Engage with scripture readings, heartfelt devotionals, and collective prayers that draw you into the heart of God's love. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, where every day we journey together through the pages of Scripture, letting God's living Word guide and shape our hearts. In today's episode for September 28th, host and Bible reading coach Hunter invites listeners from around the world to warm their hearts by the fire of God's love. We dive into Zechariah chapters 1 through 3, witnessing powerful visions of hope, divine restoration, and the passionate love God has for His people. Then, we turn to Luke 11, where Jesus teaches on prayer, challenges false religion, and calls us into genuine light—reminding us to ensure that the “light” we cling to is truly from God. As the episode unfolds, Hunter reflects on the importance of stepping out of the shadows and allowing God's radiant love to fill our lives, warning against mistaking tradition or self-righteousness for true light. With heartfelt prayer and encouragement, listeners are reminded of the immeasurable love and grace available to all who seek after God. Whether you're new to the Daily Radio Bible or a longtime listener, today offers fresh inspiration to walk in the floodlight of God's love and truth. TODAY'S DEVOTION: Bring on the floodlights. If all the world's a stage, then I want better lighting. That's what an actor once said, and there's something to that for all of us. On a stage, actors seek out the light; if they're in the shadows, no one sees the story. In the life of faith, we need to do the same. We need to step out of the shadows and turn our faces to the true light—the light of God's love. Jesus urges us in Luke 11, “Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.” There are many competing lights in our lives. False lights, religious traditions, self-righteousness, fear-based theologies—all these things pose as light, but in truth, they can keep us locked in darkness, far from the warmth of God's love. Even the Pharisees were caught in this trap: careful with tithes and rituals on the outside, but inside full of greed and indifference to justice and love. Jesus doesn't scold them for vengeance's sake, but out of a desperate, passionate desire for them to truly see, to be roused from their blindness so that the light might finally break through. Friend, the light of Christ has come into the darkness of this world. God's love has shined, unconditional and unrelenting. Jesus is inviting us not just to admire the light, but to fill our eyes with it, to let his presence illuminate every shadow, to let his love reach into every dark corner in us. Queen Sheba and the people of Nineveh responded when they saw the light of God's wisdom and mercy. Religion and pride and fear can eclipse it—but the invitation stands: step into the light. Check your heart—are you following the true light or surrendering to shadows? Let us keep our focus on Jesus, not on ourselves, our accomplishments, or traditions. Let us open ourselves to the radiant, floodlighting love of God. His light has come into our darkness. He is making all things new. So breathe deep, step boldly, and walk in the warmth of his love. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. What happens when you stop pouring all your energy into someone else and start investing it back into yourself? In a healthy relationship, your self-care is welcomed and even celebrated. Your partner enjoys the space to recharge too, and both of you come back stronger. But in a relationship with a covert narcissist, pulling back your supply—the constant attention, caretaking, and emotional labor—can trigger explosions, implosions, and childlike tantrums. In this episode, Renee explores: What “supply” really means in covert narcissistic relationships The stark difference between healthy partners and covert narcissists when you focus on self-care Real stories of explosions (“So you don't care about me anymore?!”) and implosions (the dreaded silent treatment) How pulling back gently can expose the genuine nature of your relationship Practical ways to reclaim your energy without cruelty, only clarity If your relationship crumbles the moment you take care of yourself, it's not love—it's control. Your worth is not found in endlessly giving yourself away. Your worth is already inside of you. ✨ Takeaway: Self-care is not betrayal. It's the clearest test of whether your relationship is mutual love or one-sided survival. Your story matters, and you deserve to be heard without judgment. Rule Number 2 Self-condemnation and abhorrency for sin consistent with gospel justification and peace — The nature of gospel assurance — What is consistent with it — What are the effects of it. A deep sense of the evil of sin, of the guilt of man's own sin, is no way inconsistent with gospel assurance of acceptance with God through Christ, and of forgiveness in him.

Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, where together we journey through the pages of Scripture. In today's episode, host Hunter invites us to reflect on September 14th's readings from Ezekiel 36–37, Psalm 110, and Revelation 19. As we listen, we are drawn into vivid images of restoration, hope, and the powerful promises of God—a valley of dry bones brought back to life, a unified people, and a vision of the one who is the Resurrection and the Life. Hunter reminds us that, even in times of adversity and doubt, God's purpose remains: to reveal His true nature as a loving and powerful King who brings life where there was once only death and despair. Through prayer and thoughtful reflection, this episode encourages us to see ourselves and our world through God's eyes—understanding that what He offers us in Christ is a gift of new life, hope, and joy, not because we earned it, but because of His immeasurable love. Settle in as we draw encouragement from Scripture, join in heartfelt prayers, and remember together that we are deeply loved by God. TODAY'S DEVOTION: TODAY'S DEVOTION: People have the wrong impression about God. And God is going to correct that. When people see the suffering and hardship of God's people, they have the mistaken impression that God isn't good or that he's not powerful enough to help them when they really need it. They're wrong about that. They have the wrong impression. But God's going to help us all see, like he helped Ezekiel see. It's a vision in a valley of dry, dismembered, dead, lifeless bones, skeletons littering the valley. God desires to correct our wrong impression by impressing us with this amazing vision. For at his word, God resurrects these bones into living, breathing bodies. He restores them to life. And God is clear that it's not because they deserve it, but because he wants them and us to have the right impression of him. He wants us and the whole world to know what he's truly like. He's like David, Ezekiel tells us, a good shepherd and a loving and powerful king. But he's far better than David. It's important that we have the right impression. He is the one who was raised from the dead. He is the one who offers all of us dead, lifeless people resurrection, life. When we look at him, we get the right impression. We understand fully what God is truly like. We see what God is offering us through his Son. He offers us life, hope, joy, love—the life we've always wanted, a life we didn't earn, but one that we have received. This is what can happen if we get the right impression. May God impress you today with who he is and who you have become. He is the resurrection and the life, and this is what he has done. He has resurrected and given life to the dead. First Corinthians 15 says, "For as in Adam, all die, even so, in Christ all shall be made alive." God has breathed life into the sons and daughters of Adam. This is God's vision. This is what God was up to in Christ. This is what he has finished and completed. This is the impression God wants us to see and understand. And it's all a gift from the God of love. May God open our eyes to see him, what he's done, and what we have become. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. Part two of three of my series on “Learning the Self,” one of my Ten Fields of Zen. Last episode I discussed why we “study the self” in Zen, and what “self” we're talking about if the self is empty of any inherent nature! Now I move on to what is meant by “Learning the Self." This part of our practice has two essential aspects. Karma Work is taking care of your Phenomenal Self - becoming intimately familiar with your own body and mind and learning to live in accord with the Dharma. Realization of your True Nature involves seeking out, questioning, and seeing through your belief in an inherent self-nature, thereby awakening to your True Nature. In this episodes I begin my explanation of Karma Work.

102: How To Focus On Yourself - Marcus Aurelius, Nietzsche, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Sartre, Camus

Philosophies for Life

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 30, 2025 28:05

In this podcast we will be talking about how to focus on yourself from the wisdom of 6 different philosophers and philosophies for life. The 6 philosophers we will be talking about for finding purpose in this video are Albert Camus (Absurdism), Nietzsche (Existentialism), Sartre (Existentialism), Marcus Aurelius (Stoicism), Lao Tzu (Taoism) and  Buddha (Buddhism). Diogenes, an ancient philosopher with the spirit of a wild beast and the wit of a poet, saw through the illusion of civilization. Where others pursued wealth and honor, he saw vanity. So, he rejected it all, choosing a life most would call madness but which he knew was true freedom. He didn't just talk about philosophy—he lived it, stripped down to its rawest form. He owned nothing but a cloak, a staff, and a ceramic jar he called home. While others debated virtue in grand halls, he lived it under the open sky. He mocked the powerful, exposed the foolishness of the so-called wise, and reduced life to its barest essence: harmony with nature, free from the absurd expectations of society. Then came the moment that made him immortal. One day, Alexander the Great, the most powerful man alive, stood before him and declared, “Ask for anything, and I shall grant it.” Now, most would have begged for riches or status. Diogenes barely looked up and said, “Move aside, you're blocking my sunlight.” Think about that for a moment: The conqueror of nations stood powerless before a man who wanted nothing. So who, then, was truly free? Most of us aren't. From birth, we're shaped by the world—told what to value, what to chase, what to fear. We measure ourselves by status, companion, and approval. And in an age of endless screens and constant judgment, this enslavement has only deepened. How do we break free? Diogenes didn't ask us to live like him—he wanted us to see like him. To strip life down to what truly matters, to stop chasing what others say is important, and to reclaim the freedom to be ourselves, without apology or permission. So what's next? Turn inward. Let go of borrowed desires. Stand firm in your own life. The world will always whisper its demands—but whether we listen is entirely up to us. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible, and thanks for joining us on this seventh day of August, day 220 in our journey through the Scriptures. I'm Hunter, your host and Bible reading coach, here to spend some meaningful time with you in God's Word. Today, we're delving into Zephaniah chapters 1 through 3 and John chapter 9. Together, we'll explore powerful themes: God's judgment, restoration, and the surprising ways He reveals Himself, even in our darkest moments. As we read about the dire warnings to Jerusalem and the miracle of the man born blind, we're invited to let go of false ideas about God and discover His true nature—one of love, restoration, and self-giving grace. Stay tuned as we open our hearts, let the Bible direct our gaze to Jesus, and pray for eyes to see the light of the world anew. TODAY'S DEVOTION: He opens our eyes to the truth of who God is. What is God to do with a world trapped in darkness, unable to see, fumbling after answers and lost beneath lies about who he is? Many of us, even those who have walked with God, labor under the false assumption that God is distant, angry, and waiting to punish us, that his aim is to make an example out of us for our sins or our parents' mistakes. But when Jesus steps onto the scene, he is the light of the world, shining in our darkness—a living answer to every doubt and misbelief about God's heart. We witness this firsthand in John 9, as Jesus bends to the earth, forms mud from his own spit and the dust, and spreads it across a blind man's eyes. What was lifeless and incapable of sight is remade by the hands of God, and suddenly the impossible happens—this man sees. The very power of God is revealed in this healing, but it's not just a physical miracle. This is a sign. Jesus is showing us what he longs to do for each of us: to remove the scales from our eyes, to free us from crippling untruths about the Father, and to welcome us into the radiant light of his presence. Yet, so often, lies keep us bound in darkness. Religion might paint God in the colors of our own fears, as if he is more interested in punishment than in restoration, as if he is more judge than Father. But Jesus shows us something utterly different—self-giving, radically forgiving, co-suffering love. When we look at Jesus, we are seeing the heart of the Father. As he told Philip: “If you've seen me, you've seen the Father.” There is no shadow side to God, no surprise cruelty or hidden rage, only the faithful love we see in Jesus. Are you weary of the darkness, of striving and fearing separation? Let Jesus open your eyes today. Let him show you who God really is: the one who heals, who welcomes, who sings over you with joy. You are not separate or abandoned; you're invited into his light, already embraced in his love. This is the prayer I carry for my own soul, for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And it is the prayer I hold for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord of life, you have awakened me again to the gift of this day. You go before me, walk beside me and dwell within me. Let me walk slowly in your presence. May I resist the hurried spirit of this world and instead breathe deep of your peace. Open my eyes to beauty, my ears to your voice and my heart to the quiet work of grace. Help me not to strive, but to abide, not to achieve, but to receive today. Let my words carry your kindness, my actions reflect your mercy. My thoughts be anchored in your truth that I am yours and you are with me. Amen. And now, as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.   OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL

Christ's Entry into Jerusalem and the Divided ReceptionJesus approaches Jerusalem, the city meant to embody peace and God's presence. Although pilgrims herald him as the Messiah, Christ knows his fate: rejection. This tension between celebration and impending suffering highlights the irony of the moment: the city that should welcome its King is blind to his true mission. Christ has predicted his rejection, death, and resurrection, and as he rides in, we are reminded that his mission is not triumphant conquest but humble submission to God's redemptive plan as the king who lays down his life.Israel's Failed History and Christ's MissionWe can think that this is a problem with current Israel. However, this is a consistent problem with God's covenant people. Joshua was one of the best leaders Israel had, but even he failed to inquire of the Lord and was deceived by the Gibeonites. David was their greatest king, but he went through a season like the pagan kings. These examples illustrate how even the most celebrated leaders could not secure true peace or obedience. When Paul tells us that Israel, is likened to a pedagogue (strict tutor), we learn how much we need a redeemer. Christ enters not as another failed leader, but one who comes to redeem by taking away the root problem: sin. He can only do this as the true sacrifice. Jesus Cleanses the Temple and Confronts False SecurityChrist's clearing of the temple is a deliberate, prophetic act. He quotes Isaiah and Jeremiah, calling out how the temple has become a “den of robbers”—a place of false security rather than true worship. This wasn't just a rebuke of corrupt commerce; it was a declaration that the people used religion as a safe zone while their hearts remained far from God. Jesus reveals that the temple was intended to be a house of prayer for all nations, but had become a hiding place for those rejecting true repentance and holiness. The True Nature of Seeking ChristThe message concludes with a confrontation between Jesus and the religious leaders. While the crowds hang on his words, the scribes and priests seek his destruction. This contrast reminds us that not all "seeking" is sincere. Some seek to listen and follow; others, to control or eliminate. Christ invites us to receive him humbly, not by mere tradition or external acts, but through deep submission to his His Spirit through His Word. His mission is to sow peace, not wield force. So we must ask: do we receive him as King, or resist him from a place of false security? Do we stand over him dictating how he must serve or do we sit beneath him eager to serve?

Read Online“You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your being, with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27A scribe asked Jesus what he needed to do to inherit eternal life. Jesus asked the scribe what the Law of Moses taught. The above line was the scribe's response. He was essentially quoting Deuteronomy 6:4, which was a common prayer prayed by the Jews and seen as a summary of the entire Law of Moses as found in the Ten Commandments.Notice that this summary of the Law does not present a negative prohibition such as “Thou shalt not…” Instead, it is a positive command stating, “Thou shalt love…” Love is the fulfillment of the Law of the Old Testament, as well as the fulfillment of the New Law of Christ. When we love God with our whole being, that love overflows upon all of God's creatures, including our neighbor. In this Gospel, the scribe goes on to ask Jesus who His neighbor is. Jesus responds by telling the Parable of the Good Samaritan. In that parable, there was a man beaten and left for dead on the side of the road. A priest and a Levite passed by and ignored the man. But a Samaritan passed by and took care of the man, bringing him to an inn and vowing to pay for his recovery. The story concludes by the Samaritan being identified as the one who acted as a neighbor to the victim.Traditionally, the victim of the robbers in this story has been seen as Adam. Adam represents fallen humanity. The Samaritan represents Jesus who cared for fallen humanity, healed us of sin and provided for our every need. Therefore, according to this parable, Jesus has acted as a neighbor to us, and we must love Him as we love ourselves. But Jesus also says, “Go and do likewise.” This is a commission to fallen humanity, now healed of sin, to go forth to others, acting as Jesus Himself, bringing the healing grace they have been given and bestowing it upon others generously.Sometimes we can see love as a feeling or emotion. Though love is often accompanied by certain emotions and feelings, love is much more. It is an action. In this parable, if the Samaritan simply looked upon the victim and felt sorry for him, had compassion for him but then moved on, he would not have shown love. The love of charity is an action and requires much of us. If we are to fulfill this first and greatest commandment of love of God and neighbor, then we cannot wait until we feel like loving to act. Instead, we must act now and not hesitate. This is love.Reflect, today, upon the true nature of love. Love, in its most elevated form, is the choice to do what is best for others—to help free them from sin and to be an instrument of God's providence in their lives. It's a participation in the very love that God has shown us in Christ Jesus by giving His life for our salvation. We are all called to devote ourselves to this same form of selfless and sacrificial love. Doing so is a requirement for the glorious sharing in eternal life.My loving Lord, You have given everything to fallen humanity. You have freed us from sin and provided for all of our needs. You have acted as a true neighbor in every way. Please give me the grace I need to imitate You and to participate in the love You have for others. May I truly act and never hesitate to bestow on others the charitable love to which I am called. Jesus, I trust in You.Image: African depiction of "The Good Samaritan" by Tim Kubacki, license CC BY 2.0Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2025 My Catholic Life! Inc.
