Paul Carroll joins Jimmy on the podcast today to discuss the Kickstarter campaign for the 5th Limit Break Comics Anthology: Bump in the Night, which, and how cool is this, it's all about Cryptids! Limit Break has put out some amazing anthologies: Turning Roads, Down Below, Fractured Realms, and Wish Upon a Star. This newest anthology mashes up cryptids and ecological horror. Of course there's a Yeti story in it, and Jimmy wrote it. Paul talks about putting these anthologies together, what he looks for in a submission, teases some of the cryptids in it, and talks about some of his other recent work. Jimmy also tells Paul how much it meant to him and Bobby last year at Dublin Comic-Con that Paul invited them both out to dinner and then to a pub, which led to Bobby's "Oh, wow" moment with Declan Shalvey. If you haven't heard that story before, listen to the episode to find out. Check out the Bump in the Night Kickstarter Bump in the Night is a 22-story collection, featuring four-page comics about cryptids from all over the world. Over 40 creators are contributing to the book, exploring the theme of nature vs society. We're talking about Old Dog and ThunderCats today on the Cryptid Creator Corner as I welcome Declan Shalvey to the podcast. I was lucky enough this past March to celebrate my 45th birthday in Ireland and as part of the celebration go to Dublin Comic Con and meet Declan. I knew once I was back home I had to get Declan on the podcast to chat about comics. We discuss his early days in comics, Dublin Comic Con, plus some of his work like Savage Town, Bog Bodies, Time Before Time, Old Dog, and ThunderCats. It was great hearing about Declan's approach to storytelling, both writing and art. I could have chatted with Declan for another 2 hours, but Penny came upstairs while recording to tell me the laundry room "smells like burning" and I had to wrap things up to investigate. Be sure to check out Declan's website and sign up for his very excellent newsletter. I've been very lucky recently to chat with some of my favorite creators working in comics right now and I think you're going to enjoy listening to this episode as much as I enjoyed recording it. Thundercats from the publisher: Fleeing through space to escape their dying home world, the ThunderCats were attacked en route by their mortal enemies, the Mutants of Plun-Darr. After diverting their damaged flagship to a planet called Third Earth, the surviving ThunderCats now strive to rebuild their society in harmony with the new world's natives. But the Mutants, determined to possess the ThunderCats' mystical gem, the Eye of Thundera, have tracked them down - and they've also forged an alliance with Mumm-Ra, the devil-priest of Third Earth! Now the ThunderCats, led by an inexperienced Lion-O, must band together as never before to protect their legacy from this combined enemy. But will they be able to withstand the onslaught of Mumm-Ra the Ever-Living, once he sets his eyes upon them? The triple-threat talents (writers, artists, and ThunderCats superfans) of DECLAN SHALVEY and DREW MOSS join forces to bring this exciting new entry in the ThunderCats canon to life! Old Dog from the publisher: Jack Lynch was a once-promising CIA operative. On the eve of retirement, looking back at a failed career, he is tasked with one final mission...that goes horribly wrong. He wakes years later to a changed world and deeper changes within him. When a shadow group offers Lynch a second chance at a life of adventure, he's paired with the last person he could ever imagine. In order to adjust, this old dog will have to learn some new tricks... OLD DOG is a striking new spy-fi series by DECLAN SHALVEY, the accomplished and innovative creator behind books such as Moon Knight, X-Men Unlimited, INJECTION, and TIME BEFORE TIME. Dave has a mild concussion, but we don't let that get in the way of bringing you a brand new ep! We've got movie talk on The Big Sick and Dunkirk, some curious insights into Dublin Comic Con and Rock in Roma and even a bootleg of a dodgy 2Pac cover! Enjoy
On this episode of Speakin' Geek the lads are away but Graham was lucky enough to attend Dublin Comic Con this past weekend so we have a bunch of fun interviews with some incredible talent. Graham got to talk about Declan Shalvey and Philip Barrett about their new title Savage Town, a brutal look at crime in Limerick City. It's a brutally poignant comic depicting life in Limerick City and it's a comic everyone should check out. Graham chatted with Tracy Sayers about her work on Freya her mythic adventure story about a faerie/human hybrid. Her origins, her other work on sites like Geek Ireland and discussed her appreciation of the talent of the young artist she has with her. Also, Graham sat down with Gareth Luby about his incredible work, reminiscent of legendary artist Todd Nauck. They talk about his history with hair and Graham sadly goes off on a ridiculous tangent, but don't worry he reigns it in. Finally, Graham reunites with Paddy Lennon famed author of the Flare series as they reminisce about how Graham and Paddy have discussed this series through every year of its inception. Not only that Paddy talks about his love for action figures and how his panel on them became the number. 2 thing to do at Dublin Comic Con 2017. Check out all the links below to check out their work and be sure to spread the love for Irish born talent. Stay tuned for next episode when Steve and Graham bring down the Dark Tower. @declanshalvey @philip_barrett @reikiwithtracy @PaddyLennon1 @garethluby

For those of you who couldn’t make it, here’s the audio in full from our ‘Pop Culture and Podcasting’ panel at Dublin Comic Con 2015 (plus bonus material)! Just a heads up, the audio from the panel is a little rough for the first 60 or so seconds. While Steve battles his potty mouth and corrupting young minds, Gerry is lost to a mild flu and an unhelpful tendency for repeated mention of Howard the Duck. Thus, it falls to a desanctified Jason to moderate this madness and put two pressing questions to the masses of the Con. Luckily for all, guest-star Liam Geraghty of the Comic Cast steps up to the plate to share his immense podcasting know how… and a hidden love for Sylvanian Families.
