From daily walk-in videos to clips of my workouts, I'm documenting my progress in a way that not only tracks physical change, but also reflects the work I've done around body image and self-confidence.I talk about how difficult it used to be to show my full body on camera, let alone share how I walk. I've been leaning into this discomfort and using content as a way to tell my story—not to fit in, but to stand out. I also get into something new I've been doing: writing messages on coffee cups as part of my “Caffeine with Compassion” project. What started as a deeply personal struggle with handwriting as a kid has turned into something I now proudly share. This episode is a reminder that the things we've hidden away can become the things that make us most powerful. I'm not telling you to wait for proof or collect results before you believe in yourself. I'm asking you to flip that. Decide first. Decide that you are the type of person who does the thing you're aiming to do. Then take the action. This is not about faking it or waiting to “earn” your place. It's about reinforcing a belief you already chose to adopt. The way we usually approach confidence is backwards. We think we need a track record before we can claim something. But what if that track record actually becomes more meaningful when it supports a belief we've already accepted? In this episode, I explain why waiting to feel like you belong will keep you in a cycle of doubt. I also talk about how your mind will try to pull you back into that loop. This isn't a one-time mindset shift. It's a process. It will take repetition and self-awareness. But the more you do it, the more it becomes your new normal.I break down how this works whether you're trying something new in your career, fitness, personal development or any other area of life. If you believe you're the type of person who follows through, creates, or builds… your actions will support that identity. It's about working with yourself, not against yourself. If you're ready to start reinforcing your own belief system instead of constantly trying to prove yourself to others, this episode will help you begin that shift. Let people be who they are. That's it. No fixing, no reshaping, no wishing someone was different. When you stop trying to put people into boxes or mold them into who you think they should be, you free yourself from so much frustration and disappointment. The truth is, people only change when they are ready to. The same goes for you and me. All the guilt trips and nagging in the world can't force someone to make a lasting change. So why not drop the expectations and meet people where they are? This mindset doesn't mean you don't care. It just means you're choosing peace over control and connection over judgment. This episode also touches on giving yourself grace when your thoughts run wild or you slip into old habits. I talk about aiming for progress over perfection and using kindness and curiosity to guide how you respond to others and yourself. There's even a little side trail into aging, forgotten stories, and living a longer life with more purpose… because you know how my mind works sometimes. So if you're ready to breathe a little easier and build stronger connections with the people around you, this one's for you. Please share this episode with anyone you think would be interested in listening to it.Visit darylperrypodcast.com for links to the show page on each of the major podcast directories. If the answer is anyone other than you, there's a good chance you're stuck in a loop of anxiety, burnout, and pain that won't let up until you shift your focus inward. I share some of my own story, including how I used to operate from a place of proving people wrong, and how I've come to see the real value in separating my actions from my self-worth.This episode is a call to honesty. It's about checking in with yourself, acknowledging if you're still trying to meet someone else's expectations, and understanding that you have the power to change that narrative. Whether you're doing it for a parent, an ex, or even someone who's no longer here, you don't have to carry that weight forever. When you start showing up for you, everything starts to change. I also touch on the role therapy can play in helping you get there and why this type of deep internal work is worth the effort. If you've been on a journey of self-growth, or are just starting to explore what it looks like to truly live life for yourself, this episode is for you. Please share this episode with anyone you think would be interested in listening to it.Visit darylperrypodcast.com for links to the show page on each of the major podcast directories. You simply decide to believe in yourself. I know it sounds basic, but this one decision can change everything. It's not about waiting until you feel ready or confident. It's about choosing to believe that you're either already capable or that you'll figure out what you need to learn. Most people live in a constant loop of self-doubt, insecurity, and comparison. But there's another path. A path where you build belief by choosing it and then reinforcing it daily. That reinforcement takes practice and consistency, but that's where this podcast, the daily email, and all the content I put out comes in. I'm here to help you center your thoughts and keep coming back to that belief in yourself. We talk about the power of choosing your thoughts, handling discomfort when trying new things, and how believing in yourself gives you the clarity and direction you've been looking for. You'll also hear how I'm listening to audiobooks during these sessions to keep my mind engaged instead of looping through the same music playlist. This episode is a behind-the-scenes look at how I make adjustments based on how my body is responding, while staying consistent with activity and staying mindful of recovery. I took a step back for a couple days, and it gave me just enough mental space to look at things differently. Even something as simple as reorganizing my kitchen routine made me think about how stepping away can help us come back with a fresh perspective.I get into why it's okay to pause your structure, how momentum still plays a role, and why giving your mind space to breathe is valuable for mental clarity and creativity. I also explain how I structure my work—especially podcasting, blogging, and social media content—and why some of it is planned in advance while other parts are done in real time. This podcast is one of those things I love doing in the moment, and today's episode is exactly that.We also talk about how mental and emotional health ties into our productivity and presence. If you've been feeling overwhelmed or mentally exhausted, you're not alone. And no, there's nothing wrong with you. That fear might always be with you, but it doesn't have to control you. The truth is, fear of the unknown, fear of rejection, and fear of things not going the way you planned will always exist. But so will your desire to do the thing that's been pulling at you for years. The only way to overcome fear is through action. Not perfect action. Not “confident” action. Just action. When you move forward in spite of fear, you'll realize that setbacks and rejection are part of the process. It's not just about pushing through workouts or checking off boxes. It's about showing up for yourself emotionally and mentally, especially during the hard times. We all face moments where we feel like we're taking steps backward, where emotions are overwhelming, or when the easiest thing to do is shut it all down. But real growth comes from feeling what you need to feel, sitting in those emotions, and learning how to observe them without judgment.I share why it's important to be kind and compassionate toward yourself in those moments when the world feels like it's chewed you up. I also explain how therapy has helped me build a stronger connection with myself and why I believe it's such a valuable tool if you have access to it.My goal with this episode is to remind you that showing up isn't just about the surface-level stuff. We are surrounded by messages that keep us chasing things outside of ourselves. But what we really need is to reconnect with who we are on the inside and let that drive everything else. This is what it means to live an inside out life.I get into the difference between that inside out mindset and the outside in one that most of us have followed at some point. I also touch on how hopelessness, anxiety, and regret can trap us and how important it is to shift into realistic optimism. That means believing things can work out because you're doing the work and navigating life with purpose. We need more people reinforcing hope and control. You have the ability to change what you can and build the life you want. If you shift your perspective and start seeing failure as a learning experience rather than a reflection of your worth, it will completely change how you approach goals, challenges, and personal growth. Most people hesitate to put themselves out there because they're afraid of what could go wrong. But here's the truth—failing at something means you had the courage to try. It means you took a step forward. And even if it didn't go as planned, you gained insight that will help you refine your approach moving forward.I share a personal example of launching an online platform that didn't work out the way I expected. But through that experience, I gained valuable lessons that helped shape how I structure and organize my content today. If I had let that experience define me as a failure, I wouldn't have been able to adapt and move forward in a way that ultimately benefited my work.We also talk about why people struggle with failure and how to separate a failed attempt from being a failure. The more you practice failing, the less intimidating it becomes. You start seeing setbacks as part of the process rather than something to avoid at all costs. So if you've been holding back from pursuing something because you're afraid it won't go perfectly, this episode is for you. The reality is that your business will look very different as you move through each income bracket, because each stage requires different foundations and processes to grow to the next level. It's awards season! Well at least here at Startup CPG it is. If you aren't aware, we have our very own annual industry award competition at Startup CPG, and this year is the Third Annual Shelfies Awards, proudly sponsored by Floret, where we recognized the most promising emerging CPG brands. Startup CPG wanted to create opportunities for industry recognition with no entry fee, no essays, and only for emerging brands. This year the categories expanded beyond food, beverage, and supplements to include pet, beauty, and health products, and we received over 600 submissions that have been narrowed down to 76 finalists across 21 categories. I thought it would be fun to have the two main judges and coordinators behind the Shelfies on the show to talk about trends and some of the finalists. You may know the names and voices of Patricia Menegoto, Startup CPG's Head of Marketing & Community & Jenna Movsowitz, our Startup CPG Spotlight Magazine Managing Editor. We didn't have time to discuss every finalist, even though we love them all so much, so I've linked in the show notes the latest magazine edition with all the finalist brands you'll be wanting to try and celebrate. We'd love for you to join the LinkedIn live awards ceremony in a few weeks on September 28, 2023; you can find the link in the show notes or on our Startup CPG LinkedIn page. Also, a fair number of the brands mentioned today are either backpack or innovation brands at Expo East, so if you are headed to Philadelphia, be sure to stop by to try for yourself. There will also be a Shelfies celebration meetup in LA in October and details will be in Slack and the newsletter soon. Now let's talk Shelfies!Episode Links: Startup CPG Spotlight Magazine: Frozen Edition & Shelfie Finalists Attend the Shelfies Awards Ceremony on LinkedIn Live on September 28, 2023 Shelfies Award sponsor Floret Jenna's LinkedIn Patricia's LinkedIn Startup CPG Pet Judges Video on Instagram Mentions: Toum by Saha, Sohha Savory, Culture Kitchn Kombucha, Pedestrian Project, Daybird, Jaded CBD, Bonny, Funk It Wellness, Tend Prenatal, Recoup Wellness, Twrl Milk Tea, Hooch Booch, Immorel, Krushwell, Thrive Market, House of Kajaana, Kula, NoBull, Something Sweet, Kind Roots, Ghost Town Oats, Seeductive Foods, Rebel Cheese, Goddess Mousse, Full of Beans Kitchen, Better Sour, Bundle & Joy, Petaluma, A Better Treat, Homescape Pets This episode was sponsored by Settle. Last time we talked about equity crowdfunding on the show, many of you let me know that you wanted more equity crowdfunding content. When I saw that Ghost Town Oats had launched their second Wefunder campaign, I thought it would be a great opportunity for us to talk more about equity crowdfunding and to introduce you to Ghost Town Oats if you aren't familiar. Ghost Town Oats is the first Black-owned, queer-owned, barista-owned oat milk company. Ghost Town Oats was developed by three baristas, Michelle R. Johnson, Eric Grimm, and Ezra Baker, who were a part of oat milk's initial rise to fame in some of the first shops to carry it. Having been unpaid ambassadors while also seeing its marketability skew towards the upper economic class of society, it was time to flip the script: make a premium oat milk of their own and create a brand that appealed to a broader audience. They formulated Ghost Town Oats for incredible taste, steaming capability, and versatility, and the reviews are in: it's a hit! They reached $1 million in revenue 10 months after launch, they've already produced over 1 million units of oat milk, and they are already carried in over 500 coffee shops. Our guest today is Ghost Town's Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder Ezra Baker.Listen in as Ezra shares about: How Ghost Town Oats got started during the pandemic Their first Wefunder equity crowdfunding campaign in 2022 where they raised over $210,000 from almost 500 investors in less than a week and NBA all-star Jimmy Butler was a lead investor Their second and currently ongoing Wefunder campaign, from what they learned from the first campaign to how it works to set up a campaign How they distribute to 500+ coffee shops and what's next for Ghost Town in the foodservice channel First hires for Ghost Town and how they plan ahead for their next hires Press opportunities like Good Morning America And more Get your ticket to the Expo East Mic Drop party for a chance to win a spot on the podcast: https://tinyurl.com/4nafz284This episode was sponsored by Settle. I'm so excited to introduce you to today's guest and for the chance to feature an incredible organization everyone in CPG should know about, Project Potluck. Kathleen Casanova is the Founding Executive Director of Project Potluck, which is the largest professional community inclusively for People of Color (POC) in CPG. People of Color face systemic barriers to accessing social, human, and financial capital. Currently, 40% of the US population are POC but only 16% of leadership teams in CPG Natural Products are POC. Project Potluck is empowering People of Color to build successful companies and careers in the CPG Industry. If you are a Person of Color, this episode will introduce you to Project Potluck as a resource. If you are not, this episode will introduce you to how to support the Project Potluck community and contribute to serving 1,000 People of Color in CPG, creating a more colorful CPG industry, and a more equitable society.Listen in as Kathleen shares about: How Project Potluck got started Resources and events available to members How people can support Project Potluck And more! I don't always love talking about insurance, but I love talking about insurance with today's guest, Danielle Holyoake, because I always learn so much and end up feeling more empowered with knowledge. Danielle, is the CRO and co-founder of Amelia Risk, a CPG insurance brokerage equipped to handle all lines of commercial insurance, and I actually met Danielle through the Startup CPG Slack back in 2021 when she helped me with an urgent insurance issue. Last year, in 2022, Danielle came on the show for a CPG insurance 101 level episode of Let's Demystify Insurance - How to navigate insurance in CPG, which is linked in the show notes and may be helpful to listen to before or after this episode, as it's packed with really great information about general liability, product liability, recall, and worker's comp insurance. Today we continue with our 100 level CPG insurance knowledge by focusing in on two areas of insurance that often get overlooked, but become super important as a CPG company scales: D&O or Directors & Officers insurance and stock throughput insurance, which come into play around conversations about fundraising and inventory respectively. This episode was sponsored by Amelia Risk.Listen in as Danielle shares about: Why D&O insurance comes up during fundraising and why it's often a requirement of investors When to start thinking about D&O insurance and what it covers Why stock throughput insurance is important and surprising areas where your inventory may be unprotected How inventory is covered from an insurance perspective during freight transit, at 3PL warehouses, and why you might need insurance to protect it Examples of insurance claim and inventory loss scenarios when insurance can and cannot help, including spoilage, and temperature control issues How to find the right insurance broker and why choosing a broker before shopping for policies is important And more! I'm so excited to bring back a very popular guest from last year, Jenna Cameron, for another foodservice episode! We released episode #74 with Jenna during December of last year as part of the First Hire Series, and our conversation focused on first hires for foodservice sales. Our community seems hungry for foodservice knowledge and so we asked Jenna to come back on the show to walk us through the biggest players in foodservice from distributors, to operators, to buying groups and more. Jenna is currently the sales lead at SIMULATE and has 10+ years of experience in plant-based foodservice sales for growing brands.Listen in as Jenna shares about: Key term definitions to frame the conversation including operators versus buying groups versus redistributors Major distributors to know in foodservice, including details on Dot, Sysco, US Foods, and more, plus other regional distributors and how to work with each Some of Jenna's favorite operators from campus stores to Disney to Red Robin and others and specific nuances An overview of key buying groups like Compass and Aramark and how to get started with a buying group C-store & convenience store channel ideas Resources for finding a regional broker for foodservice or an advisor And right at the end we cover Groceraunt, which is incidentally my new favorite word And more! Please note that Jenna drops a ton of detailed information in this episode and if you are worried about catching the company names she's dropping, fret not! It's understandable to be unsure about the potential returns and to set realistic goals, especially when starting out with no prior experience. In today's episode, I want to address these questions by taking a different approach. Instead of an interview, I will dive into a recent deal we closed and present it as a case study. I'll be going over all the details of the deal, from finding the property to reflecting on lessons learned, to provide you with tangible examples and demonstrate what is possible in the realm of real estate investing. The key to pricing your offer is NOT about how much content you provide, or what other people are charging or what you THINK people will pay. Instead, you need to be super clear on what outcome you're delivering in each offer. In today's episode, I am sharing 5 questions to ask yourself when you're pricing your online course, 1:1 coaching, programs or memberships.- Why clarifying the outcome will dictate the value (and therefore the pricing).- Understanding the difficulty of achieving the outcome and how long it will take them to get there.- The link between the outcome, how much support your clients need from you and the value this provides.- How educating your audience can help them to re-evaluate what outcomes they are prioritising.- How the value of your offer impacts your audience's bigger life picture.Episodes referred to:- Episode #644 - Ask Steph: Do you have to have live calls in your online course? Are you ready to hear from the world's first and tastiest refrigerated, plant-based marshmallow creme? I have been full stop obsessed with Funky Mello since discovering them through the Shelfie Awards last year after they won and we did a short minisode with co-founder Delisa Harper last year (that I also recommend listening to) where I loved hearing more about their story. Today I'm so excited that we get a full episode with Delisa to dive into the world of Funky Mello. At Expo West, Delisa and Zach shared Funky Mello as a Backpack Brand at the Alley Rally event and were in the top crowd favorites (for good reason), so it was amazing to meet in person. They gave me some mini cremes to take home, which were the perfect size for making fluffernutter sandwiches, and now, I can't stop making them. If you haven't made a fluffernutter sandwich, it's peanut butter (or the butter of your choice) plus marshmallow creme, and I also like to add a little tbh hazelnut spread, which is another past podcast guest. I think you'll notice that my love of marshmallows really comes through in this episode.Listen in as Delisa shares about: Founding Funky Mello with her husband Zach six months into dating Participating in accelerator programs and launching in Whole Foods Their holiday rollout with Sprouts and what they learned What it's like to self-manufacture How they are exploring the foodservice channel Behind the scenes of their new Dippsterz product Their social media and events strategies What it's like to work with your spouse And more! Self-care isn't just about the shiny new facial brush or heated spin class that's all over Instagram. Self-care is about the Yeti coffee mug that helps you enter into the WFH mood each morning because it serves you and makes a difference in your morning mindset. You deserve to invest in the self-care products that make you feel good, give you something to look forward to, and give you a physical reminder that you have your own back. In today's episode, Erin shares her favorite physical, mental, and spiritual self-care products that help fill her cup so she can give to others. These aren't the woo woo, Instagram-worthy, aesthetically-pleasing products. These are the products that vary from flashy to old-school that work for Erin and her lifestyle and will get you thinking about what self-care products will work for yours. ICYMI – Your Post-Episode Homework: Take today's list from the episode and consider one or two products that inspired you. Incorporate them into your routine in a way that works for you, or use them as launchpads for different products that will help you frame your day with self-care. If you decide your self-care routine doesn't need any new products, know that the most important takeaway from this episode is that you matter and you deserve self-care in all of its forms.
