In this episode, Dara and Isy are joined by the astronaut Helen Sharman to learn about how humans learned to survive in space - with some diverting conversations about glitter, cat statues, hibernation, and shell suits. What? Seriously?? is a new podcast which combines comedy with quirky history, hosted by Dara Ó Briain and Isy Suttie, who will unravel an extraordinary real-life tale each week with the help of a celebrity guestDara and Isy unearth stories that are definitely true, but also kind of unbelievable at the same time - the sort of stories that make you go ‘What? Seriously??' when you hear them, but you resolve to tell them in the pub the first chance you get. The twist is that Dara and Isy have absolutely no idea how these strange-but-true tales will unfold and we'll all be trying to figure it out together – or Dara and Isy will just go off on funny flights of fancy that are tangentially related to the story. They will be drip-fed the nuggets of narrative by a special guest expert who might just know something about the subject.Across the series they will be joined by I'm A Celeb winner Georgia Toffolo, the Aussie comedian Rhys Nicholson, the broadcaster Stuart Maconie, Master Chef star Louisa Ellis, Miles from The Traitors, the comedian Richard Herring, the astronaut Helen Sharman, and Slow Horses star Chris Chung.‘What? We're coming in hot today, betch! First up, we chat about the Mike Tyson fight on Netflix from the weekend and dive into the wild world of TV ratings—can you guess what the highest-rated events of all time are? Next, Rhys Nicholson calls in for a laugh-filled chat about co-hosting the ARIAs alongside Tim. Spoiler: it's going to be fabulous! And in the world of weird, we uncover a Scottish law that legally obligates you to let someone use your toilet if they ask. Who knew? Then, Ricki-Lee gets the ultimate birthday surprise from TikTok star Fidan, who sent a heartfelt message and revealed her favourite deep-cut Ricki-Lee song. We also hear about Joel's epic 2am butt dial to the boss—oops! Later, we dive into jaw-dropping lies people have taken way too far, like the man thought to be dead… until he was spotted in a viral video. And finally, Tim's worst nightmare might be coming true: a live-action version of Moana is rumoured to be filming. Uh-oh!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Comedian Rhys Nicholson has a strong instinct for muggings because it's happened many times. But they don't always go the way either side expects. In this episode Nicholson tells the story of a ‘very, very polite mugging' in which the thief made a rather unexpected declaration. The tale I dine out on is a summer series from 10 of our favourite storytellers – actors, comedians, writers and Guardian staff – in which they recount a story that never fails to entertain
Hi Bang Fam! What this? A surprise little gift for you, as we head into Festivus! Back in November Myf and Zan headed to Nagambie Lakes, a beautiful spot about 90 mins north of Melbourne, for a huge comedy weekender called Comedy In the Vines. We did a live version of Bang On, amongst stand up sets from Celia Pacquola, Dave Hughes, Geraldine Hickey, and Susie Youssef. It was very silly, it was a bit windy, and we definitely made a giant cut out of ourselves and forced Luke McGregor to play “pin the wine on Myf and Zan”… but we also had some wonderful Bang Backs with two very funny comedians and mates, and wanted to share that with you.So dive in, as Rhys Nicholson bangs on about a podcast Zan is absolutely bingeing this summer, and Luke… well… you should just hear it yourself.Oh, and we're very stoked that we'll finally be bringing Bang On LIVE to the whole country! We've just announced a huge national tour, visiting places we've never been before and bringing Bang On to capital cities and towns alike. We hope to see you at one of the shows. Until then, have a safe, restful, and beautiful New Years. Thank you for your love and support of Bang On this and every year. We love youse heaps. See you in 2024. xShow notes:Rhy Nicholson's Dish: https://www.penguin.com.au/books/dish-9781761046759Keys to the Kingdom: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/keys-to-the-kingdom/id1707091523Bang On LIVE shows: https://comedy.com.au/tour/bang-on-live-myf-warhurst-zan-rowe/Bang Back to us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.auBang On is an ABC podcast, produced by Double J. Stop Everything! It's a big one this week. It's our final show before we break for summer, and we're wrapping the year in pop culture with two of our favourite members of the Stop Everything! cinematic universe: comedian, author and Drag Race Down Under judge, Rhys Nicholson; and broadcaster, film and tv critic and Stop Everything! fill-in cohost, Wenlei Ma.And — we are farewelling co-host Benjamin Law, who's stepping back from Stop Everything! After SIX years, so he can focus on some big exciting and non-disclosable projects in 2024. BW and BL tell their Stop Everything! origin story, laugh through a classy selection of bloopers and hug it out as they close the book on a very special era of the show. We're sad but we're also excited! Because Stop Everything! continues in 2024 in a new format, with BW hosting solo and welcoming a rotating roster of guest critics each week to talk all things pop culture.
Rhys Nicholson has written a book called DISH. Wil uses this as an excuse to catch up with the comedian. The novel is a part cook-book, part memoir — featuring essays, anchovies, and a story about an Illuminati of gay people trying to destroy straight white men. Rhys and Wil reflect on their craft and Rhys' style, including the importance of kindness. Rhys Nicholson grew up making people want to laugh. As a kid in Newcastle, they were supported every step of the way, with a family of wild creatives and even an uncle in a famous Australian band. Over the past few years, Rhys's star has shone brighter and brighter. Winning major comedy awards, becoming a judge on Ru Paul's Drag Race Down Under, and now writing their first memoir Dish. But did that broke teenager moving to Sydney to give comedy a crack, have any inkling about how life would unfold? To find out, I asked Rhys to Take 5 with the unexpected. And from John Prine to Ru-Paul, mapped a beautiful picture of Rhys's magical life. Scissor Sisters – Running Out David Byrne – Glass, Concrete and Stone John Prine – In Spite of Ourselves Georgia Mooney – War Romance Ru Paul – Sissy That Walk
Myf and Zan are back and there's a lot to catch up on. Like actively choosing to celebrate the headlights being on. Yep, we're discussing Kimmy K's nipple bra. Dolly Parton is reportedly going to be presenting an award at the ARIA's and with both of us heading along we're wondering if this is our moment. And with Taylor Swift's “1989” re-recording out, a great long read remembering that time Ryan Adams covered us has us thinking about how women's pop music is digested differently to men's singer-songwriter approach. The shocking murder of Lillie James at the St Andrews School, and the response to it by their former principal, reflects the systemic issues with male violence, privilege, and protection. A brilliant editorial captures the feelings many of us have had, in it's wake. And Halloween has once again brought out the “hot” looks but frankly, we're here for the freak show. And Heidi Klum has some excellent competition. Zan is banging on about Rhys Nicholson's excellent memoir, and Myf is watching Theatre Camp. This week I am joined by the wonderful entertaining ‘Rhys Nicholson' and the first eliminated queen from ‘RuPauls Drag Race Down Under.' Which has launched its third season on ‘Stan Australia' this weekend. ‘Rhys' is an Australian born comedian, writer and actor. Who many around the world know as a staple in the 'Down Under' series. As a reoccurring judge on the panel with 'Michelle Visage' and 'RuPaul.' I honestly have been looking forward to catching up with ‘Rhys' to get some insights on the latest series and to ask some pretty big questions which have plagued me since ever since I started watching 'RuPaul's' many moons ago. I will also debrief the first episode with our first eliminated queen. I won't mentioning their name, as you may not have had time to watch the first episode. (It's available now on 'Stan Australia.') I will find out, how hard it is to get on ‘RuPauls Drag Race:Down Under ' and what makes ‘Down Under' different to the overseas iterations. ‘Rhys' will lift the lid on how they produce the infamous runway. Such as, how many times the queens actually walk it and how they narrate those one liners. I will also get to the bottom of how much time ‘RuPaul' and ‘Michelle' are actually on set.... and if ‘Rhys' has a proper friendship with them both. Plus we will get plenty of exclusives from behind the scenes of ‘RuPuals: Down Under 'Which is now available to watch on ‘Stan Australia.' See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
