In Episode 129, Kyle and Sara, LPC's, interview Kimberly Amici, the founder of Build Your Best Family. Kimberly has such a unique voice in the parenting world because she speaks from the perspective as a mother, an entrepreneur and a designer. Years ago she began noticing that the tools businesses were using to build healthy cultures could be repurposed and used with families. In our conversation, she walks us through a great tool called the Family Retreat Packet. This is a tool Sara and I are very excited to utilize and add to our parenting tool kit. It gives parents clear steps they can take immediately and start forming a family cultural with their spouse and kids. Get our video courses at https://art-of-raising-humans.newzenler.com.View the full podcast transcript at: https://www.artofraisinghumans.com/in-this-busy-world-how-can-we-intentionally-create-a-healthy-family-cultureVisit our website and social media channels for more valuable content for your parenting journey.Resource Website: https://www.artofraisinghumans.comVideo Courses: https://art-of-raising-humans.newzenler.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/artofraisinghumansInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/artofraisinghumansPodcast Website: https://www.theartofraisinghumans.comThe Art of Raising Humans podcast should not be considered or used as counseling but for educational purposes only.

Self-control and all the others?  This month's episode helps to answer those questions and more. My guest Kimberly Amici is a Family Culture Coach and co-host of the Build Your Best Family podcast. Have you ever thought about what you want your family to be known for? Or the values that are important to you? Have you ever thought of creating a family mission statement? I know I hadn't thought about these things much before until I talked to our guest today, Kimberly Amici. Kimberly is a family culture coach, which she will explain about in our episode. As a wife and Mom of 3 kids, she realized they weren't doing much to be intentional and she found herself saying yes to everything and no to very little. This led her on a journey to start making changes in her own life and then in the life of her family to create values, a mission statement and what they wanted their family to be about, be known for, how they wanted people to feel when they entered their home and so much more. Kim gives us absolute GOLD today as she describes how she did this and how we can do this too. The biggest takeaway I got from this episode is that once we set down our family values, those don't change. What does change is how we accomplish those. During the pandemic or really any big family transition or change, how we work out our family values can keep us rooted and grounded. Kim challenges us to really think about what's important - what to say yes to and no to. And I loved to hear how Kim and her family lived out their value of playing games during quarantine - I know you'll love it. So get ready to get really intentional and really practical with us today - you can also download some free resources in our show notes that come directly from Kim so you can start this process in your own family. When I found Kimberly Amici's podcast, Build Your Best Family, I knew we were kindred spirits. Kimberly has such a heart for helping women develop a positive and nurturing family through her podcast, coaching and courses. She is an interior designer who helps people design environments where their families will thrive. Several years back, Kimberly realized her family's mantra had become, "Let's just get through this week." (Sound familiar?) She said they were always going somewhere but weren't going somewhere on purpose. When she realized this, she decided to embark on the journey of finding purpose for her family. Along the way she learned about creating culture, mission and vision and learned how to develop these into practices that changed her family's lifestyle. She talks about how every family is known for something, which I'd never thought about before, and she makes you think about what you want your family to be known for and how to implement that. Kimberly understands how environment and design of our homes plays into creating the culture we'd like to have. Even if you don't have kids at home, you can still put these principles into effect for just you, or you and your spouse. There's a lot of great take-aways from today's episode. I hope you'll be inspired to make positive changes in your own family from Kimberly's message today.

Family culture exists whether you know it or not - for better or worse. For many families, the culture feels strained, tense, reactive and downright unhealthy. Try throwing some personal self-care plans into the mix, and you have a recipe for disaster and high levels of frustration for everyone involved. Our guest today is the expert on this subject. After spending years helping businesses and large organizations create healthy, thriving cultures, Kimberly Amici is now focused on helping families thrive. Kimberly is the founder of Build Your Best Family, and today she's going to show us how we can get clear on our family values and start living them out in practical ways. Some awesome quotes from this episode: “Ask yourself ‘how do we want people to feel when they leave our presence?'” “Getting that buy-in from other family members can be hard, so we have to start by being clear on our own personal values first.” We also talk about: How to handle it when us moms really want our families to be known for being healthy, fit, and active - but often other family members aren't interested. What is your family’s culture? Do you know you have one whether you’ve thought about it or not? Kimberly Amici joins me today to begin our series on parenting and family culture. She and I talk about what family culture is and how to go about defining it for your family. Kimberly says “when you have a culture in your home where you’ve identified your values and you know what you want to be known for…it helps you make decisions.” Prevent decision fatigue by having a plan in place where you’ve decided ahead of time! We chat about getting our kids involved and letting them take ownership which allows our kids to feel a sense of belonging and empowerment. We also talk about creating a culture that points our kids to Jesus. Kimberly says it’s “deciding what it is that’s important to you and then taking small steps over time to get there.” Kimberly has fantastic encouragement for young moms who are in the trenches and for mamas of older kids who might think it’s too late to be intentional with the direction your family is headed. Kimberly is known for her creativity, strong faith, and commitment to living life with purpose and passion. She is an entrepreneur, designer, podcast producer, and family culture coach. What do you do when you build the life you always had planned for yourself – the prominent career, active family, thriving social life, contributing community member – but it doesn't feel the way you imagined it would? Instead of a sense of fullness you just feel overwhelmed and not in control of your time? What impact does this have on your family?   Family life is often just something we scramble to do outside of work hours. We do our best to fit in what we can, but often feel like we're catching up on what we want for our family because of the constant demands from work and outside activities. Kimberly Amici wanted her family to live by a set of values and a mission. So, she sat down with her husband and wrote out her ideas and expectations. But, in the midst of their busy life raising three kids and “going with the flow,” the Amici family didn’t have a set purpose or culture and it showed. However, through a series of ongoing conversations as a family, Kimberly has been able to identify a few areas of purpose that are now a part of her family’s culture. It took having more in-depth conversations to get buy-in from kids to really identify and own their unique family culture. Now, Kimberly provides coaching and resources that help others build their best families by having these conversations, choosing a few values to focus on and making small steps towards those values each day.   “The routines that we've put in place, these small steps that we take every day is what builds culture. It's not some big campaign saying we're going to transform our lives and become this other family. It's these teeny, tiny steps along the way.” Connect with Kimberly Amici:  Website: kimberlyamici.com and buildyourbestfamily.com  Facebook: facebook.com/KimberlyAmiciBuildYourBestFamily Instagram:  @kimberlyamici Links Mentioned:   Family Retreat Packet Build Your Best Family Podcast Featured Sponsors: Sunbasket -- get $35 off your order at sunbasket.com/dma use promo code "dma" AncestryHealth -- get your genetic health kit over at Ancestry.com/DMA

Do you feel like your family is out of sync? That you're all heading in different directions? That your priorities aren't lining up with your spouse?Well, you're not alone! Most family units lack a sense of mission and purpose. Decisions are made on the fly based on what feels good to the loudest, strongest voice. That kind of dynamic doesn't lead to a family experience that feels good for anyone. The good news is there is another way to do family, whether you're raising littles or getting ready to launch teens into adulthood. There's hope, too, if you find yourself leading your family as a single mom or simply don't have the support of your spouse. On this episode of the More to Be Podcast, I have the delight of chatting with friend and a graduate of the Life Coach Training Course, Kimberly Amici, about how to create family culture. Kim has been passionate about this topic for many years, intentionally creating family culture with her spouse and children, in ways that will inspire you to get creative without becoming overwhelmed. Her practical steps, which shape her Family Culture Project Course, can serve you right where you are today. Kimberly is also a life coach, entrepreneur, designer, and co-host of the Slice of Life podcast. She writes on her personal blog as well as for Faith Gateway and More to Be. She lives with her husband and their three children in the NYC suburbs. Family culture is a reflection of who you are as a family. Family evaluations allow the family to pick out characteristics that family members can work on, or how they can better honor their family mission. Annual retreats give your family a chance to step away and evaluate what is working and how you can improve. Retreats give everyone space to speak and feel heard. Value words mean little until you turn them into a verb. Define what each of the words in your values mean and stand for so there is meaning and purpose behind the words. Progress becomes measurable when you define what the values mean. Family culture is a lot like branding. When you go to a store or restaurant, their brand is obvious because of their commercials and slogans, colors and character. Families are the same way. You can tell what a family's culture is like when you go into a home and see what they identify with. How does your home make people feel? How do you identify yourself? What is your family brand? It's important to define your why so you can fuel the passion for following through with your family vision.
