Today's episode is a true crime story of Glenn Turner, Randy Thompson, and the woman who connects them, Lynn Turner.Lynn and Glenn were married less than a year after meeting. Glenn worshiped the ground Lynn walked on, doted on her hand and foot, and loved her with all his heart. Lynn cheated on Glenn, was abusive and controlling, and spent all their money. Glenn's family did not know why Glenn was with Lynn, and they were never able to see him free of her, because he passed after suffering from flu-like symptoms.Lynn moved in with Randy Thompson. Randy and Lynn had two children together, but their relationship was far from healthy, to the point that a judge even told them to stay away from each other. But they couldn't bring themselves to cut each other out of their lives, that is, until Randy suffered flu-like symptoms and passed away. Sounds suspicious, right? Well, Glen's mother thought so, too. So she made a call that had police second guessing everything they thought they knew. But first, Robin brings back Last-ish Words-ish for her Something Spooky!TW: Suicide and Domestic ViolenceSources: https://hauntedhospitality.wordpress.com/2023/09/26/ep-130-the-deaths-of-glenn-turner-and-randy-thompson/Visit us on Social Media! Charles Darwin watched a cricket match in New Zealand in 1835 – but the country had to wait a long time for international recognition and even longer for its first Test match victories. Things began to change in the 1970s, and David Leggat explains the reasons for its climb, and not only the one named Richard Hadlee. Formerly the chief cricket writer of the New Zealand Herald who has reported and toured with many New Zealand teams, he is the guest of Peter Oborne and Richard Heller on their latest cricket-themed podcast.David profiles the latest addition to New Zealand's formidable pace attack – Kyle Jamieson (roughly the height of Joel Garner). He pays tribute to the leadership and exceptional dedication of Kane Williamson. New Zealand's best teams, he suggests, have been built on a world-class performers supported by hard-working players who “get on with the job and do their bit” – in line with the country's national character. He suggests reasons why rugby union took off so much more quickly than cricket in New Zealand. He reveals that the legend of the invincible All-Blacks began with a misprint in newspaper copy. Historically, he argues that distant England did more to support New Zealand cricket than neighbouring Australia, who played one (retrospective) Test match against them in 1946 and then no more until 1973. There is enduring gratitude to England's pioneering tourists in the nineteenth century – notwithstanding the betting scandal in 1877 (the first in international cricket) by the English wicketkeeper Ted Pooley. England later established the practice of tacking on a short Test tour of New Zealand after Ashes tours to Australia. In one of these, Walter Hammond struck what was then the record Test match score. He pays tribute to an early great New Zealand bowler, Jack Cowie – who needed just one over to dismiss Don Bradman in front of a packed Adelaide Oval. He traces New Zealand's generally friendly relationship with Pakistan cricket – and gives a striking first-hand portrait of Imran Khan on and off the field. David's father, Gordon Leggat, played for New Zealand on their pioneering tour of Pakistan in the 1950s, and, as a barrister, was called on to perform most of the team's many speaking duties. He was later a national selector, tour manager and chair of the New Zealand Cricket Council, and David traces his influence on making New Zealand stronger international competitors. For years, New Zealand's best cricketers were amateurs, with just a small allowance for overseas tours. Some of the best, such as Bert Sutcliffe, had to leave the game for long periods to earn a living. David assesses the impact of access to English county cricket for New Zealand players in the 1970s such as Glenn Turner, John Parker, Geoff Howarth, and of course Richard Hadlee – who became the first New Zealand player to have his name chanted by crowds. They gave inspiration to others to apply themselves professionally. Three highly significant Test wins in the 1970s, and success in ODIs, put New Zealand's cricket on an upward trajectory which brought them to number 2 in the international Test rankings. Finally, he reveals the team's pain at the manner of their defeat in last year's World Cup beneath the public display of good sportsmanship which won them so much admiration.

Consider this from Katharine Butler Hathaway, "If you let fear of consequence prevent you from following your deepest instinct, then your life will be safe, expedient and thin." The implication here is that fear of consequence is pretty normal; so having some, or maybe even a lot, isn't that much of a big deal. The big deal is having a life that is safe, expedient, and thin. What the problem with this actually is remains hidden; so you are simply expected to intuit it, it seems. The rub is that you have little faith in your abilities and less faith in your basic grasp or understanding of situations or circumstances. Since you don't believe that you can trust your judgment or instinct, you don't take a chance on yourself. You likewise don't have much faith in your ability to anticipate or predict the behavior of other people. Your belief is that you cannot predict if a specific action of yours will lead to good or bad outcomes. Usually, you think the likely outcome of following your judgment will be bad. You don't trust yourself and feel that any errors or mistakes you might make will likely be just another example of your screwing up. Given that reality, a life that is safe, expedient, and thin sounds like a reasonable alternative. There is a potential glitch in going with the safe alternative, though. Brooke Foss Westcott described it this way, "Silently and imperceptibly, as we wake or sleep, we grow strong or we grow weak, and at last some crisis shows us what we have become." Fortunately, Eleanor Roosevelt suggested another alternative that you may want to consider. "I believe that anyone can conquer fear by doing the things he fears to do, provided he keeps doing them until he gets a record of successful experiences behind him." Sure, conquering fear sounds good in theory; but it's certainly easier said than done. As you weigh your choices, Glenn Turner's point deserves your attention, "Worrying is like a rocking chair: it gives you something to do, but it doesn't get you anywhere." Ruth Gordon also joined the fear fighters, "Courage is like a muscle; it is strengthened by use;" and as you might have expected, the famous Anon. added a tidbit as well, "The mighty oak was once a little nut that stood its ground." Since the Fear vs. Safe debate can't be resolved here, another thought or two will be enough for now. Haddon W. Robinson said, "What worries you, masters you;" and Roger Babson said, "If things go wrong, don't go with them." There you go. Do what you need to do, when you need to do it; and while you're at it, adopt the Charlie Brown philosophy for fear management, "I've developed a new philosophy … I only dread one day at a time." Now you know so there you go.

Robinson said, "What worries you, masters you;" and Roger Babson said, "If things go wrong, don't go with them." There you go. Do what you need to do, when you need to do it; and while you're at it, adopt the Charlie Brown philosophy for fear management, "I've developed a new philosophy … I only dread one day at a time." Consider this from Katharine Butler Hathaway, "If you let fear of consequence prevent you from following your deepest instinct, then your life will be safe, expedient and thin." The implication here is that fear of consequence is pretty normal; so having some, or maybe even a lot, isn't that much of a big deal. Haddon W. Tom Latham batted his way into the record books against Sri Lanka at the Basin Reserve – and then kept going.A flawless day's batting saw Latham rack up a phenomenal 264 not out - the sixth-highest score in New Zealand test cricket history, as he completely bossed a Sri Lankan bowling attack all over the famous Wellington ground. It was the largest total by any test batsman in 2018, and Latham remained unbowed at the end of it, recording the highest score of anyone to carry their bat in test cricket. 489 balls and a marathon 694 minutes later, Latham walked off to a standing ovation as New Zealand totalled a mammoth 578, with Latham responsible for 45 per cent of their tremendous tally. In response, Sri Lanka once again collapsed, slumping to 20-3 before stumps, still trailing by a ridiculous 276 runs. In just 12 overs after Latham walked off, Trent Boult trapped Danushka Gunathilaka lbw for three, Tim Southee bowled Dhananjaya de Silva for a duck, and Dimuth Karunaratne sprayed a wild hook shot down the throat of Boult for Southee's second scalp, and eighth of the match. While the weather forecast threatens rain on day five, it would be a shock if Sri Lanka even made it that far, requiring a Latham-esque knock of their own for the test to end in anything but an absolute thrashing.Frankly, Sri Lanka must be sick of the sight of the Basin. The last time they were here, Kane Williamson hit 242 – somehow now the third best score against Sri Lanka in Wellington, after Martin Crowe's 299 and Latham's effort.Four of New Zealand's top six individual innings have now come against Sri Lanka, and Latham's knock was as good as any of them. Resuming on 121, Latham barely offered the visitors a chance in his second day at the crease in what could be a career-defining knock. The 26-year-old opener cruised along at a comfortable pace, accumulating with ease, playing some textbook cover drives, and generally compiling a definitive opener's innings. After struggling on the recent tour of the United Arab Emirates – averaging just 16.5 – Latham talked about still having complete trust in his game, and he displayed all of that confidence as he pummeled the poor Sri Lankan attack. He was never rash in his shot-making, and was the ever-present in a slew of demoralising partnerships. He added 114 with Henry Nicholls, who continued his strong form with a solid 50, and then combined for 73 with Colin de Grandhomme, who punched a customarily quick 49.As they plundered, the records started to fall. Latham brought up his 200 in 412 balls, clipping a single through mid-wicket, becoming the 15th Black Cap to notch a test double century. He had bigger things in his sights though, and started to hit out as the tail was exposed, becoming just the eighth New Zealander to reach 250. A six saw him move past Glenn Turner's 259 on the all-time list, and he surpassed Stephen Fleming's 262 before he eventually ran out of partners, on 264, after 157 overs of brilliance. The Basin crowd rose to their feet to applaud him off, and the Black Caps bowlers then made sure that the innings he'll remember forever will surely end in the dominant victory it undoubtedly deserves.Highest test scores for New ZealandBrendon McCullum – 302 v India, 2014Martin Crowe – 299 v Sri Lanka, 1991Ross Taylor – 290 v Australia, 2015Stephen Fleming – 274* v Sri Lanka, 2003Bryan Young – 267* v Sri Lanka, 1997Tom Latham – 264* v Sri Lanka, 2018

If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. If you can dream it, you can become it. William Arthur Ward This isn't altogether true but is definitely a popular, self-affirming message for most people, most of the time. One can easily imagine being faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and perhaps even leaping one of those tall buildings in a single bound. but no matter how much you dream, you still aren't turning into Superman. It's also true that you may find that you have achieved things you never imagined and have become someone you didn't think it was possible for you to become, in your wildest dreams. Unfortunately, that can work in both positive and negative directions. The reality is that imagining and dreaming can lead to achievement and becoming, but only within limits. Exploring those limits is instructive. Imagination and dreaming can assist in avoiding bad outcomes and finding oneself in undesirable circumstances. Think about what you don't want to happen, where you don't want to end up. Once you have a clear picture, figure out what you need to do to get that outcome or to end up in those circumstances. Now, make sure you don't do whatever your imagination and dreaming tell you would be required. Just don't do it. don't knowingly screw up.

Network Marketing Success Skills - Street Smart Wealth

Welcome to the Street Smart Wealth Podcast, show 70, and on today’s show, we will hear a very special interview with Glenn W Turner, who some might consider the GodFather of Network Marketing…..     Today, we have Glenn W Turner, who started in Network Marketing in the late 60s and you will be blown away by the income earnings that he shares from that time. High by today’s standards but even more powerful based on the times. His first 3 months are outstanding. My good friend , Donnie Walker, who I interviewed on show 60 is the one who introduced me to Glenn, and I just knew YOU needed to hear from him too.   First, let’s hear from today’s show sponsor   Is it really possible to build a network marketing business online? To have people come to me, already sold on a business? To become the hunted, by your prospects and not the hunter? Yes, and you can Visit SocialMediaBackstagePass.comfor details on this complete coaching and training program.   Thanks to those of you who have taken the time to review my show over on iTunes - Debby Griffin writes - So glad I stumbled across Jackie’s podcast. She has lots of great info! Has motivated me tremendously! Keep up the great work.   And, Dale Callahan who says - All those people I know doing network marketing and making nothing happen should be listening to this. Common sense advice from someone who knows how to make it happen.   So, if you have people on your team who you want taking action, refer them to the podcast!   And, make sure your name is entered in the drawing for a free month of Social Media Backstage Pass coaching by completing your review! Go to http://JackieUlmer.com/itunes   Donnie Walker introduces Glenn W Turner     Glenn: I belong to the greatest nation in the world - Determi-NATION.   I dropped out of school in 8th great, in South Carolina and started selling sewing machines door to door, until I was 32 years old. Met a 19 year old fellow who had made $16,000 in 30 days in 1966 and he recruited me. My dad and uncle put up $5000 for me to get started, and that’s what I did.     My second month I earned $28, 500, third month $80,000.   Back then, I bought a Cadillac Eldorado for $7,000.   Went into business for himself after 8 months with a company called Holiday Magic.    First month -    $67,000 in sales, second month earned $33,000 and by the third month I was at $342,000 and went up from there and by second year I was doing $33 million. And, then highest year was $150 million and that was when money was more!     Then, I opened a company called Koscot, a cosmetic company. From there I owned 78 corporations, owned 19 aircraft flying around the country and we put on presentations.     It was $5,000 to attend a seminar and it was motivational. Less than 1% complaints, but some of my competitors didn’t like it.   The president of my Board of Directors was 23 years old.   Everyone made money except this who sat around and complained about what was going on in the world.   Had one of the first black president’s of a major company.   7 women became millionaires in four years in my company and one was a black woman, a maid! Many became multi millionaires and hundreds became wealthy. Developed many preachers and priests.   Started Dare to be Great in 1969. About confidence, goal setting, attitude and how to become a public speaker.   Lived in the village of “Anything is Possible.”   Didn’t worry about those who said bad things about us - we had a choice, let it in or keep it out. I decided to keep it out.     Jackie: you have a huge passion about personal development and mindset. Were you raised this way or how did it develop?     Glenn : I love people and have no prejudice. Color, race, gender - it doesn’t matter to me.   Trying to get even with people who stick it to you is a waste of time. If you had their mod, dads, teachers and backgrounds, you’d be sticking it to you, too.   My website is GlennWTurner.com - I sell positive mindset CDs.   I am 80 years young, don’t drink or smoke and my goal is to help more people before I die than any man who has ever lived outside of Jesus Christ.     Jackie: Sounds like you are well on your way. You ran into some legal challenges with Network Marketing. Tell us about that.     Glenn: There were no laws so the government accused me of making laws. Finally, I settles on a misdemeanor and after speaking in Arizona, to make a long story short, they indicted me on aiding and abetting running a pyramid scheme.   I didn’t take it seriously because I was running for United States Senate and almost got it. I had also run for Congress.   Spent 4 years and 8 months in the prison system, and it was the best time of my life. I became a driver, I finished my high school education and was paid 15 cents an hour by the prison. I became a janitor and was paid 25 cents and hour and the third year I headed up the library and was paid 35 cents.   The fourth year I became a state driver and was paid 60 cents an hour, so I tripled my income in 4 years.   Jackie: What did you do when you came out?     Glenn: I had a year probation, so I couldn’t do much of anything, but a lot of my friends helped me while I was in there. They would ask me if I was running a scam.   I started doing some public speaking for different companies. I got out in 1992 and never had any trouble then.     Jackie: What would you say the secret to your own personal success is?     Glenn: Never quit, no matter what. If your gonna quit cause it rains, you’re going to quit. If you are going to quit because your husband or wife doesn’t like it, something is always going to make you want to quit. Stickability - the ability to stick like a postage stamp until you reach your destination yet.     Jackie:  People struggle with fear, especially about Network Marketing, what do you have to say about that?   Glenn: If it was a woman and you were a man, what would you do? Would you have fear or keep at it until she says I’ll marry you. You have to have the same desire!     The body is more powerful than the mind but you have to get the mind in charge again.     Jackie: How did you go about starting your business?     Glenn: In Holiday Magic, when I got within 3 foot of anyone, I was excited. You wouldn’t be on this earth if someone didn’t get excited. When you are excited, people want to know what you are excited about; they want to be excited, too. They want to be happy like you. If you aren’t happy, you gotta pretend you are happy until you get happy!   Donnie: You crack me up, Glenn.     Glenn:  Well, it’s true and Donnie you are one of the most fascinating young men.   Donnie: I first met Glenn he was speaking in Florida and I had no idea who he was. He had one liner after one liner. I had heard of him but never met him and when I heard, I thought “wow, you gotta be kidding!” We were instantly drawn to each other.     Jackie: What were some of your takeaways Donnie?     Donnie: His tenacity and desire, he’s been knocked down so many times and most people would have quit. But, his desire to go, keep it up…that’s what draws me to Glenn Turner. I had a grandfather figure who was like that. I get that old knowledge and that experience. It’s inspiring, when you call him he is never down, always upbeat and never down. We face a lot of adversity in this world but not with Glenn. I want to learn more about how that works.     Glenn: Confidence is a bull fighter who goes into the bull ring with mustard already on his sword. Life is too short to be unhappy. Happiness comes from within and not without. Nobody can make you happy but yourself. God Almighty but you on this earth to be a special king or queen of the earth.     Jackie: Did you have that confidence when you were little?     Glenn: People laughed at the way I talked because I was born with a hairlip. So, I told jokes, sang songs through my nose and people would laugh at me and I pretended they were laughing with me. When I got grown, I wanted people to love me.   I never had a pair of shoes until I was 9. We were poor with an outhouse. I had 4 brothers and a sister, and I was the oldest. But I was blessed.   I had a handicap but I got it out of my mind and out on the lip where it belongs. Everyone has a handicap, some of us are too fat, too skinny, too black, too white, too Greek, too Jewish. We gotta hang up our hangup.     Jackie: Any advice for someone getting started today, knowing your struggles and yet great successes?     Glenn: In order to be a success don’t give up first. You gotta lay out a goal, make so may calls a day, use the phone. Although I like things in person. It’s so easy to be a multi millionaire. There is no shortage of money, some people just hold onto it.     People are worried about the economy, and Obama, George Bush, Bill Clinton. IF you don’t like them, vote them out!     Donnie: Glenn is having an 80th birthday party in August, the week of the 19th.     Glenn: It’s on my website and my Facebook page.   Donnie: He’s hitting 80 years old, and he’s one of the oldest networkers out there!     Glenn: I’ll still be doing this when I’m 169.     Donnie: He already has a network built in the big world.     Glenn: Be sure and look me up when you come to Orlando, Donnie has my number.   Jackie: I’ll make sure all of that is in the show notes, any final thoughts?   Glenn: Everyone wants to be somebody, help them, don’t hang em!     Bye!   Here are a few other things you need to know about Glenn W Turner.   In that first company, Holiday Magic, Zig Ziglar was also a distributor but Glenn was outselling Zig so he didn’t go to Zig’s training classes. He was already making $30,000 monthly. According to Glenn, Zig told him he probably wouldn’t make it!   Glenn’s philosophy is to help someone get their money back and then it’s up to them. 30% will make it.   Whatever you put in your mind is what comes out. Episode 68: Inciting A Conventional Riot is a timely look at the ongoing conversation surrounding the controversy from the 2012 PantheaCon event that specifically excluded transgender women from a 'women-only' event. Special guest Sophia Catherine of the Divine Community podcast joins me to discuss the various aspects of the controversy and to provide some perspective on the issue. It should be noted: no specific conclusions or decisions, for lack of a better term, are reached in this episode. It would not be fair to make such assumptions, as all parties involved have not had a chance to speak. It should also be noted, however, that both Z. Budapest and the organizers of Pantheacon were contacted for interview and/or statement. Z. did not respond, and the one PantheaCon representative that was interested in speaking was later denied permission to speak by Glenn Turner, the head of PantheaCon. When I reached out for interviews, I contacted the 'programming' email address and the 'info' email address. A reply came from Jamie, the co-head of Programming for Pantheacon 2012. She was willing to give an interview if Glenn Turner, the chair of Pantheacon gave permission. I replied to both Glenn and Jamie, thanking them for their time and assuring them I would love the opportunity for them to speak for themselves rather than reading third party information online. This is the response I received this morning from Glenn: Hi Fire Lyte I'm sorry but Jamie is NOT authorized to speak for PantheaCon in an interview such as you suggest. I just got home yesterday at 4 pm and went straight to bed with  a sore throat. However I would NOT be interested in an interview today or likely any day. Words can too easily be taken out of context. Perhaps in a while, once I've had some time to finish my work with the Con and my shop, I can craft a statement. Personally, I wish the organizers would actually speak to the public, and further answer questions - or at least not stop someone who is willing to speak from doing so. However, that is their prerogative. Draw your own conclusions about what their decision not to speak on the matter means about the importance they place on the controversy at hand. Please send any thoughts on these issues to IncitingARiotPodcast@gmail.com. Love and Lyte, Fire Lyte
