Alex and Richard break down offseason happenings in the Mid-American Conference, which saw lots of coach carousel turnover. * Ohio: Tim Albin to Charlotte, OC Brian Smith replacing him * Ball State: An off-the-beaten-path coach hire, bringing on a guy who most recently coached non-scholarship football in the Pioneer League * Miami: It's a Return to the MAC for QB Dequan Finn* Buffalo: Pete Lembo tries to follow up a surprisingly good opening act* Bowling Green: Has an offseason loss of a coach ever looked better than the Falcons winding up with Eddie George? * Western Michigan: Major staff turnover as Lance Taylor tries to fix it * Toledo: Jason Candle has a good roster (as usual) and spicy spring game commentary * NIU: Losing basically everything from last year's team that beat Notre Dame, and also preparing for a conference switch * Akron: A portal exodus * EMU: Ditto, but Chris Creighton is a hard man to count out * Central Michigan: Trying something different with Army's Matt Drinkall as head coach. We applaud the spirit of the hire* Kent State: Well, it's really, really badThe MAC also has some realignment coming for this season, with UMass joining back up. They're not officially Midwesterners again until July, though, so we'll discuss the Minutemen when we check in with the independents. (Ed. note! We recorded most of this episode shortly before the spring transfer portal window opened, but we made a few updates before publication on 4/23, mostly to cover the late-spring firing of Kent State's head coach.) I would say that while there's absolutely no question that we're in a crisis, there's no question about multi crisis. I'm not sure we're in the state of collapse. And I think that methodology, that vision, that understanding of the world can lead to... You were talking about it a few minutes ago, doom scrolling and just doom. I find that that can create a lot of inertia in people, a lot of hopelessness and pessimism. I have a colleague in the US, Arlene Goldbard, and she's quoting (Antonio) Gramsci and she says, ‘pessimism of the intellect, but optimism of the will' and I like that shorthand way of thinking. My conversation with artist, writer, and cultural critic Chris Creighton-Kelly on September 24th, 2024 in Sidney, British Columbia, which is on the traditional, unceded territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ People. Chris is among others things, is co-director, along with artist France Trépanier of Primary Colours – Couleurs primaires. I've condensed a long and rich conversation with Chris down to this new ‘fifteen' minute format. The season seven premiere of the Eastern Insider Podcast, hosted by Greg Steiner and Tom Helmer, sets a vibrant tone for the year ahead, blending light-hearted banter with deep dives into Eastern Michigan University's athletic programs. The episode kicks off with Helmer's amusing recount of a family trip to Disney, where an unexpectedly intense roller coaster ride led to both thrills and spills. This light-hearted start transitions smoothly into a celebration of EMU women's soccer, now under the leadership of new head coach Taylor Clarke. Clarke's arrival marks a turning point for the program, with the team already off to an impressive 3-0 start. Steiner and Helmer commend the squad's noticeable improvements in conditioning and tactics, reflecting Clarke's vision for a fast-paced, aggressive style of play. Clarke, who has cultivated a close-knit coaching staff that shares a deep personal connection, emphasizes the importance of a cohesive, family-like atmosphere. His strategy of integrating a few key transfers while maintaining the core of the existing team has paid off, as the Eagles soar into the new season with confidence and determination. The podcast then shifts focus to the highly anticipated football season opener against UMass, a future Mid-American Conference member. The hosts explore the complexities of the matchup, including UMass's rigorous "Thunderstruck drill," designed to maximize the team's speed and agility. Welcome to another episode of Y11 Audio! This is Ypsilanti's college football show and the official podcast of Ypsi11.com.Eastern Michigan returns home with its fifth game against UMass since 2014. While this isn't a MAC game, it certainly feels like it (considering UMass was in the MAC not too long ago). EMU scraped by a win at home over UMass last year (20-13) and the Minutemen look better than what it showed up with last year on offense. Sure, its starting QB is hurt, but improved nonetheless. It's round two of Chris Creighton vs. Don Brown, aka “Dr. Blitz”, and I went to a trustworthy source for great expertise on the topic of UMass football: Michael Traini from Fight Massachusetts/247sports.Y11 Audio is available via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and basically wherever else podcasts are found.Reach out to the showTwitter: @ARAlvarado13 | @YpsiElevenEmail: ypsieleven@gmail.com. Locked On Sun Devils - Daily Podcast On Arizona State Sun Devils Football & Basketball
Arizona State Sun Devils football kicks off in a little over a week! With the season so near, we turn our attention to breaking down the Sun Devils' 2022 schedule game-by-game and seeing what Arizona State football is going up against. First, host Richie Bradshaw breaks down the three nonconference games for Arizona State Sun Devils football - NAU, Oklahoma State, and Eastern Michigan. NAU is coming off a 5-6 season but will be looking to take down Arizona State after upsetting the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson last season to complete a sweep of the two major Arizona universities. Oklahoma State was THIS CLOSE to winning the Big-12 and while they do have some major replacing to do on the defensive side of the ball, an offense led by Spencer Sanders and coached by Mike Gundy will be more than a tough game for Arizona State, especially going on the road to Stillwater, Oklahoma. Eastern Michigan has enjoyed some nice success in recent years under head coach Chris Creighton, but the program will be replacing its starting quarterback from last season (Ben Bryant) after he opted to transfer to Cincinnati. How will the Arizona State Sun Devils football program hold up to start off the 2022 season with its out-of-conference games? Arizona State heads into the new season facing some big questions. Who is ready to answer? We break down the top breakout candidates for the 2022 season, plus we preview ASU's Week 3 opponent with Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton (36:52).
The annual EMU Football Spring Game returns to "The Factory" inside Rynearson Stadium, Friday, April 15 >Alex Jewell and Greg Steiner open the episode with a recap of the week that was, and set the table for the week ahead. > EMU Head Football Coach Chris Creighton joins the program to discuss spring football, the upcoming Spring Game, and so much more! > Steiner sits down with EMU women's golfer Kyleigh Dull to discuss her hunt for the MAC title.
EPISODE 50 Tonight's the national championship game for football, which means this is effectively the last episode of the 2021 season. This is our (Alex, Kaleb) time to say whatever else we feel that needs to be said about the 2021 season (MACtion, otherwise) before our brains turn into total offseason mode. What was the MACtion moment of the year? What was disappointing? Who was snubbed of the MAC Freshman of the Year award? And there are a million dollars on the table for Caleb Williams to transfer from Oklahoma to play QB for Eastern Michigan. This probably isn't the kind of game Chris Creighton wants to be played off the field, but these days you're going to have to put up with NIL business than one might want to deal with if they want to have a career in the college coaching profession. Folks, the time is officially here. It's that time of the year when the national spotlight shines on the MAC, when the entire football watching world watches the best little conference in the midwest. Midweek MACtion is back folks! Before we get to any game previews, the boys open the show this week by taking a look back at the week that was. Steve gives his performance of the week to Rocky Lombardi and the Northern Illinois passing attack, who accumulated 351 yards through the air in the Huskies thrilling 39-38 comeback win over Central Michigan. Zach was most impressed with Eastern Michigan, who used a strong performance from QB Ben Bryant to throttle Bowling Green 55-24. The Eagles now sit 5-3 (2-2 MAC), and this very well may be Chris Creighton's best squad in his time in Ypsilanti. The boys are in agreement that Bowling Green gave us the most disappointing performance of the week in the aforementioned 55-24 blowout loss to Eastern Michigan. After a strong start to the season, the Falcons have really regressed in the past three weeks. This performance against EMU was especially disheartening. The Falcons defense, which started the year very strong, but allowed 455 total yards to the Eagles. To close out the show, the boys take a look at the upcoming MAC match ups. Buffalo and Bowling Green are the sole Saturday game this week, with the other five games taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Western Michigan and Central Michigan will compete in their annual Battle for the Victory Cannon, while Miami travels to Ohio in the storied Battle of the Bricks rivalry. In what may be the most intriguing game of the midweek slate, Northern Illinois travels to northeast Ohio to take on Kent State in a match up between two MAC title game hopefuls. Next week, we'll release our episode on Monday, November 8th, as there are no MAC games on the slate next Saturday. Enjoy all the MACtion in the meantime, and we'll talk to you then! Happy Friday folks! Another week of the offseason is behind us, and we are a month away from football! Kicking off the show this week, Zach and Steve quickly breakdown the potential implications of Texas and Oklahoma's pending move to the SEC. Where is college football headed? How will the ripple effects of this move impact the MAC? It's certainly been a wild week in the college football world, and we'll all be watching to see how this potential realignment plays out. Also in the news this week, the boys take a quick look at the pre-season awards watch lists that have been released. The MAC placed four offensive lineman on the Outland Award Watch List, and six (!!) punters on the Ray Guy Award Watch List. The conference has certainly been well represented this off-season, and it's great to see some of the best athletes in the conference get some pre-season recognition. Moving into our season previews, Zach and Steve first take a look at Eastern Michigan. Chris Creighton has done a phenomenal job in his time in Ypsilanti, and this year he may just have his most talented group yet. Though they were picked fifth in the west, 21 starters return, and this offense could be one of the best in the conference. Will the defense improve enough to get the Eagles back to a bowl game? That is the million dollar question. Regardless, the boys think that the Eagles have enough talent this year to compete for a post-season spot. In the east division, we take a look at Akron.
