Psalm 137 is A song of lament, oath, & oracle.  This is a Psalm acknowledging situations where it is excruciating to sing. The psalmist is in exile but his heart is in Zion.  This is a song Nehemiah could sing as he wept in the courts of Artaxerxes' Persian controlled Babylon.  Nehemiah was a respected official who had the ear and the favor of an emperor, yet his affections called Jerusalem home (Neh 1:3-9). Nehemiah's contentment was tied to the fortunes of Zion: the status of covenant relations between God & God's people.  In his anguish our author lifts his appeal to The Great Judge of the nations.  The refrain spares no weight as the Psalmist finds consolation in the comprehensive judgements of a Holy God.

Jews do the work of their father the devil. They murder and kill like their father. The Jews are the hands and feet and mouthpiece of Satan on earth. Jews are exactly the anti-Christ that Scripture warns us about. Jews slandered the prophets, the Messiah and the Christians of the early Church. Jews murdered the prophets, the Messiah, and the Christians of the early church. Jews are experts at portraying themselves as victims while they lie and murder. Jews are not the chosen of God. Jews do no not have eternal life. "Is Jesus the Prince of Peace, or the Great Judge?" The source is a video recording of a speech delivered by Dr. D. Todd Harrison, in which he argues that the common understanding of Jesus Christ as solely loving and merciful is incomplete. According to Dr. Harrison, a true understanding of Jesus Christ includes his role as a judge who executes divine punishment upon the wicked. Dr. Harrison supports his argument by referring to a passage in Luke's Gospel in which Jesus states that he came to bring division, not peace, and that he would be crucified by the wicked for the sins of the world. Dr. Harrison asserts that the true gospel of Jesus Christ divides people, rather than unites them, and that this division is evident in the fact that many families are broken up when people join the true Christian church. He concludes by saying that Jesus Christ will soon come to destroy the wicked and bring world peace.

I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose. — Galatians 2:21 CALL OUT: Today, our callout goes to Shawn Wilson from Fruit Cove, FL, a new member of the website. Thanks for your partnership with us. Returning to yesterday's devotional, we learned that we live by faith. Faith in Jesus both saves and sustains us. Paul's follow-up today is that thinking that we can add anything to Jesus's accomplished work other than faith alone nullifies the greatness of God's grace and the purpose for which Jesus died. The bottom line is we need grace. Grace is our only hope when we stand condemned before the Great Judge because, in matters of salvation, grace is all we have. We are guilty and sinful to the core, trapped by inescapable guilt. Therefore, trying to work our way out when there is no way out is a waste of time. Moreover, it's equally foolish to reject grace and pretend like we don't need it. So stop wasting your time, stop nullifying God's grace, and accept it. Don't reject it. That is not noble. It's stupid. To reject it is to deny the very thing you need to receive. #GraceAlone #SalvationThroughFaith #NullifyingGrace #RejectingGodsGrace #FaithVsWorks ASK THIS: How can we ensure that we're truly relying on God's grace alone for our salvation, rather than trying to earn it through our own efforts? In what areas of our lives do we find ourselves tempted to rely on our own works or achievements instead of fully embracing the grace of God? How can we shift our perspective to trust in His grace more fully? DO THIS: Stop rejecting God's grace. PRAY THIS: Father, help me to grasp the depth of Your grace and to fully trust in it for my salvation, knowing that nothing I do can earn Your love. Guide me away from the temptation to rely on my own efforts and lead me to rest in Your unending grace. Amen. PLAY THIS: Grace Got You.

A Word With You

A few years back, there was some things in the news about a lot of grumpy prime ministers and presidents. Yeah. Well, there was a reason. It seemed the U.S. was allegedly dropping in on their phone calls uninvited. Now, I'm not sure what all prime ministers and presidents talk about, but they obviously did not like being snooped on. But then, who does? I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Nothing To Hide." We keep hearing about government agencies listening in on a lot of us, you know, and we're not prime anythings. Makes you kind of feel violated and vulnerable. Facebook can change their privacy policy, and other social media outlets. But they are increasingly making "personal information" an oxymoron. With the snooping and archiving technologies of our time, seems like there's hardly any such thing as a secret anymore. It's troubling. But it's not as troubling if you have the wonderful freedom that comes from being able to say three little words, "Nothing to hide." Go ahead. You can listen, watch, dig up. I'm not afraid. I have nothing to hide. Which is a good way to live even if no one ever listens in. For example, if I'm driving the speed limit, no worries about a police car. I don't have to look obsessively in the rear view mirror. Nope, I can thoroughly enjoy the view ahead. I can't get caught if there's nothing to catch, right? Sometimes the Bible strikes me pretty funny. Like when it says this, "The wicked man flees though no one pursues." Can't you just picture this guy's always looking over his shoulder, even though there's no one there? Of course, on the flip side, the Bible says, "The man of integrity walks securely." Of course he does. Nothing to hide. Mark Twain said, "If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember what you said." Good idea. People who just tell it straight have no fear of being caught in a lie. If you're faithful to your mate, there's no double life to be found out. No visiting porn sites? Well, then go ahead and check my emails all you want. No financial games? Well, no worries about someone finding the numbers don't add up. And there's great freedom when you know there's nothing you're hiding in the dark. Because in a world where it seems someone is always watching or listening, you never know when someone may turn on the light. In reality, someone already has. In our word today from the Word of God, Hebrews 4:13, it says, "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before His eyes, and He is the one to whom we are accountable." I have no secrets from God. Romans 2:16 says, "God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ." All the dark stuff in my heart, my mind, my relationships, my actions; all there on the evidence table when I stand defenseless before the Great Judge. Except for one thing that changes everything. The Bible says, "We have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He Himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins" (1 John 2:1-2). So, God knows every sin of my life. Jesus paid for every sin of my life with His blood on the cross. I'll never have to face my sins. I'll never have to face God's judgment. Jesus already did, because He loves me enough to die for me. I'm amazed! I'm forgiven. And I wish that great relationship with Jesus for you; to know that every wrong thing of your life erased from God's Book forever; that you will never meet your sin when you meet God on Judgment Day. That you, in fact, will be ready to enter His heaven because your sin has been put under the blood of His Son, Jesus. Do you want that? Well, then tell Jesus that; that you believe He died for your sin, that you're His from today on. Our website would be a great next destination for you. It's all about how to begin that relationship. The website is ANewStory.com. And today you could begin to walk out in the light where there's nothing to hide.

Scripture For Today:1 Corinthians 11:13“Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head covered?”What John Had to Say About Prayer pt 2Yesterday, we started to look at what the Apostle John has to say about prayer. Today, I want to look at what John wrote about the teaching of Jesus in the Gospel of John, Chapter 15 and verse 7: “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will and it shall be done unto you.”  Notice what these words say. They correspond directly with what we read yesterday in First John 5:14-15:   “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us; and if we know that he hears us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”  In other words, if we know God hears our prayer and our petitions, then we can KNOW (which the Amplified Bible says, “We can have the assured confidence” that we HAVE the petition that we desired of Him.  I've taught on the “Prayer of Petition” before – extensively. I'm not going to launch out into a deep teaching on it again. Go back in the archives and look it up. But, for those that may not have heard that teaching, or for those that need a refresher, let me just explain the concept to you… First, to present a petition before God to have a particular need met, whether it is healing for you or a loved one; whether it concerns finances or employment or whatever, you must be VERY SPECIFIC. This is not one of those “general prayers” that you pray during your prayer time.  You need to go about it like a lawyer presenting a case before a judge in court. In fact, you are presenting your case before the Great Judge. God Himself. Amen! Just as a lawyer would take hours to prepare a case that he or she would present before the Supreme Court of the land, you should take your time and prepare your prayer of petition. That means looking up EVERY scripture that has anything at all to do with your situation. Every single scripture. Write them down, by hand (not on the computer).  Why? Because by writing them each by hand, you must mentally read and then write the scripture out. This reinforces the scripture in your mind. Then, you write out your “petition.” What are you asking God for? What is it you want Him to do? What is the “ruling” you want Him to issue in regards to your petition? You then state your case in a summary statement right up front. Maybe something similar to: “Father God, I request you heal my body of this (cancer or whatever it is). I know you have healed others in the past that have had the same thing. I know you honor your Word. In fact, there have been other cases in which you have issued this type of ruling from your Word. In the following situations, your Word says:  (and then you list every single instance and scripture reference you found in your research). Then, finish it off by saying, I pray all of this IN THE NAME OF JESUS. That is a quick summary of the Prayer of Petition.  Do not rush this. It may take you a week to write it out. It may take you an hour or more to pray. That's OK. That's the way it should be! Now, I want to pray for you…  Let's Pray! A Wonderful Day in the Lord

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 22, 2021 5:35

We have been looking at the two witnesses. Remember in Revelation 9 we had the sixth Trumpet Judgment sounded. Then the action kind of stops and the timeline doesn't move forward throughout Revelation 10:1-11:14. These next events take place somewhere in that period of time, but we don't know exactly when necessarily. We do believe they occur in the first half of the Tribulation. We come to Revelation 11:14 that says, “The second woe is past; behold, the third woe is coming quickly.” The first woe was the fifth Trumpet Judgment. The second woe was the sixth Trumpet Judgment and now the final woe is the seventh Trumpet Judgment. He is calling them woes because of the devastation and the importance of these judgments. Now, the chronology picks up and we are going back to where we were. I think our best understanding is that the midpoint of the Tribulation has now taken place at this point. With the sounding of the seventh Trumpet Judgment, we are now entering into the second half of the Tribulation, sometimes called the Great Tribulation. The antichrist has killed his antagonists – the two witnesses. He now has free reign over the earth and things are getting more intense and more difficult and uglier as time progresses. We pick up in Revelation 11:15, “Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying.” So, as this Trumpet Judgment is sounded, there are four events that are going to be described for us that take place at that time. 1. The reign of God, or Christ, begins. It says, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever.” Now, we know that our Lord is sovereign. He has always ruled, but over the history of humanity going back to the fall of Adam and Eve, the Lord has allowed Satan to be the god of this age. He has allowed humanity to have certain reign and privileges and has allowed them to sin basically whenever they want. The Lord is going to bring that to a close here. Remember in the Lord's Prayer we pray, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven?” They were witnessing the finalization of that prayer in a very real sense. The Lord's kingdom is coming. We know that according to the book of Revelation there are some very significant events to come, but we are getting very close to the end here and we find that the angels in heaven are rejoicing over the reign of Christ. 2. The second event is the reaction of heaven to this. 3. Revelation 11:16, “And the twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God.” We find the twenty-four elders fall on their faces, as they seem to do often, and worship God. They worship God for at least two different reasons here. a. First, for His sovereignty as Revelation 11:17 says, “We give you thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty who are and who were, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to reign.” They're praising God and worshiping God because of His sovereign power in which now He is stepping up to begin to reign over the earth. So, they are excited about that. They are worshiping God for that. b. Secondly, they worship Him because He is the Great Judge. The eternal and perfect judge. Revelation 11:18 says, “And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.” Notice they worship God because He is the perfect judge . . .

However, if we could cry loud with the word of God and spare not, tell the truth and not be afraid we all will see a change. Man can not change the minds of man, but God and his word have the power to change any and everything.

The Day of Atonement is an appointed time of God that reminds us to live lives that are holy, for we will all one day stand before God and be judged for every idle word we have spoken (Matt 12:36, 2 Cor 5:10). But also, we need to be reminded that God Himself will be the Great Judge. While we are to judge matters in our life righteously (John 7:24), Jesus spoke of the pointing of the finger often: That the measure we use to judge others will be measured back to us on that day of judgment. Introspection, therefore, is needed: Have we judged others absolutely righteously, accurately, and even with the same grace and patience our Father has afforded us? If not, we may disqualify ourselves from that grace we desire and certainly need on the Great Day. "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye" (Matthew 7:5)

WEEK 1 INTRODUCTIONEvery one of us, no matter our history, context, or experience, has some idea of what we think about God. Is He real? Does He exist? Did He create everything and then disappear, or does He remain involved in creation and participate in it? For some, He is the Great Judge waiting to strike them dead if they get out of bounds. For others,He is the cosmic Santa Claus or emergency response team - ready to respond with gifts or rescue when called upon. Still, for others, He is the cruel, negligent, and unworthy One who is to blame for the disaster that has become the human world. The problem is that none of our ideas can be entirely accurate, for He is so far above and beyond our capacity to understand that our images and words cannot adequately capture Him. We cannot fully grasp, nor therefore describe, His majesty, glory, endlessness, and power. Our three pounds of human brain simply cannot comprehend the depth and breadth of God. Therefore, God must reveal Himself to us if we are to know Him with any accuracy at all.

What you are doing now determines what you do next. In this session at the HRTWAM 2019 International teen camp in Costa Rica, Joel Sanchez of Crucified Life Ministries briefly shares about the importance of discipleship, mission, and purpose. The Messiah in Matthew 28 doesn’t command us to be a disciple, His command is disciple others. There are no if’s and’s or but’s about it. Are we obeying or disobeying His command? On judgement day as we stand before Y’shua, the Great Judge, we better be able to account for what we did with His commandments while we were on this ball of dirt.

SOWING SEEDS AND DEEDS OF GREATNESS - MERCY

Mary Lindow ~ The Messenger Podcast

Then he  (Jesus) added, "Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: 'I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.' For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, But those who know they are sinners." Matthew 9:13   It has been said that after the French Revolution, a certain convict that was released on parole traveled the countryside in search of a new beginning. Being an ex-con, as you would expect, led to complications in this search, and he wound up at the gates of a clergyman who agreed to host him for the night. The convict, as is well known, takes advantage of the bishop’s generosity: getting up early before dawn, he takes off with the bishop’s silver; his escape however is hindered by the local Police Inspector, who after seemingly catching him presents the presumed thief to the bishop for identification. The bishop, without missing a beat, covers for his sneaky guest and speaks such words of kindness over the convict’s past present and future, through releasing him even though caught red handed and deserving of further punishment. His words? They were profound and dripped of Mercy.   "My friend, you forgot to take the candlesticks as well."   For those of you who are perhaps not familiar with the story about the convict/man and the priest I just spoke of, I am referring to Victor Hugo’s book “ Les Miserables.” I think Victor Hugo shows something of the challenge of today’s Message of the Gospel that Jesus would want us each to hear and to act upon. "Be merciful, as your Father is merciful." -Luke 6:36   NOBODY LIKES A BULLY OR TO BE TALKED DOWN TO. Maybe it is easy for us to be merciful when we have the upper hand.  If someone comes begging for forgiveness, it becomes a show–of generosity of spirit, but a show nonetheless–that we are in some way better than that person. Picture elegant royals, who, moments before the execution of a criminal would decree their royal pardon, leaving a lasting impression of compassion upon those pleading for another chance.   THIS IS NOT THE WAY GODLY MERCY WORKS. Oh how merciful is our Father! It’s not that our faults are not important to an immeasurable God. We have without a doubt deeply wounded the ties that bind us to him. Yet he still holds out his hand, bloodied and deformed holes in them, created by the nails put in, even to his enemies.   TODAY JESUS INVITES US TO RE-EVALUATE OUR MERCY: How deeply do I forgive those who offend me? Do I pray for them, or allow my forgiveness to become a show of winning the upper hand?  (Another way of showing false humility.) The forgiving priest not only forgave Jean Valjean’s theft, he created an excuse for him, and even gave away the last of his own treasure, in the hopes that Valjean would be able to start a new life, knowing that he was shown the purest of love and authentic mercy.   MERCY MEANS… Empathy, pity, sympathy, understanding; favor, grace; benevolence, care, compassion, gentleness, goodness, goodwill, humaneness, kindliness, meekness, mildness, niceness, softness, tenderness; generosity, affection, devotion, love, worship   IT ALSO MEANS… …Letting go of harshness, accusation, presuming you know better what others need in order for them to better serve God. When we act out like this, we become much like Javert the Police Inspector hounding and lording it over Jean Valjean, bent on making sure all deeds that do not measure up to our way of justice are fully dealt with. He felt sure that God wanted him to be the individual who would measure out justice and harsh terms of punishment in order to break John Valejan, thus having him pay the price of his wickedness and perchance if once finally shattered and broken, he may perhaps have God look his way .   "DON'T GET MAD -- GET EVEN?” This seems to be the usual way people view the world nowadays. We should be thankful that God takes a different view of things. Although the Bible makes it clear that God is the Great Judge who hates all evil doing, he is also the Merciful One, who forgives and accepts people who turn to him. Occasionally God chooses not to grant us mercy; for the purpose of judgment, rebuke, discipline, or testing. Fortunately, for most of us, this is the exception, not the rule.  For the time being, God has shown incredible patience and mercy by withholding most of the effects of our sins. I will have mercy, on whom I will have mercy, And I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion." Rom 9:15     GOD IS NOT ALWAYS SCOLDING US! "He will not always chide: neither will he keep his anger forever." Psalm 103:9 Could God find reasons to scold His children all the time? Indeed, He could! None of us are perfect. We could all do better. However, as justified as scolding us would be, God realizes that we would easily be discouraged if all we ever heard was scolding. When He scolds us He is correcting us so that we confess our sins and do better. "The Lord All-Powerful says, “They belong to me; on that day they will be my very own. As a parent shows mercy to his child who serves him, I will show mercy to my people." Malachi 3:17   ASK GOD FOR THE HELP YOU NEED TO OVERCOME SIN. Face the reality that much of the suffering in our fallen world is caused by human sin.   But count on the fact that God is merciful toward all sinners. Whenever you recognize a situation in which some of your own sin has contributed to your suffering, pray for help, and God will give you the strength you need to overcome sin. Stop holding onto any sinful secrets that have been causing guilt, shame and bitterness in your soul. Confess your sins specifically, repent of them, accept the forgiveness that God offers you, and embrace the power that God gives you to move forward into a better life.   LISTEN FOR GOD SPEAKING IN THE SILENCE. When your suffering becomes so painful that you can’t make any sense of it or figure out how to endure it, you may feel as if you’re trapped in silence, since nothing that other people say or do to try to help actually breaks through to you. But when you’re at the point where you don’t hear anything else, you can actually hear God best, since you’re less likely to get distracted by the world’s noise around you. In the silence, pour out your thoughts and feelings to God in prayer, and then listen to what He has to say to you. God won’t shout, but He will whisper, to encourage you to keep drawing closer to Him.   SUFFERING IS ALL AROUND YOU IN THIS FALLEN WORLD. Sometimes it’s so tragic that it’s heartbreaking. Yet, God promises that He is loving and merciful. How can you reconcile these two realities that seem like they compete against each other? The key is to look for God’s mercy, even when it seems like it can’t exist with the suffering you encounter. God’s mercy is a stronger force than even the worst suffering, and when you look for it, you’ll find it. The spirit, which he sent to live in us, wants us for him alone. James 4:5   WE ARE GOD’S OWN. LET US NOT BE AFRAID TO BE LIKE OUR FATHER.   Let our hearts be conduits of God’s mercy, knowing that we ourselves have been forgiven so very much. Let us communicate our thanks to Him by being overflowing vessels of kind and tender expression, showing God’s mercy to all.   The Lord is kind and shows mercy. He does not become angry quickly But is full of love.
