This week on Birds of a Feather Talk Together, we're diving into stories about two fascinating (and very different) blackbirds: the Rusty Blackbird and the Brown-headed Cowbird. The Rusty Blackbird is one of the fastest-declining bird species in North America, and we explore what makes this bird so unique, and RJ and Amanda's recent sighting of them. Then we shift to the Brown-headed Cowbird, one of the most controversial birds in birding, known for its unusual nesting behavior and brood parasitism. We also reveal the Final Four results of our Bird Championship tournament. Plus, we officially announce our Bird of the Year, and break down how it all played out.And in a really fun behind-the-scenes moment, we hear about the Listers filmmakers, the Reiser brothers, visiting John and Shannon at the Field Museum. As always, it's married ornithologists and Field Museum curators John Bates and Shannon Hackett, alongside RJ and Amanda learning right along with you. Here are links to our social and YouTube pages, give us a follow:YouTube InstagramTikTokBlueSky
Dr. Alicia Reiser, OTD, MS OTR/L is an occupational therapist with over 24 years of experience and the owner of A Rise Above Occupational Therapy Services in the Lehigh Valley, PA. She earned her clinical doctorate from Salus University (Drexel University) with a specialization in vision remediation. An active scholar and adjunct faculty at Drexel, Dr. Reiser bridges the gap between neurological rehabilitation, vision therapy, concussion recovery, ADHD care, and nervous system regulation. She is the co-owner of NeurOT Consulting and co-author of 100 Visually Loaded Activities and Occupations. In this episode, Dr. Alicia Reiser explains the critical but often overlooked connection between vision and the brain following a concussion. She discusses how visual inefficiencies (such as convergence insufficiency, double vision, and blurry vision) can mimic or worsen ADHD symptoms, hinder recovery, and cause chronic symptoms like headaches and dizziness. Dr. Reiser highlights the unique role of Occupational Therapy in vision remediation, the importance of interdisciplinary care with neuro-optometrists, and her work to establish a national Community of Practice within AOTA to standardize vision rehabilitation.

Alles schriftlich festhalten. In this episode, we will learn from Alicia Reiser, OTD, MS OTR/L, ADHD-RSP. With over 24 years of experience as an occupational therapist, Dr. Reiser is passionate about redefining rehabilitation through a truly integrative and evidence-based lens. After earning her clinical doctorate from Salus University at Drexel in 2018, specializing in vision remediation, Alicia opened her private practice, A Rise Above Occupational Therapy Services, the same year. Her practice was born from a mission to bridge the gap for individuals recovering from concussions, as well as those with ADHD who were often underserved, aged out of traditional services, or never realized how transformative occupational therapy could be. At A Rise Above, Alicia combines neurological rehabilitation with vision remediation, cognitive retraining, trauma-informed care, interoceptive awareness, and polyvagal interventions to address autonomic nervous system dysregulation. Her holistic, brain-based approach helps clients regain not just function—but balance, confidence, and control in daily life. Dr. Reiser's work reflects her commitment to helping people truly rise above their challenges through science, compassion, and innovation in occupational therapy.Contact & Resources:Website: www.ariseaboveoccupationaltherapyservies.comBook and consulting website link: https://neurotconsulting.com/Business website: https://www.ariseaboveoccupationaltherapyservices.com/Blog: https://www.ariseaboveoccupationaltherapyservices.com/post/top-3-reasons-why-occupational-therapy-and-optometry-should-be-best-friendsYouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjYkggEWqhKMVwWuX-jaoeQFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/ARiseAboveOT/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/p/Neurot-Consulting-61556820418616/IG: https://www.instagram.com/ariseaboveot/IG: https://www.instagram.com/neurot.consulting/Drexel OTD program: https://drexel.edu/academics/grad-professional-programs/cnhp/occupational-therapy-post-professionalresources/articles: https://scholarworks.wmich.edu/ojot/vol8/iss4/6/https://scholarworks.wmich.edu/ojot/vol11/iss3/8/https://cdn.ymaws.com/www.covd.org/resource/resmgr/vdr/vdr_6_3/vdr6-3_article_fessier_web.pdfhttps://scholarworks.wmich.edu/ojot/vol12/iss4/2/Book: https://www.routledge.com/Understanding-and-Managing-Vision-Deficits-A-Guide-for-Occupational-Therapists/Scheiman/p/book/9781032882871AOTA Community of Practice: Occupation Based Neuro Remedial Vision Rehab: https://www.aota.org/community/communities-of-practiceNORA: https://noravisionrehab.org/Screening tool: Convergence Insufficiency Symptom Survey (CISS): https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC2782898/figure/F2/Screening tool: QOL Symptom Survey: https://www.oepf.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/JBO-18-2-Harris.pdfAs always, I welcome any feedback & ideas from all of you, or if you are interested in being a guest on future episodes, please do not hesitate to contact Patricia Motus at transitionsot@gmail.com or DM via Instagram @transitionsotTHANK YOU for LISTENING, FOLLOWING, DOWNLOADING, RATING, REVIEWING & SHARING “The Uncommon OT Series” Podcast with all your OTP friends and colleagues!Full Episodes and Q & A only available at:https://www.wholistic-transitions.com/the-uncommon-ot-seriesSign Up NOW for the Transitions OT Email List to Receive the FREEUpdated List of Uncommon OT Practice Settingshttps://www.wholistic-transitions.com/transitionsotTo Add Your Profile to The Uncommon OT Directory:https://www.wholistic-transitions.com/requestFor Non-Traditional OT Practice Mentorship w/ Patricia:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeC3vI5OnK3mLrCXACEex-5ReO8uUVPo1EUXIi8FKO-FCfoEg/viewformHappy Listening Friends! Januar 2026)
Tom Wilson (Back to the Future, SpongeBob SquarePants) joins us for a deeply reflective, funny, and unexpectedly moving conversation about legacy, identity, and the long shadow of iconic roles. Tom opens up about the weight of Back to the Future, how fame can both elevate and trap an artist, and why learning to respect his own craft mattered more than applause. He shares vivid stories from the early stand up comedy scene alongside Seinfeld, Leno, and Reiser, his experiences working with Crispin Glover and Michael J Fox, and the personal philosophy that helped him build a grounded life beyond Hollywood expectations. In this episode of Eye on AI, we sit down with Evan Reiser, co-founder and CEO of Abnormal AI, to unpack how AI has fundamentally changed the cybersecurity landscape. We explore why social engineering remains the most costly form of cybercrime, how generative AI has lowered the barrier for sophisticated attacks, and why humans have become the primary attack surface in modern security. Evan explains why traditional, signature-based defenses fall short, how behavioral AI detects threats that have never existed before, and what it means to build security systems that understand how people actually work and communicate. The conversation also looks ahead at the AI arms race between attackers and defenders, the economics driving cybercrime, and what it truly means to be an AI-native company operating at scale. This episode is a deep dive into the human side of AI security and why the future of cybersecurity depends less on code and more on behavior. We, at OT Potential, keep hearing stories of more and more OTs teaming up with optometrists to provide vision remediation interventions. (Vision remediation focuses on retraining the eye and brain connection. This is in contrast to low vision therapy, which focuses on compensation and adapting the environment to maximize remaining vision.)The need is clear: occupational therapy can provide needed interventions for those with diagnosed visual inefficiencies from such things as acquired brain injury, or even developmentally — but the number of OTs with this training is not keeping pace with the need. But, what does it take to fill this gap? On today's 1 hour webinar we are lucky to have one OT, Alicia Reiser OTD, who has built a private practice around this need. We'll learn about the special training she pursued, how she forged relationships with local ODs, and most importantly the difference she is able to make in the lives of her clients. Support the show
Lindsey Reiser from CBS News explains the fallout generated by President Donald Trump after accusing democratic lawmakers of "seditious behavior". How lawmakers are responding today. The September jobs report was finally released after being delayed due to the government shutdown and it beat economists expectations. What this means for the economy as the year comes to an end.
A Big Year is maybe the ultimate expression of birding obsession, with all the drama inherent to the effort. Brothers Quentin and Owen Reiser's attempt at a Big Year maybe most of all. It's the subject of their documentary, Listers, an attempt to throw themselves into the birding world through perhaps the most extreme expression of the hobby. It's profane, it's funny, it's honest, and it covers all aspects of the birding world, warts and all. Owen joins us to talk about the film and his experience undertaking what he calls a "fully dirtbag Big Year". Plus there's a companion book! Paul Reiser is a comedian, actor, writer and producer who just happens to have starred in some of Team Empire's favourite films. So, when our Chris Hewitt was given the chance to talk to the star of Aliens, Diner, Whiplash, and Beverly Hills Cop, he jumped at the chance. The result is a wide-ranging and freewheeling chat about Reiser's astonishing start in Hollywood, his aversion to directing, his time spent working with Peter Falk, the experience of shooting Aliens and Whiplash and, of course, his new movie, The Problem With People, a charming Ireland-set comedy which he wrote and produced, as well as starring alongside Colm Meaney. It's a cracking interview, with Reiser on top form, and so we invite you to turn up your collar, relax and listen. Enjoy.
Have you ever known someone who's technical brilliance was overshadowed by personal failings? This is the story of Hans Reiser, a software developer driven to create a superior Linux filesystem, but whose difficult personality got in the way. Then came the disappearance of his wife, Nina, in 2006. The investigation pointed to Reiser, ending with a murder conviction that shocked the tech world. Reiser's story is a reminder of how technical skills and personal integrity need to go hand in hand. From prison, he reflects on his mistakes, realizing the need for empathy and collaboration. His legacy, once about innovation, now serves as a cautionary tale. Episode Page Support The Show Subscribe To The Podcast Join The Newsletter
It is May 24, 2000, and we are going to Tuscarawas County in Ohio to New Philadelphia. It is exactly what you think of when you say small-town America, with lots of farmland and friendly people. Elizabeth Reiser who goes by Liz is a 17-year-old high school student who is looking forward to graduating and finding out all that life has to hold for her. Her good friend 18 year old Brandi Hicks asked Liz to come over and stay the night with her. On this day Brandi who was in the school choir was going to the choir banquet and wanted Liz to go with her. Even though it was a school night, her mother relented and said yes. That evening, the two friends visited a video store in New Philadelphia after the choir banquet to rent some videos for a movie night. When they left the store and started to get into the car, a man approached them. The man claimed he had no means of getting home and asked the girls for a ride, telling them he lived nearby. The girls hesitated and told them they really needed to get home. The man then offered them $20 as an incentive. The girls did not want to give this stranger a ride, but he urged them to, and they relented. They were young, naive, and always looked for the best in people. After all, he only needed to go across town and then they could go back and watch the movie they had rented. Neither Brandi nor Liz would ever get to watch that movie.
