Voices In My Head (The Rick Lee James Podcast) Episode 576 - Phil King - Miscarriages PHIL KING OFFERS HOPE AMIDST LOSS WITH POIGNANT ‘MISCARRIAGES' NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Unveiling one of his most emotive and powerful singles yet, acclaimed singer/songwriter and worship leader Phil King bows “Miscarriages” today. Written and produced by King with children's choir and string arrangements by Tyler Michael Smith, “Miscarriages” aims to bring comfort to grieving parents while serving as an important reminder that earthly loss is only temporal. King, a father of twins, was moved to pen the poignant ballad upon witnessing multiple families in his own circle experience the heartbreak of miscarriage. “After grieving with some good friends who lost a child in the womb, we learned that another couple was pregnant with twins," he explains. "We were overjoyed to celebrate with them, but then my wife received a call with more devastating news—they had lost their ‘Baby B,' a reference to the second child conceived in a twin pregnancy. In our journey of becoming twin parents, ‘Baby B' would have been our son. Hearing this news and imagining the pain of losing our own son is what set me on course to compose ‘Miscarriages.'” “After I wrote the song, I sent it to both couples with the intent of bringing comfort to them,” King shares. “Along with their reactions, and after playing it for a few others, I decided that with all the other millions of stories of miscarriages out there and so few songs on the subject, this one needed to be available for anyone to hear.” He adds, “In Heaven, families are reunited every day. My hope is that ‘Miscarriages' reassures parents with the truth that their baby is not actually lost. Rather, their child is safe in Heaven with Jesus, waiting for them on the other side of eternity. I hope this knowledge will prevail in the hearts and minds of people who have struggled with the grief of miscarriage as they listen.” A pro-life advocate, King performed his anthem “Not Forgotten” with GRAMMY-winning singer/songwriter Francesca Battistelli before 20,000 people at Focus on the Family's 2019 “Alive From New York” gathering. Featuring 4D ultrasound footage projected on screens in Times Square, the event underscored the undeniable scientific evidence that a baby in the womb is fully human, fully alive and fully worthy of protection. “Miscarriages” is King's second single of the year, arriving on the heels of “Heal Our Land.” A fervent prayer for America which released prior to last month's Presidential Inauguration, the song is a plea for peace, spiritual transformation and personal revival in the wake of change, tension and new beginnings. ABOUT PHIL KING Singer/songwriter, recording artist and worship leader Phil King is passionate about composing and sharing music that points people to Jesus. His acclaimed songs include the multilingual anthem “So Worthy,” which has been embraced by audiences around the world, as well as "Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone)," a duet with Dove Award-winning worship leader Meredith Andrews. King has also written and co-penned songs for such artists as Matt Redman, Leeland, Micah Tyler, Christine D'Clario and Rita Springer, and he has been featured on recordings and at live events with Lauren Daigle, Michael W. Smith, Jekalyn Carr and Danny Gokey, among others. Formerly a worship leader at Christ for the Nations and a worship pastor at Dallas' Gateway Church, King currently serves as a worship pastor at Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo, Texas. On today's show we chat with Emerson Day!For soulful singer-songwriter Emerson Day, storytelling came naturally from a young age. Writing songs as early as 8 years old, she was influenced by the sounds of a southern rock guitar and an old church piano. Growing up on her family's farm in Southern Maryland, she would sit outside playing guitar and singing for hours. God put a song in her heart long before she ever realized it.Driven by career and athletic aspirations, Day graduated from University as a decorated Lacrosse player with her degree in Homeland Security. The same competitive nature which drew her to sports and a career in federal law enforcement, quickly engaged when she felt God calling her to pursue music. In a true leap of faith, she began pursuing a music career. Thursday through Saturday she began playing shows taking request in local bars and venues in her hometown. But it wasn't until she started leading worship at a small church in North Carolina, that God showed her the true path he had for her. One of the Sundays she led worship, someone gave their life to Christ right in front of her at the altar. This moment solidified Emerson's calling and passion for Christian music. She never looked back.During the next year, doors continued to open, and Emerson signed her first record deal in 2023 with Fair Trade Services. She's been writing and recording music, showcasing her testimony through every strong, raspy note and powerful lyric. January 2024 marks her debut to Christian music on Micah Tyler's next single "People Like Us (feat. Emerson Day).”Her latest single, ‘Get Behind Me', is out now! emersondaymusic.com @emersondaymusic christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys
Guard your Gratitude! 1 Thessalonians 5:19 provides a staunch reminder that we are not to “quench the Spirit” in our lives. In other words, we have the potential to stunt or stoke or the move of God in our lives. However, Paul instructs us as men and women of faith to engage in three distinct and practices that can help create an atmosphere conducive to the Lord having HIs way in our lives: rejoicing always, praying continually, and giving thanks in ALL circumstances for this is God's will for our lives through Christ Jesus (1 Thes. 5:16-18). There will be things that threaten to quench the Spirit of God in your life. There will be circumstances, experiences, interactions, seasons, and relationships that threaten to rob you of the joy that God has prepared for you, but today as we enter this Thanksgiving week we wanted to encourage your heart and remind you that we serve a Good, Faithful, Loving, and Consistent Father who is a God of Healing, Restoration, Redemption, and Provision. Therefore, joining us today on the podcast to share his testimony is a man who understands the power of praise, Micah Tyler. Micah is a renowned Christian singer, songwriter, and worship leader who has countless accolades, awards, and chart-topping songs, but what I love most about Micah is his unwavering devotion to the Lord, his wife Casey, and his 3 beautiful children. Our prayer is that through today's conversation you would be encouraged to look for God, even in the most challenging times, knowing that you can and will find Him in whatever season of life you find yourself in. And remember this my friends, even if God does nothing else, He has already done enough! Be sure to give Him your thanks and your praise, because He is worthy of those things! Happy Thanksgiving! Jerrad Lopes of Dad Tired and singer-songwriter Matthew West team up for a heartfelt and impactful conversation. The pair dive into fatherhood, faith, and how their journeys have shaped them as husbands, dads, and men of God. Highlights: Blending Two Worlds: Dad Tired Meets The Matthew West PodcastJerrad Lopes and Matthew West kick off the episode with a lighthearted exchange about their first-ever podcast crossover. They reflect on how they met backstage at one of Matthew's concerts and how their connection with mutual friend Micah Tyler led to this collaboration. The Birth of Dad Tired: Jerrad's JourneyJerrad shares the raw story behind the creation of Dad Tired, recounting the darkest season of his life when he was ready to walk away from ministry, marriage, and fatherhood. A moment of grace from his wife shifted everything, leading to a viral blog post and the start of the Dad Tired movement. Marriage in Crisis: How God's Kindness Saved ItIn a vulnerable moment, Jerrad opens up about the time he considered divorce, only to be stopped in his tracks when his wife shared how she had been praying for his heart to return to Jesus. This moment was the catalyst for restoring his marriage and reigniting his faith. Why Vulnerability Matters: Encouraging Dads to Be RealMatthew and Jerrad discuss the power of vulnerability, especially for men, and how sharing their struggles and emotional moments—like crying as dads—can create a deeper connection with their families and audience. They swap stories about shedding tears while dropping their kids off at school and the emotions that come with being a father. Handling Criticism and Staying Focused on the MissionBoth hosts reflect on their experiences with online criticism and cancel culture, particularly when stepping into sensitive topics. Jerrad shares his strategy for staying focused on the mission of pointing people to Jesus, despite the noise of negativity. Matthew recounts a time when he faced backlash for a song and how his family rallied around him. Raising Kids in a World Full of Lies: Discipleship and TruthJerrad shares his approach to discipling his kids in today's culture. He emphasizes the importance of teaching them to recognize truth according to God's design while also instilling joy in their hearts. Both hosts talk about how they strive to create homes filled with joy and faith, despite the challenges of parenting in today's world. Spiritual Leadership: Life-on-the-Go DiscipleshipJerrad explains his philosophy on discipleship, focusing on Deuteronomy 6's "as you go" approach. He encourages dads to look for everyday, spontaneous moments to disciple their kids, rather than feeling pressure to have polished, planned devotionals. Matthew chimes in, reflecting on his own experience of balancing ministry, family, and fatherhood. Exciting New Ventures for Both HostsJerrad and Matthew close the episode by discussing their latest projects. Jerrad announces his role as the new co-host of Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger and his upcoming daily devotional podcast for men on the K-Love platform. More Than a Song - Discovering the Truth of Scripture Hidden in Today's Popular Christian Music
Don't forget the Episode Guide Download for THIS episode! Download it to interact with Scripture for yourself. I see a lot of conversation in the media about positive self-talk. And I get it. Talking negatively about yourself to yourself is not helpful. Inspired by Micah Tyler's song "Praise The Lord," I meditated on King David's self-talk in the Psalms. He pumps himself up by telling his soul to praise the Lord. Biblical self-talk is WAY better than anything you'll read about anywhere else. Let's learn about it together in Psalm 103 this week. Marci caught up with Micah Tyler recently for a fun conversation! He was a youth pastor for over a decade before he got into the music industry, so he really has a heart for young people and the issues they face. He just released an album in March called "People Like Us" which includes hits like "I See Grace" and his latest hit, "Praise the Lord." Micah Tyler refers to the songs he writes as "battle-tested," and we are big fans. In this episode, recording artist Micah Tyler and Rebecca chat about his new book Walking Free: Taking Small Steps To A Big God! Songwriter and recording artist Micah Tyler writes, performs, and lives out "battle-tested" music that gives glory to his God. Micah is the recipient of multiple Dove and K-LOVE Award nominations, and has written four BMI Top 25 Christian Songs. Along with five number #1 radio hits, his song Different is certified Gold by RIAA. Today, Micah's performance schedule ranges from youth camps to conferences to touring with other artists. Micah's story up until his break-through into commercial success was, in the best sense of the word, different. Hailing from the small town of Buna, Texas, he spent his young adult years as a youth pastor. The future artist picked up the guitar to fill the need in his ministry for worship leadership, and from that time God's calling for his life got louder and larger than he could possibly have imagined. After nine years, Micah left his stable job as youth pastor, moved his family into a single-wide trailer, and began traveling the region performing his music. Micah recalls, "I told the Lord, 'I don't know how to be a professional musician, but you've taught me to be faithful.'" With few connections in the music industry, Micah made ends meet by working as a sausage delivery truck driver while he pursued his calling. The story of Micah's music career serves as a testimony that, with a little faith and a big God, incredible things are possible. Micah and Rebecca talk about: Micah's testimony (and when God made it clear he was supposed to pursue music) What does faithfulness mean? Aiming to serve others, Scott Brickell has spent more than three decades guiding some of my favorite artists to develop successful and long-lasting careers. From successful Christian bands like MercyMe and Switchfoot to solo artists like Phil Wickham, Micah Tyler and Matthew West, Scott's artists have more than fifty number one singles, numerous gold, platinum, and multi-platinum records, and multiple Grammy, Dove, and American Music awards. Today, Scott shares his accidental introduction to the music industry and the journey from unpaid road manager to launching his own management company, BrickHouse Entertainment. My friends, if you've ever wanted a behind-the-scenes peek into the innerworkings of the music industry, this conversation is for you.
Recording artist Micah Tyler wasn't sure how God was using his music, until he met a woman who heard his song on the radio at the precise moment she faced a life or death decision. Her story continues to be the 'why' behind every song Tyler writes. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Singer/songwriter Micah Tyler spent his days wondering ‘what's next,' while driving a sausage delivery truck and questioning his own discernment to quit his youth pastor gig, sell half of what he owned to move his family into a single-wide trailer, and start traveling the region performing songs he'd written. Not an easy move with a wife, three kids, and no strong connection to the music industry at the time. “I just knew I had to be obedient and step out into music full time,” Micah recalls. “I told the Lord, ‘I don't know how to be a professional musician, but you've taught me to be faithful.' Micah shares his brave journey of sacrifice and faithfulness and how “Walking Free” (title of his book) in Christ is the foundation for fulfilling God's unique purpose in our lives and experiencing to the fullest all that God has waiting for each one of us. Is it difficult for you to see God's grace in the middle of what appears to be a disaster? Episode Summary: In this episode of the L3 Leadership podcast, Micah Tyler talks about his journey in becoming a chart-topping Christian artist, his new book, and how he finds faith through difficult times. About Micah Tyler: Micah is a Christian music artist who went from working as a sausage delivery truck driver to getting signed to a record label and playing hundreds of shows across the country. These nights on the road have certainly honed Micah's purpose for ministry through a growing list of self-penned tunes borne from a place that's as real as the person he's trying to be. “These songs are battle-tested,” says Micah. “I want to live the music I'm writing. There are some songs I can't write because I haven't lived there yet. When someone comes up to me after a concert and tells me how my songs affected them, I want to make sure they know I can relate.” Key Takeaways:1. Micah talks about how he went from being a youth pastor and sausage delivery truck driver to finding music as his calling.2. He talks about what it was like when his music charted and his career took off.3. He shares what he's both enjoyed and found challenging with having the platform he now has.4. Micah discusses his new book, Walking Free.Quotes From the Episode:“I'm trying to be faithful to whatever God's putting in front of me, and that works out a lot better than trying to be successful.”“There are those humbling moments when Jesus brings us back to reality.”“I was so much more grateful to have a record deal at 33 than I would've been at 23.”Resources Mentioned:Walking Free by Micah TylerBible AppConnect with Micah:Website | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram
