What does it really take for your teenager to trust you with everything? Are you creating a home where your wife feels truly safe to open up? Could a father-son conversation reveal the surprising answers? Today I'm bringing you something truly special: a replay of one of the most meaningful live Q&A sessions I've ever recorded. This one goes way back to 2023, and I had my oldest son, Ethan, who was just 17 at the time (he's 19 now) join me, along with 35 awesome guys from The Dad Edge Alliance. What made this conversation so powerful is that it was completely unscripted. Real questions, raw answers, and packed with the kind of gold you can only get from honest, open dialogue. Even though it was a live stream with our members, the themes we dove into are just as crucial today. In this episode, you'll hear us tackle some major challenges that I know resonate with so many of you: Connecting with Your Wife When She's Emotionally Distant: Real strategies for bridging that gap. Creating Psychological Safety in Conversations: How to foster an environment where true communication can thrive. Navigating Discipline Without Losing Connection with Your Kids: Ethan even chimes in with his perspective on this one! The Power of the Experience Cube: We explore this incredible conflict resolution tool (originally taught by ClearLeadership.com) that's a game-changer for tough conversations with your wife, kids, and even at work. But what truly blew me away during this Q&A was hearing, in his own words, what builds trust between Ethan and me. And spoiler alert: it's not about being the perfect dad. It's about something much more real: showing up, owning your mistakes, and spending genuine time together. I'm not going to lie, you might even hear a little emotion in my voice when Ethan starts talking about this–it really hit home the importance of creating that safe space where our kids feel they can tell us anything. So, whether you're a dad wanting to lead your family better, a husband striving for deeper connection, or just a man wanting to improve your relationships, this episode is packed with hard-earned wisdom. Sit back, relax, and get ready for some real talk that still rings true today. This special "WINSday" edition is all about celebrating our members' successes and sharing the valuable lessons they've learned on their journey to becoming better dads. Sit back, tune in, and get ready to be motivated by the remarkable guests of the Dad Edge community. www.thedadedge.com/alliance www.1stphorm.com/dadedge
Mike and Stephen dive deeper into what makes a team consistently excel. They explore why humility is such a powerful trait in a leader and how staying curious can unlock new ideas from your team. Stephen shares how genuine listening – not just hearing words – builds trust and uncovers issues leaders might otherwise miss. The discussion shifts to the art of asking great questions. Stephen explains that sometimes posing the right question can lead your team to find the answer themselves, which empowers everyone. They also talk about getting your whole team involved in problem-solving, instead of the leader tackling every challenge alone. Throughout the conversation, Stephen highlights the often underestimated impact of appreciation. He reveals how something as simple as a heartfelt “thank you” can energize your team and motivate people to go the extra mile. It's a down-to-earth, insight-packed conversation that leaves you with practical ideas you can start using with your own team right away. Highlights The surprising way humility makes a team perform better How a leader's genuine curiosity can spark creativity in their team What “listening like a leader” really means in practice Why asking questions often works better than giving your team answers Engaging your team in problem-solving instead of tackling every issue alone A fresh take on showing appreciation – how a sincere thank-you boosts morale Key Takeaways Embrace humility: Admit you don't have all the answers and ask your team for input. Stay curious: Keep asking “why?” and learning from your team members every day. Listen actively: Give your full attention, and ask follow-up questions to truly understand your people. Ask rather than tell: Guide your team with thoughtful questions instead of just issuing orders. Solve problems together: Involve your team in brainstorming solutions to build buy-in and confidence. Show genuine appreciation: Let people know you value their work – small thank-yous go a long way. Connect with Steven on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stevengaffneycompany/

Married for nine years, Brenna—a psychologist and wellness consultant—and Edmund—a military veteran—share how their relationship has been shaped by both deep love and hard-fought resilience. Their conversation explores the emotional toll of unexplained infertility, how they've learned to support each other through grief and disappointment, and the importance of prioritizing their marriage above all else. They also discuss their faith and the role it plays in their decisions, and they open up about maintaining intimacy during a prolonged fertility journey—introducing the term "deliberate spontaneity" as a way to keep connection alive even amid stress. Whether you're navigating your own fertility challenges or simply working to grow stronger together, this episode is full of vulnerability, wisdom, and hope. Key Takeaways Infertility Is a Couple's Issue, Not Just One Partner's Burden Initially, Brenna bore the brunt of testing and treatment. They had a breakthrough moment where they decided to re-center as a team—emotionally, physically, and spiritually. "Deliberate Spontaneity" in the Bedroom Trying to conceive can quickly turn sex into a chore. They've adapted by planning spontaneity—romanticizing required intimacy so it stays emotionally fulfilling and connected. Open Communication as an Anchor Long conversations, emotional check-ins, and apologies are core practices in their marriage. Brenna's mental health training adds insight, but it's mutual vulnerability that creates safety and closeness. Supporting Others Through Their Story Out of their own experience, Brenna and Edmund have launched monthly webinars and resources for couples navigating infertility. Their goal: help couples strengthen their relationship first, so they're not starting their family journey from a place of disconnect. In the most recent episode of Hustle and Flowchart, we welcomed Robert Glazer to talk about his new book, "Rethinking Two Weeks' Notice," and related themes surrounding business, leadership, and personal core values. Our conversation ranged from the logistics of employment transitions to the importance of understanding oneself to be a better leader. We also touched on hot topics like remote work, AI technology, and setting the right foundation for team communication. Let's dive into the key points covered in this insightful episode.Transitioning Away from the 2-Week Notice ConceptRobert explains that the traditional 2-week notice is outdated and not practical for employers or employees. The idea is rooted in respecting and responsibly communicating an employee's departure, but it often falls short in practice. Instead, Robert proposes an "Open Transition Program," where employees can be transparent about their intentions to leave early on, allowing both parties to make smoother transitions. This program encourages honest conversations, giving employers time to find replacements and providing employees an opportunity to leave without burning bridges.Robert addresses common objections, such as the fear that employees who announce their departure might become disengaged or untrustworthy. He argues that these concerns are mitigated by having real conversations early. If employees are transparent about their feelings and plans, it can actually foster a more trusting and supportive environment. This proactive approach can help companies avoid the sudden upheaval that often comes with the last-minute two-week notice.Key Points and Takeaways:The traditional 2-week notice is not effective in today's employment landscape.Open Transition Programs encourage transparency and smoother transitions.Early, honest conversations can prevent problems and foster trust.Personal Core Values and Their Impact on LeadershipRobert spoke about his upcoming book focused on personal core values, which he describes as the ultimate decision-making tool. He emphasizes that leaders need to understand their own core values to align their actions and decisions with them, thus becoming more authentic and efficient leaders. This can significantly impact how they run their businesses, interact with their teams, and make decisions under pressure.Personal core values stem from deep-rooted experiences and feelings, often linked to one's childhood. Robert shared that understanding these values can provide clarity about past career choices and life decisions. It also helps in making future decisions that are more aligned with one's true self, leading to greater job satisfaction and effectiveness as a leader.Key Points and Takeaways:Personal core values guide decision-making and leadership style.Understanding one's values can lead to better career and life decisions.Leaders need to be authentic and aligned with their core values. The Importance of Open Communication in TeamsRobert and I discussed methods to foster open communication within teams. Open and honest dialogue can build a trusting environment. For instance, teams can incorporate exercises like sharing highs and lows or providing direct yet kind feedback. Such practices encourage vulnerability and the sharing of personal experiences, which can strengthen team cohesion and collaboration. One effective method Robert shared was initiating meetings with open-ended questions like "How's it going?" rather than direct questions about work. This can help uncover underlying issues affecting performance, whether they are personal or professional. Leaders should model this behavior to set the tone for the rest of the team.Key Points and Takeaways:Open communication builds trust within...

As a life coach, I am always diving into relationship conflicts people struggle with - that often begin with something like "He should just KNOW that I want quality time with him in the evenings" or "It really hurts when my husband doesn't think to arrange anything for my birthday". Many people feel frustrated or resentful in their marriage because their spouses aren't meeting their needs they way they expected they would. So they double down on trying to control or change them so they can try to feel better. Only problem is, marriage suddenly turns into a long list of obligations to try to make each other happy. It's not a fun time for anyone. I used to feel caught in that same struggle. Until I learned a life changing concept called "the manual" that I teach in this episode and why the best thing you can ever do for your relationship is to throw out your manual completely. Loving what is - that's what true happiness and freedom is. Want to stop arguing with your spouse?
