A Routine STI Check. A Life-Changing Diagnosis. At 21, Ellie Harrison was living her London dream; working in fashion, in a long-term relationship, studying and partying with friends. Then a routine STI check changed everything: she was HIV positive. Her diagnosis was a complete mystery, and in that moment it felt like the sky was falling. I appreciate that it's been a while since our last episode. There continues to be a lot of change for everyone during this time (yes an understatement, I know). I'm very much about sharing stories that are of interest to me and/or that are very relevant to what's going on. This one ticks both of those boxes. I first met Ellie Harrison last September when she was a panellist for one of our Kinder Communities events for the Leeds Festival of Kindness, Compassion and Wellbeing. Ellie is an amazing artist and I wanted to find out more about her body of work called The Grief Series. I really enjoyed hearing about the different projects that form this work and her collaborations with other artists in the UK and Mexico. Grief is something we all experience and yet we don't talk about it enough. These projects allow people to explore it in creative and safe ways using compassion, humour, clever words, emotion, fun and splashes of colour. Ellie also talks about how she's been providing others with support this past year through resources that she's made readily available. To explore them and learn more about her work please check her website: https://www.griefseries.co.uk/
On this episode, developing leader, Ellie Harrison joins us for an honest discussion around leadership, learning, and the challenges young professionals will face as they climb the career ladder. Growing up with three brothers, Ellie experienced leadership from a young age. Whether it was fighting for the rights to the TV, or practising sharp negotiation skills, she had the fundamentals of a successful leader engrained, from the get go. Starting her career as a graduate, Ellie explains the fascination she felt around leadership. That fascination quickly turned to passion for guiding others, being on the front foot, and developing her ideas. During the episode, Ellie discusses various experiences and lessons learned outside of the comfort zone, something she knows well and promotes. When the organisation Ellie worked within joined the Marsh family, she was told to look at this as a ‘village of opportunity', and that she did. Describing the ‘Colleague Resource Groups' available to her as a ‘map' of the business, Ellie was keen to get involved in these to grow her network and help others. This episode is a hub of advice and inspiration for people of all ages. Whether you're a young professional getting started in your career, or you're established within your sector, Ellie gives a refreshing and important view on growth and leadership. You'll also hear an optimistic spin on the current situation the world faces, and the ways we can use it to our advantage.

This podcast features recordings made at the Green Tease event COP Tales and Cocktails, which brought together people from a wide range of arts, sustainability, campaigning, and policy organisations to have a few drinks and discuss plans for creative engagement with COP26 when it comes to Glasgow in November 2020. The podcast starts with an introduction from Ben Twist, director of Creative Carbon Scotland, who discusses his previous experience of COPs in Copenhagen and Paris and offers some advice on what the barriers tend to be and what makes for the most effective work. This is followed by some thoughts from Chris Fremantle of ecoartscotland. Chris also led a performance of an extract from environmental artists Helen and Newton Harrison's Lagoon Cycle poem, which is not included in the podcast but can be read on their website. This is followed by elevator pitches from organisations and individuals who are already making plans for COP26. In order of appearance these are: Stop Climate Chaos, Manchester Science Festival, Glasgow National Park City, Creative Climate Symposium, Ellie Harrison, artist and activist, RSPB, Edinburgh Data Visualisation Meetup Group. These recordings are being made available so that those who were unable to make it on the night due to distance, weather, or inability to get a ticket can still hear about what is being planned and get involved.
