Part of being a machine shop owner—and a business owner in general—is that every day there's a new challenge to navigate. A machine might break down. Perhaps someone who has been a team member for decades quits. Your factory could burn to the ground. Or your Dad—the owner and manager of the shop—gets sick with cancer. That's how Nick Sainati was thrust into becoming the GM of Belden Universal. In this episode, he shares his journey. It will resonate with some of us, fascinate most of us, and impress all of us. Don't miss this inspiring family story! They started in 1970 as Belden Tools, founded by Nick's grandfather and his brothers on Belden Avenue in Chicago. They used to buy tools from ZENGERS, which was just down the street!  Instead of going into the family business, Nick ended up in San Francisco in investment banking. He spent two years at an eCommerce startup and eventually moved back to Chicago. After both he and his wife got an MBA, they moved to Seattle for her job. After running a wine business, Nick transitioned into Starbucks Corporate in brand management. He helped launch the Starbucks evening program that tied-in with wine. He transitioned to a strategy team after that. He learned about culture, managing people, and running complex projects.  How Nick took over his Dad's machine shop Two months after Nick's first daughter was born, his parents came to visit them in Seattle. They told Nick that his Dad had a rare form of Leukemia. He needed to take time off of work for treatment. They were going to have to sell the business unless Nick or his sister could come back and run it. Nick was shocked. His parents were healthy active people who were never sick.  After processing the news and discussing it with his wife, Nick decided to move back to Chicago to take over Belden Universal, an AS9100 manufacturer of precision universal joints and drive shafts. Four months later, he was in Chicago running a machine shop—and he knew nothing about manufacturing. Nick bought a large book about manufacturing that was for a college-level manufacturing class and dug into back episodes of Making Chips, which helped him get immersed in the language of machining.  Navigating challenges while learning the ropes When Nick took over in 2018, the machine shop had just moved into a new facility, doubling the size of their manufacturing floor. They had a tenured team and people to help get Nick up to speed. But he was also their boss—and couldn't do most of their jobs.  Soon after taking over, Belden lost their biggest customer—which was one of the reasons they had moved into the bigger space. They immediately lost what would have been ¼ of their business. Nick knew it would be his first challenge. But then his sales manager of 19 years quit three months in. Instead of panicking, he took stock of the situation and helped define where they wanted to go in the future. They hired an internal candidate for the sales management position. She blossomed as a leader and got their team back on track. They worked hand-in-hand on the culture so people were excited to come to work every day. In an era like today where every shop is competing for employees, the culture matters. A shop can't survive with a negative culture. 18 months later, after continuous incidents with the production manager (who had been there 29 years), Nick decided it was time to part ways. They let him go. But this man had been involved in every part of the business. The benefit of letting him go was that Nick was forced to get more involved in floor operations. He began to work closely with his engineers on improvement projects and personnel issues. He got to know the people on the factory floor. He stepped up and earned respect from his team. How did Nick manage the machine shop through COVID? What does the future hold for Belden Universal? Listen to the whole episode to hear more of his unique story.  How Nick's experiences have prepared him for the future What did Nick learn? The most important thing is that problems can look very daunting in the moment—especially multi-faceted problems. But the most important thing is to take a break, formulate a plan, understand what the desired end outcome is, and start chipping away at it. Family businesses have long timelines where things don't have to be solved overnight. They can make progress every day, month, and year towards that vision. Eventually they will find success. A problem now may seem like a bump in the road over the arc of your career.  — BAM! Resources mentioned on this episode Get The Boring Bar Newsletter - Text CHIPS to 38470 to subscribe! In this episode, we speak to a Detection and Response expert! Our guest is Nick Hakmiller, Senior Engineering Manager at Panther Labs. Nick was first exposed to technology in High School where he took an introduction to Visual Basic programming course. When learning about multi-threaded applications Nick became curious and began exploring how to open too many threads to crash a computer. Throughout Nick's career he's maintained an interest and focus on attack techniques and building defensive security programs. On occasions, security controls may fail to catch an attacker. A detection is logic that is applied to logs, security controls, and alerts to notify teams and automated processes. Nick describes Python as an exceptional programming language to apply detections and create detections as code. Nick describes many aspects of security as an engineering problem. As organizations transform and adopt new technologies, security issues arise and evolve. Nick describes that the team's that are most successful with applying detection as code have chosen to view security as a function that engineering should participate in and help solve. As an organization's security program matures, Nick mentions that the most impactful detections will likely be written and created by someone within the organization. For instance, creating a detection that defines which users should have access to sensitive data is likely to be created by a member of the organization with knowledge of team structure. Towards the end of the episode, Nick shares his wisdom to any practitioner that wants to step into the role of creating detections and providing impact while doing so.   Key Takeaways 0:00 - Welcome Back to the Hacker Valley Studio Podcast! 2:29 - Nick Hakmiller, Senior Engineering Manager at Panther Labs 4:20 - How Nick became interested in technology 6:00 - What is a detection? 7:25 - How detection as code applies to cybersecurity and software engineering 10:11 - Prerequisites to consider before applying detection as code 12:27 - Thinking beyond out of the box solutions and applying detections 15:54 - Categories of detections and which are most impactful 23:45 - Reducing alerts by engineering efforts 27:40 - Is it possible to automate everything for security? 32:56 - Advice on getting started with creating detections   Keep in touch with Nick Hakmiller on LinkedIn Reach out to Nick on Panther's Community Slack Stay up to date with Nick's work by viewing Panther Analysis Learn more about Panther Labs

In 2003, Nick Prefontaine was in a snowboarding accident that left him in a coma for over 3 weeks. The doctors told his parents that he probably wouldn't walk, talk, or eat on his own again. Less than 3 months later, he was running out of Franciscan Children's hospital. Now Nick speaks to groups that benefit from his message of overcoming adversity.   Nick grew up in the real estate industry and got started at an early age. Most notably, he was knocking on Pre-Foreclosure doors at 16, doing up to 50 doors a day. This experience helped shape Nick's real estate career. When someone opens the door you better have something compelling to say.   Now, Nick specializes in working with lease purchase buyers to get them into a home and on the path to home ownership. That includes working with them throughout the entire deal which ends in them being able to get their own loan. Getting buyers to the finish line is something Nick and the entire Pre Property Solutions team take pride in. That is something that separates them from their competition. Regardless of a buyer's credit situation, he looks at their complete financial picture and comes up with a plan to get them into a home.   What you will learn in this episode: How Nick experienced a devastating snowboarding accident in 2003 that left him in a three-week coma, and how he had to learn how to walk, talk, eat and shower again Why Nick's refusal to give up and his ability to persevere through challenges with tenacity and courage helped him recover his life after his accident Nick shares how he initially got started in real estate two years after his snowboarding accident, following in Chris's entrepreneurial footsteps How to get a free copy of the ebook “What's Your Excuse” written by Nick Prefontaine and Sgt. Shilo Harris How Nick got his real estate license in March of 2008 right as the real estate market and economy were crashing, and how he learned through trial by fire Nick discusses how the family team works hard to help buyers persevere through challenges and get to the finish line, and how that sets them apart Why it is important for Nick to be honest with buyers and explain that it does take work to buy a home, and why ethical business practices aren't negotiable for Nick Why a failure to take decisive action is the number one challenge Nick sees in new investing students, and why pushing through your fear is vital Why Nick won't consider putting a buyer in a home unless they have at least a 3% down payment and their income exceeds 3x the monthly payment on the home Why waiting to get into real estate investing until the market slows down will only hold you back from getting onto your path toward success   Resources: Listen to Nick Prefontaine's first appearance in the Smart Real Estate Coach podcast episode 44: https://smartrealestatecoachpodcast.com/podcasts/family-cast-1/ Free “What's Your Excuse” ebook: www.SmartRealEstateCoach.com/gifts Check out the Not Just A Transaction podcast, hosted by Nick Prefontaine and Zach Beach: www.prepropertysolutions.com/podcast/   Additional resources: Follow Chris and Zach on Club House to learn even more about deal structures and how to get 3 paydays from your real estate investments. In today's show, we're exploring the blue zones, rare longevity hotspots worldwide where people are thriving into their 100s. Where are these hot spots, and who are these people who have discovered the secrets to living longer, better lives? Nick Buettner is an explorer, National Geographic Fellow, award-winning journalist and producer, and NYT bestselling author. He has spent the past 20 years leading expeditions across six continents around the world, with three of these trips being to the world's “blue zones.” These are places with longer-than-normal life expectancy and where more people reach age 100 than anywhere else in the world. Nick worked with his brother, Dan, National Geographic, and a team of longevity researchers to identify and explore these pockets of the world where people are living longer lives. In his current role as the VP of Product for The Blue Zones Project, Nick is responsible for taking the Blue Zone longevity lessons to communities across the US. Today on the podcast is my friend, Nick Buegel. As always, Nick and I have great conversations. This one was the first one we've had in person since the pandemic started. It was enjoyable for me to have him over to record this. There's something special about being in the same room with someone and just having an in-depth discussion about your life or the ideas that we've been thinking about. We expanded on what Nick did to cope with the pandemic, meaning what happened through the pandemic and what did that cause him to explore? What we get into basically is this immersing himself in nature. Nick spent a lot of the time walking around different forest preserves here in the Midwest, in the Chicago area, and getting closer to it. He put himself on a path to get much deeper with the environmental movement, understanding just how complex and difficult many of these problems are. This conversation aims not to really talk about how to solve things, but how to tackle these things at a high level, like to behave people. Because at the end of the day, it's all about conflict resolution, and everyone has different set points here. And the hope is that we can agree with the extremes to at least put a plan in place that's better than what we currently have. That encapsulates all of this. Nick is by no means an expert. Still, at the same time, it's the point that we can learn and take it upon ourselves to aim at something much bigger than ourselves and hope that by accumulating information or by putting ourselves in a position that we can then talk about a complex issue intelligently, we can help other people jump on board and affect change. All of us can ever really do is start with ourselves. I hope you enjoy this conversation with Nick Buegel. #RunPainFree Podcast

Welcome to the #RunPainFree Podcast! In today's episode, Coach Jessica Marie Rose Leggio speaks with leading elite sport sleep coach Nick Littlehales. It sounds like a unique professional title, well, that's because he invented it!  Nick's career spans over 20 years. He has been a true innovator in bridging the divide between sleep science and creating actionable steps that athletes can implement to improve their rest and recovery. He is also the author of the international bestselling book "Sleep: The Myth of 8 hours, the Power of Naps, and the New Plan to Recharge Your Body and Mind." In this episode, he shares his knowledge and techniques underpinning his R90 Technique to increase your rest and performance. If you have been basing your recovery on the adage of getting eight hours every night, this episode is going to give you something to sleep on.  Step 1: Circadian rhythms  The first thing you need to do to improve your sleep is developing your understanding of circadian rhythms. Circadian rhythms are physical, mental, and behavioral changes that follow a 24-hour cycle. Like animals and plants, we humans (yes, it turns out we are animals after all!) also respond to changes in daylight.  Our melatonin increases in darkness and is suppressed in daylight, whereas serotonin rises during the daytime. Melatonin is most known for its role as a sleep hormone, and serotonin is the "feel good" hormone.  So, in the world of COVID lockdowns, make sure you get outdoors every day; it will do more for you than slamming another coffee. In the evening, getting off your phone and computer and avoiding blue light will help you sleep.  Step 2: Chronotypes.  Chronotypes relate to your natural inclination to sleep at a particular time. Optimizing your approach to sleep relates to understanding your chronotype. So, the question is, are you an early bird or a night owl?  While you can't deliberately change your chronotype, it is good to be aware of your pattern and know that it shifts over your lifetime. That's why that lazy teenager who can't get out of bed in the morning ends up waking up at the crack of dawn in their 80s. If you want to achieve prime performance, base your sleep on your body's natural rhythm.  Step 3: Think about sleep in cycles rather than hours. Alert! This information is the golden nugget of Nick's R90 Technique.  Start thinking about your sleep in terms of the number of cycles throughout the week instead of just getting eight hours a night. If you don't achieve optimum sleep one night, that okay; like one day rolls into the other, you too can move your recovery into the next.  The eight hours a night idea is an outcome of the modern world. Before that, humans slept several times throughout 24 hours or were polyphasic sleepers rather than monophasic.  On any day, you want to aim to hit five 90 minute cycles. Your sleep cycle includes: dosing off, light sleep, deep sleep, and REM – you need all of these to gain the restorative powers of sleep.  How you split that up can be determined by you. If you are someone who crashes mid-afternoon, take that nap, it all counts. Nick's book highlights that naps are magical for your wellbeing. But the key is to hit 90 minutes, as this completes an entire sleep cycle.  Step 4: Pre and post-sleep routines. To aid your ability to dose off into neverland and hit the day running, Nick emphasizes the importance of pre and post-sleep routines. You are developing a standard time to go to bed, and waking up will help in this regard. But don't beat yourself up if you have a sleep-in after a long week; you're human after all.  Pre-sleep routines may include: Getting off your phone. Lowering the temperature in your bedroom. Dimming the lights. Writing down your to-do list for the next day. Post-sleep routines can include: avoiding technology, aka don't look at your phone first thing and freak out over a work email because your cortisol levels are already high enough in the morning. Instead, do some light exercise and a brief mental challenge such as reading the news, sudoku, or a podcast.   Step 5: Balanced activity and recovery. Recovery doesn't just mean you should be sleeping or doing nothing. Throughout the day, you will have periods of intense physical and mental activity. So it is important to incorporate rest throughout the day. As Nick highlights, it's a simple as, 'pointing your brain in a different direction, and visualizing something different." Nick discusses how looking at the horizon on the sea can be restorative. But if you don't have that option available, getting up from your computer and gazing out your window will also do the trick.  Step 6: Environment. Improving your sleep environment is far more helpful than tracking your hours of sleep. Ideally, you want to create your bedroom in a way that is only associated with rest. Okay, we know what you are thinking; there are exceptions; you are human after all. Aim to minimize bright lights and leave your phone outside your bedroom.  Step 7: Products. People trying to improve their sleep quality typically reach for a product; Whether it be a new mattress, eye masks, a sleep tracker, white noise machines, or blue lights. Nick deliberately puts products in the final position in his R90 Technique; while helpful, they have the most negligible impact overall. If you are in the market of replacing your mattress, Nick says the key is to have a bed that adequately supports your neck, hips, and spine while sleeping in the fetal position. His website has further information on selecting a suitable mattress.  Take away lesson. Sleep should be considered an intrinsic part of the way you approach running. Running is intensive, and as you ramp up miles, you also need to ramp up your recovery. Performance gains won't just occur as a result of pushing harder during your training. A massive chunk of your performance relates to the way you approach to sleep and recovery. Particularly for our marathoners, if you have done a long run on the weekend, factor in having a nap afterward; you've earned it.  TIMESTAMPS 00:32 – Introduction and biography 02:37 – Nick's unlikely career journey  16:09 – How Nick developed the R90 sleep technique 19:17 – Five 90 minute cycles vs. 8 hours sleep per day 22:21 – Circadian rhythms and chronotypes 25:34 – Shortcomings of sleep products  KEY LEARNING POINTS Aim to achieve five 90 minute cycles a day instead of 8 hours per night Napping has a powerful effect on your recovery, memory, performance, and overall mood Develop pre and post-sleep routines Optimize your sleeping environment by eliminating bright light LINKS MENTIONED Marathon Training Summit: MarathonTrainingSummit.com Get an Assessment With Jessica: https://www.runpainfreenow.com. My guest today is dating and confidence coach, Nick Notas. For more than twelve years he has helped men conquer their fears, build self-esteem, and develop meaningful relationships. In the age of Tinder, dating can be a challenge, and Nick offers tons of practical advice to help in that arena. One thing I really appreciate about him is his deeper focus on building confidence and communication skills, which can certainly help with dating, but surely transforms all significant relationships and social networks. On this podcast, Nick and I talk about considerations for modern-day dating. We discuss how lockdowns over the past year have affected the dating scene, and what’s likely to happen when restrictions are lifted. Nick shares some practical advice for using dating apps: how to make a good first impression, making that first message count, and giving compliments that don’t suck.  Here’s the outline of this interview with Nick Notas: [00:01:44] How Nick became a dating coach. As the real estate industry has evolved, we’ve been trained to focus on who owns the data. And Zillow’s acquisition of ShowingTime has many concerned about sharing their data with the proptech giant. But what if hoarding your data is not the only way to compete with a company like Zillow? What if it’s not really about access to the data but what you do with it? Nick Bailey is the Chief Customer Officer at RE/MAX. With nearly 25 years of industry experience, Nick served as an agent, broker and proptech vendor before becoming the head of a major real estate franchise. On this episode of Industry Relations, Nick joins Rob and Greg to share his take on Zillow’s acquisition of ShowingTime and what’s behind the industry’s emotionally-charged reaction.   Nick offers insight on how the data Zillow acquired was already publicly available, explaining why that information doesn’t necessarily give the tech company a competitive advantage and reminding us that it’s not unusual for companies at scale to offer various products and services to the industry at large. Listen in for Nick’s perspective on what we can do to improve the process of buying or selling a home for consumers and find out why you shouldn’t panic about Zillow’s acquisition of ShowingTime. What’s Discussed:   Nick’s background as an agent, broker, tech vendor and head of a major real estate franchise Why Nick sees Zillow’s acquisition of ShowingTime as one tech company acquiring another to make the process of buying and selling homes easier for consumers How ShowingTime’s market share influenced the industry’s emotionally-charged reaction to its acquisition Nick’s argument that the data Zillow has acquired was already publicly available How Nick addresses the objection that the ShowingTime acquisition forces agents and brokers to provide Zillow with a competitive advantage How it’s not unusual for companies at scale to offer various products and services (e.g.: RE/MAX’s acquisition of Motto Mortgage) What Nick is doing to educate agents around the spirit of cooperation in the industry How Nick thinks about whether Zillow is a RE/MAX competitor What the real estate industry can do to improve the fragmented process of buying or selling a home Nick’s insight on what differentiates RE/MAX in a competitive industry that includes a growing number of iBuyers The trend toward a greater concentration of power among fewer agents and how that might contribute to the panic around Zillow Nick’s advice for MLS, franchisor and large brokerage CEOs on using data to identify trends and create contingency plans accordingly   Connect with Nick:   Nick at RE/MAX Nick on LinkedIn   Connect with Rob and Greg:  Rob’s Website Greg’s Website Resources: ShowingTime’s Press Release on Its Acquisition by Zillow Nick’s Video on Zillow’s Acquisition of ShowingTime Market Leader Rob’s Post on Zillow, ShowingTime & Paranoid Realtors First App Steve Murray at REAL Trends Motto Mortgage NAR Code of Ethics We Are RE/MAX on Facebook Brad Inman’s Piece on Zillow & ShowingTime Gary Keller’s 2021 Family Reunion Vision Speech Recap The Art of the CMA: Win Hearts, Minds, and Loyalty by Mastering Real Estate’s Most Versatile Tool by Greg Robertson  Dave Liniger at RE/MAX   Our Sponsors:    Cloud Agent Suite Notorious VIP

So when he created Saxbys in 2005, Nick never really considered it to be a coffee company — instead, it’s a social impact company fueled by amazing food, beverage and hospitality. Philadelphia-based Saxbys has since grown from one corner cafe to nearly 30 units with a singular mission: MAKE LIFE BETTER. Saxbys is a hospitality business fueled by great coffee. We pair the local, friendly atmosphere of a neighborhood coffee shop with consistently delicious products you’d find at a big name coffee place. Today, that team spans over 700 members across the Northeast that represent the change-makers of tomorrow. To that point, Nick introduced Saxbys’ pioneering Experiential Learning Platform (ELP) in 2015 in partnership with Drexel University — the nation’s first entirely student-run cafe where students earn full academic credit and wages through a university cooperative education platform. Nick’s vision for the platform is to embolden the next generation of entrepreneurs, providing undergrad students with tangible experience as a supplement to traditional classroom learning. In three short years, one ELP cafe has blossomed to twelve. Nick is joining us today to discuss how he developed the concept for Saxbys, and a system that is repeatable and scalable by college students. Nick Fogle of Wavve and Churnkey tells Geordie how he moved from law school to embrace a childhood passion and finally build a successful SaaS product. Nick has managed to thrive in the SaaS industry. However, he neither had intentions of venturing into SaaS nor did he have any college degree to prepare him for disruption in the market. Nick juggled between economics and law but did not like any of the courses. He speaks to Geordie about his journey in this podcast that you do not want to miss.  What you’ll Learn How Nick transitioned from being an attorney to a software engineer How did Nick get started in coding? How Nick came up with the Wavve idea How Nick converts audio to video How Nick handled the pricing part of his business How Nick achieved organic growth for his startup How did Nick come up with the idea of Churnkey? In this Episode: After struggling to determine what he wanted to do, Nick’s video gaming passion and coding knowledge finally became his guiding principle. He would then begin a long journey into becoming a software engineer. During this journey, he tried numerous startups, many of which did not succeed. However, it also marked the beginning of Wavve, which has since been a success.  Nick says that some people thought he was crazy when he chose to leave law school for coding. He is quick to mention that such a decision would be more sensible today than it was back then, seeing that the world is evolving fast. Nick tells Geordie that his interest in law was slowly fading away in the course of his learning. He was sure that being an attorney was not what he wanted to do, and he had to switch to something he was passionate about. He tells Geordie why he felt that being an attorney was not what he wanted to spend the rest of his days doing. Listen to the podcast to know these reasons. With no coding knowledge, Nick knew that few people would trust his ability, and this is where he decided to learn how to code. At some point, he got a job as a shuttle driver, but he still managed to work from his laptop when he did not have a pickup. Listen to the podcast to find out how he did it and the stack he chose when he started coding. Nick admits that being a solo SaaS startup founder can be a difficult task, but one that’s worth all the effort. His wife introduced him to his co-founder at Wavve after realizing that they had common startup ideas. Nick and his co-founder started working on their first product, which they would later sell. While his co-founder focused on sales and marketing, Nick handled the technical stuff. What was their first product all about? Find out from the podcast. He also talks about his first business model, then in-depth. You cannot miss this section, especially if you are a startup entrepreneur.  After selling their first product, Nick and his co-founder had gathered some critical lessons which came in handy when they established Wavve. Nick gives a detailed overview of Wavve and how they started making money from the product. You can only grasp these details by listening to the podcast. In between creation of the product and coming up with pricing, Nick and his team experienced various challenges that he talks about in the podcast. These challenges opened them to the idea of having different plans to cater to different customer needs. Nick says that this idea helped them create better pricing plans. What three payment plans did Nick and his team create? Listen to the podcast to find out. Content marketing in this digital age is fast becoming an essential part of any business. Nick tells Geordie about the content marketing strategy they rely on. He says their strategy is different from what many businesses use. They focus on talking to customers one-on-one and listening to their needs. Nick mentions that one of the most difficult things about building content is starting and writing something. He discusses details about SEO and keywords in this podcast that you should listen to. According to Nick, using a suitable tool to analyze SEO is crucial, especially because Google changes fast. While Nick is operating a business in an overly competitive industry, he says they have managed to remain afloat. Nick also talks about the concept behind Churnkey. One of the major things that plants do is help connect us with nature. I think as plant parents, once we use plants to reconnect with ourselves and make our homes look beautiful, they also get us thinking more about nature and the earth and how important it’s preservation is. So today’s episode is exploring just that: plant parenthood and low waste living, and what it means to make intentional decisions about preserving our planet while taking care of ourselves and our plants. I think we are all anxiously looking at 2021 and getting excited about the changes that will come. This is the time to set new years resolutions and just think about how we want to show up in 2021 for ourselves and I think more importantly, there are global conversations happening about how we can show up for those around us and the environment.   As I continue to fall deeper in love with plants, I’m finding that I’m falling deeper in love with nature itself and feeling a stronger sense of responsibility to take care of our planet. I’m so excited to welcome Nick Cutsumpas of @farmernicknyc  to the podcast and share this conversation with you and to inform and encourage our community to think about how we can apply these concepts of low waste living to not only our lives, but to our hobby of plant care. Nicks been a plant friend of mine for a while and I’ve loved learning more about sustainability from him, and figured he is the perfect intersection of plant parent and environmental activist to have for this chat about how to lead more sustainable lives as humans and plant parents.  In this episode we learn: [00:02:26] Introducing Nick Cutsumpas and episode key ideas [00:07:18] What Nick does, what started his plant journey (mothers DO know best!), and how plants served as his ‘saving grace’ when he moved into the city [00:10:38] Check out Nick in Netflix’s new show The Big Flower Fight! Today, he is the Founder & CEO of Hailify, a funded startup which makes the Gomo app - a complete solution for ride-share drivers. Gomo started with a desire to understand Uber and Lyft drivers, their struggles and needs — and the loss of independence that comes from being managed, and sometimes penalized by a piece of software.Today, Gomo allows thousands of drivers to accept rides from multiple apps without being penalized, to increase safe driving by automating common tasks, to find hotspots, prepare for large upcoming events, and even find nearby public restrooms.   EPISODE SUMMARY In this conversation we discuss: [2:41] Nick's early realization about the connection between relationships and happiness [5:27] How Nick decided to launch a Gomo while in med school, and the needs it's meant to address for drivers. How to Build an Unbreakable Mindset Joining me on the show today is Nick Santonastasso.  Nick is a global keynote speaker and fitness model. What's so incredible about his story is he kept pushing on despite having so many reasons to give up.  Born with no legs and an arm, Nick had to fight through depression and suicidal thoughts growing up. With all odds against him, Nick developed a razor sharp mindset to become the success and inspiration he is today.    The Foundation of Nick's success. Nick owes it all to his parents. They are his superheroes.   As a parent, you cultivate and mould your child's mindset through your actions and words.  While growing up as a kid, Nick's parents never treated him any different. They treated him as a normal kid and handed him tasks that they would a normal kid.    It is from his childhood that Nick developed the solution oriented mindset. Everytime his parents placed him in a situation that made him uncomfortable, Nick used it as an opportunity to grow both physically and mentally.    Nick's journey. Back in high school, Nick used to be a popular prankster. He'd dress up like a zombie and scare people.  After finishing high school, Nick  turned down the offer to attend college and instead chose to pursue a career in acting. And so he moved to LA. Two weeks after signing his first lease, the show he was supposed to perform in got cancelled. He didn't even get the opportunity to film the pilot episode.  As time went by, Nick found himself broke, with no money to pay rent or buy food. (Looking back at it now, Nick appreciates this lowpoint in his life. Till date, he still believes he can survive even when he lacks a penny in his name.) This forced him to move back home and live in his parents' basement.  With his pranking career down the drain, Nick decided to shift his focus on body building as his next life project.  He analyzed the fitness industry and created a masterplan to use his unique body features to build a career as a bodybuilder. He would leverage what he had to entertain and motivate people. With this vision in mind. Nick pushed himself to the limit and this led to him being the success he is today.   How Nick uses his mind as a tool to achieve success. For Nick, it's all about focus and where you place it. Don't place your focus on things you can't control or the bad things going on in your life. Instead, you should place it on the positive things happening for you, and how to find solutions for the problems in your life. Work on yourself. A lot of people try to seek validation from other individuals in their lives such as parents, peers and work colleagues. Nick advises you to instead seek acceptance and validation from yourself. And the best way to do this, is to invest in yourself.  When you work on yourself, you create clarity and momentum in your life. You are able to live based on your purpose and end up falling in love with yourself.  Nick worked on himself through bodybuilding. Working out gave him confidence, upon which Nick has built his entire life and career.    Seed planting and persistence.  When his bodybuilding career was peeking. Nick decided to attend a mastermind course.  It's here that he met his business partner and coach, Ratmir.  Inspired by Nick's story, Ratmir offered to work for Nick for free. Ratmir promised to build Nick a successful career as a public speaker.  With the new journey onset, the duo used all the little chances and resources they could find to build Nick's PR profile. Every event the duo attended, they would plant seeds in the form of networking and consistently communicating with the top speakers and VIP guests of the shows.  Nick would give talks without asking for pay. Just to build his profile.  With time, they were able to leverage the different relationships they had built through the years and Nick found himself sharing the stage with icons such as Tony Robbins and Tom Bilyeu.  This served to boost Nick's fast rising career as speaker.  But even after accomplishing so much and establishing himself as a renowned speaker. Nick still does events for free.  As a core principle in his life, Nick believes in doing the same things that you did when you were starting out that got you to where you are. Never derail from your foundation. Hang on to the principles that propelled you to success.   Connect with Nick Santonastasso.    Website - https://booknicksanto.com/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/NickSantonastasso Twitter - https://twitter.com/nicksanto534  YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/user/Nicksanto534 Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/nicksantonastasso/   Connect with Doug Instagram: @dougbopst Facebook: Doug Bopst Website: www.dougbopst.com/gift   More on Earth Echo Foods/Cacao Bliss: www.earthechofoods.com/dougbopst Use Promo code "Doug" at checkout to receive 15% off your order We are also a proud supporter of Belcampo meats  www.belcampo.com Use Promo code "bopst20" at checkout to receive 20% off your order
