that we're doing.

Sip Sip Hooray! Podcast is in Brazil! The Marys were invited by ApexBrasil to be part of the first American wine journalists to formally tour Brazil's major wine region in southern Brazil. On our visit to Tenuta Foppa & Ambrosi, we were charmed by Lucas Foppa and Ricardo Ambrosi, two high school friends who met in winemaking classes. Yes, that's right - in Brazil you can study wine (but you have to spit) in high school!. These best buddies decided to work together pursuing a life in wine. There's a Napa Valley connection to their story. You'll just have to tune in to find out! Plus we have exciting news on their new American wine project and the import front to share! Grab a glass of wine - preferably Brazilian (look for sparkling wines!) and get to know Lucas and his winery, and how he and Ricardo are carrying forward tradition with a modern spin.
