This is the one you've been screaming for! On this final episode of our Halloween-obsessed October, we're all about the movies. Specifically—horror movies (no shit?). And since the Music Box Theater has been terrorizing Chicago all month with their “Bride of Music Box of Horrors” series (not to mention last weekend's infamous, annual and SOLD OUT 24 hour horror marathon) — we thought we'd recruit the theater's sleep deprived general manager Ryan Oestreich to help us pick the BEST scary movies ever made. Did we succeed? Probably not. But here it is anyway. Happy Halloween!!!
Spooky Season has arrived! The next two months of podcasts will be filled with anniversaries and drafts to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. "Ed you're talking as if he were a human being!" Ed from 'The Film Effect Podcast' returns for his second dose of Halloween goodness by joining Sean to discuss the much-beloved? Halloween IV: The Return of Michael Myers (1988). Discussion Points: -Yes, Sean does these reviews just to do an impression of Donald Pleasence as Doctor Loomis. -Ed brings his best Steven Seagal impression. -The amount of love in the film community for this film. -Stew from Stew World Order sends in his rating for the film. -Ed brings fantastic trivia and insights into how the film was made. -Sean doesn't understand that Sheriff Brackett didn't move to the former Soviet Union. -Ed helps out put this film into context in the odd Halloween timeline(s). -Ed and Sean discuss an idea for why the mask is so white. -You're talking as if he were a human being Ed. -The pick-up shots to add more gore. -Loomis's change of direction. -The rushed production. -That uplifting ending. Raised Questions: -Do you consider this the second best instalment of the whole series? -Do you prefer the 'Earl and the Gang' or the 'Evil Dies Tonight lynch mob'? -Why can't Sean remember the Sheriff's name in this film? -Do you wish Halloween (2018) was called Halloween H40? -Would you watch Halloween: Overtime? -Is it generous to call this film a "smash sequel"? -Why does Ed keep talking as if Michael Myers were a human being? -Would you watch a Halloween film set in the summer with Michael sweating from his eye-holes? -Where were the risk assessments for that transfer ride? -Is it possible to discuss a Halloween film without discussing all the others? -Have you ever dipped your tie in coffee? -Would you watch Michael Myers versus The Winter Soldier? -What kind of a party where Rachel's parents at? Shout-Outs: -Josh from 'Talking SMAC (Superheroes, Movies, Animation and Comics) podcast. -The 'Stew World Order' podcast. -FilmFloggers' Halloween 4 review with Ben and Tom. Tonight's journey is unlike any other....not really -The Heavy breathing asthma demon is back! This time to delete the family bloodline...literally all of it, even the adoptive side. Drek is a little perturbed by the angle of the writers at this point, It feels as if they wanted so desperately to finish the Druid storyline. While He appreciates the lovely Danielle Harris' performance, it doesn't take away the question...Who the hell is Laurie's baby daddy? Surely it's not the creepy-ass EMT guy, Jimmy. Drek notices the Father to these children is never mentioned, and always hoped it was part of the plot, but sadly it's just inserted past time stories about his absence. This movie also starts the trend of Loomis going off the rails with his bat-shit crazy persona. He wonders if the directing advice was "Hey, you know how your character talks with crazy people for a living? Yea this time, become one." You'll see how insane and even indestructible Burnt cheek Loomis is as this movie progresses. Drek enjoys how crafty Michael is becoming in this film, He's becoming a serial killer Kevin Mccallister. The last 30 minutes of the movie was Michael primarily showboating, He made more human wall ornaments, tricked the Sheriff's daughter, and played even more shenanigans throughout this film! Key Notes: ⦁ Why is Michael only sending telepathic messages to Jamie, and never sent to Laurie? ⦁ Why is Loomis never reprimanded for his interference with investigations? ⦁ Who is Laurie Strode's baby daddy? ⦁ Why did Michael not slice and dice those bullies at Jamie's school? ⦁ How large is Laurie's family, by blood or not? ⦁ Did Loomis not notice Jamie's outfit easily resembled Michaels when he killed his sister in the '60s? ⦁ Why does Michael change his Mask every time he's on a family bloodline hunt? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/drekculazunderworld/support

Today I chat with Nicholas Grabowsky about the novelization of Halloween 4 and his treatment for Shocker 2. After working as an extra in Hollywood for such films as Masters of the Universe and Night of the Creeps, and pursuing a modelling career, Grabowsky became the acting coach to Walter Koenig, who introduced Nicholas to a New York publisher of mass market paperback novels. His first novel, Pray Serpent's Prey, a Christian allegory of vampires invading a small Montana town which Grabowsky began writing in high school, was accepted and published by Critic's Choice Paperbacks/Lorevan Publishing under the pseudonym Nicholas Randers. Grabowsky published subsequent works under the Randers name including The Rag Man and Tale of the Makeshift Faire before 1990, and romance novels and self-help books under the name Marsena Shane including Sweet Dreams Lady Moon, The Easy Way to Great Legs, Your Heart Belongs to You and June Park up until 1991, when he left his pseudonyms. He also wrote a commissioned sequel to Wes Craven's Shocker, which was never produced. In 1988, he wrote the novelization of Halloween IV, which was published under his real name and became a bestseller To find more of Nicholas Grabowsky's work go to https://downwarden.com or https://blackbedsheetbooks.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/followingfilms/support

Nicholas Grabowsky's novels of horror/fantasy, both as himself, as Nicholas Randers, and as Marsena Shane, have generated worldwide acclaim for over two decades and praised by many of today's most popular horror gurus in the literary world. He began his career in traditional publishing houses with brisk sellers in mass market paperback horror, and the last ten years have seen him hailed by many as a mentor and advocate to the smaller presses, which has become to him a passion. His body of work includes the award-winning macabre aliens-among-us epic The Everborn, The Rag Man, Pray Serpent's Prey, Halloween IV (and its special edition), Diverse Tales, Reads & Reviews and The Wicked Haze, Sweet Dreams Lady Moon, numerous anthologies and magazine articles, with projects extending to screenplays, poetry, songs, film, and a wide variety of short fiction and nonfiction since the 1980's.
