Send us a textThe Midnight Calls is a denim and leather Rock & Roll outfit from Chicago. The band is fronted by Spain-born singer, Taran de Pablos and features guitarists Adam Arling (The Last Vegas, Urge Overkill, Warrior Soul) and Tony McQuaid (Loudmouth, Frank Bang & the Secret Stash), bassist Sean Barnes and drummer Chuck Harling. Their music is heavily influenced by the blues-infused sounds of classic bands like Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones or AC/DC. With a recipe based on grooves, hooks, and loud guitars as the main ingredients, The Midnight Calls are not reinventing the Rock & Roll wheel, but rather rolling it down the road with the swagger and style that you would expect from road-tested musicians that have toured the US and Europe a few times over. We were fortunate to have them in the studio to hear about their success and talk about their new single So Cold.Support the showPodcast edited by Paul Martin.Theme song courtesy of M&R Rush.www.rocknrollchicagopodcast.com

WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST AMPLFYING WISCONSIN MUSIC EPISODE 112 Jenna Kopitske   Jenna Kopitske is a drummer, pianist, and composer who has appeared at a wide range of venues throughout the state of Wisconsin for many years. She recently moved to Nashville, TN, and after a few months she picked up her first national tour drumming with country artist Waylon Nihipali to Washington, Nevada, and Hawaii. While in Nashville, she recently got endorsed by her favorite cymbal company, Paiste Cymbals. She operates her own business teaching piano and drum lessons as well as studying contemporary country, classic rock, blues, gospel, and pop music. As a performer, Ms. Kopitske has gained experience in both live and studio settings. She is a freelance musician who has recorded many projects on drum-set, percussion, and piano in an array of styles. Additionally, Ms. Kopitske composes and licenses her own music. Commonly compared to the late piano composer George Winston, she similarly writes in the style of new age-contemporary with a wide, uplifting, and ambient nature. She began composing at a young age but released her debut EP in 2018 entitled Unheard Of. In 2021, she released her sophomore piano EP entitled Pride & Joy which sets the mood for easy listening and the blues. A year later, she released her first single entitled “Losing Light” with a sync intended focus. She plans to record her third studio album later in 2023. Ms. Kopitske recently received her BM studying music industry with an emphasis of music business at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. She studied percussion at the university with Dr. Alison Shaw and Marisol Kuborn. Prior to graduation she completed a hybrid music publishing/sync internship at Primary Wave Music Publishing who are based in Los Angeles and New York City. Ms. Kopitske is now in the process of pitching her most well-known compositions “Cascade” and “Losing Light” to be used in film and television. Besides drumming on tour, Ms. Kopitske is also anticipating a career as a piano composer in the film scoring industry.    Performance Experience Waylon Nihipali, drummer of Nashville original and cover country band 2023-current • Performed in Washington, Hawaii, and Nevada at Walla Walla Music Fest, Grand Naniloa Crown Room, Grand Wailea Molokini Gardens, Waikiki Beachcomer Hotel, Makawao Stampede Rodeo, Barking Sands Navy Base, Stoney's Rockin' Country in Vegas Madison Wolfe, drummer of Nashville original country band 2023-current • Performed in Tennessee at the Ainsworth in Nashville Jonny T-Bird & the MP's, drummer of blues band 2019-2022 • Performed in Wisconsin at Summerfest, Turner Hall Ballroom, Osthoff Resort, Gibson Music Hall, Harley-Davidson, blues festivals, awards shows, and opened for Halestorm, YUNG BLEU, American Idol winner Chayce Beckham, Lilith Czar, Blanco Brown, Frank Bang of Buddy Guy Appleton Alliance Church, drummer of worship band 2021-2022 • Performed in Wisconsin at Appleton Alliance Church University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, percussionist and pianist 2019-2022 • Performed in Wisconsin in Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Titan Steel, Percussion Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Handbell Choir Jenna Kopitske, original new age-contemporary and blues pianist 2014-current • Performed in Wisconsin at Mile of Music, Osthoff Resort, Paper Valley Hotel, Suicide Awareness Walk, Houdini Plaza, Riverview Gardens, Grand Meridian, Appleton Farmers Market, Dogtoberfest, Whistler's Knoll, weddings, nursing homes, and awards shows Appleton Rock School, drummer and keyboardist of various rock cover bands 2013-2019 • Performed in Wisconsin at Summerfest, Weidner Center, Appleton Performing Arts Center, Lambeau Field, Gibson Music Hall, Octoberfest, Electric City Experience, Cheesefest, WBAY-TV Cerebral Palsy Telethon, benefits, local coffee shops Recording Projects “Losing Light” original new age-contemporary single on piano 2022 • Composed, recorded, and mixed piano at home studio in Wisconsin, mastered at Rock Garden Studio with Marc Golde in Appleton, WI “Play Time” original blues album by Jonny T-Bird & the MP's 2022 • Wrote and recorded drums, wurlitzer, organ, and auxiliary percussion at Hamtone Audio in Milwaukee, WI “Pride & Joy” sophomore original piano album 2021 • Solo piano album recorded at UW Oshkosh Recording Studio in Oshkosh, WI “Fighting Monsters” on Christian rapper Jon the Revalaytor's single 2019 • Composed and tracked drums at Cherry Pit Studios “O Come All Ye Faithful” on Tim Dorsey's Christmas album 2019 • Wrote and recorded drums at OpenwindO Studios in Greenville, WI “Unheard Of” debut original piano album 2018 • Solo piano album engineered at OpenwindO Studios Honors/Awards Nominee for Pianist of the Year, Wisconsin Area Music Industry 2023 Student Award for Excellence TV Episodic Entertainment Program, Titan TV 2023 Shepherd Express Best of Milwaukee Awards, Finalist for Best Blues Band 2023 Honors Recitalist Award and Scholarship, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh 2022 Oshkosh Fine Arts Association Scholarship 2022 Bill Tesch Music Scholarship, Boogie and the Yoyo'z 2019 Endowment of Music Excellence, University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Music Department 2019 Rising Star in Art Award, James Thaldorf 2019 Nell M. In this episode of Exploring the Blues in Chicago, Brett David Stewart learns what the life of a Chicago blues artist is like through two fascinating interviews. Frank Bang and Derrick Procell both discuss their trajectories through the blues community, the triumphs and tribulations that followed, the future of their genre, and much more. Frank Bang is a long-time member of the Chicago blues scene. From touring with Buddy Guy to recording his most recent album, The Blues Don’t Care, Bang has cemented himself as an integral voice in the community. Derrick Procell, another music veteran, has had his music used in some of television’s most popular shows, and more recently, he teamed up with some of Chicago’s finest blues artists to record a new record, Why I Sing The Blues.

Black-Eyed News: This week we replaced the Black-Eyed News with an interview with the guitarist from the Dirty Bones who are playing a 30th Anniversary show at Black-Eyed Sally’s this Saturday August 24th at 9pm. The show coincides with a scholarship that was set up at ECSU in the name of their friend and former manager Joe Polito. We discussed Tom’s gear choices, the early years with the Dirty Bones in Willimantic and what they have in store for this Saturday’s show(to include raffling off a new Fender Stratocaster). I recommend getting there early and buying lots of tickets. Tom also writes for Vintage Guitar, Premier Guitar, The Tone Quest Report and Modern Guitar magazines you can check out some of his interviews and gear reports at: http://www.mambosons.com/ http://www.mambosons.com/guitarist.htm http://www.vintageguitar.com/author/tom-guerra/ BLUES IN THE AREA: 8/21 WEDNESDAY SMOKIN' JOE KUBEK & BNOIS KING - CHAN'S - WOONSOCKET, RI PROFESSOR HARP / JOHNNY & THE EAST COAST ROCKERS - WESTERLY TOWN BEACH (6-8PM) - WESTERLY, RI DAN STEVENS - THE OLD LYME INN (6PM, WEATHER PERMITTING) - OLD LYME, CT THE MOJO BOYS - BLUES, BERRIES & JAM FARMERS MARKET ON THE GREEN (NOON-1:30PM) - NEW HAVEN, CT 8/22 THURSDAY LUCKY PETERSON - CHAN'S (8PM) - WOONSOCKET, RI JANET RYAN & STRAIGHT UP - THEODORES' - SPRINGFIELD, MA DAN STEVENS - SMOKIN' WITH CHRIS (6PM) - SOUTHINGTON, CT ERAN TROY DANNER ACOUSTIC DUO - D'AMELIOS ITALIAN EATERY (7-10PM) - WATERBURY, CT 8/23 FRIDAY JOHNNY WINTER - THE ISLAND BELLE BLUES CRUISE (6PM, WATER ST. Black-Eyed News: The first story up this week is that the Clapton Crossroads show from a few months ago will be coming to a theater near you.On August 13th in theatres across the country there will be a special one night only event broadcasting highlights and backstage footage from this pasts Aprils CrossRoads Guitar Festival. Musicians featured in the cinema event include Allman Brothers Band, Blake Mills, Booker T., Buddy Guy, Derek Trucks, Doyle Bramhall II, Eric Clapton, Gary Clark Jr., Gregg Allman, Jeff Beck, John Mayer, Keith Richards, Keith Urban, Los Lobos, Robert Cray, Sonny Landreth, Vince Gill and Warren Haynes. It will be shown in nearly 500 select theatres around the country, and to see where and to buy tickets head to www.fathomevents.com. We went to the theater event last year and it was awesome you almost feel like you’re there. Blues Blast magazine has had 2 great interviews in the last 2 weeks. The first one was with frontman for the Fabulous Thunderbirds Kim Wilson. It talks about the T-Birds new record and how he has gone from being influenced by the greats to becoming influential on the careers of a new crop of performers and the first time that he met Muddy Waters. It is a great interview. I will leave the link in this week’s write up. http://thebluesblast.com/Archive/BluesBlasts/2013/BluesBlast7_18_13.htm The second interview is with the legendary James Cotton. Though a bout with throat cancer and the ensuing loss of a vocal cord back in the mid-90s has left Cotton unable to do much singing, the Grammy Award winner and Blues Hall of Famer has steadfastly refused to allow that malady stop him from blowing the harp with as much power and gusto as he ever has. “I was a harmonica player before I was a singer. I didn’t really become a singer until I started fronting a band,” he said. “So, that (his health) has kind of made me be able to concentrate on playing the harmonica again. It kind of put me back on track.” Cotton’s health issues have also not put the brakes on his recording career, either. He just requires a little more help in the studio these days. And when you’ve got friends like Gregg Allman, Keb Mo, Warren Haynes, Delbert McClinton, Darrell Nulisch, Joe Bonamassa and Ruthie Foster to call on, well, you’ve got it made. You should read the entire interview and pick up a copy of Cotton Mouth Man on Alligator records. http://thebluesblast.com/Archive/BluesBlasts/2013/BluesBlast8_1_13.htm Lastly; The self-proclaimed ‘Boss of the Blues,’ James Lewis Carter ‘T-Model’ Ford, passed away from respiratory failure July 16 in his Greenville, Mississippi home. Depending on which account you believe, T-Model was somewhere between 89-93 years old (editor’s note: He told Blues Blast in an interview from Feb. 14 of this year that he was 92 years old). T-Model was the very embodiment of the blues and spent a couple of years on a chain gang for murder as a young man. He also claimed to have been married six times and fathered over 20 children. With his unique style of guitar playing – chopping off chords that were very reminiscent of a bell chiming – T-Model paired with R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough to help bring the Fat Possum Records label to national attention with four classic albums for the Oxford, Mississippi-based label. T-Model is survived by his wife Estella and grandson (and drummer) Stud. http://thebluesblast.com/Archive/BluesBlasts/2013/BluesBlast8_1_13.htm BLUES IN THE AREA:8/7 WEDNESDAY CHRISTINE OHLMAN & REBEL MONTEZ - WESTERLY TOWN BEACH (6-8PM) - WESTERLY, RI DAN STEVENS - THE OLD LYME INN (6 PM, WEATHER PERMITTING) - OLD LYME, CT THE CHRIS D'AMATO BAND - THE HARTFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY (NOON-1PM, 500 MAIN ST.) - HARTFORD THE TRAVIS MOODY BAND - BLUES, BERRIES & JAM FARMERS MARKET ON THE GREEN (NOON-1:30PM) - NEW HAVEN, CT BLUES JAM W/BRANDT TAYLOR - BLACK-EYED SALLY'S (8 PM) - HARTFORD 8/8 THURSDAY TOMMY CASTRO - CHAN'S - WOONSOCKET, RI ANA POPOVIC - STEARNS SQUARE (WORTHINGTON ST.) - SPRINGFIELD, MA SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY - BLACK-EYED SALLY'S (8 PM) - HARTFORD ERIN HARPE & THE DELTA SWINGERS - THEODORES' - SPRINGFIELD, MA DAN STEVENS - THE CONNECTICUT RIVER MUSEUM (5:30 PM) - ESSEX, CT BRANDT TAYLOR - THE SPRING HOUSE - BLOCK ISLAND, RI 8/9 FRIDAY TOMMY CASTRO - THE KNICKERBOCKER CAFE (8PM) - WESTERLY, RI JOHNNY RAWLS - CHAN'S (8PM) - WOONSOCKET, RI RICK ESTRIN & THE NIGHTCATS - THE OUTER SPACE (8PM) - HAMDEN, CT DAN STEVENS - THE CAPTAIN DANIEL PACKER INN - MYSTIC, CT THE WALTER LEWIS BLUES TRIO - THE LAKEHOUSE (7PM) - SEYMOUR, CT ERAN TROY DANNER (ACOUSTIC) - THEODORES' (9PM) - SPRINGFIELD, MA BRANDT TAYLOR - THE CANOE CLUB (9PM) - MIDDLETOWN, CT 8/10 SATURDAY STAFFORD SPRINGS BLUES FESTIVAL - HYDE PARK & THE PALACE THEATER - STAFFORD SPRINGS, CT HYDE PARK LINEUP (STARTS AT NOON): JAMES MONTGOMERY EASY BABY JUNIOR KRAUSS & THE SHAKES JOHNNY CHARLES & 706 UNION BAND JOSH SCUSSEL & THE RUDE BLUES BAND 13TH STEP DAN STEVENS Palace Theater lineup (starts 7:15 pm): AJ JANSEN CHRISTINE OHLMAN & REBEL MONTEZ George Thorogood / Buddy Guy - MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods (8pm) - Mashantucket, CT JOHNNY A. & JEFF PITCHELL - BRIDGE STREET LIVE (9PM) - COLLINSVILLE, CT THE RICH BADOWSKI BLUES BAND - SAM THE CLAM'S - SOUTHINGTON, CT RIVER CITY SLIM & THE ZYDECO HOGS - BLACK-EYED SALLY'S (9PM) - HARTFORD KING CAKE - THE LEBANON FAIRGROUNDS (3PM) - LEBANON, CT BRANDT TAYLOR - T.J. Frank Bang spent 5 years touring with Buddy Guy, has played on stage with Eric Clapton, Dave Matthews and Carlos Santana to name a few.  He released 4 albums, and then took time off to raise his family. Now he and his band Secret Stash are back making music.  His latest album is Double Dare and will be released on May 21. Frank will join me to discuss his life, career and new album, while we listen to some tunes.   Sterling Koch is a nationally recognized lap steel guitarist who is a touring/recording solo artist and session musician. Sterling specializes in playing Chicago-style, slide guitar blues in a contemporary style on the lap steel guitar. His latest album, Let It Slide is a collection of some sweet music.  After years of playing guitar, Koch was told he need to stop once a herniated disc was found in his neck.  Foregoing surgery Koch decided to take up the lap steel.  Frank joins me as we discuss his career and listen to his music. Sena Ehrhardt grew up in Minnesota with a blues-loving, guitar-playing dad, so it is no surprise when she followed in his footsteps into music.  Her first album, Leave The Light On, earned her a Blues Music Award Nomination for Best Debut Artist. and now, her second album, All In, was just released and it shows the growth she has gained in her songwriting, playing and singing. Produced by the great Jim Gaines, Sena and her band explode through 11 excellent tunes. I will chat with Sena about her life and how much it has changed in the last year and where she is headed in the future. Keaton Simons joined me back in June of 2012 to discuss his debut album.  He is releasing his new album and bringing it to The Couch with him.  This young man plays music of different genres, but it all falls under the GOOD STUFF label.
