In the early morning hours of July 31, 2022, 17-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla was behind the wheel of her Toyota Camry, driving her 20-year-old boyfriend Dominic Russo and their 19-year-old friend Davion Flanagan home from a high school graduation party in Strongsville, Ohio.What should have been a short, familiar ride ended in horror when the car suddenly accelerated to nearly 100 miles per hour, blew through a stop sign, and slammed head-on into a brick building. Dominic and Davion were killed on impact. Mackenzie was the sole survivor. At first, it looked like a devastating accident. But investigators quickly uncovered evidence that told a far darker story: black box data showed the accelerator pinned to the floor with no braking attempts, and the crash appeared deliberate and controlled. Prosecutors charged Mackenzie with murder, alleging the crash was intentional—possibly tied to a troubled relationship. When it went to Adult Swim I was hooked on everything. Had my friends over to watch. Until it was brought back it had the best ending. 3- Letterkenney - Turned on to that during pandemic, blew through it, it's one of the most bingeable shows I've ever watched. Great ending, sad to see it end. Jared Keo as Wayne Shoresy, is fantastic. 2- Law and Order SVU - Watching it for 20 years, loved every episode, every character change, every story ark. Munch the best character, dark and sad but very good watch. 1- The Venture Brothers - My favourite show of all time, ran for 7 seasons 81 episodes, 4 specials, every single one of them was great. Drop subtle hints in the early seasons then pay off in later seasons. Brock Samson phenomenal character. Johnny Quest rip off originally then became it's own show. Always famous people, and Kim Kardashian 2- American Horror Story - Twisted episodes, messed up themes, one of my favourite seasons were season 1 murder house, coven, hotel with Lady Gaga, the season where they did 1984, very 80s murder based, season 9 was 1984. She will start with the same chemo she had last time (Oct '22- March '23). It's likely she'll also need radiation for the brain, but will do an MRI 4 weeks after chemo starts to know for sure & decide what's best… Health update video coming soon. Keep those prayers and good wishes coming. Diane starts chemo Monday 1/22.   On a Happy Note We had a great visit with my friend Laura who was here for New Year's. We struck a great balance of lazily watching tv (The Gilded Age & Slow Horses) and getting out and about. We also went to see Boys in the Boat the movie theater. My parents' annual open house the Saturday after Christmas. Mom gave the girls needle felting kits for Christmas; Millie Facetimed me several times with questions and showing me her progress! Getting sick has not been fun, but the fact that it didn't ruin my holidays and the fact that work is also still relatively quiet is a huge happy note. Dan has been taking great care of me, and we're rewatching Hell On Wheels. I spent Sunday of MLK weekend at my parents'. We played Wordle board game (Amazon affiliate link) with Mom, Riley, Millie and Aila. We visited my cousin Jenny's new house, got our nails done, went out for Mexican, played more games! Ohio teen Mackenzie Shirilla had been dating Dominic Russo for years and their relationship was described as tumultuous.  A friend overhead an argument between the two in July 2022 where Mackenzie threatened to crash the car she was driving, with both of them in it. A few weeks later, Mackenzie did exactly that.  Early one morning, after a night of partying, she crashed her vehicle into a wall at 100mph.  Dominic died along with a friend of the pair, Davion Flanagan.  Mackenzie was injured and taken to hospital, where she recovered. By October 2022, Mackenzie was well enough to dress up as a corpse for Halloween, despite just losing two of her closest friends. Mackenzie was eventually arrested and her case has just gone to court.  She was convicted and is currently serving a minimum of 15 years in prison.  Her family argue that the crash was an accident caused by a medical condition, but the judge did not believe that story.  In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss the case of Mackenzie Shirilla. We also discuss creepy updates in the case of the BTK serial killer.  Police have released sketches done by Dennis Rader and have asked the public for help in identifying the people and locations in the drawings.  We discuss these developments in this episode. My former colleague at Warner Bros and creative executive, Michael Stradford joins the podcast to talk about three iconic films.   We start off with SHAFT (1971) and the impact that film had on him as a 10-year-old boy in Cleveland.  Then we discuss his first memories of watching ENTER THE DRAGON (1973) and his impressions of Bruce Lee. We reflect on the enduring influence of Bruce Lee and how ENTER THE DRAGON revolutionized martial arts films and Hollywood.  We also critique the current Warner Bros 4K release of ENTER THE DRAGON for the 50th anniversary of the film, and what the lack of any new extras says about the current state of physical media at the major studios.  This leads to a discussion of the great work being done by many smaller boutique labels who have stepped into the void by creating exceptional box sets and extras. We then transition to a more positive discussion of the fantastic extras Stradford produced for THE BATMAN (2022) release.  This is a great example of a studio and filmmaker working in tandem to produce over two hours of high-quality extras.  We close with an engaging discussion on Stradford's books on Miles Davis and model Steve Holland, and his newest venture, the graphic novel "Fargo Hell on Wheels." Ohio teen Mackenzie Shirilla was convicted of murdering her boyfriend and friend in a deadly high-speed crash in 2022. Prosecutors said she was on a “mission of death” when she turned into “hell on wheels,” slamming the gas pedal to the floor and reaching speeds of nearly 100 mph before crashing into a brick wall, killing 20-year-old Dominic Russo and his 19-year-old friend Davion Flanagan. Shirilla was handed two prison sentences of 15 years to life behind bars.
