Armor modeling enthusiasts, mark your calendars! In this deep-dive conversation with Neil Stokes, newly elected President of the Armor Modeling and Preservation Society (AMPS), we unveil everything you need to know about the upcoming AMPS International Convention taking place May 15-17, 2025, at the Penn Harris Hotel in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.Neal shares details about what promises to be their biggest show yet, with approximately 700 competition models expected and over 110 vendor tables already booked. Located just across the river from Harrisburg and near both Hershey Park and Gettysburg Battlefield, the venue offers convenience for attendees and activities for accompanying family members. What sets AMPS apart from other modeling competitions? Every single entry receives written feedback from judges, helping modelers understand their strengths and areas for improvement. This educational approach has fostered an incredibly high standard of craftsmanship that continues to impress even veteran attendees.Beyond the competition floor, visitors can look forward to special attractions including "Lady Lois," a full-scale M3A1 Stuart tank on display Friday, an extensive raffle, and seven specialized seminars including four hands-on workshops covering advanced modeling techniques. This year's theme is "African Armor," encompassing everything from World War II North African campaign vehicles to modern conflict equipment. Neil offers insight into AMPS' strategic future, actively reaching out to "armor-adjacent" modeling communities including sci-fi, Gundam, and Warhammer enthusiasts. These newer modelers often enter the hobby through different cultural influences but bring tremendous talent and fresh perspectives that enrich the traditional armor modeling community.Whether you're a dedicated armor modeler, curious about expanding your skills, or simply love meticulously crafted miniatures, the AMPS International Convention offers something for everyone.Model Paint SolutionsYour source for Harder & Steenbeck Airbrushes and David Union Power ToolsSQUADRON Adding to the stash since 1968Model PodcastsPlease check out the other pods in the modelsphere!PMM Merchandise StoreSupport the show with PMM Merchandise!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. The sinking of the unsinkable Titanic still fascinates us all over a hundred years after the disaster. It's the subject of all sorts of speculation and theories, and there's one of those that is actually relevant to our topic today. The question is this: if the Titanic crew had performed all the safety drills they were supposed to, if there had been enough lifeboats and if the passengers had been drilled in lifeboat procedures, would so many have perished when the ship went down? Some people have noted that a routine safety drill on the fateful Sunday morning was not held. This has been attributed to several factors including high winds and the morning church service on the ship. Even with that, however, there was only lifeboat accommodation for about half of the passengers and crew onboard. Was the ship thought to be so well-designed that safety preparedness could be relaxed? Probably not. But the safety regulations for passenger ships that we have today came in part out of the hard lessons of the sinking of the Titanic. In fact, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) was established in 1914 following the disaster, and mandated, among other things, that ships carry sufficient lifeboats for everyone onboard. So what's relevant in this story for us? If you've ever worked hard to make your piece bullet-proof or crash-proof or otherwise “unsinkable,” you may have been ignoring some of the important preparation to help not only prevent performance disaster, but to recover from it. When you're preparing to play a piece, expecting that mistakes will happen and learning to recover from them is the most important part of your practice. You can hope that you won't make any mistakes, but if you haven't prepared for how to meet them if they happen, you're playing a dangerous game. The icebergs are there and you may or may not hit them. But just as some emergency preparedness may have saved lives aboard the Titanic, your harp emergency preparedness could save your performance too. On today's show, we'll explore the myths around mistakes, perfection, excellence and safe performance preparation procedures. There's a lot for you to learn in this episode, so grab your cup of coffee and let's get started. And - safety first! - don't forget to buckle your seat belt! Key Points The Ad Hoc Committee's International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies for Criminal Purposes has faced challenges in reaching a consensus among countries because of the tension between privacy and human rights. It is because online and off-line identities and lives have become increasingly interconnected, that a convention like the Ad Hoc Committee's is necessary; to look into how this interconnectedness impacts children and vulnerable groups. Survivor voices should be heard and present in spaces like the convention, as they are directly impacted by the issues being discussed, negotiated, and decided on. Takedown mechanisms often re-traumatize survivors, putting them through a lengthy process that does not ensure takedown. This is episode #322 with Ioana Bauer, The Intersection of Cyber Security and Sexual Exploitation. My name is Dr. Sandie Morgan. This is the show where we empower you to study the issues, be a voice, and make a difference in ending human trafficking. Today, we are going to have a conversation about keeping our communities, our families, our children, safe online. Ioana, it's great to be here, and I've been following your work on the Ad Hoc Committee to Elaborate a Comprehensive International Convention on Countering the Use of Information and Communications Technologies, I have to take a breath, for Criminal Purposes in hopes to reach consensus for a global framework to address cyber dependent criminality. Now this is happening in the space created by the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime, and it's especially significant in our spaces where we work with those who have been sexually exploited, particularly in online spaces, sextortion, pornography, all of those aspects. We talk about that right here in Orange County at Vanguard University, and we discuss the issues around sextortion. Even here, we have cases where our local youth have been exploited by traffickers on other continents, in Africa, in the Middle East, in South America, so this is a global issue.
