At today's Youth Service, Pastor Femi Paul shared a powerful exhortation titled: "You're Destined for Greatness, But Are You Ready?" He opened by defining Greatness as significant accomplishments, importance, power, success and fame (Cambridge Dictionary), but reminded us that true greatness is measured by exceptional work, contribution to society, and the lasting impact we make in the lives of others. Drawing examples from scripture, Pastor Femi showed how: David became king at 30 years old, Joseph stepped into leadership at 30, Solomon asked God for wisdom at just 20, And even Jesus started His earthly ministry at 30. He challenged us that although we are destined for greatness, we must actively prepare for it! What it takes to prepare for greatness: Proverbs 26:1 (TPT) reminds us that, "It is totally out of place to promote and honour a fool, just like it's out of place to have snow in the summer and rain at harvest time!" Similarly, Ecclesiastes 10:16 (GNT) warns, "A country is in trouble when its king is a youth-fool and its leaders feast all night long." The message was clear: Promotion Cometh, get yourself ready. We must cultivate wisdom, responsibility, and character now, so that when our moment comes, we will be ready to rise and shine for God's glory!

For a term that's gained ground with millennials and Gen Z, the word 'manifest' actually dates back to the 1300s. Back then it was an adjective meaning 'clear' or 'obvious'. You can spot it in William Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice, even in the work of Geoffrey Chaucer. Nowadays, 'manifest' has a totally new meaning – the idea that, through the power of belief, we can effectively think a goal into becoming reality. Although positive thinking, self-affirmation and goal-setting all have beneficial effects, some psychologists have argued manifestation could lead to unrealistic expectations, even obsessive behaviour. Nevertheless, the term has gained traction on social media, and this year on the Cambridge Dictionary website it was looked up almost 130,000 times.

There are an increasing number of trends and products out there to rid your body of toxins, such as infrared saunas, liver-purifying supplements and detox diets. But what exactly are toxins? According to the Cambridge Dictionary, a toxin is “a poisonous substance, especially one produced by bacteria, that causes disease.” However, today we tend to use the word toxin to refer to all the harmful substances present in the body such as food additives, pesticides, alcohol, gluten or pollutants. It's actually kind of misleading, because not all toxins are as bad as one might think. That's especially true when you consider that our bodies are capable of flushing out toxins on their own, without the need for any fancy treatments or supplements. Which organs in the body are responsible for eliminating toxins? People say that you have to sweat to flush out toxins… is that true? Are we saying there's no need to flush toxins out after all? I did my best to keep up with pop culture and the latest trends for decades. When I worked in radio, knowing everything my listeners were interested in was essential. But in recent years, that hasn't been a huge priority. And I realize as I get older, keeping up with the latest trends doesn't matter. The other day, the Cambridge Dictionary announced their word of the year; manifest. When I heard the word, my first thought was manifest destiny and America's westward expansion. But that's not why it was the word of the year. Once again, pop culture comes into play... The Cambridge Dictionary defines enunciation as: "the act of pronouncing words or parts of words clearly." We have a speech crisis in America. A high percentage of current elementary children have a speech impediment. Cambridge defines impediment as: "something that makes progress, movement, or achieving something difficult or impossible."Far too many children cannot speak well enough to be understood...and it's at a crisis level NOW! Part of the root cause is spending too much time on technology instead of speaking with your own family or with other humans. The other part of the root cause, (in my opinion), stems from school closures during the pandemic. Extended school closures ruined the learning of many children and never did anything significant to "prevent" Covid. What we did "accomplish" was to create a generation of children who are mentally, physically, and spiritually damaged...and especially when it comes to speaking clearly enough to be understood. I expand on the above during this episode in hopes that it will create an awareness with adults who can take proper action to start talking with children--and in the same room together instead of being in the same room absorbed into their own tech devices.*Photo by Ron Jones
There are two basic types of leadership: Positional and Influential. The first is a leadership role where it is in your job description to lead others; the second is leading by influence rather than by any type of formal authority to do so. What exactly is influence? Merriam-Webster defines it as “the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.” Note that the definition of influence is neutral: your influence could be positive or negative. You could influence like Martin Luther King, JR….or like Charles Manson. To be clear: You can be a positional leader who leads by positive influence…I highly recommend it. This way, you are building trust, motivation, and the loyalty of your team. Yes, they have to do what you tell them to do because you are their boss, but how much better for them to do it because they are loyal to you, the team, and the company? What's the definition of leadership? Cambridge Dictionary defines it like this: “The people in control of a group, country, or situation.” Notice how basic this definition is? MUCH has been written about the qualities and characteristics of a great leader…the types of leaders…etc. But leadership, as defined by Cambridge Dictionary, simply means whoever's in charge of whatever. Today, I want to talk about how to influence others when you don't have the authority to do so. Why is this important? Here are six reasons: #1 – You've been placed into a leadership role for a project where the other members of the team don't report directly to you. While you will likely be asked to give feedback to each team member's direct supervisor at some point, you aren't their boss. #2 – You want to be considered for your first leadership role. Being able to give examples of when you led by influence will significantly help your candidacy. You'll also be sharpening your leadership skills along the way. #3 – You've led before and want to do so on a larger scale. As with the previous example, being able to give an example of how you performed as an influential leader will help your chances for getting a positional leadership role. #4 – You want to become a better version of yourself. Your efforts to inspire and motivate others will strengthen your best personality traits. #5 – You want to get a better result. If you are part of a team that isn't performing to its capacity, your ability to lead by influence might very well enhance your project's outcome. #6 – To build team cohesion. Building trust, gaining people's buy in, and feeling like the team has each other's backs is a great feeling – and a highly valued skill. What are the characteristics of someone who is successful in leading by influence? -Confidence. If you project confidence, your team will gain confidence in you. If you are jittery, panicky, and indecisive…your team will not likely have confidence in you and your decisions. -Expertise. If you have a reputation as a thoughtful, nuanced, and critical thinker, people will hear you out when you propose a new idea. -Emotional Intelligence. You listen to their needs, understand their point of view, and help them develop solutions to problems they bring up. Here are nine strategies for leading with influence rather than authority. Some of these speak to actions you can take in your day-to-day work life, whereas others are specific to being on a group project or team where there is an opportunity to lead through influence. #1 – Use your expertise. You don't want to sound like a know-it-all, of course, but using your knowledge of your work function or industry can help you make powerful recommendations and requests. We're not talking about bragging, but rather not being hesitant to mention an accomplishment, an award you recently received, or other skill or competency you possess. Learning how to self-promote without coming across as a know-it-all is a valuable skill. #2 – Build relationships throughout your organization. Build genuine relationships by practicing active listening, showing empathy, and being approachable. Ideally, some of those relationships should be with others who lead through influence, so you can learn from them. #3 – Create an open environment. By creating a transparent and open environment with communication flow and collaboration, you will be in a much better position to lead by influence. #4 - Understand your audience. Get to know your team members, their motivations, backgrounds, and goals. Frame your interactions with them accordingly. #5 – Expect resistance. No matter how well you navigate this process, there will be those who resist your attempts to lead by influence. Allow them the opportunity to air their grievances without becoming defensive. #6 – Be a team player. Deliver on your promises, suggest great ideas, and know when to take a back seat so others can shine. Help your colleagues out by taking on extra work or staying late when needed. #7 – Recognize other people's work styles. Whenever possible, adapt to the work style of the group as a whole or certain individuals. You're not trying to be someone you aren't, you're simply showing flexibility and an ability to read the room. If you are working with an individual or group that prefers to brainstorm for quite a while before deciding on a course of action – do your best to accommodate that. If the individual or group tends towards decisiveness – do your best to accommodate that. #8 – Simplify things. Utilize your verbal and written communication skills to succinctly express your project proposal or idea; busy people don't have time to try to interpret a complex proposal. #9 – Spread positivity. Regularly give recognition, maintain a positive outlook, and approach situations with a growth mindset. People will gravitate towards you – and want to work with you. Here's my bottom line for you today: DO NOT wait until you're in a leadership position to exercise your leadership skills…you may never get the opportunity. Rather, look for strategic opportunities to lead by influence, and be sure to keep track of those situations as you update your resume and LI profile. One more excellent tip: As you have these opportunities and experience success around leading by influence, ask those who had a front-row seat to write you a recommendation about that experience for your LI profile. This is so powerful: rather than just you saying you were a tremendous success, a third-party expert is extolling your strengths. In this conversation, Jason and Mindy discuss various topics including a resilient plant that could grow on Mars, the smell of space, childhood nicknames, and the importance of obstacles in life's journey.https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbVKw1dbdm9iJ_qIQ3jPAAghttps://www.lowtreestudios.com/PLANTING EVIDENCE:⇒ Scientists say they have discovered an amazingly resilient plant that may someday help astronauts colonize Mars. Chinese botanists put the desert-dwelling moss “Syntrichia caninervis” through a series of tests simulating the harsh Martian environment, and found that it is not only radiation-tolerant, it can also survive extreme conditions that would kill most other plants. The plant is “a promising candidate pioneer plant for colonizing extraterrestrial environments, laying the foundation for building biologically sustainable human habitats beyond Earth.”SPACE HAS A SMELL _ according to Former NASA astronaut Mike Hopkins, who once spent 166 days aboard the International Space Station. In a tell-all, “ask-me-anything” Reddit interview a few years back, Hopkins said, “Space has a smell. And I don't mean inside the space station. When a visiting vehicle docks with the space station, there is ‘space' between the two vehicles. Once the pressure is equalized and the hatch is opened, you have this metallic ionization-type smell. It's quite unique and very distinct.WHAT'S WORDS WORTH:Ick. “The ick” is now officially a thing. And by ‘a thing' I mean it has made it into the dictionary. The ick is among the 3,200 new additions in the newest version of the Cambridge Dictionary, which definitely includes some Gen Z slang words that are going to make some of us feel old. In addition to the ick, which is “the sudden feeling that you dislike someone or something or are no longer attracted to someone because of something they do”, here are some of the other new additions to the Cambridge Dictionary…Boop: Popularized in “Schitt's Creek”, it refers to a gentle hit or touch on a person's or animal's nose or head, showing that you like them, or as a joke.”Face Journey: A series of expressions that appear on someone's face showing different emotions that they are experiencing as a reaction to something. Chef's kiss: When you put your fingers and thumb together, kiss them, then pull your hand away as a way of showing that you think of something or someone as excellent. Speedrun: This gaming term means “to complete a computer game as quickly as possible”, but offline, it means “to complete something much faster than it is usually done.”• Side Quest: This gaming term means “a part of a computer game that has its own aim and story but is not part of the main game”, but IRL it means “an activity that is done in addition to another activity and is less important than it.”

Cambridge Dictionary refers to the ego as the idea or opinion that we have of ourselves. We can consider the ego as the ongoing conscious experience of existence and of what “I am” in relation to that experience of existence. But the current understanding of what we are is very individualistic and it's focused on that ego as being an entirely separate entity that is able to choose behaviour, to make independent decisions, that can be built up, can become more confident and can have more sense of worth until it becomes healthy, which is the ultimate goal. So the healthy ego is seen as an ego that has a substantial belief in itself. What we are going to consider in this episode, though, is that actually that is a completely unhealthy ego, and we are going to unpack what a really healthy ego feels like. What is Covered: -Why we are so exhausted trying to protect our egos-What a healthy ego really means-How a healthy ego reacts to stress -How a healthy ego relates to free will and willpower-Observation qualities of a healthy ego-Accountability and truth of a healthy ego Resources: -Download our exclusive recording Free Subliminal: Supporting the Enquiring Mind bit.ly/podcastsubliminal -Learn more about me and my work at https://claredimond.simplero.com/ -Find me on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/claredimondreal -Let's connect on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/clare-dimond-b533007/ -Follow me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/clare_v_dimond/
Welcome to What Matters Now, a weekly podcast exploring one key issue currently shaping Israel and the Jewish World, hosted by deputy editor Amanda Borschel-Dan. The Cambridge Dictionary defines "optimism" as "the quality of being full of hope and emphasizing the good parts of a situation, or a belief that something good will happen." Looking at war-torn Israel today, it is a quality that appears to be in short supply. But in this week's What Matters Now, The Times of Israel's senior analyst Haviv Rettig Gur points out that while things look bleak now, there are several reasons for optimism. We begin the program by discussing Israel's 5th place on the annual World Happiness Report, which, in addition to self-assessed evaluations of life satisfaction, is also based on GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity and corruption. Incredibly, the self-reported Israeli data was collected following the October 7 massacre of 1,200 individuals and hostage-taking of 252 by Hamas terrorists and the resultant, ongoing war in Gaza. Even faced with a "negative outlook" by ratings agency S&P Global and Moody's Investors Service on the Israeli economy, Rettig Gur finds signs of economic optimism -- stemming from the Haredi community. So this memorial week, we ask Haviv Rettig Gur, what matters now? What Matters Now podcasts are available for download on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts. Ever wonder about the strength of the bonds we forge simply through trust? "Just trust me" – three small words that pack a massive punch in the realm of relationships and integrity. Stephen Feith takes us on a profound journey, examining the essence of trust and our worthiness of it, with insights from the Cambridge Dictionary and Dr. Henry Cloud. It's not enough to believe we are trustworthy; we must actively demonstrate it through understanding, good motives, abilities, character, and a commendable track record.Imagine sitting with a doctor who doesn't listen; frustration bubbles up as trust in their expertise wanes. My personal narrative serves as a springboard to discuss the importance of understanding in building trust, whether it's within marriages, friendships, or even small groups at church. Wisdom from Proverbs warns us against ignoring the pursuit of understanding – a vital piece of advice we should all heed. Through listening and empathizing, we can become trustworthy pillars in our own communities, reflecting Christ's teachings and fostering a space for growth and connection. From the intimate conversations in our living rooms to the communal bonds at Madison Church, trust is the glue that holds us together. By examining the necessity of a solid track record before taking on leadership roles within the church, this episode emphasizes the actions over words approach to building trust. Even when that trust is fractured, we are called to mend the rifts, much like God's unwavering faith in us. It's an invitation to join me in nurturing integrity, reliability, and ultimately, a thriving Christian community built on the bedrock of trust.Support the showIf you enjoyed this episode, consider subscribing to Madison Church on your favorite podcast platform. According to the Cambridge Dictionary madness is defined as “stupid or dangerous behaviour” and one doesn't need to look too hard to see it all around us. From destroying our natural environment, ignoring the negative effects of human behavior on the climate, to allowing a congenital liar in an obvious state of intellectual decline to have a chance of returning to an office he incited violence in order to avoid vacating previously, the list seems endless. Living in a society where nominating and electing cowards and criminals to higher office is a common occurrence is nearly enough to drive a sane person to despair. It is important to remember that the mad and the stupid are not the majority. They are loud and flamboyant and the media tends to give them a disproportionate amount of attention. The sane and the sensible are the majority in this country. If we can avoid despairing and remain focused and motivated we can as a country overcome the serious threat of antidemocratic authoritarianism. Let us not forget to hope, nurture, and laugh. Especially to laugh at the madness and stupidity and carry on. Nietzsche on the madness of crowds, Sea of Madness, Insanity is a great virus, Rachel Powell's media bubble, Dumb or insane? If you connect with hearth witchcraft or identify as a kitchen witch, hygge is a concept you'll eagerly welcome into your life. The Danish word hygge can be defined as a quality of coziness that comes from doing simple things such as lighting candles, baking, or spending time at home with your family (Cambridge Dictionary). Steaming cups of coffee, a crackling fire, soft blankets, cozy socks, flickering candles, freshly baked bread, soup bubbling on the stovetop, cuddling your favorite pet, engaging conversation, time in nature, snuggling up with a good book… all of these things are hyggelig! Put on some cozy mittens, lace up your boots, and enjoy this chilly walk in the woods as we eagerly await the snow and talk about all things hearth, home, and hygge! Mushroom RisottoIngredients:4 tablespoons butter2 tablespoons miso paste 1-2 cups Mushroom medley 3 tablespoons olive oil2 tablespoons roughly chopped fresh thyme or parsley 6 garlic cloves minced and divided in half6 to 8 cups vegetable broth 2 large leeks or onion 1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to tasteFreshly cracked black pepper2 cups Arborio rice2/3 cup white wine 1/4 cup parmesan cheese• Instructions: Take the butter and miso out of the fridge and place in a small bowl to soften. Once softened, use a fork to cream them together until well combined.• Add the vegetable broth to a saucepan. Once it comes to a rapid simmer, adjust the heat to keep the broth warm/hot at a gentle simmer.• Cook the mushrooms and leeks/onions in olive oil for 8 to 9 minutes, until nicely browned, stirring only occasionally.• Reduce the heat to medium. Add the chopped thyme and garlic to the mushrooms. Season with 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt. Cook for 2 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning. • Add the creamed miso butter and stir into the mushrooms. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Set aside. • Cook the risotto. Heat a Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed deep sauté pan over medium heat.• Pour in the wine, and stir to scrape any bits stuck to the bottom of the pot, cooking until the wine is nearly evaporated.• Ladle in 1 cup warm vegetable broth and stir frequently but not constantly. Once the rice has absorbed the liquid, add the next round of broth, 1 cup at a time. • Continue this process stirring about every 30 seconds and adding more broth when most of the liquid has been absorbed.• It should take about 20 minutes from the time you add the first ladle of broth, or until the risotto is slightly firm and creamy.• Add cooked mushrooms to the risotto, and stir to warm through. • Remove from the heat, and stir in parmesan, if using. Season to taste, add fresh herbs. Enjoy!Sweet Potato Brownieshttps://www.wellplated.com/sweet-potato-brownies/#wprm-recipe-container-33710
Allyship is defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as “the quality or practice of helping or supporting other people who are part of a group that is treated badly or unfairly, although you are not yourself a member of this group. The word and topic of miracles has been coming into my attention for awhile now, and it feels like a continuation from our themes of "hope" and manifesting our dream lives. I asked Spirit for inspiration for a new episode about a month ago, and my attention kept going to my bookshelf. I felt guided to "A Course in Miracles" and grabbed a couple other books off the shelf. In this episode, I delve into the concept of miracles, exploring its various definitions and a few personal examples of how this has been showing up. I highlighted the idea that miracles involve a shift in perception and that they offer moments of rebirth. The discussion also touches on the practical application of love in our lives and the interconnected nature of miracles with the broader concept of synchronicity. In this episode: I felt drawn to explore the topic of miracles through a spiritual process. Definitions from different sources, including Encyclopedia Britannica and Cambridge Dictionary, shaped the understanding of miracles. The journey started with a thought to spirit and a previous transmission on hope. "A Course in Miracles" and "Simple Abundance" provided insights into miracles as shifts in perception and affirmations of rebirth. Emphasis on the practical application of love in our lives and surrendering ego preconceptions. Miracles are connected to the concept of synchronicity and the idea of spirit crumbs. The 1717 number sequence symbolizes beginnings, endings, hope, and movement. Miracles have a ripple effect beyond our immediate awareness. The “word of the year” is an apt one for 2023 and speaks rather well to the state of our culture. In fact, Cambridge Dictionary stated that their word of the year “reminds us that humans still need to bring their critical thinking” into play. In today's Daily Article, Dr. Jim Denison argues that such critical thinking skills are unlikely to be popular in a “post-truth” culture that measures facts by feelings and moral standards by personal opinion. But Christians must apply their critical thinking and spiritual insight to today's news if we truly want to see change in the world. This episode is brought to you by the phrase, how to read the room, an essential skill for everyone whether you're giving a presentation or a speech, going to a meeting or job interview or audition, leading your team or asking your boss for a raise... Here to discuss is returning champion Marta Ravin. Marta is an Emmy nominated executive producer and showrunner and sought after keynote speaker who started her career in standup comedy, which is where we first met, and where Marta honed her exceptional skills in how to read the room. The Cambridge Dictionary defines reading the room as to be or become aware of the opinions and attitudes of a group of people that you are talking to. How do you do this? It's a sensory experience, explains Marta, and requires you to be present in the moment and attuned to the energy of the space, taking in information with all 5 senses. 3 key takeaways: You have the power to shift the mood of the room and can pivot at any time by engaging the audience with questions. When possible, study up on who your audience is. Take to social media, review websites, Google them so you are prepared with talking points that they will connect to. Reading the Zoom is harder than reading the room. Put your best foot forward and leave your camera on, let people know you are present and engaged…besides, you are Camera Ready! Marta has been sharing compelling stories, producing iconic content and making people laugh for her entire career. You can learn more at www.martaravinproductions.com and be sure to check out Marta's previous episode on Camera Ready and Abel focused on timing.
Currently GhiaLogic is in the mode of being disciplined!
