Welcome to The Not Old Better Show on radio and podcast! I'm your host, Paul Vogelzang, and today's episode is one that will touch your heart, challenge your perceptions, and inspire you to rethink the power of forgiveness. Our guest is the remarkable Dr. Rosanne D'Ausilio—an author, speaker, and transformation advocate. Rosanne's new book, Pain, Pumpernickel & Profound Forgiveness: A Daughter's Story of Her Punishing & Loving Relationship with Her Father, is a story unlike any other. It's raw, redemptive, and breathtakingly human. Dr. Rosanne D'Ausilio takes us on a deeply personal journey through her tumultuous relationship with her father—a man whose strict, authoritarian ways left scars that seemed impossible to heal. But what begins as a tale of pain and fear unfolds into a profound revelation of compassion, understanding, and Divine Intervention. We'll hear about the moments that transformed her perspective—like Sunday morning bakery visits, where coconut bars and watermelon-sized pumpernickel bread became unlikely symbols of love. And, in the face of lifelong resentment, Rosanne reveals how she discovered the electrifying potential of forgiveness. This is more than a story about a father and daughter—it's a guide for anyone who has ever carried the weight of a painful past. Rosanne's insights will teach us how to shift perceptions, embrace compassion, and find peace—even with those we once thought unforgivable. So, sit back, listen closely, and prepare for a conversation that could change the way you see your own life. Let's dive into the extraordinary world of Dr. Rosanne D'Ausilio. My thanks to Dr. Rosanne D'Ausilio for her time and wonderful story insights into Profound Forgiveness. Please check out our show notes today for more details about Rosanne D'Ausilio and her new book titled “Pain, Pumpernickel, and Profound Forgiveness.” My thanks to all our audience on radio and podcast, Sam Heninger and Miranda Heninger for their work to drive the show to new heights, here's to 2025! Let's talk about Better. The Not Old Better Show on radio and podcast. Thanks everybody. We'll see you next time.

Pumpernickel selber machen, kostet Zeit.

Amanda Prowse and Penny Dommett nattering around the kitchen table, chatting about all things random. Sniffing! Penny's 30th anniversary with her partner – should they tie the knot? Breakfast in Texas – what do they eat? What do people all over the world have for breakfast? Mandy's breakfast choices and Penny's love of Kefir… How do you pronounce – Pumpernickel?? It made us laugh. A lot. Penny never got into trouble in school – we are not surprised! Penny has celebrated a birthday and can't remember what I bought her. How we feel about reaching milestone birthdays. The joy of life at fifty-plus and the permission it gives you to care less, it's time we own our wisdom! The mental age we stopped at. We both dislike New Years Eve and are tucked up asleep by nine p.m.... Our love of chocolate! And how Penny abandoned a bag of chips in my car for me to discover days later! Nice. The olden days of feeding the dog whatever you ate as a family. And a discussion about white dog poo. So, pull up a chair and join us for a delightfully irreverent chit chat about life and all its random tangents - bring a cuppa. Cake optional...
Today, we're sharing a replay of our podcast episode with EBB Childbirth Class parent, Angela Jones, about having an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth when labeled as high risk. Angela is a macro-level social worker, wife to her husband, Tony, and mom to her son, Allister, and their cats, Pumpernickel and Lion-O. Angela and Tony graduated from the Evidence Based Birth Childbirth Class with EBB instructor, Victoria Michonski. Both Victoria and Heather McCullough, who is also an EBB instructor, were Angela and Tony's doulas for Allister's birth. In today's replay, we talk about Angela's birth story and her experience having an easy, uncomplicated pregnancy and birth despite being labeled as high risk for multiple reasons. We also talk about data birth outcomes for people who have multiple high-risk labels. Three years later, Angela shared this thoughtful update as she reflected on her birth story. Update from Angela: When I am having difficult moments, I sometimes look back at the video of myself giving birth to Allister and feel such peace. Allister turned 3 this year, and recently he has been asking about how he came into this world. My husband and I have been showing him the video of him being born and when he sees it, he looks at me, almost in awe, with a big smile. He now requests to see it at least once per week. Going into my birthing time, I never imagined that I would have 41 hours of active labor. I still credit the EBB course and my amazing doulas with having prepared me well in understanding all of the tools that were available to me when, after 30 hours of not being able to tolerate any food or water, I decided that I wanted to depart from my original birth plan. Getting an epidural allowed me to eat, drink, sleep and then ultimately push my son out gently in the position of my choosing. This was the exact birth experience that I wanted. I still encourage women, especially those who are afraid (in particular, those who are afraid due to multiple "high risk" labels) to not settle for a care team that is anything less than supportive, safe, and empowering. Content note: We talk about ectopic pregnancy, pregnancy losses, high-risk pregnancy complications, and perinatal morbidity. Resources: Learn more about EBB Instructor, Victoria Michonski, here. An intimate and soul-searching chronicle of Rosanne's transformation from seeing her father as a source of pain, hurt, and fear to embracing the healing power of compassion, generosity, and forgiveness. Rosanne shares her tumultuous yet redemptive relationship with her father. —a saga where moments of sheer joy collide with gut-wrenching heartache and revelations so bittersweet, they'll bring tears to your eyes. From the haunting image of a young girl dressed in a yellow pinafore, white socks, and shoes, afraid to smile, to the heartwarming camaraderie of Sunday morning adventures to the bakery, where they indulged in watermelon-sized pumpernickel bread and witnessed the magic of coconut bars being meticulously crafted. Hold on tight as her extraordinary journey is punctuated by tales of Divine Intervention (DI's), jaw-dropping moments that defy logic. Pivotal moments that shaped her perceptions and personal growth. Her understanding of her father evolves with every revelation, peeling back layers of miscommunication and seething resentment to expose the electrifying potential of forgiveness. Her style doesn't just draw you in; it kidnaps your senses, thrusting you headfirst into her world, forcing you to experience her memories and emotions as if they were yours. Brace yourself for a journey of healing that will leave you forever changed.
