Michael Kay and John Flaherty had an awkward exchange during the Yankees game a few days ago.
During the commercial break, Gio took down all of the magnetic standings that were put up on the walls at WFAN. Boomer thought they looked cheap and dopey so Gio tore them down. We also talked about Michael Kay and John Flaherty bickering in the booth and people thinking they had a problem. Gio watched Tony Romo with Bryson DeChambeau on his YouTube channel and he couldn't believe how disheveled Romo looked. He said Romo looked like he slept in a tent and dressed from a Salvation Army bucket. Jerry returns for an update and reads some mean comments about Tony Romo. We also heard from postgame sound from the Mets after losing to the Blue Jays. Gio has video of Boomer farting in his backswing and all of that was Moment of The Day. In the final segment of the show, tomorrow night the Bills play the Dolphins and there will be more talk about this game because of the Tyreek Hill incident.
Hour 1 Today is the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 and we opened with our thoughts on the topic. We also talked about the importance of sports right after that and how it brought people together including the Mike Piazza HR. Gio couldn't believe how some of the Jets fans on air here were so negative, considering how positive they were last season as soon as Rodgers went down. This week they play the Titans and Boomer said they are a better team than people think they are. The Jets are a favorite on the road and that's because of the QB in Tennessee. They can't start 0-2. They now play a string of quarterbacks that aren't great. Jerry is here for his first update and starts with the Mets losing to the Blue Jays as David Peterson had a tough night on the mound. The Yankees also lost as they were shut out by Seth Lugo and the Royals. Benches cleared last night in Philadelphia between the Phillies and Rays. Aaron Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee and said to come along for the ride but if you jump off now, don't come back. Joe Benigno was not happy with the defense. Chris Russo said Saleh will be fired if the Jets are 1-4. Carl Banks said LT thought they could have grabbed 22 of the Giants' legends and played better Sunday. In the final segment of the hour, Jerry asked Eddie about smelly teenagers on the Warm Up Show. Hour 2 Boomer has a gift for Gio and it's some sort of Vikings hoodie. Boomer wonders if we should give Daniel Jones some slack for coming back from his injury earlier than we thought he would and he's playing with a bunch of new guys. Gio said he lost the benefit of the doubt because he has been bad for most of his career. Boomer thinks Rodgers and the Jets will bounce back this year and that Rodgers will have a good year. If he doesn't, Jets fans are not going to like his weekly appearances with McAfee. Gio thinks the Jets negativity is too high considering it's week 1 and they lost to the defending NFC champions. Jerry is here for an update and starts with the sounds of the Yankees getting shut out by Seth Lugo and the Royals. The Mets also lost to the Blue Jays, 6-2, as David Peterson had a rare bad start. Aaron Rodgers was on with Pat McAfee and Jerry has the clips. Carl Banks talked about the Giants performance. Jerry Jones talked about money curing any ill feelings during contract negotiations. In the final segment of the hour, there was an odd interaction between Barstool Eddie and Dan Bernstein at The Score in Chicago. Hour 3 Phil Simms joins us and Gio said Phil is very muscular. He's all jacked up. Phil was at the game along with the other Giants legends and said the Vikings looked better, faster and very well coached. Phil said Daniel Jones was making decisions way too fast. Phil also gave his impressions on Aaron Rodgers' first full game as the Jets QB. He was disappointed in the offense that they didn't throw the ball down the field enough. Phil thought Tom Brady did well for his first time doing a game on TV. Jerry returns with an update and starts with Aaron Rodgers on with Pat McAfee talking about the Jets not having the ball for enough time in week 1. The Yankees were shut out by the Royals. The Mets lost to the Blue Jays and are now tied with Atlanta for the final Wild Card spot. Patrick Beverley talked about playing in Israel and he said it's paradise everyday and people worry about him but he said it's great. In the final segment of the hour, somebody hung up sports leagues magnetic standings on the wall and it looked odd. Boomer thinks it looks ‘cheap and dopey'. Gio said there are a lot of guys in sports talk that don't want to grow up. Gio said Evan and Sal are still holding tight to their childhood. Hour 4 During the commercial break, Gio took down all of the magnetic standings that were put up on the walls at WFAN. Boomer thought they looked cheap and dopey so Gio tore them down. We also talked about Michael Kay and John Flaherty bickering in the booth and people thinking they had a problem. ...
Could something be brewing in the Yankees TV broadcast booth?
The presidential election is a contest for the most powerful office on earth. He has been involved in music and educational ministry for 25 years as an educator, elementary school principal, music director, liturgy director, and composer, and has served as music director and chairman of the liturgy committee for the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress since 1991.
John Flaherty is an American television baseball broadcaster and a former professional baseball catcher. He played for the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers, San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and New York Yankees. On RED, he talks about his journey throughout his career and the difference between broadcasting and playing baseball. Listen now to hear this amazing conversation about baseball and so much more!
Hour 2: How realistic is it that Max Scherzer and/or Justin Verlander can be traded in the next two weeks? Gio would find a way to unload Scherzer. Jerry wonders if Scherzer or Verlander would even waive their no-trade clauses for certain contenders. Maybe these pitchers think they owe it to Steve Cohen to stick it out with the Mets. Will there be a market correction on the price for starting pitchers? Starters make too much money and good relievers don't make enough. CLo returns for an update but first Jerry asks if golfing has cut into Gio's boat time and Gio shares a story about a boat mishap. He's losing it with his boat. Some guys out on the water in Suffolk are not familiar with Gio or WFAN. John Flaherty did play-by-play for Sunday's Yankees loss. What happened to Anthony Rizzo? The Yankees bullpen is going through a tough stretch. The Mets somehow managed to win a game. What happened to Pete Alonso? Max Scherzer had a lot to say about mud in his cleats and his landing spot. In the final segment of the hour, Gio explains that he knows his slip problem is a first-world problem but it's still frustrating. We hear from callers who feel Gio's pain. Gio and Jerry discuss other embarrassing moments to have strangers witness.
Hour 1: It's a beautiful summer Monday after a rainy Sunday and the New York baseball teams returned from the All-Star break with a dud. The Mets are done and the Yankees are on the road to nowhere. Gio spent the weekend partying with his father-in-law. They started early Friday afternoon and stayed out very late Friday night. Gio left a sliding glass door open and a lot of mosquitos and flies made their way inside. The Yankees bullpen melted down on Sunday. We know what the Yankees problems are but not if they can be fixed midseason. When will Aaron Judge come back and how close to 100% will he be when he does return? Fans are counting down the days until football season starts. CLo is in for Jerry and begins with the Yankees blowing a game in Colorado and losing another series to a bad team. Aaron Boone got very testy with the media. Jerry doesn't think we appreciate Gerrit Cole enough. The Mets salvaged the finale of their series against the Dodgers. Max Scherzer actually pitched very well. Jerry was at a baseball field with a mound that wasn't centered. Today is deadline day for Saquon Barkley and other franchise-tagged players. DeAndre Hopkins took more money to sign with the Titans. Gio had a problem with the coverage of the Scottish Open. Steph Curry wins at everything. In the final segment of the hour, Gio shares some top - and bizarre - headlines with Jerry. What words could Gio tweet out of context without getting in trouble? We've grown numb to cursing. Does Gio curse more than the average person? Jerry got duped by a well-known scalper and Gio scalped a fake ticket to the Aaron Boone game. Hour 3: It's deadline day for Saquon Barkley and the Giants. Will they come to an agreement on a long-term deal? Gio thinks Saquon will have to cave and take a deal he doesn't want because he, unfortunately, won't get a better offer down the road. The Giants offer isn't what Saquon wants but it offers the most security. Jerry thanks there's room for compromise between the two sides. It stinks that running backs are forced to live in this devalued world but it's reality. The disparity between QB and RB contracts is huge. Saquon is fighting an unwinnable battle. Gio and Jerry agree the Giants have a chance to be very good this season. It's great that we can actually look forward to football this year. CLo returns but first Gio discusses eating beaver after killing it while hunting. What careers earn more than running backs? Joe Benigno did a Q&A with the New York Post. The Yankees bullpen blew two leads in Colorado yesterday. The Rockies tried to hand the Yankees the series with horrible fielding mistakes. The Mets found a way on Sunday and avoided getting swept. The Wimbledon final was epic and had some interesting celebrity drama surrounding attendees as well. There were some strange sounds too. In the final segment of the hour, Gio is disappointed in who was chosen to be the “Golden Bachelor” because he's too attractive and too cool. Gio wanted to see a regular guy on the show. Gio could program an amazing TV network. Hour 4: How many New York baseball teams will we be talking about this fall? Gio guesses zero. For every bad team that goes on a run there are a ton that stink all the way through the end of the season. The Yankees have hope but are not playing to the standard we have for the Yankees. So much will come down to when Aaron Judge comes back. The Mets ruined any momentum they could have had with their recent 4 game losing streak. The Mets would have to play almost exactly like last year's team to make a run this year. It's a large enough sample size this year to believe they aren't capable of playing that well. CLo returns for his final update of the day. The Yankees lost a game and series and Aaron Boone told a reporter to “save it” with that question. The Mets only scored 3 runs this weekend. At least they won a game. Gio has a story of our friend Pete Bellotti just missing out on meeting his favorite actor, Paul Rudd. Vic Dibitetto posted about the reaction to his clip being played on the show and then calling into the show. CLo has a Moment of the Day featuring Jerry asking questions he probably regrets. In the final segment of the day, Gio and Jerry offer condolences to the family of Elise Finch from CBS News. Would you legally represent an alleged serial killer?

The Yankees swept the Kansas City Royals and left Kansas City on a season-high nine-game winning streak. Stacey recaps the series against KC, spotlights some players, and discusses the Apple TV + broadcast on Friday night and the tandem of Carlos Beltrán and John Flaherty in the YES booth. Stacey also talks about how important this series was for the Yankees in a few different areas—specifically pitching and Gerrit Cole. Thanks to his performance on Saturday, his April looks a lot better on paper, and his ERA is down to 3.00. Michael King continued his strong pitching, and for all the complaining Stacey does about Aroldis Chapman, his ERA is still 0.00. Next up for the Yankees: The Blue Jays, but there is good news, all the Yankees are in Canada. There will be no holdouts. Stacey previews the pitching matchups, and their pick of the series is the Jameson Taillon/Alec Manoah matchup on Tuesday night. YES Network analyst John Flaherty joined the Anita Marks show on 98.7 ESPN with Pat O'Keefe to discuss why the Yankees have struggled this season.
It’s been a year! This is episode 52. That’s 52 weeks of midlife reinvention stories out in the world! For this special episode, I’m talking to John Flaherty, my husband. John is a classically trained actor who is slightly obsessed with Shakespeare, music, motorcycles and classic cars. He teaches theatre and directs the classical productions at Sacred Heart University, and is also the Operations Manager for Hannes Precision Industries, a manufacturer of precision screw machine parts. This year he worked on a project with our kids to renovate and revitalize a 1974 VW Bug Super Beetle that was about more than car restoration. We had a little sit down to discuss our concurrent projects with all the challenges, pitfalls and wins involved.
JJ is beside himself about the Yankees getting swept by the Rays and the arrogance of this team thinking they're much better than they really are (2:50). It's not all bad though—at least the Knicks keep winning (10:50). He then brings on JackO, The Ringer's resident Yankees fan, for a venting session (18:00). Next, former Yankees catcher and current YES Network analyst John Flaherty talks about where the team goes from here and tells some stories about his playing days (41:30). Finally, JJ talks about the Mets finally getting deGrom some run support (1:04:55), takes some listener voicemails (1:07:20), and closes it out with some NFL draft prop betting tips (1:28:00). In a prior episode, John Flaherty and CEO Keith Weiner discussed the intricacies of inflation, its definition, and the monetary and nonmonetary forces at play. This time, they go a little deeper.
There's been a lot of talk of inflation lately, with predictions in the media running from one extreme to the other. Most folks define inflation simply as "rising prices." But as John Flaherty and CEO Keith Weiner discuss in this week's episode, it's just not that simple. There are a number of intricacies to be aware of if you want to understand what's really going on.
Our prior episode on "money printing" veered into fractional reserve banking at a few points, so this week John Flaherty and Monetary Metals CEO Keith Weiner dive into that topic.
Most people think in terms of purchasing power: how much can one's cash buy? In this week's episode, CEO Keith Weiner & John Flaherty discuss an alternate perspective. Instead of spending your capital, what if you invested it to earn a return? What can that return buy?
Is there common ground the among proponents of gold and bitcoin? John Flaherty and CEO Keith Weiner take on that question in this episode.
00:00-30:00:YES Network analyst John Flaherty jumps on to chat about the Yankees' offseason, the lack of pitching again, what went wrong in 2020, his playing career, the ultimate high of 2003 and ultimate low of 2004, the state of MLB, his NYC background, Brian Cashman's best/worst, what the team should do with Aaron Judge, being teammates with Tony Gwynn and more!
Economics has been called the dismal science. It doesn't seem to have the same respect as other fields of "real" scientific study. Why is that? John Flaherty & Keith Weiner discuss a number of reasons.
