Veteran Business Owner Jeremy Mock of Glass City Cafe Jeremy Mock is a Marine Corps veteran and current Navy Reservist with a passion for business. After his time in the Marine Corps, Jeremy visited his hometown of Jeanette, PA and was struck by how the downtown area had deteriorated. Mary Sue Milliken is an American chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, and radio and TV personality with a focus on Latin cuisine in the United States.Milliken is a graduate of Chicago's Washburne Culinary & Hospitality Institute.After working together in Chicago and Paris, Milliken and her longtime collaborator, Susan Feniger, settled in Los Angeles where they founded the critically acclaimed City Cafe in 1981.[1] They eventually expanded to a larger space on La Brea Avenue, renaming the establishment CITY Restaurant. In 1985, they opened the Mexican restaurant Border Grill in the original City Cafe space, before moving it to Santa Monica in 1990. The restaurant later expanded to Pasadena (closed) and the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.[2] Broadening their culinary horizons, Milliken and her partner opened Ciudad in Los Angeles in 1998. Harry Bogdanos, owner of City Cafe, sat down with me talk about how they turned the restaurant around ever since they purchased it in 2006, how they weathered two hurricanes, and what it takes to have a successful restaurant. In addition, there's a fair amount of roasting back and forth.

"Coffee is like life. There's a story from green bean to espresso shot and also a great story in all of us" says New City Cafe founder John Lee. "Like those beans, sometimes we need to go through a journey of incredible heat and pressure," but on the other side can be a beautiful (and delicious) result! In early 2016, John began to dream of an avenue to continue teen engagement and further 441 Ministries’ teen program with formal job training. This dream began to manifest itself in the form of a specialty coffee shop, where at-risk neighborhood teens could not only obtain employment and work toward becoming certified baristas, but also gaining mentoring and life skills. New City Café became a reality on June 9, 2017. As a program of 441 Ministries Beechwood, New City Café furthers the overall ministry’s mission of bringing hope, healing, and holistic development to Beechwood. This is accomplished through providing jobs to young men and women in the community, training them holistically: mind, body, soul, and spirit, and through establishing a thriving café business that provides a great gathering space for the community. He then quit the law and became a standup comedian to satisfy his need to disappoint her. Al practiced law during the day and comedy at night. Getting stage time is hard for a new comic so Al would suddenly stand up in the middle of restaurants and do his act. And as he says, “I almost always got big laughs because I had everyone’s complete attention because everyone was scared that I might hurt them.” Al gradually began getting work at comedy clubs and within a year he won the $100,000 Comedy Grand Prize on television’s Star Search. Doing the Tonight Show was a childhood fantasy, so Al auditioned and became one of the last comics to appear with Johnny Carson. He went on to make six more appearances with Jay Leno and five appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman. Al was the subject of the documentary, A Standup Life, directed by Peter Lydon for the BBC. A documentary about American standup comedy, it features Jerry Seinfeld, Bob Hope, Mort Sahl and Joan Rivers. Al has played an attorney on the Blake Clark HBO Comedy Hour. He has also played played Bill Walton’s sidekick in the the ESPN series, Bill Walton’s Long Strange Trip. Al’s solo show, Mentally Al, won the Amused Moose Award Judges Prize as the best one person show in the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Two years later he was nominated for best performer of a solo show by the Barry Awards at the 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In March 2016, Al was Marc Maron’s guest on WTF with Marc Maron. But Al does admit to missing the practice of law. Steven Cohen is making it easy to help the homeless in Owosso and Lansing!  Owner of both the O Town Cafe and Cap City Cafe, Steven Cohen started doing suspended meal program that feeds about 7-15 people daily. Suspended meals work like this, when you eat at either O Town Cafe or Cap City Cafe you can offer to pay for a suspended meal when your bill arrives. Whatever you decide to contribute goes towards a meal or drink for a homeless person.
