Howdy herpsters! And welcome to Episode Twenty! My guest is Steve Marks from Windsor, Ontario. And at left we see composite photos of Steve engaged in tracking fox snakes. Steve and I have been buddies for a long while now, and I am happy to get him on the show and talking about his projects and passions, which are often one and the same thing. One of the things we talked about is the Herb Gray Eco-Highway conservation project which Steve has been a part of for many years. The man has taken a deep dive into fox snakes and I was happy to get him talking about it! I've also had the privilege of watching Steve radio-track one of his beloved study animals up in Windsor - the man has done a wonderful job in not only keeping fox snakes going in Windsor, but in future-proofing their populations as well. Steve is a well-traveled fellow and we covered some of his herp adventures in detail. I enjoyed our chat and didn't realize until near the end that we talked for nearly two hours! Wanna meet Steve? Come on down to Snake Road during Canadian Thanksgiving some time. Here are some links related to this episode: A wonderful blog post written by James Paterson about the Eco-Pass and other projects The Canadian Herpetological Society Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre, Steve's favorite herp charity TRIVIA: The teaser intro is borrowed from the 1941 film The Maltese Falcon, starring Humphrey Bogart and Mary Astor, and adapted from Dashiell Hammett's novel of the same name. I'm doing my best to bring back obscure phrases like "crackin' foxy" and "I won't play the sap for you!" And if you haven't already seen it, the Maltese Falcon is worth your time. Film noir murder mystery at its finest and heaps of obscure phrases. FUTURE SHOW NOTE: Speaking of obscure phrases, once again I am asking you to send me interesting herp jargon! Get those pithy phrases and clever words to me via the show email below, and we’ll get a future episode together from the results.! And as always, please keep the comments and suggestions coming! The show email is somuchpingle@gmail.com, and there’s also a So Much Pingle group on Facebook, for discussion, comments, feedback, suggestions, herp confessions. maltese falcons, tips for herping better, etc. Stay tuned for more episodes! And don’t forget to herp better! -Mike

We do all of this SOBER and usually in a garage (literally!) we call "the Mothership" cause it feels like you've come home! You don't have to be sober to come along for the ride, you just have to want your life to be better today than it was yesterday! www.twogirlsinagarage.com

Episode Twenty is a surprisingly wholesome theory, thanks to our special guest and his vast knowledge of world mythology and cultural symbols. Is Animal Crossing more than a superficially adorable plot-free time sink? Is the game perhaps the story of numerous animal spirits banding together to make a pleasant afterlife for an unfortunate child? It's more convincing than you might think!

We were strangely locked in for *most* of this episode and it might have just provided some of the most nerdy discussion we’ve ever had on the show! We continue on with Season Two of The Clone Wars as we discuss episodes 16-19 and veer off into incredibly nerdy talk of Star Wars spacecraft, the life expectancy of clone troopers, and the ultra-rare M4RZ3000 P33-P00P prototype stealth droid! Punky Brewster “Cherie Lifesaver” (19, January 1986) It’s Episode TWENTY of Very Special Television and we couldn’t have made it this far without you our loyal listeners!! To say thanks we decided to tackle one of the most requested episodes in our brief history. You asked for it and you got it - we tackled the most specialist of episodes with Punky Brewster “Cherie Lifesaver.” Need I say more? During an ill-fated game of hide and seek, Cherie (Cherie Johnson) makes the worst decision of her young life and hides in a discarded fridge in Punky’s (Soleil Moon Frye) junkyard/backyard. Since Allen (Casey Ellison) was such a wiseacre during CPR lessons, he’s as useless as Henry’s (George Gaynes) public storage unit full of stolen Nazi gold (allegedly). Punky and Margaux (Ami Foster) save the day using CPR and we all learn a valuable lesson about discarded Cold War Era household appliances. A Very Special Thank You to all you listeners out there and an extra special thanks to everyone who suggested we review this episode. We’re having a great time podcasting - we hope you enjoy listening just as much. In Episode 017, we spoke to Jim Hanas about the value and perhaps impracticality of today’s slush piles. This week, M. Rachel Branwen, editor of Slush Pile Magazine, was happy to talk about her thoughts on what the slush pile is really about, disagreeing with Hanas unapologetically. Welcome, welcome, welcome to Episode TWENTY of Slush Pile! We thank all of our listeners, writers, and guest speakers for supporting this podcast and its mission. We first launched Slush Pile at the end of March at the 2016 AWP Conference. We were thrilled with the enthusiastic response, yet confused athow many times people asked if we were related to Slush Pile Magazine, also debuting at 2016 AWP! We had never heard of this publication, so we hunted down their booth and were blown away by the ladder and a very tall stack of papers. Author Jonathan Weinert at Slush Pile Magazine's AWP booth We had the pleasure of meeting M. Rachel Branwen, Slush Pile Magazine’s founder and editor, and we invited her back to our booth for some boxed wine and great conversation! Then, we convinced her to come on air. M.Rachel Branwen is the editor of Slush Pile Magazine, the longtime senior reader of fiction at Harvard Review, and the former fiction editor of DigBoston. Her work has appeared in The Missouri Review, The Adirondack Review, The Millions, and elsewhere. She is fond of: bougainvillea, red wine, mashed potatoes, unexpected conversations with oversharing strangers, long road trips, learning new languages, walking up hills for exercise, the thesaurus, her dog (Nigel, a pug), and the movie "When Harry Met Sally." She dislikes:headaches, mosquitoes, and the sounds people make when they're chewing. Feel free to look her up on Facebook here, here, or on Twitter: @slushpilemag. In Episode 017, we spoke to Jim Hanas about the value and perhaps impracticality of today’s slush piles. This week, M. Rachel Branwen was happy to talk about her thoughts on what the slush pile is really about, disagreeing with Hanas unapologetically. Branwen tells us about the history of Slush Pile Magazine, “championing” and “curating” works that Branwen believes deserve the world’s attention. After explaining her magazine’s history, Branwen probed us for the history and executions of Painted Bride Quarterly. Kathy and Marion reminisce about their introduction to a group of people who work on magazines like Painted Bride Quarterly and Slush Pile Magazine simply for the love of literature. Then, we have veteran reader Tim Fitts and brand-new reader Sara Aykit discuss the democratic nature of PBQ’s voting that not only empowers young readers, but keeps the perspectives of older readers fresh. M. Rachel Branwen embodies the pleasure of reading poetry and short stories like they are the only thing that matters. We had a great time discussing her more optimistic views on slush piles and the “staggeringly interesting” Slush Pile Magazine. Check out the Issues Marion raves about here and here! We would love to know how you feel about slush piles: are you Team Hanas or Team Branwen? Let us know on our Facebook page or @PaintedBrideQ with #TeamHanas or #TeamBranwen! Thank you for listening and read on! Present at the Editorial Table: Kathleen Volk Miller Marion Wrenn Tim Fitts Sara Aykit M. Rachel Branwen Production Engineer: Joe Zang

Well here we are at Episode Ten of the Puckfortland podcast! Jake Tong was here for our very first podcast and we promised to bring him back for the tenth. We caught up with all the usual suspects and give you an insiders perspective on what it's like to attend a Cross Crusade Race in PDX. Jake and I run into Elite men and women racers on the starting line and get race advice and feelings from local racer Sean BOB Corey from Breadwinner Cycles. Thanks to all of you for the love and support and we will be back with Jake Tong for Episode Twenty. Thanks Jake!
