The global economy is constantly evolving with forces like Automation, Robotics and artificial intelligence redefining the global workforce and how businesses drive growth and innovation at scale.   As the Magnificent Seven Tech giants lay off tens of thousands of people leveraging AI to drive out repetitive, mundane tasks, the labor force is challenged to broaden their skillset and redefine their value to stay relevant.  Getting an understanding of what is happening in the economy on both a global and a national level has never been more important. In this episode of The Reboot Chronicles Show, we're joined by economist and commentator Peter Morici to help make sense of the forces driving today's economic landscape. Peter is one of America's most unfiltered and respected economic voices. He has served as Chief Economist at the U.S. International Trade Commission, authored 18 books, and is a familiar guest on CNN, Fox Business, CNBC, and Newsmax. He brings perspective with a historical lens towards economic cycles that infuse logic and experience to help navigate uncertain times.  This is precisely why we wanted Peter on the program. To unpack what's really happening beneath the headlines. To gain insights on how to advance during this consequential AI moment and take advantage of the tremendous opportunity to Reboot to stay relevant.

>> Lucrecia Dalt – A Danger To Ourselves (RVNG. Intl.) For the Glory KC
While Imperfect, Sporting KC's Tactics Showed Promise Versus Colorado

For the Glory KC

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 1, 2025 99:06

For the Glory KC is back with the 144th episode of the show!Sporting Kansas City broke a nearly two-month winless streak on Saturday night against the Colorado Rapids. The streak went back to their last win, also against the Rapids, on July 4th in Commerce City. And while "winless" is technically right, it was worse than that. Between victories over Colorado, Sporting KC were 0-5-1, with just a single draw against NYCFC.The defense was still flawed, and defense often starts further up the field, so there is blame to go around. Colorado should have scored far more than the two goals they put in, if not for outstanding individual efforts from John Pulskamp, Robert Voloder and Ian James. But it was something else that stood out on Saturday. With Manu Garcia still unavailable due to injury, Kerry Zavagnin finally used Santiago Munoz as a straight up #10. You could call it a second striker, but he was floating all over creating opportunities. He was involved in so many attacking sequences and seemed to unlock Sporting KC's creativity. Not every sequence ended with a shot, but there was so much promise.Another move I've been asking for is not starting all three strikers together. It leaves no impact subs on the bench to play forward. With Mason Toye starting on the bench, it was a combination of him subbing on and Santi unlocking the midfield that led to the game winning goal. Munoz played a perfect ball to Toye to finished with precision to push SKC over the line for their seventh win of the season.Of course, Sheena and I talked about a lot more Sporting KC happenings in this episode, including:Our favorite goal of the night (there were so many good candidates)Pulskamp heroicsThat James save off the line!Daniel Salloi showing man strengthInternational callups and so much moreThe KC Current did what we basically expect them to do at this point. Just keep winning. They've won twice since our last podcast and clinched a playoff spot. They aren't that far away from locking up the NWSL Shield. But ultimately, the season will be defined by what they do in the playoffs. In this episode, Paul Merriman shares insights into upcoming events, including his presentation at the Garrett Planning Network Retreat, as well as his reflections on asset allocation, government bond strategies, and the benefits of various portfolios for different life stages. Tune in for a deep dive into how different funds and asset classes perform over the long term, and how to optimize your investment strategy, regardless of age or risk tolerance.Key Topics Covered:1. Long-Term Returns ComparisonPaul compares two small-cap value funds: the Vanguard Small Cap Value Fund (VSIAX) and the DFA Small Cap Value Fund (DFFVX). To find long-term returns for these funds, Paul uses Morningstar's chart function, which allows users to view the maximum (MAX) historical data for any given fund, helping to compare the performance of these funds since their inception 2. Best Asset Allocation for RetireesThe best asset allocation for retirees typically depends on individual factors, such as risk tolerance and life expectancy. Generally, Paul suggests a moderate equity allocation of 40-60% in stocks, with the rest in fixed income, for retirees who have enough saved up to comfortably fund their retirement .3. Asset Allocation for an 83-Year-Old RetireeFor an 83-year-old retiree, Paul discusses a more conservative portfolio with two-thirds in bonds and one-third in equities. This conservative approach, which mirrors the allocation in Vanguard's target-date funds, aligns well with retirees who are less reliant on aggressive growth but still need some equity exposure to combat inflation .4. Why Use Three Government Bond Funds?Paul advocates for a diversified bond strategy that includes TIPS (Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities), short-term government bonds, and intermediate-term government bonds. This combination offers a balance of safety, growth potential, and reduced volatility compared to using just one bond fund, and provides a more stable return over time.5. How the Worldwide 4 Fund Portfolio WorksThe Worldwide 4 Fund Portfolio is structured with 25% in large-cap blend (U.S), 25% in large-cap value (INTL), 25% in small-cap blend (INTL), and 25% in small-cap value (U.S.), giving you a diversified mix of U.S. and international equities. This approach optimizes for both size and value, ensuring a balanced exposure to market growth, volatility, and global investment opportunities.6. Should a 26-Year-Old Use the 2 Funds for Life Portfolio Yes, a 26-year-old could benefit from the 2 Funds for Life Portfolio, which typically includes the A TARGET DATE FUND and a small-cap value fund. This strategy allows young investors to focus on equity growth, benefiting from the long-term appreciation potential of small-cap value stocks while minimizing risks associated with bonds at an early stage7. Managing the 2 Funds for Life Portfolio with S&P 500 & Small-Cap Value For someone using only the S&P 500 and small-cap value fund, Paul suggests a flexible allocation approach. You might start with a 50/50 split, or adjust according to your risk tolerance. Please forward this to ONE friend today and tell them to subscribe here.In this episode, I am speaking with Ritika Saraswat, Founder & CEO of Re-Defined, a members-only community for international students by international students. The past 18 months haven't been exactly fair to international students in Canada. They've been blamed, labelled, and threatened. They've had to deal with policy changes, uncertainty, and expiring permits. And while all that sounds depressing, Ritika has a refreshing take on all the chaos: Come to Canada. Learn. Make new friends. Build connections. And if you get the chance to stay and contribute, great. If not, take what you've learned back home. I know this is easier said than done. You probably have nothing to go back to back home. You probably can't even afford to relocate back home. But where there's a will, there sometimes is a way.In this conversation, Ritika and I chat about why international students need to focus on what they control. We also explore:* How to get feedback from your Canadian colleagues or counterparts* Why playing the long game matters more when planning to immigrate* Why you can't afford feeling like a victim as an immigrant* What she's learned after seven years in Canada* Why she thinks immigrants have a responsibility to come prepared, do their research, and contribute to their new societyOfficial Links✅ Connect with Ritika Saraswat on LinkedIn✅ Join the Re-Defined communityOne AskIf you found this story helpful, please forward or share it to one immigrant out there.Join us as we explore the bitter-sweet world of the immigrant. The SPIEF has transformed from a place where black caviar is eaten with spoons and escort girls dance into the country's main opposition event this year to a much gloomier event.Putin's Minister of Economy says that the country is on the brink of recession. Gref notes that the economy is worse than expected. Deputy Makarov speaks directly about triubles in the investment climate. And that's not all.For the first time at this level, everything that Vladimir Milov was talking about for weeks is being voiced by Putin's cohorts. Against this background, Putin looks inadequate, who, perhaps, was the only one at the entire forum telling how wonderful everything is.The problems are only growing, and there is simply no way out of them. Money is running out at an incredible speed, there is nowhere to get new resources. The only opportunity looming on the horizon for Russia is the rise in oil prices due to the war between Israel and Iran, but even here, things are not so simple. A short-term rise in prices could lead to an even more serious decline in the global economy - and a sharp drop in oil prices in the long term. This - and much more - is covered in the latest economic report with Vladimir Milov.YouTube channel of Vladimir Milov: @Vladimir_MilovSupport Vlad's work:Patreon: / milov Crypto: http://milov.org/donate.htm /Vladimir Milov on other social media:Telegram: https://t.me/team_milov Facebook: /milov.vladimir Twitter: / v_milov Instaghram: /milov_ruEnglish translation by PrivateerStationOriginal video in Russian: https://youtu.be/Y6uKrm6xgqY--------------------------------------------------Privateer Station on Spreaker: https://www.spreaker.com/show/privateer-station-war-in-ukrainePS on Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-1582435PS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/privateerstationPS on iHeartRadio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/53-privateer-station-war-in-uk-101486106/PS on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5iEdf0Jyw1Y3kN04k8rPibPS on ApplePodcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/privateer-station-war-in-ukraine/id1648603352PS on Google Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuc3ByZWFrZXIuY29tL3Nob3cvNTY0NzQzOS9lcGlzb2Rlcy9mZWVkPS on PadcastAddict: https://podcastaddict.com/podcast/4079993PS on PodChaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/privateer-station-war-in-ukrai-4860097PS on Deezer: https://www.deezer.com/us/show/4546617PS on Castbox: https://castbox.fm/channel/id5162050If you like what we do and would like to support our channel, consider becoming a member:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT3qCbfcPbnph7QS3CPBTMQ/joinBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/privateer-station-war-in-ukraine--5647439/support.

Hello, I'd really like to grow this email list. If you enjoy this newsletter, it would mean the world to Jola and I if you encouraged one friend/fellow immigrant/colleague to subscribe…Very likely, the the only thing you will get in return is warm fuzzy feelings, and if I can attribute it to you, I'd personally send you a thank you email.Join us as we explore the bitter-sweet world of the immigrant. In this episode, I'm speaking with the amazing journo, Alyanna Denise Chua, who moved from Philippines to Canada in 2019 to study at University of Toronto. One of my biggest gripes with the dominant immigrant conversation is we often seem to disregard the human in the loop. Policies change overnight (for good reasons they say), and suddenly folks who have followed all the rules find themselves stranded. That is Alyanna's story. She moved to Canada, paid 10X the fees of domestic students to study, excelled academically, gained Canadian work experience, and integrated into the country. She did everything the immigration system told her to do. But by the time she graduated, Canada had moved the goalposts. The same pathway that led to permanent residency now led to... uncertainty. In this conversation, Alyanna and I explore what it felt like to watch the rules change. We also explore:* Missing home while building a new life* Immigrating as a student vs. a PR* Why Canada's rhetoric shifted from “we want you to stay” to “study doesn't guarantee residency”* The unfairness of retroactive rule changes* How Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie inspired her journalism careerOfficial Links✅ Connect with Alyanna Denise Chua on LinkedIn✅ Read her piece on The Walrus; Pay Tuition, Follow the Rules, Then Pack Your BagsOne AskIf you found this story helpful, please forward or share it to one immigrant out there. We discuss how the revenues would fund climate adaptation and resilience.  Also, the Trump Administration barred government scientists from attending a key UN climate science meeting in February 2025. What's more, it seems the customary US task force including officials from the State, Energy, Commerce and Transportation departments has not attended any meetings for the underlying UN climate treaty since the beginning of the Trump Administration. And a new study shows that crevasses or cracks on the Greenland Ice Sheet are widening more rapidly than expected due to climate change, which may accelerate ice loss and global sea level rise. Watch us on YouTube! If you enjoy the podcast, I hope you'll take a moment to leave us a rating. That helps us grow our audience! We're fielding a listener question from Ben in the Slack community on whether he should choose British Airways or American Airlines for business class home. That leads to a larger discussion about the best and worst business class seats, and whether you should pay more to get a better business class seat.   We're also getting a quick recap on Ed's trip to Europe before we dig into a recent letter from the founder of Bilt.   Richard answers Ed's questions about Bilt's financial model and also reveals some news that homeowners will like!   If you're looking for a way to support the show, we'd love to have you join us in our Travel Slack Community.  Join me and other travel experts for informative conversations about the travel world, the best ways to use your miles and points, Zoom happy hours and exciting giveaways.
