This week, we're joined by Simon Lappin, who shares incredible stories from carrying a crossbar across town just to train, to reaching Premier League glory with Norwich, and getting steamrolled by Celtic and Rangers while playing for St Mirren in Scotland. After joining Norwich in 2007, Lappin quickly fell in love with Delia Smith's Norwich, working under the likes of Peter Grant, Bryan Gunn, and Paul Lambert. He enjoyed plenty of ups and downs, including Paul Lambert taking Norwich from League 1 to the Premier League, getting ‘frozen' out of the team, and, of course, many legendary nights out with Browny (and his mum). When this episode originally aired I gave our guest Bryan Gunn the shittiest mic and thats how his sound came out. Now I can go back and remaster those episodes and release them with better sound. This one was especially great because Bryan opens up about his time in the military and it was some really great content. Later Bryan became my lead cohost. But this is his first appearance on the show so sit back and listen to us start to talk about Full Metal Jacket and then just talk about Bryan's crazy near death experiences.

The World Cup is over. The trophy goes to France and if N’Golo Kante’s sheepish grin can’t cheer you up, maybe some talk about Saints’ newest signings can. So, that’s what we have this week. I spoke with two podcast hosts this week to get their perspective on Angus Gunn and Jaanik Vestergaard. First, I spoke with Jon Punt from alongcomenorwich.com about Angus Gunn. Although Saints signed Gunn from Manchester City, he was on loan at Norwich last season and grew up a fan of the club. His father, Bryan Gunn was also a goalkeeper and manager at Norwich. We discuss Angus’ attributes, his ceiling, he motivation and more. We also check in on Harrison Reed and get Jon’s view on his loan spell at Norwich last season. Jon and the rest of the Along Come Norwich crew spoke with Angus’ father Bryan on an episode of their podcast a few months ago. In it, Bryan gave some more insight into Angus’s development and aspirations. The link is below if you are interested in giving it a listen. Secondly, I spoke with Manuel Breuer of the Vollraute Abroad Podcast. Manuel (now living in London) and his colleagues (still in Mönchengladbach) present the podcast in both German and English and focus on all things Borussia Mönchengladbach. I spoke with Manuel about Vestergaard’s time at the club, what we can expect from him and what his future might look like. I look forward to keeping in touch with Manuel over the next few weeks as our friendly with the club gets closer. So, hopefully you enjoy the episode.
