Today polymath, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and all around Renaissance woman Georgia Mooney joins me for a deep dive into the making of her glorious debut solo album 'Full of Moon', a month after it's release. We talk about the concept of authenticity, the strange intricacies of recording an entire album with rich orchestrations remotely during the panini, the alternate history version of the album, choosing which parts of your personality to reveal and funnel into songwriting and public performance and much more.
Michael tells the story of Australian singer/songwriter/actor/model Natalie Imbruglia's fateful, circuitous 1997 global pop megahit. Georgia Mooney joins the conversation. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Georgia Mooney is an ARIA-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Sydney. Audiences already know Mooney from beloved folk band All Our Exes Live In Texas. With Exes, she became a festival favourite, touring globally and sharing stages with everyone from the Backstreet Boys to Nathaniel Rateliff to Midnight Oil. The release of her debut solo album 'Full of Moon' marks an exciting new chapter and the stepping forward of a major talent. This episode I chat with Georgia Mooney about deriving her album title from a Joni Mitchell song and creating a visual world to accompany her music. We discussed working with Retrosweat aerobics troop on a music video and gushed over ABBA together.Support the show
We're welcoming the multi-talented Georgia Mooney to the pod today! Known as a songwriter, podcaster, host, and versatile multi-instrumentalist, Georgia wears many hats. A quarter of the ARIA award-winning folk-pop group All Our Exes Live In Texas, she's travelled the globe and shared stages with artists ranging from Midnight Oil to the Backstreet Boys. Now, Georgia is stepping into her solo spotlight with "Full of Moon," her debut solo record. This album takes listeners on an exhilarating sonic journey, ranging from eccentric 80s soundscapes to folk-infused melodies and even baroque pop. In today's episode, we're discussing the influences of artists like ABBA and Kate Bush on her new record. We explore her experience of venturing into solo work, shedding light on the distinct songwriting process she embraced for this project. Plus, we share our insights on both being music school dropouts!Georgia Mooney: Instagram / Facebook / SpotifyPurchase 'Full of Moon' here. Thanks again to Georgia Mooney for her time. Today we celebrate out milestone 400th episode with a special tribute to one of the all time great TV dramas, which recently concluded it's brilliant run. Better Call Saul is the rare spinoff that not only lived up to its parent show, it actually surpassed it. Today I'm joined by writer/director/executive producer Thomas Schnauz, actors Patrick Fabian (Howard Hamlin) and Peter Diseth (Bill Oakley), casting director Sharon Bialy and journalist and cultural critic Carrie Wittmer, plus I revisit my 2020 conversation with Jimmy McGill himself, Bob Odenkirk. Thanks for everyone who joined us today, producer Georgia Mooney for helping pull this together and to everyone who has joined me for the past eight years and 400 episodes, either as guest or listener. We're just getting started!

This week the big red comedian Ben Knight has no idea what is going on but has a crack at The Saturday Paper Quiz anyway. He's helped by this week's Brains Trust: Calamari Jane an octopus and drummer in a Nu Metal band (Michelle Brasier), and it's the return of THE WITCH! (John Robles) who is just as helpful as she was the first time she was on.Hosted by Kyran Wheatley. The Leaderboard:* Tim Hewitt 10/10* Lloyd Langford 8.5/10* Prue Blake 8/10* Kirsten Drysdale 8/10* Rob Mills 8/10* Vidya Rajan 8/10* Geraldine Hickey 8/10 DSQ* Sam Taunton 7.9/10* Annie Louey 7/10* Jess Perkins 7/10* Matt Stewart 7/10* Sami Shah 7/10* Scout Boxall 7/10* Woodes 7/10* Alexei Toliopoulos 6/10* Carl Donnelly 6/10* Dane Simpson 6/10* Ivan Aristeguieta 6/10* Jess Perkins 6/10* Josh Earl 6/10* Kirsty Webeck 6/10* Michael Hing 6/10* Nath Valvo 6/10* Rosie Piper 6/10* Snorty Dog 6/10* Zan Rowe 6/10* Zoe Coombs Marr 6/10* Emma Holland 5.5/10* Miranda Tapsell 5.5/10* Alex Dyson 5/10* Danielle Walker 5/10* Dave Thornton 5/10* Jan Fran 5/10* Jude Perl 5/10* Kirsty Webeck 5/10* Myf Warhurst 5/10* Nick Cody 5/10* Nina Oyama 5/10* Sami Shah 5/10* Luke McGregor 4.5/10* Mike Goldstein 4.5/10* Alex Ward 4/10* Anna Piper Scott 4/10* Daniel Sloss 4/10* Georgia Mooney 4/10* John Hastings 4/10* Michael Hing 4/10* Rhys Nicholson 4/10* Sam Petersen 4/10* Brodi Snook 3/10* Daniel Connell 3/10* Emma Holland 3/10* Geraldine Hickey 3/10* Luka Muller 3/10* Nazeem Hussain 3/10* Rhys Nicholson 3/10* Alex Ward 2/10* Lizzy Hoo 2/10* Tom Cardy 2/10Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/wax-quizzical. This episode is like being a guest the best Rufus Wainwright themed dinner party of all time - and believe or not, no alcohol was consumed before or during recording. Elana Stone and Georgia Mooney - half of Australia's premiere Americana quartet All Our Exes Live In Texas - drop in ahead of their US tour to explore Rufus Wainwright's two 'Want' albums, how they reflect his languid sexuality, genre-bending ambition, relationship with his musical siblings and parents, and why loving and hating Rufus can both lead to the end of romantic relationships. Plus, we record the pilot episode of my new podcast 'My Favorite Cereal'. My Favorite Album is a podcast unpacking the great works of pop music. Each episode features a different songwriter or musician discussing their favorite album of all time - their history with it, the making of the album, individual songs and the album's influence on their own music. Jeremy Dylan is a filmmaker, journalist and photographer from Sydney, Australia who has worked in the music industry since 2007. He directed the the feature music documentary Jim Lauderdale: The King of Broken Hearts (out now!) and the feature film Benjamin Sniddlegrass and the Cauldron of Penguins, in addition to many commercials and music videos.
