I have told you for a while now that I will be talking about quotes dealing with the Core Covenants that my varsity boys' basketball team has chosen for this season. My focus was on how we need to Intentionally Create our Culture. This week we start to talk about a key to how we intentionally create our culture—by establishing and living by our Core Covenants. I talk about the concept in today's episode and then I talk about five quotes that help support the concept. For more information on Core Covenants and establishing them with your team, I highly recommend you check out Bruce Brown's booklet called, "First Steps to Creating a Successful Team—Core Covenants" at the Proactive Coaching website. So, let's talk about intentionally creating the life we truly love… Have you ever found yourself struggling to find and/or do what it is that you want in life? More often than not, we tend to forget to ask ourselves “What is it that I want?” because we're either so fixated or being held down by what society tells us we should want. We've been living a life so rooted in doing things other people chose for us; hence, we stress over the smallest issues, getting discouraged and frustrated when we don't get results in a month. But I know, we all know—that isn't the kind of life we all want to live and age by. We all want to be happy. We all want to enjoy life. We all want to be able to actually create a life we love. And we are! We are indeed capable. We can actually live the life we love. But how you ask? That's exactly what we're going to find out in today's episode with Rethinking Me LLC's Founder, Tiara Nicole Riley. Join us today, and together, let's create the life we truly love! Why you need to check this episode: Understand the importance of doing the work to discover what it is that you truly want in life, and acting on that; Find out how powerful intentionality is in your journey toward creating the life you love; Receive affirmation and support—that you're truly capable of creating the life you really love; and Discover resources that can help you stay driven and passionate in going after your goals and ambitions in life “Sometimes, you got to be willing to walk away from the bad or the decent in order to make space for the good and the great.”– Tiara Nicole Riley Notable Quotes: "You can actually live the life you love. You could be well on your way in the next 90 days. You may not be there because sometimes you have to recognize there is a lifelong journey. But you can see tangible improvements in your life in three to six months of just being intentional about, first of all, figuring out what you want, and then making a plan to go after what you want and then actually doing it. Once you start to make those decisions that are aligned with what you actually want for your life, life's good.” – Tiara Nicole Riley “If black women were more happy with their lives and black men were more happy with their lives, maybe black love would be happier. Like, if we showed up to relationships happy, if we showed up to the relationship whole, living a life we love, if we got there first and then went into relationships, how much better would those relationships be? How much better would those parents be?” – Tiara Nicole Riley “You have the chance to get it right the first time. Go after it now, while you don't have bills, while mommy is still helping you with XYZ. This is your chance. Go for it now.” – Tiara Nicole Riley “Our definition of what's best for our child is not always what our child wants. And I think as a parent, we have to find that balance between allowing them the freedom to make their own decisions about what they want for their life and then helping them do that in the most strategic way.” – Tiara Nicole Riley “I don't think it's really and truly ‘I don't know'. I think it's rooted in ‘I don't feel like I have the autonomy to do what I want or ‘I don't know how to do what I want and do so profitably.” – Tiara Nicole Riley Sign up at www.listentodrberry.com  to join the mailing list. Culture change is about operationalizing your values, asking for input, and adapting when something is no longer working. Leaders at every level should be culture champions in their organizations. Rich Johnson, VP of Global Leadership Development at Spaulding Ridge and one of Crain's Chicago Business 22 notable executives in DEI, joins me to explore if culture can be scaled and, if so, what that looks like.  We'll be exploring… Defining culture. Culture is the collective behaviors of an organization and how those translate into the systems and processes people experience every day. It radiates from the top down and bottom up. There are strategic and grassroots elements to culture. Living your values. The DNA of your company is important: it is made up of the values you choose and the behaviors you endorse. Aligning your core values involves a deep commitment to practicing them at every level of the organization.  Culture and global growth. Having global employees can be challenging when it comes to culture, but hiring people who align with your core values puts the organization in a better position as you grow.  The intersection between decision-making and culture. The importance of making decisions that reflect your values and culture.  Resources Rich Johnson on LinkedIn

Every once in a while we do a flashback to an oldie but goodie from the archives, and we decided to do that this week because it was spring break here in Oregon, and I was headed out with some friends to tech free cabin up by Mt Rainier in Washington, and I realized last second I needed a book to read. So I grabbed one off the shelf that I had not read in quite a while, yet it is one I talk about at almost every single presentation I do. It is called The Power of Moments by Chip and Dan Heath, and this book is truly required reading for coaches. Why? Everyone has these defining moments in their lives that they vividly recall. But these moments are not an accident. Science actually tells us which type of moments people are most likely to remember in any experience. Some are extraordinary and some are terrible. As coaches, we do not get to choose which moments our athletes recall, but we do get to choose the moments we create in order to ensure what we leave our athletes with are exceptionally positive moments. Dan Heath joins us on the podcast to discuss how these moments arise and how we can help create them. This episode originally aired back in November 2017, but it is so good I wanted to replay it for you this week. Bio Dan Heath is a Senior Fellow at Duke University’s CASE center, which supports social entrepreneurs. At CASE, he founded the Change Academy, a program designed to boost the impact of social sector leaders. Dan is the co-author, along with his brother Chip, of three New York Times bestsellers: Decisive, Switch, and Made to Stick. Their new book, The Power of Moments, was my favorite book of 2017.  Amazon.com’s editors named Switch one of the Best Nonfiction Books of the Year, and it spent 47 weeks on the New York Times Bestseller list. Made to Stick was named the Best Business Book of the Year and spent 24 months on the BusinessWeek bestseller list. Their books have been translated into over 30 languages. Previously, Dan worked as a researcher and case writer for Harvard Business School. In 1997, Dan co-founded an innovative publishing company called Thinkwell, which continues to produce a radically reinvented line of college textbooks. Highlights Dan’s new book Power of Moments and how we are all defined by special moments “Wise Criticism” when high standards and assurance are used in feedback The tightrope of being a mentor/coach who allows players to take risks What have you failed at this week? The quest to find Peak Moments The Magic Castle – An “average” motel with Overwhelming experiences Transitions – the importance of the “first day experience” The FOUR qualities of defining moments The profound obligation of a coach to “get these moments right” The Tarantula study How do you create more moments of pride in sport? Develop resilience and don’t rush out of your discomfort What You Will Learn: How the chaos of 2020 impacted Anese and her team, and how they learned to develop resilience and were able to pivot the business to adjust to change What important lessons Anese has learned from navigating the unprecedented challenges of the past year, and why she believes the work is never “done” What steps you can take to help your team develop resilience and adapt to the challenges you are facing Why Anese challenged herself and her team to decide who they want to become in the new year, and why part of Anese’s resilience is in how she wants the pandemic to “serve her becoming” Why the pandemic has created a universal shared experience and an opportunity for all of us to consider who we want to become as we navigate these challenges How Anese and her team spent three months in spring 2020 doubling down on their efforts to be helpful, and how that helped create clarity for the rest of the year and 2021 Why Anese believes being “responsible” and being “response-able” are two very different things with different kinds of energy How D.E.N.T. (Do what you can, Engage with a full heart, Now, Trust) is a powerful acronym that helps guide and motivate Anese How Anese and her team use D.E.N.T. to make an impact on the struggle of food insecurity that many people face How Anese realized that decreasing their prices during the pandemic wasn’t the right move to make, and how instead she focused on adding value and being helpful Why it is important to not rush out of your discomfort but instead to fully experience your discomfort and the range of feelings that come with it Develop resilience and don’t rush out of your discomfort The reality is that 2020 was an exceptionally challenging year for businesses and agencies of all kinds — and we enter 2021 with no certain idea of what challenges the new year will bring. However, attempting to rush out of the discomfort we have felt through the last year can cause us to miss the important lessons the challenges we tackled can teach us. Instead, it is important to reflect, learn, and develop resilience to help us prepare for the coming year. In this episode of Onward Nation, encore guest Anese Cavanaugh shares how she and her team learned to develop resilience, and how doubling down on their efforts to be helpful are better positioning them for 2021. Develop resilience to face the future Think of resilience as armor to protect your business against uncertainty. When you develop resilience, you are better able to persevere through times of hardship and adapt to the unexpected. It is a trait that can be learned, practiced and mastered just like many other business skills. A big part of learning to develop resilience lies in taking the time to feel your discomfort and reflect on your experiences. 2020 was a difficult year for all of us, and it is important to acknowledge this fact and reflect on the trails we faced and the storms we weathered. It also offers us a chance to take stock of what worked and what didn’t, as well as to identify new opportunities presented to us even in the midst of the chaos. Why the right mindset can help you overcome obstacles Anese’s business has been primarily focused on speaking engagements and hosting leadership events, and the outbreak of the global pandemic meant many of the ways Anese engages her audience weren’t available in 2020 due to social distancing. However, Anese and her team spent three months in the spring focusing on how they could be more helpful, choosing to add value rather than to lower their prices. This important period of reflection and dedication to doubling down allowed Anese’s team to make a big shift to virtual offerings. Though they didn’t end 2020 where they thought they would, they were much better positioned for a strong 2021 than they would have been had they gone into “survival mode”. Their efforts to develop resilience and focus on being helpful paid off, and the team has a much stronger and more unified focus for the coming year. Anese demonstrates that resilience and the right mindset can help you and your team weather difficult times and emerge from the global pandemic stronger than before. On today’s show, I’m talking with Anese Cavanaugh. Anese created the IEP (Intentional Energetic Presence) methodology on how you show up, being intentional, the way you take care of yourself. She also created a company out of her ideal beautiful job (Active Choices Incorporated; better known as IEP methodology) and has written two books, Contagious Culture, and Contagious You. In this episode, we’re talking about how you can reenergize your leadership energy by building a healthy, happy, contagious culture within your business. The most important takeaway from this episode is the importance of culture in your work environment. Leadership and the culture are two critical components that make it fun for your team to do the hard work they have to do. People are what it takes. It starts with you and how (or if) you’re showing up. What do you want your impact to be? Work is as important as self-care, but most of the time, we look down and undermine the changes and benefits of having time to care for one's self. Cancel out that “grind” culture, and have some time for yourself as well! Anese Cavanaugh is devoted to helping people show up and bring their best selves to the table in order to create a significant, positive impact in their lives. In this episode, Anese shares how allotting as little as 10 minutes every day to create a space for yourself and just breathe in and acknowledge your goals and feelings can make a change in yourself and in your way of working. She also talks about the 4 mindset shifts that can help your journey to self-care easier and life-changing.   What you will learn from this episode: Discover the power of 10 minutes and 4 mindset shifts and how it can change your life Learn how to make space for yourself even if it's just for 10 minutes in your busy schedule Find out how changing your mindset on self-care can change your work results and improve your health   “Self-care is not selfish, self care is actually self full.” - Anese Cavanaugh Valuable Free Resource:   Take Anese's IEP Sheet. A: So one is the mindset that self-care is not selfish, self care is actually self full. Key Takeaways:   “Self-doubt, feeling rushed, experiencing imposter syndrome, these are all things that tie into not fully standing and holding our space and taking really good care of ourselves that we can do so.” - Anese Cavanaugh   “Just stop and take even 10 minutes for themselves, to get clear on how they're feeling, to notice their breath, how their bodies feeling, to notice their emotions right now and to ask themselves simply what they need. Just a 10-minute pause at any moment during the day.” - Anese Cavanaugh   “Start your day with "you" time, only for you. Nobody gets into that. Your emails don't get into that. Your texting doesn't get into that. Nobody gets into that space for those first sacred minutes of the day, and you spend that time to really get clear about the things I just offered and to set your intentions around it.” - Anese Cavanaugh   “Turn self-care from something that you don't have time for, you can't prioritize it, you'll do it later, turn it into your number one priority because it enables you to do more for everybody loving to lead.” - Anese Cavanaugh   “The other one is turning the word "responsibility" or the feeling of being responsible for everything, to turning it into response-able, which means instead of me being responsible for everything around me or everyone around me, instead of that, I am able to respond to whatever comes up.” - Anese Cavanaugh   Ways to Connect with Anese Cavanaugh Website: https://www.anesecavanaugh.com Website (IEP Method): https://blog.anesecavanaugh.com/subscribe   Ways to Connect with Sarah E. In this episode we speak with Anese Cavanaugh. Anese is devoted to helping people show up and bring their best selves to the table in order to create significant positive impact in their lives. She appears on stages around the world, guest lectures at universities, and writes (a lot). She is the creator of the IEP Method® (Intentional Energetic Presence®). She’s an advisor and thinking partner to leaders and organizations around the world, and author of CONTAGIOUS CULTURE: Show Up, Set the Tone, and Intentionally Create an Organization That Thrives and CONTAGIOUS YOU: Unlock Your Power to Influence Lead and Create the Impact you Want (which was released a few weeks ago). Her areas of expertise are on topics we’re passionate about and try to uncover in this podcast. She’s a leading voice on intention, energy, and presence, she helps people unlock greater leadership potential, collaborate more inspiringly, create more openly, intuit more bravely, and lead more joyfully and effectively. She believes that we all have our divine areas of expertise and talents and gifts, and that part of the reason why we’re on the planet is to pay those gifts forward. At 14 years old, she desperately needed a job so as to be able to help out with bills at home, following her parents’ messy divorce. This lead her to lie on her application and say she was actually 15. By the end of the interview, she admitted that she had lied. They surprised her by hiring her anyway based on her integrity and the fact that she came forward with the truth. “I remember the feeling in my body of being afraid to tell the truth but knowing it was the right thing to do. That was a major moment, where I got in touch with what integrity meant and how good that felt and that I wanted more of it”. Later on, after starting that job, she was having a hard time with her family’s situation and the things she had to give up in order to support the family. She was feeling sorry for herself and thinking how terrible her life was going to be. She then suddenly thought “what if your life doesn’t have to be terrible? What if what’s happening isn’t happening to you but for you? And it’s giving you skills that you can learn?” In that moment she got in touch with the concept of choice. Right then and there she made a decision to live a really awesome life. As you’ll hear, Anese is very visceral and connected to her feelings. As such, she was able to achieve a very high level of flow in her work and pay forward her insights in a way that’s very intuitive to relate to and learn from. We cover a lot of ground: - The impact of how the way we show up to situations has on everything that we do - How the way we take care of ourselves influences our ability to influence other people - How post-it notes and vision lead her to her dream occupation doing what she loves and fulfilling herself - How the choices we make become choice points affecting our future choices and forming new neural-pathways in our brains - The importance of emotional authenticity - How holding accountability is essential for organisational success - How true leadership isn’t possible without self-care ...& much more About half way through our video call, Ronen had to step out of shot several times in order to go blow his nose. Naturally he didn’t want to interrupt the recording and the flow of the conversation but it was becoming odd not to explain to Anese what was going on. This became a real life lesson in what Anese is preaching - the environmental energy was shifting around those circumstances and by addressing it we were able to put Anese at ease and confirm this had nothing to do with our conversation. Had we not done that, this would be hanging over our heads, unspoken of, and we wouldn’t have had her full emotional bandwidth. This interview will help you tap into your inner leader, no matter where you are in life. We hope you enjoy your listen.

On today’s show, Anese Cavanaugh joins me for the second time. She’s an author and speaker, who shares her knowledge around the country about leadership, culture, being positively contagious, nurturing our relationships and creating impact. Anese and I chatted about some of the concepts included in her latest book Contagious You: Unlock Your Power to Influence, Lead, and Create the Impact You Want during our conversation.  We talked about intentional energetic presence (IEP), how to prevent burnout, and how to detect workaholism.  Anese also shares a useful tool for leaders called DENT.   Takeaways: [4:39] Anese talks about what prompted her to write her new book called Contagious You. [6:07] Anese shares the meaning of Intentional Energetic Presence. [7:18] Mike shares his own personal example and how having a high level of energy can sometimes get in the way of being fully intentional, present, and aware. [9:25] The concept of meeting the group where it is, without compromising your energy. [13:30] Having a good energetic presence doesn’t mean to be bouncing off the walls, it is the quality of this presence that matters and how it serves the rest of the people in the room. [15:35] There is a difference between men and women in a group, where men tend to interrupt and take more space while women are often more careful. [17:43] The cultural background influences the way we communicate and what we considered acceptable and not on our closest relationships. [21:05] When we feel comfortable we don’t have to worry so much about being present. [23:55] Anese shares different pieces of burnout: Connection with the pause and being present. Stay connected to the purpose (Why are you doing what you are doing?). Connect with people. Connection to pain, pleasure, and play. [33:55] Sitting with your pain and struggling helps to process the feeling faster and learn from it more effectively. [34:12] These are questions you should ask yourself if you are wondering if you are just being passionate about work or if you have become a workaholic: How are you feeling? Is it having a negative impact on my family and relationships? If it is, can I stop it? What do I need? [37:30] In order to avoid burnout it is important to be aware of the relationship we have with our work and to pay attention to how our purpose is growing along with ourselves. [39:10] Anese shares the concept of leadership depression and how it is related to isolation and the feeling that regardless of how much is done, it is not enough. [45:34] A way to have more energy to keep on contributing tomorrow is by practicing the DENT: Do what you can, Engage with heart and honest intent, do the best you can Now, in this moment, and Trust that it is enough. [47:12] It is essential for us to take care of ourselves so we can be super clear in our intentions, we can manage and be responsible for our energy, and be present.   Resources: Purchase Bring Your Whole Self to Work and gain access to bonus material Mike Robbins Website Mike Robbins Podcast Mike Robbins on Facebook Mike Robbins on Twitter Mike Robbins on Instagram Contagious Culture: Show Up, Set the Tone, and Intentionally Create an Organization that Thrives, by Anese Cavanaugh The Leader You Will Be, by Anese Cavanaugh Contagious You: Unlock Your Power to Influence, Lead, and Create the Impact You Want, by Anese Cavanaugh Listen to the first show with Anese Cavanaugh: “Intentional Energetic Presence with Anese Cavanaugh” Anese Cavanaugh

We all know that having a positive mindset is the secret source to cultivate lives and businesses that we love but where to start? That's the question we posed to mindset expert, Ayla Khosroshahi on this episode of the show. Ayla is the co-founder of Mindshift Ninja, a company she founded with her brother to support people in overcoming limiting beliefs, getting to grips with their why and learning how to thrive without strain. We start our conversation by exploring the empowering questions Ayla asked herself that helped her go from burnt out and sick to doing the work she does today. She explains why willpower isn't enough to manifest your dreams and the strategies you can use to show up even when you don't feel motivated to. We explore simple, daily practices you can use to get into alignment and how to approach productivity with compassion rather than judging ourselves on how much we output. Ayla gets candid about the mindset challenges that popped up since she gave birth for the first time last year and also gives you the tools you need to create a growth mindset no matter what challenges pop-up in your life.   Your personal style is reflected in all the ways you present yourself - including your interactions with others. You can choose how you want to be known and the legacy you create - by first deciding how you want to feel inside.   Here are the biggest takeaways from this episode: Why intentionally creating positive interactions isn’t only nice for the people around you. (Hint: there are major perks for you too.) How to intentionally choose what you put out into the world. How not making a choice is a choice in itself. I’ll give you some pointers on how to project out into the world what you want to take in. (Hint: you have way more control than you think.)   Hey there! I’m so glad you are tuning in!   Today we’re going to be talking about how to intentionally create positive interpersonal interactions.  We all remember our parents and teachers saying, “treat others how you want to be treated” -- well, I think they were on to something! The hundreds of ordinary, small personal style choices you make each day can actually shape the way you feel and help you put out into the world what you want to get back. Join me as we dive deeper into ways to put a little more positive energy into your every day. As always, my goal is to make it quicker and easier for you to access more ease, joy, and intention in your life...because happy looks really, really good! Enjoy the show! It's called "The 100 Acts Of Kindness Challenge" and when you sign up, I’ll send you 30 days worth of ideas and inspiration for acts of kindness you can do anytime, anywhere - with friends, family, and even strangers! - so you can put out and bring in a little more positive energy each day! Click HERE to get started now or just text the word 100ACTS to 44-222 and we’ll send it out right away! ________   If you'd rather read than listen, here's the FULL TRANSCRIPT OF EPISODE #9  HOW TO INTENTIONALLY CREATE   POSITIVE PERSONAL INTERACTIONS   Welcome to Style With Intention - where we talk about how to use your personal style as a tool to create a life you love.We believe choice is empowering, complacency is boring, and happy look really, really good!   I’m your host, Annie Kip, and today we’re talking about the value of intentionally creating positive interactions and experiences for yourself and for other people.   And I just want to admit up front -  I’m not talking about this for the purely altruistic reasons you might expect. I want to talk about creating positive interactions for selfish reasons. Let’s start from there, since you are much more likely to do something if you can see how it will benefit you -- but rest assured that the good you will put out into the world will benefit everyone else as well. You probably know people who just make you feel good when you’re around them. This goes way beyond whatever they’re wearing and how the decorate their home or office. It’s the way they make you feel.   When I first met the teachers at my son’s new school, there was one that struck me. At first, she didn’t seem like someone that I normally would be drawn to - I didn’t think she would be interested in me either - but there was something special about her that was special. She had a funky, casual style, that I admired, but the thing that really struck me was her “vibe” - for lack of a better word. Talking with her for the first time, it was as if she presumed friendship and familiarity - in a really nice way. There was no formality and none of that careful, "guardedness" a lot of people have when you first meet them. She was just warm and friendly and open, right from the start.   She’s become one of my favorite people. It just feels good to be in her presence and she makes you feel good about yourself when you talk with her.   Then I realized the other day that it also probably feels good to BE her.   She’s putting whatever she’s feeling inside back out into the world. And it’s coming right back at her in the form of the positive interactions she’s having with people like me.   Your interactions start from how you feel inside and they result in what shows on the outside. You just don’t get to be someone who makes other people feel genuinely good draws positive experiences and opportunities to you - if you feel bad, closed, and down inside. So it’s super important to figure out what makes you feel good inside and what makes you feel “meh” or even “ick”   When you’re listening to the “whispers” - those subtle signals that you get from your brain which tell you what lights you up and what feels good and what doesn’t - personal style choices around interactions are grooving well, it’s like an endless circle of feeling good inside and sharing that goodness out with people on the outside, and getting positive feedback that just makes you feel more good on the inside - and so on.   Sure, you’re going to have to deal with difficult people - and some of the things we’re going to talk about today will help with that - but today, we’re talking about how to create good interactions out of nothing.   We’re going to start from neutral, because I want you to see that you always have some amount of influence in the way your interactions go.   You may not always be aware of it, but you’re always making a choice about what you put out into the world - because not making a choice is a choice nonetheless. For instance, Maybe you’ve heard of “RBF” - resting bitch face, pardon my language, but I think this is hilarious - because sometimes people do have a scowl on their face when they are lost in thought. It’s worth trying to notice if you have an RBT - because it’s a choice. You probably aren’t thinking too hard about how you come across, unless you’re sort of neurotic like I am.   Many of the simple, ordinary choices you make and the things you do all day - they just are a part of you - but you can shape them by choosing how you want to feel inside first.   I don’t think someone with RBF is thinking positive, happy thoughts inside. And if she is, the way she looks is out of alignment with how she feels and that’s not good. She will get reactions that don’t match what she thinks she is putting out there.   Your personal style shows in the look you wear on your face, whether it’s conscious or unconscious - as well as your demeanor, your attitude, and the vibe people feel when they’re around you.  It’s how you do or don’t engage and invite people into your personal space. It’s how you make people feel in your presence. It’s how you are there for a friend and how you engage with people - and even strangers - you come across throughout your day.   Here’s an example of how your choices can make a lasting impression - this story is about a friend from my childhood. She was actually the mom of one of my best friends and she was sort of like a mom to me too.   When I think of Martha, I think of someone who never had a bad thing to say about anyone. She always seemed “up” and happy to see me. If there was ever negative talk about something, she would just laugh and move the conversation to more positive topics. She was so easy to be around and you always felt loved and accepted in her presence.   I can’t really remember anything she wore back then or what her house was like - but I know how good it felt to be around her. She’s probably in her 70’s now, but Martha is still the same beautiful person - inside and out - that she was back when I was a kid. Who she is inside, just shines through on the outside and it’s delightful.   Your personal style is reflected in all the ways you present yourself and show up in the world - and the way people know you and what they’ve come to expect from you. You can choose how you want to be known and the legacy you create, like Martha who did it probably unconsciously, - by deciding how you want to feel inside.   The way you feel inside comes across - consciously and unconsciously - in everything you do - even how your face looks when you’re lost in thought (like the RBF) - but it has to start from the inside. Your feelings are what will drive your interactions.   We know your emotional state can be affected by a lot of outside circumstances - so what you choose to wear, how you set up your home or office, and how you choose to spend your time – your attitude, what you talk about, the way you take care of yourself, the way you navigate your relationships, and the way you work and play are all factors. The 100’s of ordinary personal style choices you make result in the feelings you experience.   Only you know what will make you feel good or bring you down. You can learn more about the “whispers” of information that I think are so important to developing your own personal style by going back and listening to episode 2. Essentially, I believe that everyone has within them the info they need to make choices which make them feel amazing - and if you’re not living a life that makes you feel amazing, you may be missing the “whispers” which are telling you what would make you happier.   Today, for instance, I was getting ready to go to a meeting where I had to get up in front of the group and give a presentation. A small presentation, but still, I get really nervous. I first reached for my sensible black pants and basic black flats and was looking for a safe sweater to wear -- when I realized that this outfit was NOT making me feel good. I needed something else. I needed a spark and I took a second to listen to the “whispers” as I have learned to do over time -- and ended up in some heels that I rarely wear because they’re a little edgy, some boyfriend jeans, a white silk shirt and beautiful pendant necklace. I also wore my hair a little curlier than usual.   I used to stick with safe and possibly a little boring when I felt nervous - but I’ve realized that a little edge and heels, definitely make me feel more confident. And it did make me feel great when I gave my presentation and talked to people afterward. I felt “on” and sharp and more like the confident version of myself that I needed to be today. This is the value of listening to your whispers - higher quality feelings, resulting in higher quality interactions.   When you intentionally make personal style choices - in the clothes you wear, the things you have in your home or office, and the way you interact - that lift your spirits and cultivate good feelings - you are able to create the experiences which add up to a life you love. One of the fastest ways I know of to start feeling good is to be kind to other people. Really go out of your way to make someone else happy.   It helps you get out of your own way, shows you the affect your choices can have on other people. It’s also the best way I know to get out of a funk or cheer up when you’re feeling blue.  You can always choose to be kind - no matter what. And even if you choose to do it for selfish reasons - to make yourself feel better - it’s going to make the people around you feel good too!   I’ve created a 30 day Kindness Challenge that I’d like you to try. It’s low-pressure and all upside - no matter how you do it. When you sign up, I’ll send you 30 days of ideas for acts of kindness you can do anytime, anywhere.  Take what you want and use the ones that are best for you. We’ve gotten really great feedback from people who say it made them feel really good to bring their focus onto being a little more kind everyday. You don’t have to get a new wardrobe or redecorate your house to feel the way you want to feel. This is free and available to you anytime, anywhere! You can use being kind as a jump start to taking charge of your personal style. It’s an easy way of creating the experiences you want to have in your life! Start putting out into the world, the goodness you want to feel - and it will come back to you.   You can affect the quality of your life, have more of the good experiences you want to have, attract the people and opportunities you want into your life, and create better connections with the people you care about - by intentionally reaching for higher level, happier emotions.   This doesn’t have to be super complicated. It isn’t a ton of work and there aren’t strict rules. You don’t even have to do years of therapy to get there.   All of the small, ordinary choices you make every day can have a huge impact - this is the power of having Style With Intention. You can get started right away, by just texting “100ACTS” - that’s 1-0-0-a-c-t-s - to the number 44-222 -- and we’ll get you going right away! When you look at the IEP method there's 3 parts to it. The first thing is the ability to reboot your presence in the moment no matter what's going on. This is something that's happening all the time. Let's just say one of us check out or I've got to regroup to think about your question and I find myself going in my head to find the answer, I still have to reboot, come back, and be fully present with you again. That part of is presence, being able to be present in the moment is happening over and over again. I find that the more you practice it, it's like a muscle, the stronger it gets. The second part is the ability to create intentional impact which is a huge piece. The idea is that we're always creating impact. If I go out on stage, our interaction here, if I'm working with a team, if I'm working with my kids, if I'm having a conversation with my partner, I'm always creating impact. And the impact is either going to move us forward move us forward be positive or it's going to maybe move us back, and create little bit more of a mess, or be kind of beige and who wants beige? She is the creator of the IEP Method® , an advisor and thinking partner to leaders and organizations around the world, and author of Contagious Culture: Show Up, Set the Tone, and Intentionally Create an Organization That Thrives. We’ll see you on the other side of the conversation with our round of questions. Social Shareables - Takeaways from part two with Anese, When addressing culture, it is an inside out approach. Leaders, look inside and then move out. We all have superpowers and have an impact on those around us. Choose today how you will use them. Is the way I show up Is the way I talk to myself Is the way I talk to other people Is the way I take care for myself Is the way I regard others ...helping me have the impact I want to have on the world? If, “no”, then there is beautiful work to be done there.     Showing up for yourself means you share the idea in a meeting when you normally wouldn’t share. Make your next meeting more productive: make it shorter and make an agreement to have no phones in the meeting.   Questions for entrepreneurs, leaders, and managers Do you believe you have superpowers? IE, do you truly believe you impact those around you with your attitude and energy? How can you approach your next meeting with intention that will affect the energy of you and your team?
