Today's episode is a true crime story of Glenn Turner, Randy Thompson, and the woman who connects them, Lynn Turner.Lynn and Glenn were married less than a year after meeting. Glenn worshiped the ground Lynn walked on, doted on her hand and foot, and loved her with all his heart. Lynn cheated on Glenn, was abusive and controlling, and spent all their money. Glenn's family did not know why Glenn was with Lynn, and they were never able to see him free of her, because he passed after suffering from flu-like symptoms.Lynn moved in with Randy Thompson. Randy and Lynn had two children together, but their relationship was far from healthy, to the point that a judge even told them to stay away from each other. But they couldn't bring themselves to cut each other out of their lives, that is, until Randy suffered flu-like symptoms and passed away. Sounds suspicious, right? Well, Glen's mother thought so, too. So she made a call that had police second guessing everything they thought they knew. But first, Robin brings back Last-ish Words-ish for her Something Spooky!TW: Suicide and Domestic ViolenceSources: https://hauntedhospitality.wordpress.com/2023/09/26/ep-130-the-deaths-of-glenn-turner-and-randy-thompson/Visit us on Social Media! Episode 107 Michael Russell15 year-old Michael Russell of San Jose, CA was a typical teenager and high school student at Santa Teresa HS. He like other kids his age, was trying to find his way and fit in. He had dreams of starting a rock band. But when 2 of Michael's friends and classmates came to his home on November 10, 2009, Michael's life would be taken, and his dreams wiped out. Those two young men 16 year old Jae Williams, and 15 year old Randy Thompson attacked Michael in a pre-planned blitz, stabbing Michael and slashing his throat before fleeing the scene. Michael's uncle found him, but it was too late to save Michael. Police quickly zeroed in on the two killers and they were taken into custody. The investigation revealed that the pair had planned the murder for weeks, and it came to light that the 2 self described Satanists had even tortured and murdered animals. They showed little to no remorse and were sentenced to lengthy prison sentences after being found guilty of Michael's murder. Incredibly, a new law SB-1391 aimed at reducing the sentences of offenders under age 16, was enacted and it means that Randy Thompson may walk free at any time now, and that's a thought that has re-opened old wounds for Michael's family.Michael's aunt Kari discusses that law, Michael's murder, and his all too short life in this episode. The construction industry has the 2nd highest rate of suicide in the U.S. Globally, the numbers aren't much better. Construction is a tough job for a lot of reasons: time spent away from family, seasonal wage fluctuations, physical injuries, substance abuse, and a "suck it up" culture that can silence any cries for help. But, it doesn't have to be that way. In this special episode of The Real MF'ers, Randy Thompson from LivingWorks joins Scott Peper to share a message of hope for the entire industry. To shift the culture of the industry, all it takes is business owners and leaders (like YOU!) to start talking about the importance of mental health and suicide prevention. This week for Motivation Monday, The Dudes Talk about unifying your vision - an important piece to developing your culture and creating staff buy-in.MONDAY MOTIVATION - YOUR SUCCESS MANTRA: Mindset is EVERYTHING and belief, reinforced, becomes Reality! YOUR Mindset helps your team meet your goals. Over the years, there was not a huge amount of variance in the overall performance of our agencies based on the level of day to day work we as leaders put in as operators: answering the phone, doing endorsements, solving client problems, addressing challenges. We could put in 60 hours, still have plenty to do, and in looking at agency KPIs, not move the needle along at all. The role of the leader is not to be mired down in the day to day details. Imagine if Warren Buffet was at the Geico call center answering calls! You ARE your agency’s Warren Buffet. Own it! Once we understood the importance of finding people who could and would fill in the gaps in areas where our time was being spent fruitlessly, when we were able to set aside our egos, and delegate responsibilities and empower team members, using processes and systems, productivity soared. Between Us, we have 5 locations, and two commercial buildings, writing over 700 policies a month, I have more freedom than ever to pursue the goals and dreams we have always wanted to. Busy is way different than effective.Managing processes instead of people takes a lot of pressure off of the business owner. If the PROCESS isn’t being handled, we will have conversations around how the most important metrics aren’t being met and then rectify. Or ultimately, we will make a change. While we have felt bad over the years letting people go, ultimately it’s on them. If the expectations are properly set, and the accountability for those activities and results are consistently measured, repeated failure is not the fault of the leader, if they’re inspecting what they expect. So this leads us to Motivation Monday. We will bring it for you weekly. Our commitment is to bring a Golden Nugget of wisdom which you use to inspire your team, and to help you be the most effective leader possible. We will bring quotes, books, and other wisdoms from all places, in order to help keep you laser-beam focused and motivated, so that you can motivate and make it rain for your team.

Last summer, founder Lindsey Barrow got word that their beloved theater was going to be demolished to make room for condos -- in 3 months! They would not only have to scramble to find a new space, but come up with the funds to make the move. In the coming weeks, Lindsey and her dedicated team would come to find out just how supportive their incredible community really is.

In 2017, Randy Thompson was charged with first-degree driving while impaired (DWI) after a Red Lake tribal police officer at a hospital on the Red Lake Indian Reservation observed Thompson driving while impaired and took custody of him. Because Thompson is not a member of the Red Lake Band of the Chippewa Indians, the tribal police officer contacted the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and transferred custody of Thompson to local law enforcement authorities for criminal prosecution. Thompson filed a pretrial suppression motion arguing that his arrest by the tribal police officer was unlawful because the officer lacked any authority to arrest him for violating a Minnesota state law on the Red Lake Indian Reservation. The district court denied the suppression motion and Thompson was convicted. Although the court of appeals concluded that the tribal police officer did not qualify as a peace officer under Minn. Stat. § 169A.03, subd. 18 (2018), and there was no evidence in the record to show that the tribal police officer had concurrent jurisdiction under Minn. Stat. § 626.93 (2018), the court of appeals determined that the tribal police officer had inherent authority to detain Thompson and transfer custody to local law enforcement authorities for criminal prosecution. Therefore, the court of appeals affirmed Thompson’s conviction. On appeal to the supreme court, the issue is whether the tribal police officer had authority to take custody of Thompson for violating a Minnesota state law on the Red Lake Indian Reservation and transfer custody of Thompson to local law enforcement authorities for criminal prosecution. (Beltrami County)
From politics to angel investing, Randy Thompson has blazed a colorful path. His many years in early stage finance earned him the 2018 Angel Investor Of The Year Award by the National Angel Capital Organization. What I like about this interview is that Randy tells it as it is… Our discussion meanders, but it is an entertaining look at early stage financing. For example, Randy speaks from experience that it is not usually the investors that suck, it's likely your deal that sucks. So why is that? We dig in to how entrepreneurs can and need to be competitive when compared to other deals on an international stage. You'll also hear about how he approaches building investable deals. This preparation is a crucial factor in setting yourself up for long term success. We didn't get deep into the academic quant talk, but Randy has provided access to some of the materials he's created for helping value your deal, calculate dilution and position yourself to be a hot candidate for investor dollars… That info is available in the show notes. If anyone is offended by a few four letter words, perhaps pass on this one. Otherwise, enjoy the show!

It is according to my guest today a radio sport, one that has international competitors who have the experience and training of Olympic athletes in the sport of ham radio contesting. Randy Thompson, K5ZD, was bitten by the radio sport bug early in his ham radio career and is one of the top contesters in the World today. Randy is my guest on QSO Today.
I met Andy the same day I interviewed Randy Thompson. Randy said you have to talk to this guy.
