The House passed the American Dream and Promise Act in March 2021, which would allow DACA recipients, or “Dreamers,” to apply for permanent residency and end the legal limbo that has repeatedly jeopardized their ability to stay in the United States.
This week Alain and Cris sit down to review this week’s news including: DACA deal for the wall, integrity and ethics in today’s politics, six vets write a stern letter to sophomore for leaving Naval Academy football, good sportsmanship and Alain points out a treasonous act.
The debate continues on illegal undocumented immigration in the US.
I talk about Trump's deal to reopen government, and how Pelosi has already rejected it. Then, on a sadder note, I get into the US deaths in the Syria suicide bomber, and the Army Ranger KIA in Afghanistan. Also the Mexican gas pipeline explosion disaster, terror in Kenya, protests in Sudan, and Buddhist monks assassinated in Thailand. Plus a quadriplegic guy fulfilled life long dream of making gay porn. Music: Andre Nickatina/"Mind full of hatred"

On this episode of Hanging With Apes the guys start off by talking about President Trump's Easter morning declaration that there would be no deal to legalize the status of undocumented immigrants under DACA. The guys give their take on what this means for Trump politically. The conversation then switches to companies pulling their advertising from Laura Ingraham's show after she criticized David Hogg, a Parkland school shooting survivor. Hogg retaliated by tweeting a list of her show's advertisers and urging twitter followers to boycott her. Finally, the Audio Apes talk about the success of ABC's sitcom "Roseanne" and why it's political undertones are a big reason why its ratings are so high. Furthermore, we are starting to see shows like HBO's Silicon Valley tackle political climate with wit and balance or shows like Netflix's documentary series "Flint Town" focusing on showing individual policemen and women as well as the citizen's perspective instead of pushing an agenda. Is this a sign for better material in the entertainment business to flourish in the future? Enjoy this week's episode of Hanging with Apes.

In this week's State of Kentucky show, we start with a look at the drastic change to Medicaid that Governor Bevin has proposed. Then, we talk with Al Cross about the Medicaid waiver lawsuit filed against ... President Trump? Why not Governor Bevin? We also look at immigrants in Kentucky and the recent shutdown drama around DACA, and we talk with Congressman Yarmuth about why the Republicans are so reluctant to do something about Dreamers. Finally, there's an update to the number of candidates who have filed to run for the General Assembly, and we ask: Where are the Democrats?
In a gaggle with reporters, Trump might have sunk a DACA Deal. It's clear that he doesn't understand what the hell he's talking about. He also said he looks forward to talking to Robert Mueller. We talk about it with USA Today's Paul Singer. Plus, Donald Trump is taking his assault on green energy to Davos. Axios's Amy harder gives us the details. And how are DREAMers feeling about the shutdown and the lack of a deal? We talk to Esther Lee from ThinkProgress about her experiences.
Paul goes behind the curtain this week to look at the brief shutdown that stopped the government in its tracks. Who won? Did Democrats cave? Do Republicans deserve a victory lap? And will there be a DACA deal in the coming weeks? Also, a look to the impact on US trade policy after the international meeting […]

President Trump's now-infamous comments from last week, disparaging Haiti and many African countries, are still ricocheting around the world, and are complicating efforts to reach a bipartisan deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. The government is, once again, set to run out of funding on Friday. And a record number of House Republicans have announced they're not running for re-election ahead of the 2018 midterms. This episode, host/congressional correspondent Scott Detrow, congressional correspondent Susan Davis, political reporter Jessica Taylor and political editor Domenico Montanaro. Representative Will Hurd (R-Texas 23) certainly hopes so. The congressman, who serves as the vice-chair of the Maritime and Border Security Subcommittee on the House Committee for Homeland Security, talks about the possibility of a bipartisan DACA deal and why we should care about the anti-government protests in Iran. Marvin Weinbaum, director for Pakistani Studies at the Middle East Institute, discusses President Trump’s threats to pull funding from Pakistan.

This week, the Guys start off by talking about the potential deal President Trump reached with Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi that involves allowing Dreamers to stay in the country legally in exchange for enhanced border security. Mike is cautiously optimistic about the proposal while Jay believes that Schumer and Pelosi may be far more interested in a 2018 campaign issue than a legislative accomplishment. Next is a look at Senator Bernie Sanders' 'Medicare For All' legislation, which he introduced this week. Neither Mike nor Jay think it has a chance of passing, and while Mike would support a true 'Medicare for All' bill, he argues that what Sanders calls for is far more generous than Medicare and would be a financial disaster. Jay doesn't disagree, though he's definitely not in favor of even a scaled-back 'Medicare For All' type program. Finally, Mike and Jay talk about the political implications of the Equifax security breach. Mike believes it's high time we updated our regulatory framework and impose the sort of oversight on credit rating agencies that we do on other financial institutions. Jay doesn't disagree, exactly, though he's far more skeptical of the value of imposing more regulations on the agencies and favors alternate approaches to incentivizing them to keep our personal data safe.
