Jonathan Thomas and guests examine the life and legacy of Pope Francis, from his beginnings in Buenos Aires to his leadership as the head of the Catholic Church. The passing of the 88 year old Pontiff this week came the day after he offered his final Apostolic Blessing on Easter Sunday. Francis famously told all priests to be “shepherds with the smell of the sheep," to connect and empathise with the people they serve. Thousands flocked to Rome for his funeral yesterday; a public reaction that has been echoed globally. We hear of the public response to his death from those visiting St David's Metropolitan Cathedral in Cardiff, and a group of young pilgrims visiting Rome. And we explore the hallmarks of Pope Francis' pontificate. How he will be remembered by both his supporters and critics? We look ahead to the conclave – the election of a new Pope – and the global significance of this at a pivotal time in the Church. With contributions from:Archbishop Mark O'Toole, who mas made a Bishop by Pope Francis; Catherine Pepinster, a former editor of The Tablet (the Catholic Journal), and religious commentator Fr Michael Doyle, Dean of the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St. David, Cardiff Fr Matt Roche Saunders, Director Director of Youth Mission, based in Cardiff who travelled to Rome this week with a group of young pilgrims
Welcome back to my bi-weekly show ‘e:LevaT:e' on Data Transmission Radio! The first half of this show is a Miami Music Week special, featuring my favourite picks from MWA compilations that have been released over the last couple of months specially ahead of Miami. I wasn't able to make it out there unfortunately (one day maybe!), but always love looking out for the new releases on label samplers that come out around this time of year. The mix features tracks on labels such as 13 Records, Jackie's Music, 1980 Recordings, Klaphouse Records and many more. For the second half of the show, I wanted to play a chunk of my promo mix that I put together for Summer-ized Sessions. It may not be Miami, but I'm super excited to make my debut for them in Brixton at the Prince of Wales (POW) on Saturday 26th April, playing the opening set supporting DJ SKT & Piero Pirupa (tickets available here: https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/London/The-Prince-Of-Wales/Summer-ized-Sessions-Day--Night-w-Piero-Pirupa--DJ-SKT/40789220/) This mix features a tonne of groovy warm up vibes with tracks from Shonky, St David, Erik Bo, Rizz and more. Thanks so much for tuning in and feel free to drop a comment to let me know which tunes you're feeling :) x Leigh Taurean x ⚡️Like the Show? Click the [Repost] ↻ button so more people can hear it!

‘I try to live my life as though I were stitching together a book of songs.' This week, Sally offers us a tour through the stitched-together songs of her life, reflecting on the form of rhapsody. Join her for a series of vignettes on art, education, memory, and connection. This text of this episode is based on an address Sally gave at Wadham College Chapel, part of an evening of ‘Taking Heart in Poetry & Song' for St David's Day. More information can be found here. The full text of Dylan Thomas' poem, ‘The force that through the green fuse drives the flower', quoted early in the episode can be found here. The wonderful piano music in the opening and closing sections is, respectively, ‘Tuesday' and ‘Saturday' by Paul Sebastian. This episode was edited and produced by James Bowen. Special thanks to Andrew Smith, Violet Henderson, Kris Dyer, and Maeve Magnus.
When British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer sat down with Donald Trump in the Oval Office, a letter from King Charles with a very special invitation set the meeting off on just the right note. But after Volodymyr Zelenskyy's fiery run-in with the US President the next day, he was given a warm welcome by the King at Sandringham at short notice. Pod Save the King host Ann Gripper is joined by Mirror royal editor Russell Myers to discuss the King's big political week. They also discuss Meghan's new Netflix show and share listeners' reviews, as well as reflecting on Prince William's poignant visit to the Royal Berkshire Hospital five years on from Covid and his video message in Welsh for St David's Day. The Prince and Princess of Wales faced an unexpected travel hiccup as they made their way to Wales ahead of St David's Day, with their journey disrupted by severe weather. Arriving by train, the couple were delayed by around an hour due to flooding, a result of the recent storms that have battered the region.Despite the setback, William and Kate arrived in Pontypridd, where they received a warm welcome from the local community. Their visit saw them engaging with residents affected by the severe flooding caused by Storm Bert and Storm Darragh, which hit within the span of two weeks late last year.
