During the Covid-19 pandemic, millions of workers got used to working at home. Some moved hundreds of miles from the cities where their companies were based to live a cheaper and less stressful life. But now that in-office work is back, a rising number of people are looking to eat their cake and have it, too, combining good jobs in urban centres with a peaceful rural life. To make that work, they have to ‘supercommute', travelling for hours on end to get to the office. But why do they do it? Isabel speaks to Mo Marikar, who commutes from North Wales to London, and Max Dawes, who takes a ferry, bus, train and metro from the Isle of Wight to London – a four-hour commute. But French speakers' use of 'black' is in a category of its own: this one short syllable tells the story of France's racial and colonial legacies and how they stack up against U.S. history, from slavery to Black Lives Matter. Both countries are idealistic, rooted in 18th-century revolutions and grand principles. But while many in the US value racial and ethnic difference, France sees itself as a color-blind society that rejects the race-based policies of its past. It used to be pretty easy to define adulthood in New Zealand. Your parents would throw you a 21st birthday party and give you a giant, tacky key to signify you were old enough to come and go from the house as you please. But the metrics for reaching adulthood are changing says Emma Jacobs, a columnist for the Financial Times who writes about career and work. We'll talk to her about how this generation is putting off the hallmarks of adulthood; marriage, home ownership and commitment to a career and how economics are driving this change.

Canada/US relations just experienced a major shock when truck protesters closed several border crossings including the Ambassador Bridge which carries one-quarter of all bilateral trade and is the busiest commercial crossing in the world. This came after weeks of the so-called “freedom convoy” arrived in Ottawa and was emulated in other capitals in Canada, the US and Europe. Canusa Street hosts Chris and Scotty talk with a journalist who has been covering the unrest in Canada since it began.
