Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Meehan to look back at surprisingly unsurprising defeat away to Man City and ahead to Man Utd this week.In part one Franks team changes beg more questions: is Frank under orders, down to the bare bones or just clueless? More Keystone Kops defending cost us again. In fairness, we didn't play too badly as in we didn't get hammered!! But its not really good enough, is it? And why having been held back from the England U20 squad did Chukwuemeke only come on with 9 minutes to go? The season really needs to end doesn't it?In part two we look ahead to Thursday night's match against Man Utd kicking off with Chidge's team selection. Will Frank heed his advice? Very probably not!! Utd will still have one eye on Liverpool who have a better goal difference, if Utd lose against us and Fulham at home (Liverpool away v Southampton). Utd only lost once at home in the league this season – v Brighton 1st match. Given this dare we hope for a win for Chelsea? In part three we wrap up the show with a couple of listener emails. With Lewis Hall kept back from the England U20 squad, will Frank pick him on Saturday? Kante looks set to stay while Silva may be off - what do we think? And we welcome the price freeze on general admission season tickets announced by Chelsea's board this week.In part two we preview Saturday's match against Nottinghma Forest starting with Chidge's team selection. After beating Bournemouth last weekend, has Chelsea's confidence returned? Forest are fighting for survival but will Chelsea be on the beach? Chelsea need to finish the season well and with tough fixtures coming up it could be Chelsea's last win this season. With that in mind we give our predictions. Hosted on Acast. David and Keith Mayer combined their knowledge and desire to provide better experiences for athletes, which led to them writing their #1 best selling book, “Gold Dust: How to Become A More Effective Coach, Quickly.” And now #1 again with “The Lone Wolf” A story about assumptions, authenticity and actions.https://www.thegolddustcoach.com/courses-and-mentoringJoin Richie and the Gold Dust crew again for part 2, sprinkling particles of knowledge.SOCIAL MEDIA LINK…TWITTER… @keithmayer5@djmayer3@GoldDustPodcastWEBSITE… www.thegolddustcoach.com As two ex-soccer players who represented professional clubs, David and Keith both followed similar paths in their playing careers. They both played in England, and David played in Spain. Both David and Keith had relatively successful college careers in America. David was a two-year captain at a #1 ranked Division 1 school, while Keith captained a winning National Championship team and was named MVP in 1982. They both suffered very similar injuries throughout their careers, both retiring at young ages. After retiring from playing, both David and Keith started coaching. Keith became one of the youngest UEFA A License coaches in England at the time, passing in 1985. Keith was mentored by and was a close friend of one of the greatest coach educators of all time, Dick Bate, who sadly passed away in 2017. Keith worked alongside Dick, presenting on Pro License courses, among other things. Keith has coached ex England Internationals while working at three highly successful Academies in England and is currently coaching at Liverpool FC's prestigious Academy. Keith is also currently an FA Affiliate Tutor and presented on the FA Level 4 Psychology course for over a decade. He has been a National Team Head Coach on an interim basis for one of England's National Teams and was the Head Coach for England U20's Cerebral Palsy Team on their winning trip to Brazil in 2013. Keith has personally mentored Premier League Footballers, England National Team Coaches, a Pride of Britain Winner, a World Champion athlete, a PGA Golfer, an Assistant Manager of a Football League Club in England, personnel within soccer in America, personnel within the South Korean Football Association and many more. Keith is highly respected across the world for his work, delivering on six continents. Keith's credentials and experiences were valuable for David on his journey as a coach. For David, being able to get guidance, and observe some of the finest coach educators in the world not only helped him understand the time, organisation and fine details that go into being elite, but also enabled him to gain invaluable experiences to continue to help his progression as a person. David's upbringing was distinctive and provided a platform that most others would not receive. David just completed his UEFA A License and was an Assistant Coach at the National Champion Pfeiffer University Soccer Team and Manchester City Football Schools. He has also coached and delivered on four continents and has recently accepted a position to become the Global Head of Foundation Phase for a club based out of Utah called 7Elite Academy. Back again with another corker of an episode. This week we're very lucky to be joined by young Charlie Atkinson of Wasps. This season has been his breakthrough seeing Charlie make his first starts for the club and completing his first 80 minutes of professional rugby and scoring his first European and Premiership points.Charlie enlightens us about what its been like in his progression from academy and school level rugby. He talks to us about that dual with Owen Farrell in the summer which ended with Charlie knocked out on the floor, and Owen red carded! As well as this, we talk about what its been like as a 18 year old living away from home and living his dream despite these weird COVID-19 times. Charlie provides fascinating, insightful and funny stories of his albeit brief but successful career and what is next for him.Massive congratulations to Charlie on his recent call up to England U20's and we wish him the best of luck for the rest of the season and thank him massively for giving up his time. P.s. if you do get an opportunity do give the video a watch to see the results of his squad fine! Trust us its worth it!
On this week's episode, cross-code back Guy Armitage joins the panel to discuss his career and his next steps in rugby league. The 28-year-old former England U20 rugby union international made the switch to the 13-man code last year with London Broncos and in 2021 will join the new Canadian team entering League One, Ottawa Aces.Armitage tells Marc Bazeley and Sky Sports rugby league expert Phil Clarke which he decided to make the switch and what the biggest changes he has had to adjust to are. There is a look back on growing up with fellow professionals Steffon and Delon, what it meant playing alongside his two brothers for London Irish and his experiences of being part of a Toulon team full of global rugby union superstars.Plus, Armitage speaks out on the mental health issues which affect players in both codes and why he is training to become a counsellor when his playing days are over.
Darren & Pete chat to Ollie Stedman, ex Leeds/Yorkshire Carnegie, Newcastle Falcons, London Welsh, Doncaster Knights & Ealing Trailfinders Number 8 about his life in rugby so far. Ollie takes us through his time as a young man coming through the Carnegie academy, and being part of an England U20 setup which included British & Irish Lions superstars like the Vunipola's, Owen Farrell, George Ford & Elliot Daly. He then had to find his feet at Tynedale rugby club before Dean Richards offered him a chance at Newcastle Falcons, who he helped to the Championship title in the 2012/13 season. The following year he was promoted again, this time with London Welsh where he tells us how the underdogs were able to topple the much more fancied Bristol to get to the Premiership. As a veteran of Championship rugby Ollie gives some fantastic insight into how the league has developed during his time there, why he thinks it has gotten worse since the removal of the playoffs, and how he thinks it can still thrive even if ring-fencing is brought in.
Really enjoyed catching up with former Manchester United, Leeds, Sheffield United and Watford former professional footballer Danny Webber. Danny is still involved in football as he does a lot of media work for MUTV. It's safe to say that he is very busy as he is also a football agent, a football coach and dabbles in property too. Being a football agent takes Danny across the world; it was refreshing to hear that he has a well-rounded approach to taking care of his clients - he assists with not only their on the field performance but also their wellbeing. He draws on his own experiences during his career and in his life to assist his clients. During this episode we discussed the former England U20's career as a footballer and how he transitioned away from football into other career paths. Enjoy!
In this very special episode, Rob talks to father-son coaches, Keith and David Meyer, the co-authors of ‘Gold Dust’, one of the hottest titles on the market right now due to its practical wisdom and inspiring message of empowerment for all aspiring coaches. Keith and David discuss their thought process behind the book, the ongoing power of their relationship, and the respective journeys that have led them to this point in their careers. KEY TAKEAWAYS As a player, you can impact the game, which can impact the souls of others. But as a coach, we can make lasting change to people’s lives. Writing a book, or committing to any kind of creative project, takes the same will and determination we use in coaching. It is a practice of discipline. Mentors are the key to the unlocking of the cumulative knowledge of generations of creativity. Mentorship and coaching is the only true way of ensuring our ideals stay live. When coaching, we need to look for opportunities to enhance those in our care, and not fix something that isn’t broken. Fathers can learn from sons as effectively as sons from their fathers. Education can come from those younger than us. We need to be receptive to the lessons provided by youth. BEST MOMENTS ’Crisis also means opportunity’ ‘Coaching is the next best thing to playing; but it is the next best thing’ ‘We need to go in with respect, and the intention to help’ ‘You can do anything you set your mind to' VALUABLE RESOURCES Leader Manager Coach Podcast Gold Dust by David & Keith Mayer ABOUT THE GUESTS Keith Coached ex England Internationals while working at three highly successful Academies in England and is currently coaching at Liverpool FC’s prestigious Academy.
