In this conversation, Dr. Sam Sigoloff and Tom Haviland discuss alarming findings from a series of surveys conducted among embalmers regarding the presence of unusual blood clots in corpses. The surveys reveal a significant increase in the observation of white fibrous clots and microclotting since the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines. Haviland shares insights from the latest survey conducted in 2024, highlighting the psychological barriers embalmers face in discussing these findings publicly. The conversation also touches on the implications of these observations for public health and the responsibilities of professionals in the funeral industry. In this conversation, Dr. Sam Sigoloff and USAF Major Tom Haviland discuss the ethical responsibilities of embalmers in reporting unusual phenomena observed in corpses, particularly related to clotting issues post-COVID vaccination. They explore the political divides surrounding vaccine perspectives, share personal stories regarding vaccine status, and highlight the alarming increase in clotting phenomena observed by embalmers. The discussion also touches on the limitations of autopsies, financial incentives affecting death reporting, and concerns over the safety of mRNA technology. The conversation concludes with a focus on the impact of vaccines on women's health and the need for more transparency and investigation in the medical community.lf you like my t-shirt please get one here: XL https://www.ebay.com/itm/166498979030?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=p4ex0znwsqu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=p4ex0znwsqu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPYLarge https://www.ebay.com/itm/166498976051?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=p4ex0znwsqu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=p4ex0znwsqu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPYMedium https://www.ebay.com/itm/166498969796?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=p4ex0znwsqu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=p4ex0znwsqu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPYSmall https://www.ebay.com/itm/166498972939?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=p4ex0znwsqu&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=p4ex0znwsqu&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPYIf you would like to purchase better than grass fed and grass finished beef that will never get mRNA injections, never get growth hormones and never get antibiotics check out mycleanbeef.com/afterhoursAs always please like, share and follow. In a sea of dis- and misinformation, what's the most important thing dietitians can do to help consumers? Milton Stokes, Senior Director of Food and Nutrition at the International Food Information Council (IFIC), has some ideas to help RDNs cut through the congestion of information swirling around about food and nutrition. “Sometimes when we provide more information, we make the problem worse. Let's build connections based on values, especially when dealing with contentious topics,” says Stokes, whose career has been at the intersection of food, agriculture, and nutrition for the last 10 years working on some of the most urgent issues facing people and planet–issues like food and nutrition security as well as sustainability. Stokes suggests that the profession could benefit from more active listening in the social media landscape. Touching on IFIC's 2024 Food and Health Survey, Stokes shares that taste and price are the most important factors in consumer food choice. Dietitians can help consumers make more nutritious decisions by utilizing a more positive approach, emphasizing the enjoyment of food, its flavor, and the overall experience. Stokes also emphasizes the importance of creating connections between dietitians and farmers, and specifically points to Jenny Schmidt (guest on Food Bullying Podcast Episode 102) as a resource for RDs. He also shares that dietitians can benefit greatly from partnerships with farmers as opposed to assuming expertise in various areas of agriculture. Connect with IFIC on Instagram, on X, and LinkedIn.
In food purchase priorities, somethings change a lot and some barely change at all. When it comes to food purchases the top considerations are still taste, price, health and convenience. What's new and rising on the list is "Environmental Sustainability", now an important consideration for about 30% of the population. These findings are in the Annual Food & Health Survey of IFIC the Internaional Food Information Council. Kris Solid, RD is the Research Senior Director for IFIC. To fill gaps in consumer knowledge about food it's important to identifiy current perceptions, beliefs and behavious. www.foodinsight.org
For the fourth time, I have had the honor of speaking with Gina Passarella about ALM's Mental Health Survey of the Legal Profession. This year, I had the opportunity to include Dan Roe, one of the industry's best business of law journalists, and Paul Hodkinson, The Editor and Chief of ALM Publications in Europe. We engaged in a broad-ranging discussion about the survey, the challenges of an intergenerational workforce, and the power of storytelling to normalize mental health issues.
Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Against a Happiness Ceiling: Replicating Killingsworth & Kahneman (2022), published by charlieh943 on May 29, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Epistemic Status: somewhat confident: I may have made coding mistakes. R code is here if you feel like checking. Introduction: In their 2022 article, Matthew Killingsworth and Daniel Kahneman looked to reconcile the results from two of their papers. Kahneman (2010) had reported that above a certain income level ($75,000 USD), extra income had no association with increases in individual happiness. Killingsworth (2021) suggested that it did. Kahneman and Killingsworth (henceforth KK) claimed they had resolved this conflict. They hypothesized correctly that: 1. There is an unhappy minority, whose unhappiness diminishes with rising income up to a threshold, then shows no further progress 2. In the happier majority, happiness continues to rise with income even in the high range of incomes 1) refers to Kahnemann's leveling off finding; 2) refers to Kllingsworth's continued log-linear finding. (More info on this discussion can be found in Spencer Greenberg's thoroughly enjoyable blog post . Spencer goes into the correlation/causation debate which I don't go into here.) Here, I reproduce these findings from KK (2022) using a different dataset - the 2012 Health Survey for England. This dataset is smaller (n= 7,179, rather than 33,391), and uses a different collection technique. The NHS's wellbeing variable was collated from 14 individual responses to a self-questionnaire, whilst the KK variable uses experience-sampling: i.e. pinging participants at random points in the day. KK regard experience sampling as the gold-standard, and whilst the NHS data had around 100,000 data points on wellbeing, the KK data had over 1.7 million experience-sampling reports. So, you might be thinking: why bother to replicate the paper with worse NHS data? The first answer is a mixture of convenient access through my uni and personal curiosity. Though, I also think this analysis had some useful insights for others too. The KK paper looked solely at hedonic wellbeing - asking participants, "how do you feel right now?". Whereas, the wellbeing scale here (WEMWBS) looks to capture hedonic and eudaimonic aspects, including questions about immediate emotional experience and life satisfaction. (More about the variable is here.[1]) Given this, taken together with other minor differences - e.g. surveys versus experience pings; UK adults, rather than US employees -I felt it would be somewhat surprising if the KK findings replicated on the NHS data. … And, they did. Summary of Findings Overall, I found similar results to Killingsworth and Kahnemann (2022) in 4 notable respects: 1. There is a linear relationship between log income and median happiness, although this relationship is small 2. For a large proportion of the population (i.e. at p=50, 70, 85), this log-linear relationship continued above a fairly high income threshold (£50,000 in 2012), and: 3. For a small minority (p=85) the slope of the log-linear graph increased slightly (although not significantly) 4. For a large minority of the population (p = 5, 10, … 35), extra income had no association with increased levels of happiness. This constitutes a small update towards the KK findings, and thus against the view that there is a 'happiness ceiling' which the happiest in society have already reached. Results Before going into the results, I want to clarify two terms here: 1. Relative Leveling Off: the slope of the happiness against (log) income plot decreases after a certain income threshold. 2. Absolute Leveling Off: the slope of the happiness against (log) income plot is indistinguishable from 0 after a certain income threshold. The 2022 paper uses an income threshold of $100,000. Accounting for historic e...
From 3rd May 2024, 2,400 people spent time surveying their local river, working together to submit 1,500 surveys for The Rivers Trust's Spring Big River Watch. River health and water quality has become an issue of increasing importance to the public, and many people and community groups want to be part of restoring rivers. 2,400 people surveyed the health of their local river in the Spring Big River Watch from The Rivers Trust The Big River Watch is a bi-annual, free citizen science activity that gathers information about river health, used in the fight to clean them up. From all corners of the UK and Ireland, members of the public recorded what they saw by the river (including wildlife, pollution, litter and water colour) as well as how they felt . Time spent in nature supports our wellbeing, so they were also encouraged to spend a few moments being present and noticing positive things while on the riverbank. Today we're launching a new data explorer so that everyone can dig into the results. The results Together, we spent over 25 days watching and surveying our rivers. 61% of surveys recorded at least one sign of pollution. Silt was the most commonly reported pollutant in 33% of all surveys, followed by livestock (15%). 112 (7.6%) of surveys reported sewage, and 110 (7.5%) reported sewage fungus. 53% of surveys reported seeing litter, from shopping trolleys to plastic cartons. 63% of Big River Watchers report that they felt their river looked healthy, and only 25% feel they were looking at an unhealthy river. But it's unlikely that they were actually healthy. In our 2024 State of Our Rivers Report, we shared that in England alone, no single stretch of river achieved good overall status, and just 15% reached good ecological status. 38% of participants were new to citizen science. 26% of surveys in the Spring Big River Watch recorded riverflies, while just 11% recorded them in the Autumn Big River Watch (September 2023). Explore the data yourself The Rivers Trust have launched an interactive Big River Watch Data Explorer, so that anyone who took part or is interested in the health of their local blue space can find out what participants recorded: https://theriverstrust.org/ big-river-watch-data-explorer This data is publicly available, so journalists, community groups and organisations including local Rivers Trusts can use the data to inform their own campaigns and river restoration work. Zoom in on the map, and you'll also see the official Water Framework Directive (WFD) ecological status of each river. This makes clear the disconnect between perceived river health and the often unseen issues, such as chemical pollution, that can be identified with further monitoring. What's next? This was the second Big River Watch. The first took place in September 2023 when the app and citizen science project was launched, and the next will begin on 5th September 2024. What is the Big River Watch? The Big River Watch is an entry level citizen science survey that anyone can take part in using a free bespoke app. We're aiming for it to be the UK and Ireland's biggest ever mass participation survey of river health. It has no training requirement and helps to raise awareness of what a healthy river looks like. The Big River Watch empowers people to develop a stronger relationship with their local river, signposting them to further activities such as volunteering with their local Rivers Trust if they like. It is repeated twice a year - once in the spring and once in the autumn. Quote from Mark Lloyd, CEO of The Rivers Trust "We know our rivers are in trouble, and we also know that the picture we currently have of their health is a blurry one. We need more information to sharpen up that image, and to better understand exactly how and where we can work to restore our vital waterways. I'd like to extend a huge 'thank you' to everyone who joined us and took part in the Spring Big River Watch, it's fantastic to see surveys being submitted from al...

Satisfaction with the EA community Reported satisfaction, from 1 (Very dissatisfied) to 10 (Very satisfied), in December 2023/January 2024 was lower than when we last measured it shortly after the FTX crisis at the end of 2022 (6.77 vs. 6.99, respectively). This is: Updates on Community Health Survey Results, published by David Moss on March 20, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Summary Satisfaction with the EA community Reported satisfaction, from 1 (Very dissatisfied) to 10 (Very satisfied), in December 2023/January 2024 was lower than when we last measured it shortly after the FTX crisis at the end of 2022 (6.77 vs. 6.99, respectively). We think it's plausible that satisfaction reached a nadir at some point later than December 2022, but may have improved since that point, while still being lower than pre-FTX. Reasons for dissatisfaction with EA: A number of factors were cited a similar number of times by respondents as Very important reasons for dissatisfaction, among those who provided a reason: Cause prioritization (22%), Leadership (20%), Justice, Equity, Inclusion and Diversity (JEID, 19%), Scandals (18%) and excessive Focus on AI / x-risk / longtermism (16%). Including mentions of Important (12%) and Slightly important (7%) factors, JEID was the most commonly mentioned factor overall. Changes in engagement over the last year 39% of respondents reported getting at least slightly less engaged, while 31% reported no change in engagement, and 29% reported increasing engagement. Concrete changes in behavior 31% of respondents reported that they had stopped referring to "EA" while still promoting EA projects or ideas, and 15% that they had temporarily stopped promoting EA. Smaller percentages reported other changes such as ceasing to engage with online EA spaces (6.8%), permanently stopping promoting EA ideas or projects (6.3%), stopping attending EA events (5.5%), stopping working on any EA projects (4.3%) and stopping donating (2.5%). Desire for more community change as a result of the FTX collapse 46% of respondents at least somewhat agreed that they would like to see the EA community change more than it already has, as a result of the FTX collapse, while 26% somewhat or strongly disagreed. Trust in EA organizations Reported trust in key EA organizations (Center for Effective Altruism, Open Philanthropy, and 80,000 Hours) were slightly lower than in our December 2022 post-FTX survey, though the change for 80,000 Hours did not reliably exclude no difference. Perceived leadership vacuum 41% of respondents at least somewhat agreed that 'EA currently has a vacuum of leadership', while 22% somewhat or strongly disagreed. As part of the EA Survey, Rethink Priorities has been tracking community health related metrics, such as satisfaction with the EA community. Since the FTX crisis in 2022, there has been considerable discussion regarding how that crisis, and other events, have impacted the EA community. In the recent aftermath of the FTX crisis, Rethink Priorities fielded a supplemental survey to assess whether and to what extent those events had affected community satisfaction and health. Analyses of the supplemental survey showed relative reductions in satisfaction following FTX, while absolute satisfaction was still generally positive. In this post, we report findings from a subsequent EA community survey, with data collected between December 11th 2023 and January 3rd 2024.[1] Community satisfaction over time There are multiple ways to assess community satisfaction over time, so as to establish possible changes following the FTX crisis and other subsequent negative events. We have 2022 data pre-FTX and shortly after FTX, as well as the recently-acquired data from 2023-2024, which also includes respondents' recalled satisfaction following FTX.[2] Satisf...

Tis the season to be jolly, and for some closing out the year, that can mean running the risk of hazardous drinking. But the most recent New Zealand Health Survey, released earlier this week, shows that fewer of us are choosing to overindulge in alcohol. The rate of hazardous drinking reported in the survey dropped to an all-time low of just 16 percent of the adult population, with a marked decrease among younger people in particular. Mark Leishman speaks to the executive director of the NZ Alcohol Beverages Council Virginia Nicholls.
New Zealanders drinking behaviour may be improving, according to new data. This year's Health Survey shows a record low 16% of the adult population reporting hazardous drinking, an almost 3% drop on the year before. NZ Alcohol Beverages Council Executive Director Virginia Nicholls told Mike Hosking that positive community support and education have definitely played a role. She says she thinks there's been a positive cultural change happening for at least the past 20 years. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Most of those who answered no don't use birth control pills now and don't plan using them in the future. This result stems from the latest Kaiser Family Foundation's Women's Health Survey of 5201 women. By the way, both the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists favor prescription-less oral contraception. As a part of the Men's Health Week Ryan is talking to Mark Sainsbury, one of the country's most experienced journalists and one of the directors and ambassadors for the Men's Health Week, about the importance of small steps to look after your physical and mental health.Men are at a disadvantage health wise from the start. A boy born today will live nearly four years less than a girl. When it comes to preventable diseases, men are in much higher risk. Worse, men are three times more likely to die by suicide. And as we all know mental health is especially important in our current times of uncertainty. That's the main purpose of the Men's Health Week that started on the 13th of June. The sole purpose at Men's Health Week is to get guys to think a little more and know a little more about their health. The aim is to encourage men to start with the small steps that can enable them to turn their health issues around. Little steps can – and will – make big differences. We just have to start.LinksMen's Health Week https://www.menshealthweek.co.nz/Men's Health Survey https://www.menshealthweek.co.nz/mens-health-survey/Where else you can find usWebsite: https://www.masterbuilder.org.nz/Elevate Platform: http://elevate.masterbuilder.org.nzInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/masterbuildernz/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/registeredmasterbuildersYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmh_9vl0pFf0zSB6N7RrVegTwitter: https://twitter.com/MasterBuilderNZ
