He is a former Royal Military Police Reserve. He started in the London Regiment and decided to cross over to the RMP TA at Brixton. In 2003 the war in Iraq meant that his unit was mobilised to Op Telic 3 and served there for 6 months. The tour that he went on was immediately after 6 members of 156 Provost Company were killed. He did his basic training took place at Pirbright which had been a guard's depot. All elements of the TA attended this centre so Will got to meet members from other regiments. Basic training changed over time to make them battle ready. This training gave him good grounding for his work in Ukraine. We discuss recruitment within the armed forces and the demise of recruitment by outsourcing to private companies. Will went to Chilwell to prepare for deployment to Iraq and was then bussed to Germany to wait for transport to Iraq. As they waited, they were given additional training in driving and weapons handling which will found invaluable. Will and his colleagues took a direct flight in a military chartered aircraft to Basra. Being part of Rover Group meant that Will operated as an escort and driver. Will recalls incidents where there was contact with the enemy. We discuss fatalities and Op Minimise and the fall of Nasaria. As the fall took place Will was told that the was likely to be held back and the demob date was on hold. However, this changed position changed ad having been de-kitted he was placed on an aircraft and flew back to Cyprus and then to Brize Norton in the UK. He was transported back by bus to Nottingham and sent home! He arrived back to Paddington wearing his desert combats and having to prepare adjusting back to civvie street without any decompression. Will found the transition difficult and this took several months before life normalised. In later year Will met and married his wife who is Polish. They relocated from the UK to northern Poland. At the commencement of the Ukraine Russia war there was a drive to find military equipment. Utilising the website army rumour service www.arrse.co.uk by the end of 2022 Will was invited to take part in the convoy to the frontline hand delivering much needed supplies to the troops. He has been to the Donbas and other areas that have been ravaged by war.He spent time with the fighting drone unit. The skills displayed are incredible. At one point he was 3k from the zero line. Hello Rank Squad! We're back (and icing our league previews series for a week) to take a look at the big storylines dominating the Premier League transfer landscape ahead of the transfer window closing on Friday. Dean walks us through the headlines for each of the Premier League's top eight from last year - Arsenal's search for a forward, Manchester City's desire for an Alvarez replacement, Manchester United's central midfield hole, Chelsea's mass exodus and striker hunt, Liverpool's market management strategy, Newcastle's remaining budget, Spurs' defensive reinforcement plan, and Aston Villa's early business meaning a potentially quiet end. There's a return for Things We Love, where Dean discusses Endrick getting off the mark for Real Madrid before star signing Kylian Mbappé and why the early clunkiness makes La Liga more exciting, whilst Jack is getting very enamoured with the new-look PSG, mostly because of the burgeoning relationship between Bradley Barcola and João Neves, who have exploded into the new season. And finally, Dean's Guru Wisdom has him sharing his opening experiences in the world of American Youth Soccer, where Dylan has taken some tentative first steps into becoming MLS' next shining light at the tender age of 6. It's Ranks!  And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?

Should Poch have picked him in the first place? Is it a lack of confidence? Is it selfishness. The pen and free kick miss were very, but was it also poor captaincy in letting him take them in the first place? Either way we should never boo a Blue.We say well done to the Super poodle and Ice Cold Palmer, but we should have been 4-0 up at half time and it should have been all over at 2-0 but…We discuss the Disasi honorary Frank Sinclair own goal. Could Sanchez have done anything with the equaliser? He was skittish again - why does Poch pick him when Petrovic is clearly better. In part two we discuss Poch's subs - too late or spot on? Mudryk deserved to stay on; Chuk; Madueke with two superb goals and Chilwell made a difference but how much difference did the red card make? Chelsea showed character to come back and win 4:2 even if they left it late? And with Gusto, Palmer, Jackson, Mudryk, Gallagher, Moises all getting better - are we turning a corner…slowly. His skill set is very broad.40' Ivan Tony is very unselfish. He has improved Maupay enormously. Makes unselfish runs and links up others players. Very good intuition. He has international class.43' Kane's understudy…Watkins for Gregor. Wide skill set. But Alyson thinks Tony, he has more arrogance and would step up to international football. Watkins is developing that arrogance.Man Utd and Rasmus Hojlund 47' Youngest player to score in 6 premier league games on the spin.48' Led the line brilliantly, looked confident, strong and with a strikers nose.51' Without his goals they had no chance of top four. Now…it looks possible, but not yet likely.Bad tackles53' This was Sheff United's chance to create hope of safety. Holgate blew it inside 20 minutes.56' Tough times for Chris Wilder. Palmer was outstanding and Chilwell is a class above. Well done too to Colwill and Disasi and while Sterling is frustrating he had a good game in reality. However, patience with Mudryk appears to be growing thin judging by the berating he got from Enzo and Chilwell and Broja continues to play with angst. But Chelsea reach their 18th Wembley final since 2000 which considering everything that's going this season is huge.In part two we welcome back Justin Hawthorne from Up The Villa for the Opposition View. Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Marco Worrall, Chelsea author and Gate 17 publisher to look back at Chelsea's 1-0 win over Fulham. In part one we discuss Chelsea's laborious first half AGAIN with too many touches and often poor ones; too slow in the build up and of course no idea how to hit the back of the net. Until referee Anthony Taylor shocked the entire world by awarding Chelsea a penalty at the end of the half, which Cole Palmer put away for his 9th goal of the season. The second half was much better with more energy, pressing and more direct with both Sterling and Gallagher hitting the post. But Chelsea couldn't kill the game off and the last 10 minutes was a shambles, aided and abetted by Taylor and Keystone Kops defending, with stupid free kicks given away, running into defenders and wrong passes. At least we cheered the hoofs up field as Chelsea eventually saw the game out, but it was stressful! In part two we praise Petrovic who was quietly impressive again. Should he be Chelsea's No.1 keeper? Enzo was more dynamic and Caicedo did good terrier like work. Colwill had a decent game albeit not suited to the left back role. Just as well Chilwell came on with 23 minutes to go, but replacing Sterling as winger not Colwill at left back! A win is a win albeit a marginally ugly one but are there genuinely signs of encouragement and improvement? The stats don't lie. And what was Frank Lampard sitting next to Todd Boehly all about? ; Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Tony Glover to look back at a mad match against the Hatters last Saturday. In part one we ask did Poch get the line upright as Chelsea made a eally good start but a terrible finish. For once goals were not the problem - Palmer is different class and a great finish from Madueke with a great build up too. Jackson divided opinion but got kicked a lot, played some good balls through tracked back and defended well too. He looks better out wide than up front. Broja on the other hand…In part two we look at the second half where Chelsea went all Dracula, with Chong and Doughty outstanding as Luton could have scored 4 or 5. Silva was the reason they didn't. He's still a cut above but does he need better than Disasi or Badiashile next to him. Perhaps Colwill when Chilwell returns?Petrovic was superb again making some good saves and kicking long; a great tactical move to negate Luton which worked until Luton went wide. But did Poch get it wrong with his subs and game management? Is there a hint of Spursyness about how we let teams back in?However, we won which is what it's about and was much needed. Chelsea are not far off European places, the season is not over yet with injured players to return and other teams have poor form and injuries (Utd and Newcastle). Will Chelsea improve and gel more in 2024?In part three we say thank fuck 2023 is over, recall the best and worst moments and ask how bad was it? We wrap up looking ahead to what 2024 might bring for Chelsea. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The Cannon Stats podcast is back with a full slate of things to cover. Chelsea Preview* Chelsea are still dealing with quite a few injuries. Looks like James is a doubt, Borja a doubt, Chilwell out. How will that effect the lineups for both teams?* What to make of their metrics. Good numbers, bad results, easy schedule* They are 4th in expected points, and ranked as the 5th best team in the Premier League in projection model ratings, looking at only this season's data they are tied with Tottenham as the 6th best team.* Adjusted for the strength of the schedule they have played they are 7th.* How should Arsenal line up?Eddie and ToneyThis topic feels a bit never-ending but I did add to it with a look into this on the newsletter. Arteta was also asked about the striker situation and if he would like an out and out ‘Number Nine' with Arsenal."I think having players with different qualities gives you different options and it is always related to the opponent, what behaviors they have, and what other players you have around that number nine.If you have midfielders as wingers wanting the ball to feet, a nine that wants to come to feet, and attacking midfielders that are more holding midfielders, you don't have any threat. If you have a nine that wants to come forward, attacking midfielders are constantly threatening the last line, proper wingers - then it becomes a different threat. You have players in the last line that can progress the play, do you have players in the last line that can link those pockets and make the runs that attract central defenders? It depends a lot on the qualities of all the players - you can't just isolate the nine, you have to see the whole thing; how he connects and what kind of threats and things that you do.Surely if you don't have a big nine inside the box, you lose something. If you're going to start crossing with your full-backs you're going to probably have an issue. But there are many ways to attack and depending on the opponent, maybe that option is better than another one."Last if you are in the area, you should look to join the Midwest Meet Up in the Twin Cities. Adam will look to be there, along with Elliot and Paul from the Arsenal Vision Podcast. This is a public episode. Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Martin Wickham to look back at a horribly familiar defeat to Nottingham Forest. We discuss failing to finish AGAIN - although Chelsea played ok with creative intent, forward momentum, movement which is a change from last season, and Forest defended very well. Sterling was relatively poor and Gusto needs to learn how to cross; Jackson had a poor game but will get better or is he the new Salomon Kalou? We look at Pochettino's selection - he is playing 4 at the back not 3, but is Colwill a left back and is Chilwell a winger? Cole Palmer on his debut and Madueke looked good; Mudryk has a way to go yet; Enzo class and Caicedo improving. In part two we discuss what's the hate with Silva about? Would Pochettino consider a change in formation and selection – Sanchez: Chilwell, Silva, Disasi, Gusto/James: Enzo, Moises; Sterling, Palmer/Gallagher, Madueke; Jackson? With an average age of squad at 22.5 years the team has no experience at this level and it shows and will take time. With £1bn spent and no striker or creative midfielder and no tried and tested players is it a surprise we still find it hard to score? And we review the Transfer window - why are Clearlake going with youth rather than experience? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This week, Chelsea are top of the transfer targets with a brilliant run of fixtures on the horizon. Ever wondered how to decide between Turner and Onana or whether Baldock from Sheffield United is worth a spot in your lineup? This episode is a deep dive into game week two, where we pull apart the performances of Forest versus Sheffield United and Fulham versus Brentford. We predict a 1-1 draw for Forest and Sheffield and share why incorporating Mbuemo into your team could be a strategic move. You'll also get our insights on Wissa's value and the promise of Joao Pedro as a top striker. This week, we also turned our attention to the Fantasy Premier League. We dissected the potential of Liverpool players like Gakpo and Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Mohamed Salah, and navigated the affordability of players in the 5.5 to 7.5 bracket in midfield. We took a closer look at the fixtures of teams such as West Ham, Brighton, Wolves, Newcastle, Brentford, Fulham, Palace, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Luton, and Forest. You'll hear our thoughts on whether Richie is a smart buy for spurs and whether Chilwell is a smart transfer option. Our discussion went into overdrive as we evaluated Wolves' performance against Manchester United and Brighton's performance against Chelsea. We asked if the Wolves are as formidable as they seem and whether Brighton can keep up their good game. The debate got heated as we weighed in on hits versus the early wildcard, and we put Brighton players like March, Mitoma, and Estupinan under the microscope. Finally, we pored over the Spurs vs Man United match and the potential ripple effect of Angball, asking if switching Richie for Mitoma and Timber for Chilwell could result in more points. Stay tuned for an engaging and enlightening football discussion!

Not enough continuity or were players rested for Real? Kepa was excellent but other than that there was no leadership, no spine, no attack, no energy and fitness and no hope. Meanwhile Brighton were everything we are not – aggressive one touch football; going forward quickly with end product. With no sign of form turning around we ask can we still get relegated? In part two we discuss the crowd having enough of it all. And why four at the back? With Chelsea losing to lowly Wolves there was no new manager bounce. As ever in football, it's the hope that kills you. Maybe it's not the manager after all but the players who were out battled and lethargic. Are they fit enough or is this a mentality issue.
