Advent series: Finding Christmas in the Carols | Mark Miller, speakerWe explore the songs born from our joy that Christ has entered the world as we find Christmas in the carols. The song “Hark! How All the Welkin Rings” (an awful title) was originally put to music from a cantata about the printing press (#boring), but God used these less than stellar things to bring us the carol we know and love today, "Hark the Herald Angels Sing." God is always using things of little value or notoriety, ordinary common things (like Mary), to accomplish his purposes. Mary’s song from Luke 1 (The Magnificat) celebrates this theme. Today, God still uses ordinary people like us to glorify Him and accomplish His purposes.

Think you’re too high-strung to meditate? The truth is, meditation is not about calming the mind or finding your Zen. But it can help you make better, more conscious decisions in your day-to-day. And be a kinder, more present human in general. Rob Dubé is the Cofounder and President of imageOne, one of the Forbes Best Small Companies in America in 2017. He has also been an avid meditator for the last 13 years and founded Do Nothing to teach other leaders the business benefits of practicing mindfulness. Rob’s writing has been featured in Forbes, Thrive Global and EO Octane, and he is the author of Do Nothing: The Most Rewarding Leadership Challenge You’ll Ever Take. On this episode of Destined to Be, Rob joins us to explain why he turned to meditation to ease his anxiety and how his mindfulness practice informs the way he runs his business. He offers insight into the misconception that meditation is about ‘getting away from it all,’ describing how the practice involves observing our thoughts—and then returning to the breath. Listen in as Rob shares his experience at extended silent retreats and learn what YOU can do to be truly present for your family, your team and yourself! Key Takeaways Why Rob turned to meditation to ease his constant anxiety What inspired Rob to write Do Nothing about his experience at silent retreats How Rob leads his business with kindness, compassion and love How what’s going on in our minds + bodies doesn’t always align with the way we present ourselves Rob’s response for people who say they’re too high-strung to meditate The misconception that meditation is about ‘getting away from it all’ How meditation is a practice of recognizing our thoughts and then returning to the breath Why the goal of meditation is not to be perfect but to be self-aware Rob’s take on what it means to be truly present for another person The value in taking extended silent retreats to practice meditation for longer periods of time How our intuition gets stronger when we slow down How ALL of our emotions are here to serve us—not just the positive ones Rob’s insight on setting goals without being tied to the outcome Connect with Rob Do Nothing Book Do Nothing Podcast Rob on Forbes Rob on LinkedIn Rob on Facebook Rob on Instagram Connect with Jeremiah & Mallory Destined to Be Jeremiah on LinkedIn Jeremiah on Facebook Jeremiah on Instagram Mallory on Instagram Mallory on Facebook REVOLUTION WELLNESS Facebook Group Resources Do Nothing: The Most Rewarding Leadership Challenge You’ll Ever Take by Rob Dubé Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business by Gino Wickman imageOne EOS Worldwide Entrepreneurs’ Organization Todd Palmer on Destined to Be EP003 Lewis Howes Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu

Amazon Prime Day shows the beauty of Capitalism | & News Media hits a new level with it's Tennessee Nathan Bedford Forrest story

It's that time of year again. It's Amazon Prime Day. As a Free-Market Capitalist, you have to rejoice in the fact that this day exists.  You can literally buy everything you need on Amazon, and have it delivered to your house in two days. Sometimes, you can have it delivered in as little as two hours.  We have to sit back and ask the question, "Why does this exist?" Well, put simply, it exists because someone wanted to make money. Maybe that sounds selfish or greedy, but that's only if you have a negative view of money, itself.  Money, as always, is a representation of value that you have provided to others. In a free-market system, that is. If you pay $1 for a cup of coffee, it is only because you value that cup of coffee more than you valued the dollar. On the flip side, the vendor only sold you the coffee because they valued the dollar more than they valued the coffee. As simple as it is, that small example works for all things in a free-market economy.  If you hold the above view of money, then you are less likely to look down upon the desire to make money by starting your own business. As long as you are operating in a free economy, you would only be able to make money by providing products or services that the population value. If it wasn't deemed valuable, you would never make the money.  So now we arrive back at the fact that someone started Amazon to make money. Good!  As a study on the effects of Walmart found, the average American family saves over $2,500 per year simply because Walmart exists, whether they shop at Walmart or not. How? All of the competing retailers and grocery stores must find ways to lower their costs/prices so they remain competitive with Walmart for your business.  We see the same thing with Amazon. In our podcast episode, we detail out the amazing fact that today and tomorrow, not only do you have the option to shop at a large discount at Amazon, but Target and Walmart are both running massive online sales to compete with Amazon for your business. This means that Amazon is saving you money, even if you don't have a Prime membership, or shop at Amazon.com for any of your goods.  That's the amazing part about Capitalism and the Free-Market. No government issued an order today stating that Amazon must lower their prices, and no regulative body issued an order stating that Walmart and Target must lower their prices to match Amazon. That's the power of a free and competitive market.  So who wins in this scenario? Well certainly Jeff Bezos and thousands of other Amazon investors, but also the hundreds of millions of people that use Amazon, Walmart, and Target. The economy as a whole wins because the opportunity to allocate dollars to more efficient uses has now presented itself.  The rest of the beauty? You don't have to shop at Amazon today, or tomorrow. You can spend more elsewhere, make your own products, or buy from a local vendor. Amazon is not forcing you to use their services. They want you to use their services, and they are offering you a better quality of life for doing so.  That's Free-Market Capitalism- and it's freaking beautiful.  --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/goodmorningliberty/support

How all-in are you when it comes to building the life you want? For many of us, we think we want something, but the truth is we aren’t willing to give up x, y or z to get there. Lisa Bilyeu knows how to put it all on the line. Join me as I sit down with the co-founder of the billion-dollar company, Quest. In this episode, Lisa shares her own health struggles and how she made the choice to overcome them. She also reveals how she went from housewife to world-class entrepreneur and provides some of her best mindset shifts for creating the life you desire. This episode is brought to you by my Mastery + Momentum 12-month Private Mastermind and Retreat Experience. If you’ve been craving sisterhood and community with not just like-minded women, but women who have the capacity to relate to your success, while understanding the struggles that come with it, I might have what you need! Learn more at MasteryandMomentum.com. About Lisa Bilyeu Lisa is living proof that Darwin was right when he said it’s not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but rather the most adaptive to change. Lisa began her professional career in film, moved briefly into administration, and then, as a founding team member at Quest Nutrition, she took on logistics – building the company’s fulfillment department from scratch and helping facilitate the company’s rise to #2 on the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing private companies. Lisa then returned to media, helping build the company’s revolutionary in-house media team, producing content that has been viewed over 100,000,000 times. Presently, as co-founder of Impact Theory, she’s looking to combine her highly developed skills as a creative producer with her drive to help people build things that matter. Be So Good They Can’t Ignore You “Take the best talent and then invest in them.” – Lisa Bilyeu For a lot of people, when it’s time to invest in their business, they often shortchange themselves by just taking whoever they can find. For me – and for Lisa – it’s better to have nobody than a bad body. Talent doesn’t mean having been born with a certain skillset. It means that you’re willing to keep pushing yourself and learning. So, for Lisa, if someone comes into her business patting themselves on the back and believing they can never make a mistake, there’s a good chance she wouldn’t hire them. The reason? Lisa wants her team to know they’re never going to be perfect. They will make mistakes. They will get critiqued. Talent then could be defined as the drive to push yourself to accumulate said skill and the desire to continuously refine it and build on it. How All-in Am I? I meet people all the time who have lofty goals and dreams. They want time freedom, they want to work from home, they want to travel on a whim, but when it comes to investing in the life they want, they often don’t. That’s why I love this question so much: How All-in Am I? In other words, what am I willing to sacrifice and what am I not willing sacrifice? How all-in am I willing to go? What am I willing to lose? At the end of the day, you have to do what feels right for you. For Lisa, she put her house on the line because she knew if she didn’t, she’d look back and know she hadn’t given it her all. I Choose This Life – the Key to Personal Responsibility Lisa never expected to be an entrepreneur. She was a housewife for eight years and had been primed her whole life for that role. So when her husband suggested this new business venture – Quest – Lisa had to restructure her mindset and take responsibility for her choices. Within two years, Lisa went from shipping out bars from her living room floor to building out a 10,000 square foot shipping department with 40 employees. How did she do it? She made the choice to ask all the questions she needed to achieve the things she wanted and to push the business forward. She could let fear paralyze her. She also could have pretended she knew what she was doing. But neither of those things would have serviced her and the life she wanted to create. Lisa accepted that she didn’t always know what she was doing, but that she could figure it out. “When feeling weak or unsure of myself, I just keep asking questions.” – Lisa Bilyeu Tell Yourself a New Story Everything we believe is either a story we tell ourselves or a story others have told us about ourselves. When you’re a kid and other kids say things like, “Oh, you’ve got a big nose,” or “Oh, you ask too many dumb questions.” You carry these thoughts through into adulthood and those jabs become your story. Now, Lisa and I both realize, that those things we thought as kids, don’t define us. And knowing they don’t define us and we can come through the other side, is so empowering. “When you realize you have the power to construct your story, anything becomes possible.” And now, adds Lisa, “I’ve shown myself that putting my hand up and asking questions actually gets me what I want.” Embrace Your Decisions When Lisa and her husband got married, she expected to one day have kids. As their business started to develop though, she realized she didn’t want kids. Working through her decision, embracing it and standing with it has been tough, but it’s helped Lisa realize a few things: It was the right decision for her, her husband and their business. The people who support you are people you should keep in your life. Those who judge you, don’t belong in your life. Generally, people don’t set off to make you feel bad. In most cases, they’re projecting a judgment they have when they feel in conflict with your decisions and their own. Become Your Best Self At the height of their company, when they were winning awards, had bought their dream house in Beverly Hills and were enjoying a bottle of Dom Perignon, Lisa felt like her entire digestive system had erupted. After years of doctors routinely prescribing antibiotics and Lisa taking them, it had wreaked havoc on her system. She could barely eat anything and lost so much weight that her hair started falling out. As the co-founder of one of the largest nutrition companies in the world, she was embarrassed, ashamed and for a long time hid that she was sick. Now, four years later, Lisa takes complete ownership over what had happened to her. Yes, doctors prescribed the antibiotics, but she took them. She never asked what long-term side effects they could cause. Rather than beat herself up about it, though, Lisa chose to take ownership and regain control of her body, and now speaks out about her health struggles to help others better listen to their bodies.    Visit https://impacttheory.com/women-of-impact/ to find out more about Lisa and Women of Impact. When NOT to Qualify Leads | Coffee is for Closers Here’s something that may (or may not) shock you. Ready? Not all leads should become clients. Just because there’s interest doesn’t mean someone is right for you. And with some prospects, you just KNOW from the jump that they’re not a fit. You might remember a pair of potential clients I told you about a while back. They ran a mid size level accounting r business. But by all accounts, they were broke. And desperate to change their situation. But I knew from square one that it wasn’t going to be a fit. How? All they did was haggle on price. Ask for discounts. Try to cut a deal. And for this high-level CPA program, we already knew what it was worth. No room for negotiations there. So they put themselves out of the running for more than just being a potential client. They also disqualified themselves from earning a spot on the follow-up list. But a funny thing happened last week. After two months of silence, out of the blue they were in my inbox again, asking about our services. Did they see the light, and are they ready to invest in their success this time? That remains to be seen, because they did ask for a discount again! I’ll let you know what happens when (or if) we talk again! But what I CAN tell you for sure is that when we first met, they were NOT candidates for further conversation. Now, following up is vital if you want to close more deals. But then again, so is knowing whether a client is a “not right now” vs. a “probably not ever.” Follow-up is a big investment of TIME. And unlike money, time is something that you’ll never be able to earn back.  So you’ve got to do all you can to make sure that you’re investing your most precious resource as wisely as possible. How do you know when a client just needs a little more time or if they’re on the permanent NO list?
