In this episode of the Diamond Effect Podcast, Maggie sits down with Jennifer Estall, Managing Partner at WSC Financial Solutions in Oakville, Ontario. Jennifer shares the real story behind building a thriving financial planning firm, including the unglamorous early days, the leadership lessons that only come with time, and the surprising truth about scaling: sometimes the fastest way forward is to cut back, prune, and realign. From being hospitalized for burnout in her 20s to rebuilding her career with stronger boundaries, Jennifer offers a grounded, honest conversation about growth that doesn't require hustle-at-all-costs.What you'll hear in this episode- How Jennifer went from hospitality consulting to financial services “by accident” and why it ended up being the right fit- The early-stage reality: cold calling for years, creating a support system, and doing what worked even when it wasn't fun- The catch-22 of hiring: needing support to grow, but needing growth to afford support and how an unexpected alliance solved it- What changes when you move from solo practice to partnership and leadership (especially as the first female partner)- The “pruning” strategy: why WSC scaled faster after splitting parts of the business off and how they made those difficult decisions- Jennifer's approach to team growth and engagement along with a realistic take on work-life harmony, motherhood, and why “balance” is more about conscious choices than perfect equalityMemorable quote: “I've learned to fear comfort more than embrace it.”Connect with Jennifer on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenniferestallslf/Visit WSC Financial Solutions (Oakville, ON) website: https://web.sunlife.ca/web/wsc-financial-solutions/And if this conversation sparked something for you, share it with a fellow business owner who's in a growth season, especially if they're feeling the pressure to do more, add more, and carry it all. Sometimes the next level starts with one simple question: What needs to be removed so the right thing can grow?
WE OBEY TO... 1. Echo God's Love (1 John 4:19; 2 John 1:6) 2. Confirm Our Confidence (Luke 6:43–45) 3. Shine the Gospel (Matthew 5:16) NEW CITY CATECHISM Q34: Since we are redeemed by grace alone, through Christ alone, must we still do good works and obey God's Word? A: Yes, because Christ, having redeemed us by his blood, also renews us by his Spirit; so that our lives may show love and gratitude to God; so that we may be assured of our faith by the fruits; and so that by our godly behavior others may be won to Christ (WCF 16.2; WCF 13.1; WLC 75; WLC 76; WSC 35; WSC 32).
JESUS IS ENOUGH 1. The Fullness of Christ (Col. 1:19-20; 2:9-10) 2. The Failure of Self-Reliance (Luke 18:14) 3. The Danger of Denial (Matthew 7:22–23) NEW CITY CATECHISM Q33. Should those who have faith in Christ seek their salvation through their own works, or anywhere else? A33. No, they should not, as everything necessary to salvation is found in Christ. To seek salvation through good works is a denial that Christ is the only Redeemer and Savior (WCF 7.3, 8.1, 8.5, 8.8, 11.1, 14.2, 16.5; WLC 70, 71; WSC 30, 33).

AFTER DEATH YOUR... 1. Soul enters Heaven or Hell (Luke 23:42-43) 2. Body rests in Bed or Prison (Daniel 12:2) 3. Future ends in Life or Exile (John 5:28–29) WESTMINSTER (SEE CHAPTERS 32-33) Q. What Happens After Death? A. At death, those united to Christ enter Heaven while their bodies rest as in a bed; but the wicked enter Hell while their bodies are held as in a prison. At the resurrection, the redeemed will be made perfectly whole to enjoy God forever, while the lost will be cast out from His presence into eternal exile (WCF 32.1; 33.1–2; WLC 86; 89; 90; WSC 37; 38).

ELECTION ANCHORS OUR HOPE IN... 1. God's Unconditional Love (Deut. 7:6–8) 2. God's Irresistible Grace (John 6:37–44) 3. God's Unstoppable Purpose (Rom. 8:28–30) NEW CITY CATECHISM Q27. Are all people, just as they were lost through Adam, saved through Christ? A27. No, only those who are elected by God and united to Christ by faith. Nevertheless, God in his mercy demonstrates common grace even to those who are not elect, by restraining sin and enabling works of culture for the common good (WCF 3.3–7; 7.3; 8.8; 10.1, 4; 11.4; WSC 20, 21; WLC 13, 59, 60, 61, 68).
THE DEATH OF CHRIST 1. Reverses the Curse (Rom. 8:20–22) 2. Redeems the Creation (Col. 1:18–20) 3. Renews the Cosmos (Rev. 21:1–5) Questions 26 of the New City Catechism Q. What else does Christ's death redeem? A: Christ's death is the beginning of the redemption and renewal of every part of fallen creation, as he powerfully directs all things for his own glory and creation's good (WCF 8.8; WCF 33.1; WLC 54; WSC 28; WSC 38).

After two weeks of not being able to meet because of the snow, we are so excited to be back! And today is a big day at WSC, because we are entering into a yearlong sermon series on spiritual disciplines called, "Practice," where we'll explore one spiritual discipline each month—starting with prayer.Brock kicks off the series and invites us into a transformative year of spiritual formation with a powerful word, challenging us to move beyond passive church attendance into active discipleship. At its heart lies a crucial distinction: while nothing we do can earn our salvation—that comes through Christ alone—there is much we can do to grow as Christians. The sermon draws from Philippians 4:9, where Paul urges us to practice what we've learned, and introduces a year-long journey through spiritual disciplines like prayer, fasting, confession, and worship. What makes this particularly compelling is the honest acknowledgment that many of us feel under-discipled—we have passion and hunger for God but lack direction on where to channel that energy. The challenge is beautifully simple yet profound: spend 15 minutes daily in silence with God, your Bible, and an open heart. Not to earn favor, but to hear His voice. This isn't about religious performance or becoming self-righteous; it's about faith expressing itself through love. We're called to move from information to transformation, recognizing that our motives matter as much as our methods. The ultimate goal isn't to become better at looking spiritual, but to become more loving, more Christ-like, and more attuned to the Father's voice.
ONLY GOD CAN...1. Suffer Effectively (John 10:17-18)2. Bear Wrath Sufficiently (1 John 4:10)3. Conquer Death Decisively (Rev. 1:17-18) New City CatechismQ23: Why must the Redeemer be truly God?A: That because of his divine nature his obedience and suffering would be perfect and effective; and also that he would be able to bear the righteous anger of God against sin and yet overcome death (WCF 8.2, 8.3, 8.4, 8.5; WLC 38, 40, 52; WSC 22).

JESUS CHRIST, IN HIS HUMANITY 1. Obeyed for You (Romans 5:18–19) 2. Suffered for You (Hebrews 2:14, 17) 3. Sympathizes with You (Hebrews 4:15) NEW CITY CATECHISM Q22: Why must the Redeemer be truly human? A: That in human nature he might on our behalf perfectly obey the whole law and suffer the punishment for human sin; and also that he might sympathize with our weaknesses (WCF 8.2, 8.4; WLC 40; WSC 21–22).

YES, OUR REDEEMER1. Satisfies God's Justice (Romans 3:25-26)2. Delivers Us From Sin (Colossians 1:13–14)3. Reconciles Us to God (2 Corinthians 5:18-20) Question: Is there any way to escape punishment and be brought back into God's favor?Answer: Yes, to satisfy his justice, God himself, out of mere mercy, reconciles us to himself and delivers us from sin and from the punishment for sin, by a Redeemer (WCF 7.3; 8.1, 8.5; WSC 20–21, 25; WLC 30, 38, 71).

Question 18: Will God allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished? Answer: No, God is righteously angry with our sins and will punish them both in this life and in the life to come (WCF 5.5–6; 6.6; 33.1–2; WSC 19; 84–85; WLC 28–29; 152).
Biggest Fail of the week is NYC falling!! Clay Travis, heard daily on 94.3 WSC, joins me from the big apple on election day, to talk about his explosive new book Balls, that explains one of the biggest political shifts of our time: how Donald Trump turned the culture wars into a winning strategy with male voters. In Balls, Clay breaks down how Trump used the “woke wars” in sports—from Colin Kaepernick's kneeling to men in women's sports, from Bud Light's collapse to ESPN's identity crisis—to connect with men who felt abandoned by Democrats. And when Trump raised his fist after surviving an assassination attempt, those same men saw what they admired most: a fighter.-Powered by Disaster Plus

APOSTLES CREED STUDY #6September 14, 2025I believe in God the Father Almighty,Maker of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary.He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead.He ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.KEY THEMES:1.INITIAL THOUGHTSa. b. c. Look at this section through the lens of apologetics.Unbeliever's Q: “How could a loving God send anyone to hell?”When we recognize our sin, the real question is: “How can a just, righteous, and holy God let sinful people into heaven?”d. The Person of Jesus Christ… His title, authority, divinity, andhumanity. We have examined his “resume” as Savior.e. He also experienced real suffering (passion). This section of theCreed focuses on what we call “Christ's ministry of humiliation.”f. WSC 27: Wherein did Christ's humiliation consist? “Christ'sg. humiliation consisted in his being born, and that in a lowcondition, made under the law, undergoing the miseries of thislife, the wrath of God, and the cursed death of the cross; in beingburied, and continuing under the power of death for a time.”For a full account of Jesus Christ's humiliation, read: Matthew 272.SUFFERED UNDER PONTIUS PILATEa. A jarring change of tone! From glory to suffering.b. What about His years of teaching? The Creed's focus is on theATONING work of Jesus Christ, not all his life.c. This section of the Creed answers the question: “Why was Jesusconceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary?” Tosuffer and die in our place! (The Passion of Christ)d. Why is Pilate mentioned?i. This is real history! (not a saga or parable or illustration)ii. Pilate was the “Persona Publica” – Public Office. John 19:53.CRUCIFIEDa. Crucifixion was the most agonizing and humiliating form ofexecution. It was for outcasts and the worst of criminals.b. Physical and spiritual suffering… “My God, My God, why haveyou forsaken me?” (Matt. 27:46)c.Deuteronomy 21:23, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree.”d. The Covenantal fulfillment of Christ's crucifixion. Isaiah 53.4.DIEDa. Death is required for atonement. Christ couldn't just shed bloodto atone for humanity's sins. He had to die.b. Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death…” Jesus paid it all.c. d. Hebrews 2:14-15 – Jesus defeats Satan's curse of death.2 Corinthians 5:14-15 – Jesus' death satisfied the sins of all.e. Christ understands death, which is our final and greatest comfort.5.BURIEDa. Burial confirms the reality of Jesus' death. He had a resurrection, not a resuscitation.b. His exaltation begins earlier with Jesus' words, “It is finished.”c.Joseph of Arimathea: Jesus' body is treated with great care, wrapped in spices and linens. Isaiah 53:9d.
