Your voice should be heard. I've started to notice a trend... so many coaching clients come to me to find and share their voice into the world for impact. How that manifests is unique to every client it might mean starting a podcast, speaking on stage, starting a business or stepping into that leadership position you deserve to own. Now what I find interesting is that the reason these women often struggle to find their voice and speak their truth is fear. Fear of judgement and what others will think. This podcast is about stepping into vulnerability and owning your voice and in the process your truth and your potential. She is a mental health expert by experience, having achieved personal recovery and well-being through her journey with bipolar disorder. Through her work with Calm Collective, she has consulted for and created global mental health programs for brands like Spotify, The Body Shop, and Standard Chartered. She has been featured in various publications and was named a Gen.T Honouree in 2021. Sabrina has worked in the software and marketing industries and was a professional DJ in top nightlife establishments. "I have bipolar disorder and I've gone through struggles before I got diagnosed. I got arrested for attempting suicide and lost two friends to suicide. Surviving that horrible, challenging period of my life helped me learn how to manage and thrive with it. My personal journey has given me a lot of learnings and insights around mental health, from the stigma that we face to just a lot of things that we don't know about. It gave me that motivation to share what I've learned with more people so they can seek mental health support before it's too late." - Sabrina Ooi "Bipolar disorder is basically manic depression. Depression is unipolar. Bipolar means there's depression, but there's also mania. Mania is quite interesting because you can feel energetic and sociable when you're in that state. For me, mania can show itself on nights when I don't get any sleep. I would be very excited and start 10 or 20 new projects, but would probably not finish any of them. I would be the life of the party, but at the same time, I can be very irritable and quick to annoy people." - Sabrina Ooi Read the transcript here at: www.bravesea.com/blog/sabrina-ooi WhatsApp Daily Insight: https://chat.whatsapp.com/CeL3ywi7yOWFd8HTo6yzde Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4TnqkaWpTT181lMA8xNu0T Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@JeremyAu/featured Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/sg/podcast/brave-southeast-asia-tech-singapore-indonesia-vietnam/id1506890464 Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jeremyau?lang=en Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeremyauz/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeremyau Visit our community at: www.bravesea.com

It's the battle between making the most of being halfway around the world in paradise and just allowing the day to unfold without the distraction of back home. I feel this jungle oasis calling me to connect with nature, and yet my phone calls me also. It's saying if you don't take me, you might miss capturing that moment. It's that inner conflict between what we feel we should do and what our body is telling us we need - disconnection from distraction and reconnection to what is innately human. These are all the reasons why this week's podcast if focused on how surrendering to nature and injecting more of it into your life in small simple ways provides a basis not only for a greater sense of calm but it equally has shown to recharge your attention muscle! I felt compelled to create this podcast because my research with over one hundred beautiful working women this year has exposed a consistent theme when it comes to feeling like you're existing rather than living. This podcast episode is for anyone who feels like they're letting everyone down and like nobodies getting the best of them. If that sounds like you let's go deeper. It's likely you long for a greater sense of ease, calm and groundedness in the average day but at the moment you feel relentless exhaustion like you're operating in robot mode, unable to unplug the status quo and disrupt a lifestyle that not only isn't serving you it's making you feel toxic inside and out. If you're listening to this and saying OMG I feel like she's in my head then let's have a conversation about what's going on inside your head and how you can create a circuit breaker to disrupt the status quo and kick start resetting your foundations towards a little more energy, presence and calm in each day. Resources I'm relaunching my intimate group program for busy working women on the verge of burnout who want to go from feeling frazzled and guilt-ridden to present and calm. Thank you, first and foremost, for all of the love and support for our last episode where I shared the story of Jonathan and my miscarriage of our first baby. It's been... difficult, to say the least, but you have all played such a beautiful role in softening the ridges for us as we heal. I'm working on playing catch up with you here, but first and foremost I felt it was important to shed some light on why I chose to let The Calm Collective go, the Universal sign that I did in fact do the right thing, and what it means for what's to come both within the Podcast space and over on the intimate Newsletter. This is a quicker listen, but I hope it helps unravel some of the unknowns ("Where the heck did the website go?", "Are you still teaching courses?", What can we expect?") I was so nervous so sit down and record this, but know deep down that it's the right thing to do. For womenkind and couples out there who have endured miscarriage, and for the health of my own soul. The minute I hit "publish" I had this intense breath of release - a thousand pounds off of my shoulders. This isn't a "bad" secret to keep. It's nothing to be ashamed of; no fault of our own. It's just sad, and it's true, and it's real. I know this is a lofty way to come back after a long, long hiatus of recording. And while I have much that I want to fill you in on (I got engaged, married, released The Calm Collective and built Rooted, etc), when tragedy hits, it takes precedence. I couldn't imagine coming back and talking about all of the aforementioned things without mentioning what's right on top of my heart - when I'm going through heartbreak. It's never been who I am; being able to pretend like things are okay when they're just, not. So, I know we're coming in hot with Episode 115, but my hope is that we'll be able to meet each other where we're at. Me, here in heartbreak and healing, you, wherever you might be in life right now. I hope it brings us closer and feeling even more connected than before. I hope that this conversation normalizes miscarriage, grief, healing, and the like. Thank you for being here - for showing me grace as I stumble a bit through this episode, and for giving me the space to come back when it felt right to do so. WARNING: This episode may have some trigger points as we talk about things like depression, suicide and death. Sabrina Ooi is the co-founder and CEO of Calm Collective Asia - a community that was established during Singapore's first circuit breaker to talk about all things mental health in Asia.To understand how Sabrina ended up establishing Calm Collective Asia, it's necessary to dive into her story. She shares why she felt like an imposter while studying at Raffles Girls' School (Singapore's top school), how she started DJing for the likes of Dior & Rolls Royce, getting through debilitating depressive episodes since the age of 11, how she was initially misdiagnosed as being depressive only to discover that she was bipolar, being “arrested” for attempting to end her life and her journey to recovery. This is STIMY's first mental health episode and I felt that Sabrina's story is so incredibly powerful and important. It is time to destigmatise discussions around mental health and I hope that this episode contributes a little to that ongoing conversation, particularly in Asia.  Highlights:3:41 Being told by her mum to be “average”5:23 Having her first depressive episode at age 1112:33 How her DJ career began 17:35 Triggers for her depressive episodes21:59 Going for therapy23:55 Not going for private practice25:05 Having suicidal thoughts27:36 Taking antidepressants 29:52 Depression v Bipolar31:49 Survive, Live and Thrive35:11 Journey to recovery36:52 “How I went from Leaving to Living”42:36 Starting Calm Collective Asia47:24 The vision51:13 Symptoms to look out for52:31 How to find the right therapist

Hi everyone! Wow, I'm coming out of podcast retirement after only 2 months. While I initially closed my podcast, fully thinking I'd never return, a few shifts happened in my life that inspired me to get back in the game. Which, of course, I go over in the episode.   That includes gushing about connecting with Cassandra from The Rooted podcast (formerly The Calm Collective) and how our 1:1 session helped me come back to the mic. (https://www.thecalmcollective.com/)   I'll also catch you up on the exciting happenings in my life, such as getting married, moving to Buffalo, and the refreshing realizations I've had in my business.    Anyway, it's good to be back. I have no regrets that I stepped away. But it's good to return with more openness, freedom, and fewer expectations!    Want to journey together? For those who have been following along with The Calm Collective for some time, you know how much I love breaking down taboo subjects and diving head first into human experiences that are just downright relatable. This is what forms community, this is what has us feeling less alone, more understood, more seen. That's always been my mission from the very beginning - starting with my grieving experience (still very much a core part of my message), and blossoming into so much more - anxiety, relationships, boundaries, intentional living. Lauren Ellman comes on to join me for Episode 91 of the podcast and to say that I could have talked to her for hours is the understatement of the century. This human spares no personal part of herself, which is what makes her so relatable, so lovable. We talk candidly (like, super candidly) about our experiences with anxiety, how it forms and shows itself to us, how Lauren balances motherhood and her relationship with severe anxiety, our tools for soothing and healing our wounds, and so much more. You don't want to miss this one. And by all means, if you know or feel like someone in your orbit would benefit from her wisdom, do them the honor of forwarding this email or sharing it on your Instagram so other's can benefit.
