May the 4th was a few weeks ago, and it's a day that Star Wars fans everywhere celebrate the franchise that they love! We here at 3GD celebrate the 4th too, but we do it all month long for we have always used the month of May to look at the usually bad 4th entries in a film franchise. And, this week is no exce, becuase we're kicking off May the 4th month with a look at Jurassic World, the 2015 film that just happens to be the 4th film in the popular dinosaur film series...it also happens to be not all that great as it's pretty much more of the exact same stuff we've already seen in the very first movie in the series, Jurassic Park! So, tune in and find out what we all thought!
This week, we wrap up our month long April Fool's series with a "Drink 'Til It's Good" look at a movie with one wild-card cop who doesn't play by the rules and his no-nonsense African American partner...you'd think we'd be talking about Lethal Weapon but, you couldn't be more wrong for, in this episode, we're actually going to put our spin on Samurai Cop!
April Fool's month trudges on and this week, we're looking at a film that is as epic in scope as it is confusing to watch. For this week, the Spice will indeed flow as we take a look at DUNE...or, do we???
April Fool's month continues as we take a look at James Bond in Live and Let Die...or are we? This week's movie certainly has a Bond connection and this movie also has a beautiful and dangerous love interest and this movie also has a very dynamic and captivating villain but, it's not very good! However, despite all that, it's still a lot of fun! What movie did we actually see and discuss? Well, you're just going to have to tune in and find out.
Daredevil is back! Disney+ has dropped Daredevil: Reborn. It's the follow-up to the hit NETFLIX series. We here at 3GD want to take a look at Daredevil, but...it's April and (if you're a long time listener, you know what that means), things may not be what they seem as April Fools Day runs all month long around here.
We conclude our "In The March of Madness" month with a look at the 2008 M Night Shayamalan film The Happening. In this film a science teacher (Mark Wahlberg), his wife (Zoey Deschanel), and a young girl struggle to survive a sudden plague that causes those infected to commit suicide. This one was a tough one because, while the movie does not necessarily deal with anyone going insane, the movie will certainly drive you nuts trying to make sense of it all which means, it's a perfect candidate for one of our "Drink 'til it's good" episodes as well. This time, we will not just break down the film for you...we're gonna act it out...the 3GD way!
As we continue our "In the March of Madness" series with a month-long look at films about madness and insanity, this week, we tak a look at the 1993 film, Falling Down. Michael Douglas plays an ordinary man who is frustrated with the various flaws he sees in society and he begins to psychotically and violently lash out against them. Listen in and find out what we thought.
This week we continue our decent into madness as our annual "In the March of Madness" month continues. This week, we're looking at the 2013 sci-fi thriller, Coherence. Written and Directed by James Ward Brykit, Coherence tells the story of 8 friends who get together for a dinner party but strange things begin to happen when, on that same evening, a comet is passing overhead and as that astronomical anomaly passes by, everyone begins to experience a troubling chain of reality bending events. Who is real and who may be from different reality are just a few of the questions that arise in this trippy tale. Listen in and find out what we thought.
Our "In The March Of Madness" month continues as, this week, we're going to be talking about Terry Gilliam's 1991 film, The Fisher King. Jeff Bridges plays Jack Lucas who was once a rich, famous and egotistical New York City shock jock. Jack goes on a downward spiral, both personally and professionally, after a glib comment he makes to one of his regular callers results in that caller going on a murder spree at a trendy downtown bar. Three years later, when Jack hits rock bottom and is close to suicide, he is saved by a seemingly crazy and homeless man named Parry (Robin WIlliams). Parry does have mental health issues, namely hallucinations centered around the story of the Fisher King, and an obsession with obtaining the Holy Grail. After Jack learns of Parry's own background and the reason he got to where he is, Jack feels the need to be part of Parry's salvation. Listen in and hear what we thought of it.
This week we wrap up Fantasy February and our look at pulp heroes with a look at a film that has it's roots in (and centers around) pulpy romance fiction novels. From 1984, Romancing The Stone. Kathleen Turner plays Joan Wilder, a meek and mousy romance novelist, who receives a treasure map in the mail from her recently murdered brother-in-law. At the same time, her sister Elaine is kidnapped in Colombia and the two criminals responsible, demand that she travel to Colombia to exchange the map for her sister. Joan does, but she quickly becomes lost in the jungle after being waylaid by Zolo, a corrupt Colombian cop who will stop at nothing to obtain the map for himself. While there, she meets, and is helped by, an irreverent, laid-back adventurer of sorts, named Jack Colton (Michael Douglas) who agrees (for a price) to bring her back to civilization. Together, they embark upon an adventure that could be straight out of one of Joan's pulpy romance novels!
This week, as we continue our look at pulp-heroes as part of our annual "Fantasy February", we're taking a look at the pulp hero who arguably started it all. The character who influenced everyone from Superman to The Shadow. This week we're looking at Doc Savage! More to the point, we're looking at the 1975 movie, Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze! In the film, which takes in the 1930's, Doc Savage (played by Ron Ely) and his five adventuring companions are drawn into the mystery of Doc's father disappearing in the wilds of South America. The maniacal Captain Seas tries to thwart them at every turn as they travel to the country of Hidalgo to investigate Doc's father's death and uncover a vast horde of Incan gold.
This week's episode continues our month-long look at pulp heroes for "Fantasy February". From the pulp pages of the cult comic flies The Rocketeer! This 1991 film recreates 1930's Hollywood, complete with gangsters, Nazi spies, and the growth of the Age of Aviation. Young, hotshot pilot Cliff Secord (Billy Campbell) stumbles upon a top secret rocket-pack created by Howard Hughes and with the help of his mechanic/mentor, Peevy (Alan Arkin), he now attempts to save his girlfriend Jenny (Jennifer Connolly) and stop the Nazis as The Rocketeer!
Fantasy February is once again upon us and, this year we thought it would be fun to take a look at pulp heroes in a sort of urban-fantasy setting. So, to kick things off, we take a look at 1994's The Shadow. Starring Alec Baldwin, John Lone, Tim Curry, Ian McKellan, Johnathan Winters and Penelope Ann Miller the film, set in 1930s New York City, finds The Shadow (Alec Baldwin) as he battles his nemesis, Shiwan Khan (John Lone), who is building an atomic bomb. This week, our look at buddy-cop movies all month long continues as we take a look at 1991's The Last Boy Scout! We really haven't talked about any Christmas movies all month so, when the subject was brought up, Geek Dad Brien suggested one he recently saw...the other Dads (mostly) said "sounds good" and we all sat down and watched Santa's Slay, a film from 2005 that none of us had heard of, despite some big name actors (James Caan anyone?) popping up in the opening scenes! In this film Santa Claus is actually a demon who lost a bet with an angel, so, for 1000 years, he becomes the giver of toys and happiness. But when those thousand years are up and the bet is off, he returns to his evil ways! Starring ex-wrestler, Bill Goldberg as the rampaging Santa and Robert Culp as the grandpa/angel. Listen in and find out what we thought of it!

So, after a few long days at Comic Con and in between pub-crawls and searching for the perfect New York City slice of pizza, we all got behind the mic back at Chris and Tristan's hotel to talk about the horrific cinematic masterpiece, Rawhead Rex (which we had just watched).
