These verses are vitallyimportant to the unity of the church, to the growth of the believer, and to thewitness of the church in the community. That's why we're taking so longcontinuing to look at this passage of Scripture. Remember the leaders of thechurch are told to lead and teach the people to grow in their Christianmaturity, to grow in faith, and to understand how that as a body of believersthat are diverse, that have different opinions, have different ideas, maybeeven different cultural backgrounds, that it is vitally important that they loveone another, and care for one another.  Readthe New Testament. Read the book of First John. Read all the Epistles. Almostall of them speak about this love for one another. Jesus, in His last words inthe upper room were that His disciples might be one. His prayer was that theywould be one (John 17). That they would be one in Christ, one in unity, one inlove, caring for one another. Then they would be a witness to the world aroundthem. That's why this passage in Ephesians 4 is so important. Now,one of the things that will happen whenever God's at work, you can rest assuredthat the devil is also at work and he has his angels, agents of false teachersto lead people astray. Today, my friend, the internet and churches are full offalse teachers who would cause people to follow after them with false doctrines.That's why Paul, Peter and others writers of the New Testament wrote aboutthese people. Even in the first century church, Jude wrote about them. John, warnedof them in his epistles of 1st and 2nd John. Almost everyNew Testament Apostle, teacher, leader warned about these false teachers. Evenhere in Ephesians 4, where Paul is saying to build up the people in the unityof the faith he goes on to say in verse 14 that we should “no longer bechildren tossed to and fro”. Tossed to and fro by what? Because we would be“carried about by every wind of doctrine by the trickery of men and cunningcraftiness of deceitful plotting”, by the false teachers. In Acts 20:28-31,Paul in his last visit to the church at Ephesus, warned the elders: “Thereforetake heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit hasmade you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with Hisown blood. For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come inamong you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up,speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.  In2 Peter 2:1-3, Peter warned the believers he's writing to about these false teachers:“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will befalse teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, evendenying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. Andmany will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth willbe blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words…”.  Like Paul, he is warning us not to be deceivedby false teachers with their false doctrine. Acharacteristic of a Christlike Christian is that he is not only bathed in thetruth, living in the truth, walking in the truth, but he is stable. He issteadfast. He's not tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. Everybody thatcomes along with some new teaching about this or that or especially about theLord Jesus Christ and who He is. My friend, you must be careful what you'relistening to and make sure you look at everything in light of the context ofthe entire word of God. Then listen to faithful teachers and preachers who havestayed the course over many many years. Again,these are very important words because the devil is at work to destroy theunity of the church with false teachers. We must be aware of them. They'reeverywhere. So be aware, don't be children about this danger. Grow up, listento the truth, and walk in the truth.

These individuals, though appearing spiritually authoritative, are likened to waterless springs and storm-driven mists—promising spiritual refreshment but delivering only disappointment and danger. The most severe judgment awaits them not merely for their sin, but for their deliberate rejection of the truth they once knew, making their final state worse than their initial unbelief. The passage concludes with vivid metaphors—the dog returning to its vomit and the sow wallowing in the mire—to underscore their enslavement to sin and the tragic irony of those who, having known the way of righteousness, turn back to their former corruption. The overarching message is a call to vigilance, self-examination, and faithfulness, warning that greater knowledge brings greater accountability and that true freedom is found not in self-rule, but in submission to Christ.

2 Peter 2:17-22 November 23, 2025 PM.2 Peter chapter 2 ends reminding us about the allure of false teachers and their apostasy. Their words are empty, they pray on weak Christians, and they promise the opposite of what they actually give. They had a so-called knowledge of God but were overtaken by the world. Peter takes false teachers very seriously, and so should we.

 Jim Osman exposes the greed and exploitation of false teachers who use plastic words to merchandise believers. These deceivers appeal to covetousness while masking sensual desires and avarice behind fabricated doctrines. The greed and exploitation of false teachers manifest through fraudulent ministries that prey on vulnerable souls, promising prosperity while extracting wealth. In our passage, Peter continues to address false teachers by raising a question that many of us have: How is it that, as false teachers seem to be succeeding, it appears God remains silent while they distort God's Word and lead people astray? Peter will answer this question and show us that their judgment is coming soon. He will also equip his readers to recognize a false teacher by their character and teachings. 

Pastor Dustin explained that gratitude is far more than a feeling or a seasonal practice—it's a way of life that has the power to reshape how we see everything. When we fix our attention on what God has given us, complaining becomes harder and our hearts begin to shift. The 25 Days of Gratitude Challenge was designed not as a short-term exercise, but as a catalyst for lasting transformation. Changing our patterns is difficult, but it's essential if we want to live in the fullness God intends.Just as understanding flight changes the way we see airplanes, encountering Christ changes the way we see our entire lives. Paul experienced this firsthand. Once a Pharisee who valued status and outward achievement, his meeting with Jesus completely reframed his perspective. Writing to a culture obsessed with honor and appearance, Paul reminded the church in Corinth—and us—that Christ came in humility and suffering, not worldly glory.Before Christ, we tend to see our time, talents, and treasures as ours alone. But in Christ, everything becomes a gift to steward. Our time is entrusted to us, our abilities are on loan from God, and our resources become tools for His kingdom. Stories from people in our own church, like Roger and Jason, show how talents and resources can be used to serve others and give glory to God.This matters because we are called to be Christ's ambassadors—people who carry His message to a world longing for hope. We don't save anyone; only Christ does. But we are invited to stand in the gap, pointing others back to Him. Generosity, then, isn't simply an obligation. These unbelievers are driven by unrestrained immorality, marked by sensuality throughout Scripture.The Charismatic movement provides the largest environment where such teachers flourish, promoting unbridled emotionalism and doctrinal looseness. This is the last message from 2 Peter 2. We have discussed false teachers and heretics for the last 4 weeks. And this message is just as important. The focus in this study is to look at the influence of false teachers on believers. Heretics are not doing what they do by accident they come to destroy, to exploit and to promise false freedom. It is up to each of us to ensure that we are testing everything and comparing it to the scriptures.

As Peter directly addresses false teachers, one wonders whythe Lord allows them to infiltrate the church. The Christian life is hardenough in dealing with the world, our flesh, and the devil; now we need to dealwith false teachers as well. How do we discern between a false and a trueteacher?
