Sounds Like Comics Ep 29 - Elseworlds (DC Crossover TV Event 2018) It has never been a better time to be watching DC on TV. That Film Stew's Luke and guest co-host Nathan take a look at "Elseworlds" - the fifth annual Arrowverse crossover event across three episodes of the live-action television series The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl. The crossover began on The Flash, continued on Arrow, and concluded with Supergirl. This special event introduces the characters Batwoman (Ruby Rose) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) to the universe, as well as the fictional Gotham City. In the crossover, Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), Flash (Grant Gustin) and Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) are drawn to Gotham City to confront Dr. John Deegan over his work at Arkham Asylum.

"Elseworlds" is the fifth annual Arrowverse crossover event, featuring episodes of the live-action television series The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl on The CW. The crossover began on December 9, 2018, with The Flash, continued on Arrow on December 10, and concluded on Supergirl on December 11. "Elseworlds" introduces the characters Batwoman and Lois Lane to the universe, as well as the fictional Gotham City. In the crossover, Green Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl are drawn to Gotham City to confront Dr. John Deegan over his work at Arkham Asylum.

Elseworlds was this year's CW crossover. But this year we saw a new character introduced, Batwoman.  Flash, Green Arrow and Supergirl make their way to Gotham City investigating John Deegan. Batwoman is not happy to have them in her city. Due to the epic nature of the crossover, the GSM shows did a mega podcast roundtable. Elseworlds: At the end of night one of the crossover, we found out that Dr. John Deegan was given the book by the Monitor and was in Gotham City. After detouring though Star City, Ollie-Flash, Barry-Arrow and Supergirl head over to Gotham. They run into some muggers and are taken into custody by the GCPD. They are sprung and taken to Wayne Tower. There they are greeted by Kate Kane. She has taken over the tower and offers to let them use it. They learn from her that Deegan is over Arkham and head over there for answers. Cisco, Kaitlin, and Diggle show up filling them in on the appearance of Earth 90's Flash and the message. Kara & Kaitlin distract the staff. Barry & Oliver confront Deegan, who frees the inmates and escapes. In a battle with an inmate Scarecrow's fear toxin is spilt and Arrow & Flash battle each other thinking they are battling Merlin & Thawne. Batwoman comes to save the day. In Arkham we had shout outs to Mister Freeze, Scarecrow, Penguin, Poison Ivy, Clayface, Riddler, Psycho-Pirate and the Luke Fox a.k.a. Batwing. Elseworlds - Batwoman Saves The Day: Elseworlds saw the formal introduction of Batwoman and the city of Gotham into the CW Flarrowverse. It seems that Bruce/Batman left Gotham 3 years ago and it fell to pieces. Wayne Enterprises fell and so did the city. They seem to be canonizing that this is the Nolan Batman's Gotham. But Bruce's cousin Kate Kane is on the job as Batwoman. It seems even she doesn't know where Batman went. But she is there to protect her city. All the drama that our heroes are bringing is making things worse. She just wants them out of the city. However she and Supergirl are World's Finest in her eyes. They both know each other's secret identities. Our heroes may have left Gotham, but we have not seen the last of Batwoman. Summary: Elseworlds was a fun crossover that checked so many boxes for the fans. Part 1 gave us Smallville shout outs and a battle with Amazo (seen in many of the animated series). Part 2 gave us the canonization of 90's Flash, a Green Lantern Diggle, and Batwoman. Part 3 was an alt-Superman vs Superman battle with Arrow making a bargain with the Monitor. We all felt part 3 was the weakest and Supergirl's show got hijacked. But the setup for next year's Crisis on Infinite Earths has us pumped.  It was also a blast to do a crossover podcast with Arrow Squad, Central City Underground and Maid of Steel. With 7 podcasters and a ton of listener feedback it was a fun, but late night. We see the history of Hank and Dawn as they share a tragedy.  We see a lot more than that, in fact...its more like Hank and Dong!  This was a real dark episode, showing Hank take one for the team to protect his younger brother Donny from a preying, pedophile Gym Teacher.  This could help explain some of Hank's aggression.  The episode ends with Rachel calling out to them from inside their dreams.  We know Trigon is coming.  What does this spell for our heroes? Speaking of heroes, James Gunn is producing a new film that looks like a horror version of the Superman origin.  This seems very exciting for some of us.  We talked about different kinds of superhero films, such as Super (directed by James Gunn) with Rainn Wilson.  I guess Gunn is into the darker side of superpowers.    Idols.  Do you have one?  We talked about some of ours and how we acted when we met them.  Sometimes, you lose control of things when you meet them.  For example, Jeff stiff armed Nickelback singer, Chad Kroeger, when he met Sammy Hagar.  It's probably ok, since it is Nickelback.  Pysher told us about how he met Macauly Culkin, which must have been an interesting meeting.  We talk a little bit of Kevin Bacon, and some of his better films.  Honestly, they are all pretty good.  How many degrees of Kevin Bacon do you have?  Jeff talked about how there was nothing to do in his hometown except go to see the movie She's Having a Baby.  That was the only film in town for middle schoolers.    Finally, we talked Elseworlds...how could we not??  The CW is establishing themselves as WAY better than DC films when it comes to delivering what we want to see.  Our favorite DC heroes encounter, and enlist, Batwoman and Superman in their quest to stop Dr. John Deegan from changing reality and becoming a god.  But a more serious threat, or Crisis, is imminent.  We talked about how DC TV is matching Marvel with their output, obviously not on a grand scale, and making fans real happy.  However, Mitch has problems with some of their animation.  Listen to find out which ones the mild, mannered, Geek can't stand. The annual Arrowverse Crossover is here! This years event, titled Elseworlds brought our heroes from The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl together to defeat Dr John Deegan as he rewrote reality in the form of a Freaky Friday situation where Oliver is Barry and Barry is Oliver! Unbeknownst to them, it was all part of a test from The Monitor who is assembling a team to help him defeat the Anti-Monitor in the Crisis on Infinite Earths, announced at the end as next seasons (2019) Crossover Event. Elseworlds introduced us to Kate Kane (Batwoman) and Lois Lane as well as teased some big things to come for both women! In the comics, the Monitor was essential to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez in 1982's The New Teen Titans #21, the character was established to set up the events of Crisis. He is billions of years old, born as the living embodiment of the universe's positive matter; as such, he is the natural enemy of the Anti-Monitor, a being of anti-matter.
